    What really got me about Hellblade, was when playing with headphones it gave me such a sense of anxiety playing throughout the game because I constantly heard her inner voices coming from every direction. I applaud Ninja Theory for making this game with spatial surround recording and having to consult real Psychologists and people who really suffer from that mental illness, just the whole process they went through to make this game feel authentic. Can't wait for the sequel, the gameplay trailer for Senua's Saga looked amazing!

      @КатяГаврилюк-д2ы 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Control actually has this one also. If you play in headphones and there are enemies nearby or some other bad stuff you getting a barrage of mysterious voices in your ears. Mostly it’s nonsense but sometimes they say some unsettling crap

      @@КатяГаврилюк-д2ы Thanks for reminding me I need to beat Control. I was playing it on PS4 when I got it on PS Plus but I got to a part that was literally running at like 15fps and kept dying from the stuttering. Yea and control along with hellblade are two of my most fav games .... The sound design in hellblade with the constant voices trying question or justify senuas decisions and her actions .... It's meant to be played with headphones..... It's stresses you out but also helps us understand what senua Is going through ..... It's been a while I've played both control and hellblade but I would totally once again experience playing them both ..... The final sequence the final battle is enough for me to get back to playing hellblade and I still remember the ashtray maze part from control encountering it for the first time with take control playing in the BG .... Man that has to be the most awesome I've had after completing a sequence..... Both games are masterpieces when it comes to sound design....

    I remember my first play through in RDR2 after the Hosea bear hunt I decided to hunt all of the reachable legendary animals at once. I got all the ones I could minus the Moose and Elk considering I could only carry one big pelt at a time, but on the way to the trapper I got ambushed by a Murfreesboro brood shotgun guy and died and I thought that I would lose all of those pelts. I didn't know that if you die with legendary pelts they are like automatically given to the trapper. Luckily I found this out before I restarted and had to play through that whole snow chapter lol. Needless to say for about 5 minutes I was freaking out.

    I genuinely think that this would be a stress moment, in a game called blue dragon, there is a part of the game where you have to save one of your companions from a “bomb” and there is a timer on the top left of your screen and you have to go through trials and tons of enemies in order to do so, but then in the end, it wasn’t a bomb at all, idk just thought of that as one

    Surprised not to see Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem on the list. If there ever was a game that constantly tricked the player in clever ways, this would be it. It would randomly pretend to delete your save file while you try to save, make it look like the tv turned off, mute the volume, give you all kinds of ammo just to reveal it was a hallucination, suddenly make the character die or lose limbs etc. Really creative stuff.

    When the bird monster was destroying the tower and you have to escape.
    It seems like the escape sequence of any other game where you have to get out in time, but NOPE. It doesn’t matter how long you sit around, the giant bird can’t actually get you, and the tower is never actually destroyed until you eventually leave.

    Similarly to Undertale (in the sense that it is an indie RPG), in the game OMORI there is a really infamous moment where the game "tricks" you in to cutting open your cat (in a fictional setting). It tortures you by making you repeatedly say "Yes" to the prompt. It does not give any indication that is not required, but it turns out that you can escape the situation via stabbing yourself (again, in the fictional setting). Ultimately you have to stab yourself to progress. So essentially, it's either you and the cat or just you. I know this sounds weird, but it makes more sense when you have the full context.

    Fun note about the borderlands general knoxx stash: way back when the DLC was released (and it may have been patched since then, idk), there was a glitch to get inside the vault without setting off the timer. Trusting you dont try to leave through the appropriate doors you could get all the loot, quit, then reload, and loot it all again via the glitch, either for wanting to get more and more new guns or just as a quick cash grab if you're broke. Before new game+ I had a character that looted the stash a total of 382 times. Still got crap. RNG is not so easy to manipulate :P

    Alien: Isolation did this, too, where there are multiple parts that contain no possible threat, yet ramp up the intensity of the music to max, trigger alien vent-crawling noises all over, and/or set off some blaring alarm.
    It doubles as a fake-out when you learn that in some of those scenarios, it is actually possible to face danger if certain conditions are met, so you might have learned that a particular event is safe only to be terrifyingly surprised on a subsequent playthrough.

    The character in Hollow Knight kinda reminds me of a certain character in Lunar: The Silver Star. When you first meet him, you're in his store to sell a diamond. After negotiating a price, he basically says he'll take the diamond and put it in his safe, then return with the payment. (As I'm sure you all guessed, he keeps one of those promises.) You do, of course, hunt after him and get... well, at least 3/4 of that money. But that's not the important part in this.
    You then later meet him in the city of thieves, where he now runs a sort of item bank establishment. You can basically have him store your items for, as he puts it, "them being safely stored away forever". When you then try to reclaim said items, that's when he unveils his sceme at you, and this time, there's nothing you can do about it. (Funnily enough, in the remake, Silver Star Story, the same thing happens... except in this case, he does actually work as a safe storage space and you CAN reclaim your items. I think. It's been a while since I played the original, much more so the remake.)

