  • My Complete Mouth Care System. Developed over decades from experience as a dentist for 40+ years and being tired of seeing people suffer with oral health problems. I decided to create a mouth care system that would stop oral health problems, prevent and reverse gum recession, plaque, cavities and create clean, white and healthy teeth. This video will go into detail about every step of the Complete Mouth Care System, how it works and why it is important to follow. The fourth step is the use of Listerine cool mint or original. It is important to choose the correct mouthwash, because each mouthwash is created differently and every ingredient matters.

    I've almost completely reversed heavy gum recession in only 2 months. My teeth are whiter than ever and getting even whiter! Today I came across your videos from 13 years ago and it's amazing that I just recently came across all this. You've saved me from having to pay a dentist to get cadaver to graph to my gums. Thousands of dollars saved. You honor the world by helping them protect their teeth so well.

      Society has had al the basic tools we need, to avoid dental misery.
      Preventative dental education has been lacking, we’ve had no concept of how to use these tools.
      Also: dentists i have known do NOT keep revising “best practice” techniques- they keep revising what new fresh bs cosmetic procedures we will desire

    In my 40's, never had a cavity in my life. I only brushed once per day (always rinsed toothpaste with water after brushing), NEVER flossed, and used listerine before any social occasions or before bed (even as a kid we had good old listerine by our bathroom sink). I visited the dentist once every 5 years (who told me my teeth were crazy white and I must be doing something right).
    Last year I wanted to to take my mouth care to the next level and started following typical dental recommendations. I started brushing 2-3 times a day and just spitting out toothpaste not rinsing as I was told flouride should stay on for 30 mins. I flossed every day at bed time. I even bought a water flosser. Went back to the dentist and guess what... LOTS of plaque and tartar buildup that I never had before (no cavities thank god).
    So I found Dr Ellie's routine that seemed to be jive with what I used to do (ie, no flossing, mouthwashes, fewer dental cleanings/visits). I've been doing this for a month and my mouth is SO clean again... and no plaque despite not flossing. I highly recommend!

      Omg after I started water flossing plus more vigorous regular flossing after getting lectured by hygienist is when cavities started getting worse and worse. What started it all I think was switching to a fluoride-free natural toothpaste after my ex insisted fluoride was dangerous. But still it was only a few new cavities at first after that, but then my hygienist treating me like I had a dirty mouth had me flossing multiple times a day instead of once and really scraping the sides of teeth with the floss until my gums hurt. She also had me using a sulca brush for inbetween teeth too and the water flosser! I was spending one hour cleaning my teeth after each of my two meals a day yet after one visit she was like you have 5 cavities. I was like what the heck?!

      Why would you let that gunk SIT IN YOUR MOUTH for any amount of time afterward? It doesn’t take itself away…

    Dr. Ellie, you are a blessing to humanity. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. I've been doing your complete mouthcare system for 2 months now and have seen marked improvements in my gums and teeth. My mother began 3 weeks ago and always struggled with heavy tarter build-up between her 6mo hygiene cleanings. Just yesterday, she got a bit of stringy celery caught in her teeth and couldn't remove it by rinsing alone. She gently used some floss to remove the stuck food, and out of curiosity, she continued to floss the rest of her mouth. Much to her amazement, there was zero anything on the floss when she finished! My mom is 71 years old and has flossed regularly until she began your system. She always had sticky, smelly, plaque on her floss before she started your system. Just wanted to share her testimony with others. We love you!!

      How's it going now? I think the PUR brand of Xylitol is just fine. You could also just buy pure granulated Xylitol from any grocery store or health food store. It will be in the baking section near the sugar. Personally, I prefer that when I'm home, and I carry the PUR mints in my bag for when I'm out.

    • @adamd9166
      @adamd9166 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I found the Pur brand and am considering using a pinch of xylitol in place of the mints after a meal. A pinch and then just swish it around my mouth with saliva for 30 seconds to a minute (I believe she says the same about chewing the mints). I believe it should have the same effect.

