      Haha, they made it sound so simple, it dried alright but on the floor and not while taking. The facility was air conditioned so maybe would have done better with hot dry environment but I would have thought low humidity would have been the biggest factor

    Nice looking spray job. The color coding always set's it off. We would sit our pump's and a half drum, or 55 gal drum cut in half, on a four wheel cart. For covering sprinkler heads try penny candy paper bags, overlap plastic drapes 6"-12" use bailing wire to " sew " together. Your job looked really nice when complete. Thanks for sharing. John

      Great advice, having our paint in a large drum would have been nice to keep from having to swap out 5-gallon pails constantly and the candy paper bags would have been a fast way to drape things. Thanks for the comment!

      Awesome! Thats great you have a project coming up. Glad you found the most of the products. The pole we are using towards the end we rigged up. We used paint extension pole and then zip tied the sprayer to it. We had to zip tie the sprayer handle which was only bad part so it was not something you could easily stop/start. I think they sell devices that do this but in our case we just rigged something up as we were running out of time and it was quicker to do from floor than on lift. Good luck!

So far everything is going well and we are ahead of schedule. My question is (and if you’re able to answer). Based on the in this video, how (very similar to what we are doing) how do you bid for such project? This is the first commercially project I get my hands on and I have no clue how something like this would be bided. I’m just encouraged to start transitioning to commercial from residential.

      Congrats on your project! I am not a professional so I can't help much with pricing. I Was given a rough quote of $40,000 by someone to paint the ceiling but we ended up doing the job internally ourselves which cost us just supplies and rental equipment. The cost to us was around $7000 for the paint and lift rentals. The $40000 did not include the pipe color painting. There were a lot of man-hours so labor is a big factor but I did not keep track of all hours spent on this project. Best of luck with your transition!

      In Florida, we're charging about $1.20sft of coated surface for basic interior commercial. Obviously, smaller jobs have a minimum total. I am doing a job right now in a new 8,900sft retail box store buildout that will be dryfall ceiling in white with an off white wall color. Open ceiling will be single coat of white over very clean joist, decking and brand new MEP, and down 3' on the wall (just below the joists). The perimeter walls will start at 17' and come down to finished floor. The walls will be one coat tinted PVA primer and one color coat in low sheen eggshell, sprayed and backrolled. The total flat surface area (ceiling and walls) will be right at 16,900sft (obviously can't calculate all the joist work and MEP, although the MEP in this job is minimal. If MEP and structural work is complicated, adjust price upward accordingly). I am charging $1.19 sft, material and labor, no floor covering other than standard tarp along floor at base of walls while spraying and backrolling. Contractor will do cleanup of dryfall before installing vinyl flooring. Four interior solid wood doors w/steel frames, two exterior solid steel doors and frames. Two 80 sqf bathrooms and one 80 sqf office. It is an open floorplan with modular fixtures to be brought in, so 17' perimeter walls and a few 8' bathroom/office walls. This is a very basic new, dry retail box buildout. Standard new retail/commercial construction. You will need to practice calculating your paint coverage based upon your equipment and painting style; estimating labor hours, and making sure your overhead is paid for. Your mileage may vary. Point in case, I was just told that this same job in the New England area would go right at $24.000, or $1.42 sft. I don't know if that is in the middle of the city or in a more urban area, but I can almost guarantee that it is union wages. This is just us, a small team in Fl, doing dry retail, and not willing to work for free. If you're in a heavy bidding situation, you may need to work for less. We will run two painters and one laborer 6-8 days without killing ourselves, depending on weather and FUBAR's.... Humidity is high in Fl, even in winter, so if we get a couple of days of rain, we may have to hold off on the walls, as the space is not conditioned yet. Good luck!

    • @AndrewHorezga
      @AndrewHorezga ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theworldofbs5811 that's a great breakdown. I'm in NJ and sometimes bidding a job you can bid higher than you would because if you're competing with union labor you can charge more than your usual rate and still be lower than union work.

    • @finkeunsorted9256
      @finkeunsorted9256  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There was one spot around an HVAC unit where condensation had rusted the roof steel. We sprayed this with a can of rust primer. Looking back I wish we would have done the first coat is a primer as it produced a much brighter white. The ceiling was dirty even after we sprayed it off with an air hose (Oil residue). The paint still stuck well everywhere and was very pleased but this residue bled through and caused the white paint to yellow some. Still looks amazing but when you look at the area where we sprayed the primer it is a much brighter white. I also recommend doing a small area and seeing how it does for a week or two. I heard stories of the paint initially looking good and then peeling off shortly after. Better to test a small area and find out vs doing the whole thing. Good luck with your project!

      We did not, we were thinking since it was dryfall paint and was in ac and had around17 feet to fall to dry then we could more or less sweep it up but it stuck to floor a lot. I think running over it with the lifts compacted it into floor. We used a wet floor scrubber and it eventually came up. We were not too concerned since the floors were the next project we were going to tackle.

      We found what worked best was to scrape off the thick parts of paint and then soak with water & Krud Kutter graffiti remover and mop up. We had planned on polishing the concrete floors at some point so we were not too worried about it all coming up. If we could do again we would have drapes parts of the floor to make cleanup easier