    5:31 i found the 1/2 magic thing back pre-internet era. all on my own. i was so stressed about it the whole time i played the game before i realized what actually happened. i still think it was perfectly done and couldnt be mimicked in modern games nowadays. because everyone has constant access to the internet and every single detail of every game is available before a game ever launches nowadays. love it.

    There was an urban legend among my group of friends about Turbo Tunnel (Battletoads for Nes). We really believed that if we die a lot there, the game would slow the thing down a little bit, because the Father of that one guy read it on a magazine from the US (I'm from Brazil).
    All lies of course, but I think we antecipated the dinamic difficulty thing for about two decades lol

    I had no idea about Hellblade that was a ruse. I played it and died like 3 times really early in the game, then I just quit playing because I didn’t want to sink 20+ hours just to die to some BS and lose all that time.
    I think I’m going to go back to it now.

      @@goodmanpatryk7155 I understand that. However, in reality, we have to balance our time playing games with the rest of our lives. I didn't see enough in the game to run the risk of losing all of my progress after committing time to learn the game and advance. It looks like a great game, which I never deleted. Now that I know progress won't be lost, I can give it another chance.

    The countdown timer for General Knoxx's Vault in Borderlands 1 is less because you'll be 'trapped' in the vault (well, more killed because it explodes), but more because once the vault is shut... it's SHUT! You can't go back and loot it EVER again, so the timer is to get you to grab as much as you can in that time (there is a glitch to be able to keep going back, but I'll let you Google that yourselves, lol ^_^)

  • @jsullivan2112
    @jsullivan2112 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't think Dragon Rot qualifies as inconsequential, it definitely isn’t. Dragonrot decreases your chances of Unseen Aid, it drops from 30% probability down to 3%. So basically your chances of losing all your money and experience when you die is far greater. That's a more important factor that you left out. Yes you can cure Dragonrot but only by buying Dragon's Blood Droplets or finding them and killing some bosses. It doesn't matter that much later on in subsequent play-throughs where you're maxed out but good luck getting there if you keep dying and losing all your shit.

    In the Spider-Man 2 video game for the PlayStation 2 the build up for Mysterios boss fight was big. Earlier in the game he summoned aliens and holograms, a giant UFO that had encased the Statue of Liberty and even a wacky funhouse of doom with mirror copies of you that you had to fight.
    When I finally caught up to him and saw his huge health bar go up three times I expected him to be a tough boss that warped reality with his illusions only to have him go down with one hit. At the time I was so nervous about the fight I completely ignored where we were (which was a random convenience store) and walked around the store first thinking of what I should plan for. They got me good.

    The bomb in Starship Titanic (voiced by John Cleese) never actually goes off, but it's always in the back of your mind as you progress through the game. You can even reset the countdown at any time by interrupting the bomb's AI.

  • @SubjectDelta20
    @SubjectDelta20 ปีที่แล้ว

    The time limit/bomb in the General Knoxx DLC wasn't designed to make you think you'd lose all the guns you picked up within that time limit, it just prevents you from opening the other 150 chests. Unless you just glitch through the floor and open ALL the chests, with no timer,lol. One of my fav glitches, but ultimately pointless cuz those chests don't drop Pearlecent's.

      or just 10 game moments that were impossible...so you got someone else to do it for you.
      In one of the call of duty games...like the early ones...there was the D-Day landing beach sequence (Private Ryan style) I made it up the beach on PC which had way more action than the console versions. Then someone screamed for bangalore's which I had no idea about so my son took over. He ran back down the beach, checked the boats, came back up and almost tripped over the damned things all while the chaose of the Private Ryan beach sequence was going on. Literally this 13 year old was running up and down that damned beach not getting hurt while I managed to run up the beach ONCE and got shot multiple times and had to restart.

    I LOVE Hellblade!! I REALLY hope the sequel is only a Timed Exclusive for Xbox like how the first one was a Timed Exclusive for PS4…
    Imo Hellblade has The Best Audio design in any game I’ve played… it just REALLY immerses you into Senua’s state of mind and successfully has you relating to her on such a high level…
    And while I think Hellblade is nearly flawless as is, there is TONS of room for improvement regarding puzzles and combat in the sequel…
    Hellblade gave me anxiety almost Thru it’s entire running length. This may sound odd but it was a Fun kinda Anxiety… which is something very few games/movies/books etc; have pulled off for me… but Hellblade did it in spades and remains an unforgettable experience for me because of that (and many other things, but I’d be typing all day…).

    The MAD Batter reminds me of the so called "curses" Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door obtained from freeing entities from locked chests which threaten to curse Paper Mario but instead actually end up giving him various paper based abilities such as the ability to turn into a Paper Plane, Paper Boat, Paper Tube, or Paper Mode which takes advantage of Paper Mario being two-dimensional! Mind you once you get the first curse, it no longer fools you or if you have the Nintendo Power Player's Guide they reveal these curses are actually nifty tricks for traversing around!