    • @Maggie-zr2ow
      @Maggie-zr2ow 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@adamd9166 I had an online chat with Dr Ellie and she said the xylitol crystals work just as good as the mints as long as you use them without water. Some people want to mix them with water to swish around in the mouth. I have intolerances to the other ingredients in the mints so I get the xylitol crystals (a pure birch xylitol brand that doesn’t use any flow agents) and I keep lidded containers with spoons in the kitchen and the bathroom closet next to my toothbrush. I use more than just a pinch because I figure I don’t want the effort over time to show that I didn’t use enough. I’d rather use too much than too little. Recently I’ve been starting with a pinch that I swallow because studies show xylitol strengthens bones and helps prevent osteoporosis. Men can benefit as well because they too get osteoporosis. Then after the pinch, I do my big spoonful, melt and swish for 1-2 minutes, then spit out. Be careful that your xylitol isn’t accessible by your pets as it’s toxic to them. Cheers.

    • @Maggie-zr2ow
      @Maggie-zr2ow 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @kahearne5361 You might consider looking into bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) if you haven’t already. 60 isn’t too old to do it, and that frozen shoulder can be a symptom of low hormones. Broken bones can also be a symptom of low hormones. The BHRT is protective against osteoporosis and protects brain health. Look up videos on what is being discovered. And the xylitol in Dr Ellie’s program also helps with protecting bone health. You may need to consume xylitol crystals in addition to the chewing gum and mints. Ask your doctor about it. Also, have you heard about low dose naltrexone for the MS? Wish you well.

      Maybe, and maybe not if the tick just backs out and drops off. Useful hack if you have a tick on a rambunctious pet or an area on your body you can't reach easily. Doctors say ticks need to be embedded more than two hours before danger of Lyme contagions transferred. Besides most people trying to remove ticks often disengorge the tick stomach contents by squeezing and manipulation. Listerine anesthesizes the tick to relax and back out. But for sure, Listerine is far better used as a dental and plaque rememdy

      I began with a slide carousel and projector screen - often in small libraries and pre-natal clinics.
      Later I used more technology and gave seminars in hotel ballrooms where we measured the pH of the drinks people were drinking.

    Gargling deeply with that a few times a night when you first start feeling a cold or flu coming on is a powerful tool.

    I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP at night. The mask that I wear is one with nose pillows so my mouth is uncovered. I also wear a night guard. When I sleep, air often escapes through my mouth and it gets paralyzingly dry. I've tried using a chin strap, mouth tape, Xylimelts, Biotene products, ACT flouride rinse for Dry Mouth, and a full face mask (can't get a good seal), but nothing really works. When I wake up with the dry mouth, I don't even have enough saliva to dissolve a Zellies mint. For the past year, the inside of my mouth often gets painfully sore and it burns or feels like I have burned it. My sleep apnea doctor couldn't help. My dentist couldn't help. A dermatologist suggested it might be a kind of neuropathy. I've been using your Complete Mouth Care System for about three weeks. I love the way my teeth feel so clean but the inside of my mouth is beginning to become sore again. The Listerine is excruciating. The mints leave my mouth dry-ish and sore and with a rough texture. • @dr.elliephillips
      @dr.elliephillips  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Ensure you are using the resilient brushes that I recommend - MOUTHWATCHERS ad that you allow them to dry 24 hours between uses.
      Aim at these areas of staining with plenty of toothpaste as you begin brushing and then work back around your mouth.
      Many people have been told "THEY" "BRUSHED TOO HARD" and are scared to do a good job with a toothbrush.
      Healthy enamel is harder than steel (look that up and you will see) and it will not be brushes away if you are using this system.
      Be brave and simply brush - these stains will go away.
      If you do not have success - you can add some granular xylitol to the toothpaste to make it a bit more exfoliating and this will get the stains off in a couple of days.

    Hello! If you could please review the bottle of the ACT “Pineapple Punch.” You can see the details online. I see H‑E‑B carries it. That one has the ADA seal on it and it appears to be the same formulation as the bubble gum. Would that one be ok to use? Can adults use the children’s ACT as well if they prefer? I noticed the grape and watermelon flavor do not have the ADA seal on them, so those are out. Thanks in advance!

