  • What’s up everybody. In todays video, I will be painting my basement ceiling with Zinsser Black Dryfall Paint. I chose this paint as I am working on finishing my basement, and I wanted to create a blacked out industrial looking ceiling. This is a great option that is low-cost, easy to apply, and looks great.

    I’m debating on doing this aswell. Only thing is since there is only paint, there will b no Safe’N’Sound Insulation and thus, lots of noise from upstairs.

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True but it’s not that bad. You could always it insulation board up and they Dryfall over it.

    You said the ceiling height is 9ft high, dryfall is rated for 15ft ceilings. Might be why it’s staining the floor. Looks great though!

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably, but it was my first time so once I swept the floors quick after spraying each section it was much better. Thanks 🙏

    Looks great! I'm doing this in my basement too. How did you deal with uneven drywall at the top of the walls? Like how did you clean up the transition from wall to ceiling?

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I added trim at the top of the walls and leveled the trim. It transitioned nicely.

    Beautiful paint work, man. That looks awesome! Do you have any concerns about not having insulation in the basement ceiling? I live in the Northeast and even though we have severe weather swings, my home is generally very cool in the summer and winter. I'm planning to do this industrial look in my basement but I'm concerned about the lack of insulation...any thoughts?

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My basement walls are underground, solid concrete, and frame/insulated on the inside. My basement is warm and the heat in the basement rises to heat the wood of the first floor. I have no issues with heat.

    Looks good! Just curious why you didnt do the ceiling first and then drywall the walls after?

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I could have but I was concerned that all the drywall finishing dust would get all over the ceiling and ruin the Dryfall paint.

    Ceiling looks great! I am planning to spray my basement ceiling soon. The house is about 70 years old and ceiling wood is pretty worn. Would you recommend sanding before or would the black paint disguise the imperfections of the wood?

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’d just spray over it. Just dust off any dust debris but don’t worry about sanding.

    Hey, what you think about using a tip extension vers having to use a step up/ladder for painting? Prob easiee to get hard to reach spots too?

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you had an extension that’s probably helpful for most spots, but sometimes to get in tight spots the extension may be cumbersome.

  • @edlist
    @edlist 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Why did you shield the walls since they are not finished yet and you were going to have to paint them anyways? Just curious since I am going to do the same thing, nice video!

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just because I didn’t know how the overspray would fall/stick to the walls and didn’t want to have to sand more seems. The overspray from dry fall paint can stain your floor or your walls if not wiped off quick enough. Covering your walls and having drop cloths on the floor will help clean up go a lot faster.

    Question pls- How strong was the smell from this paint application - did it take days for the smell to die down ?- did the smell gravitated through your home ? BTW- Really Nice Looking! - I have low ceiling height and this might be a good solution for me.

    • @DieselLegiance

    I just used behr pro drywall paint to do my basement ceiling (literally 2 hours ago). I just checked on it and I have dripping on parts of ductwork and it looks kind of bad from what I can tell. Did you have to repaint that whole pex line? If so, how’d you prevent it from dripping a second time?

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The cold water Pex (blue) sweats so I had to run a fan facing the pex line immediately after I sprayed it to get it to actually dry. Once the paint dried I had no issues.

    Does it make the basement “feel” smaller? My basement isn’t that big so that’s what I’m concerned about. But the finished product looks super badass!

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The first section was maybe 30 min. It’s not hard. I probably had only 3-4 hours of actual spraying as I had to go over a few spots a 2nd time.

    Hello,
    I hope you are well. I saw your TH-cam channel ' ".Your channel and video content are very good.
    But here are some problems:
    1. SEO score is very low
    2. No title - description - tags are SEO friendly
    3. Not sharing on social media platforms and your TH-cam channel is a lot of trouble.
    As a result views, likes and subscribers are not increasing.

    Black industrial ceilings are interesting to look at in commercial spaces like warehouses or big box stores, in residential basements, not so much. Another dumb boojie suburban trend that's going to make people wince when it goes out of style in a few months.

      Maybe, but if you feel that way, don’t do it with your home. If you prefer to keep up with the rich hdtv people and brag about how much you spend on your home projects, go ahead. But some of us like to think outside of the box and try something different.

      Haters gonna hate. How's saving a bunch of money and making the ceiling basically a non-element in the overall design boojie? I've seen a million finished basement ideas and white drywall or drop celings are about as boring and bland as it gets. Wouldn't want this for upstairs living space but it's great to have something different in a basement, especially if you've got taller ceilings.

    • @DieselLegiance

      I sticks well to aluminum ductwork and metal gas lines and wood but if spraying cold water pipes have a fan running once sprayed otherwise the condensation makes the paint drip off.

    • @benjaminhornberger7682
      @benjaminhornberger7682 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @DieselLegiance ok awesome. The decking for the roof is old school sheet steel with ribs on it. No piping in it yet for duct work. We will probably spray it black before we install it all. But thank you for getting back to me! I'll be sure to let everybody know how it goes

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @benjaminhornberger7682 Should be fine. Just make sure the ceiling is somewhat clean. Use a towel to wipe it, shop vac or blow air to get dust off.