    • @dr.elliephillips

      I know ACT zero alcohol mint (green) works best for adults.
      I recommend kids to experiment if they want to - unless they have cavities (in which case only bubblegum and mint are known (by me) to work).
      The ADA seal is a joke - so don't go by that for any kind of endorsement.
      If you hate mint - I'd recommend use the cinnamon or bubblegum flavors.
      I cannot keep up with every new variety - and if you want the closest to a guarantee that this system will work - I suggest you use the product that I know over 40+ years have worked. Others may look the same - but often it is hidden inactive variations that affect the outcome.
      For a few cents more I suggest the genuine product - at least until you have your oral health where you want it - then you could do some experimental comparisons.
      My website at DrEllie.com provides links to products on Amazon if you want to review the products I recommend - and the only ones I "can" recommend with complete confidence.

      Yes they can - children often use the system minus the Listerine at first (since they probably do not have problems at this time).
      It's great that you have started to use it - so you can explain the product routine and also the best way to brush.

      My kids began on the system at 6 years old...and now it's my grandchildren who are the beneficiaries :)

    I recently found Dr Ellie and have been getting my supplies and starting her process. I always wanted uber-white teeth and now I just want uber-healthy teeth! I got the Cool Mint Listerine (only because the store only had the 64oz size of the original (!) and am not sure I can handle that one!! So I used the Cool Mint and my teeth were blue. Not happy! But I also checked the labels of each variety of the Listerine and they all have the exact same active ingredients in the same order in the same percentages. Obviously my mind is saying, well get the one with the lightest color so it doesn't affect the shade of the teeth... but I've always been a good pupil and will use the Cool Mint - until I can find a small bottle of the original. Thank you Dr Ellie!

      Ultra whitening makes teeth porous.
      I once saw the teeth of a hygienist turn purple when she drank wine at a dental meeting.
      She was in distress in the ladies room - and amazed at the problem.
      I can drink red wine and my strong enamel does not allow the color to percolate inside to cause staining.
      Keep at this system and learn more about how teeth harden and strengthen.
      Xylitol/Zellies after meals is critical - followed by a period of not eating or drinking for 1-2 hours.

    1. Since you recommend not rinsing with water after using the mouth washes, isnt it highly likely that some amount of the chemicals in the mouth washes would be inadvertently ingested on a regular basis. Is that safe?
    2. Is this method safe for children to use?

      When you learn my story - you will discover that this has been my recommendation to patients for over 40++ years.
      I have used it myself and also my 5 kids and their extended families - and now the teenage grandchildren.
      Not a cavity and many of us have not had a cleaning in decades.
      My oral health was "measured" in 2015 by many different dentists - and I was found to not only have perfect oral health, clean carotid arteries and low body inflammation ( I was 65 at the time) but I also measured with a wide diversity of healthy bacteria.
      My kids took many of these tests too - to show that I had passed these healthy bacteria to my family over the years.
      My book Mouth Care Comes Clean may explain how all of this works and why I have absolutely no concern about the products I recommend.
      The other option is to take the Oral Health Video Bootcamp at DrElie.com.
      I hope this helps to give you confidence in this system.

    @dr.elliephillips I just found you yesterday and started your system.
    When I went shopping I saw a "no alcohol" Listerine. Your videos impressed upon me the importance of the specific chemistry, so I did not deviate, but I am curious what you think of this and if it's a viable replacement. Also, would it replace ACT as well as the cool mint or original Liaterine to simplify the process?
    I had to order Zellie's, so in the meantime I bought Ice Chips xylitol candy. Is this an acceptable substitution?
    7 hours after first treatment my mouth still feels insanely clean, even better than after a professional cleaning. The only thing so far that I have done differently is that I used my electric toothbrush gently on my gums (below the gumline) and only briefly brushed my actual teeth. Not sure yet if I will have to abandon this and go back to manual later or not.

    • @dr.elliephillips
      @dr.elliephillips  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      1. Brush your teeth - and I really recommend you use the MOUTHWATCHERS brushes that I reocmmend.
      Be aware if you mess around - you may get some dead plaque staining on your teeth - superficial but annoying - and it will brush away if you go after your brushing vigorously and with enthusism. Don't be scared you will "brush your teeth away" - healthy enamel is stronger than Steel ( look that up if you don't believe me).
      I have an oral health video bootcamp at DrEllie.com that you may find useful for the details.
      Ice chips usually have too much citric acid - they are more of a candy than a dental product.
      They are delicious - I know - but be careful of the citric acid component.
      Zellies mints and gum ( with the exception of cool fruit which has a tiny amount) have absolutely NO citric acid in them for this reason.

    • @dr.elliephillips
      @dr.elliephillips  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Listerine is an essential oil mouth rinse ( check the active ingredients are Menthol, Eucalyptus and Thymol) in a very dilute concentration.
      But these essential oils are not only good for growing gum tissues - but they "pop" the shell of hard round plaque bacteria called "streptococci".
      All "cocci" are hard round bacteria with a very tough shell.
      The crazy thing is that if these immature bacteria are not stopped - they grow into a different elongated bacteria complex in 12-15 hours.
      Then xylitol can help to remove the elongated ones by making them slippery - but better if the elongated ones don't get the chance to stick to our teeth.
      Listerine does not even target the mature plaque bacteria - it is pretty specific to the hard shell kind - so it is targeted and very useful.
      if you read the Listerine label you will see it targets the bacteria that CAUSE plaque......( It does NOT say it targets plaque.....the word CAUSE is critical).

    Hello Dr. Phillips,
    Could you please tell me if I can use essential oils instead of listerine? It seems like it could possibly be an option that would eliminate the alcohol? If so, is there a different way to include sodium fluoride to the routine without having to use the Act mouthwash since the alcohol wouldn’t need to be removed from the teeth? I travel full-time and am always trying to think of how to simplify and make my systems more compact. I also love the idea of taking the alcohol out of the routine.

      Never go over one minute with any of the rinses.
      If you are good using the Cool Mint Listerine - you can use the Original Listerine and it will dissolve the tartar/calculus more effectively.
      Part of this process is also ending each meal with xylitol - and then not eating or DRINKING anything for 1-2 hours.
      This makes the plaque slippery and ready to dissolve. Synergistic effect.

    Dr. Ellie,
    On page 132 of your book Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye you write,
    “Possibly the biggest problem with sorbitol is that plaque bacteria on teeth learn to use it as an energy source in order to grow and thicken.”
    Then you go on to recommend two mouth rinses whose first ingredient after water is sorbitol, but you do not go on to explain this apparent contradiction.
    How is it that these sorbitol-based mouth rinses do not feed harmful bacteria? Especially since you instruct us to not rinse with water afterwards, this sorbitol is remaining in our mouth. How do you justify this and why should we not seek out a different rinse that is sorbitol-free?

    • @dr.elliephillips

      It is ingesting sorbitol that is the problem. When I was publishing Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye in 2010 - Trident had just launched a chewing gum made with sorbitol and a flake of xylitol - something that would definitely have given you acid reflux - YET the label said "NOW with XYLITOL".
      I was beside myself that they were allowed to do this.
      In the military they warned soldiers at that time to "LOOK for XYLITOL first" - so they would have xylitol as the first (hopefully 100% product) for chewing gum. Here is a link to the military warning: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15116453/
      In the rinses you do not swallow this sorbitol at all - so it is a mute point.

    Thank you Dr. Ellie for your videos. I just discovered you a couple weeks ago. It's interesting because up until my mid-30's I had only one cavity, when I was 12 yrs old, and it so happens I always used Crest and Listerine. In late 30's suddenly started getting loads of cavities despite brushing and flossing. So what changed? I dated someone who insisted fluoride was bad so I went to the natural toothpastes and I heard on tv mouthwash was bad because of the alcohol causing cancer or something. I started researching dental stuff after the past several years the dentist insisting I had one tiny gumline or between teeth cavity after another and it's getting expensive. I've even worried if they were conning me. Well I've went back to fluoridated toothpaste and I hope the generic store brands of Listerine-type mouthwashes are okay because they are cheaper. They do list the same 4 essential oils in same percentage as Listerine. Was wondering if the Listerine Fresh Burst (spearmint) is also okay because it's got same formulation as Cool Mint and Original it appears at least. One other question what do you do if having more that 1-2 xylitol mints or gum pieces gives you diarrhea? I can't leave the house if I follow your complete system.
