My last review was Superman 64...I had to play the game to get footage for the review...it was...it was just awful.
To be fair, Superman 64 was a much more different game midway in development, so they changed it, heavily rushed it and they called it a day. lol
It's really weird hearing the narrator talk about cancelled games while watching footage of completely unrelated games.
Or, better yet, footage of completely unrelated games with music from other, completely unrelated, games (footage of _DOOM 64_ with music from _GoldenEye_ 's Frigate level is an interesting taste combination…)
(It would've been nice if they'd labelled what games the footage was actually from…)

Agree, this is lazy editing if you’re making a list like this. There’s not even a description to tell you the name of the game that’s currently playing, so not only is it unrelated, but you might not know it’s unrelated if you’ve never seen the game before. Very confusing, distracting, and lazy which is unfortunate as this is an interesting list I’ve never heard before.
I get that it's hard to come up with relevant footage when you are talking about a game that literally wasn't made, but I think they made a poor decision with forcing their filler footage to be from other 64 games. I can think of several games from other systems and eras that would have felt more relevant to the style of game they were describing.
Talking about the Pickford brothers? Why not show footage of Plok?
A re-imagining of an old arcade game? Why not show footage from the original arcade game?
Some prolonged shots of the few pieces of artwork or screenshots they had would have also been better a better alternative.

As a Chrono Resurrection developer, thanks for mentioning our passion project! Thanks for getting the details right unlike IGN which said it was due for PSP where we couldn't even figure out where they got that info from.
Chrono Trigger 64 never got past a concept though I did make most of the soundtrack for it (I still have it). Then Nathan contacted me saying he wanted to do it on GCN and Xbox/PC. The original design was pretty weird so I insisted they redesign and follow Toriyama's art style. They settled somewhere in the middle and I think it turned out great.

It was so sad what happened to the project, I was getting so excited and then Square's iron fist came crashing down. The work you all did on it was amazing and on-par, if not better than those found in Sqaure's own Cross.. guess they got mad since they were also porting trigger to DS :/

@@TheInfectiousCadaver I presume you're referring to Chrono Resurrection there. Nintendo has no control over the Chrono property, as it belongs to Square-Enix, as they were the ones who developed the games and own the series.

The worst part about the N64 remake of Chrono Trigger was that Square Enix waited until the game was near complete before issuing the C&D
Sadly, that was probably just to save money. Many fan projects die out long before they're ready. They likely hoped it would just go away on its own.

_Chrono Resurrection_ being cut off at the knees by Square still angers me to this day! Not only because Nathan Lazur was clearly very talented and had so much passion for _Chrono Trigger_ , but if he was able to finish it I bet it would have been groundbreaking! I've talked to the guy before asking for the source code or a copy of the demo and he refuses to put it anywhere on the internet unfortunately. I know he's just avoiding legal trouble, but that sucks!

I feel the same way. It's way better than anything Square has done with CT since the DS rerelease, and even then... it was a rerelease, not a full blown remake like this. I hold very little respect for Square Enix just for this and still not doing anything under Mario RPG. Not that I follow much of what Square does...

He could change the title and some character skins and finish it. I’m sure it would still do really well on Steam. Fans get a good Chrono Trigger-like game and he makes some money from it.
I was rather pissed off too. Their work was amazing, and square is way too heavy handed with their fans and the use of their IP. Not even SEGA is that heavy handed about fan games, even fan remakes like Sonic06 PC.

There's more to Hasbro Interactive's history after Glover was finished
The ultimate fate that Hasbro Interactive faced was being bought out by Infogrames. Infogrames would make new pressings of some of the former Hasbro PC games, with "Pac-Man: Adventures in Time" and "Ms. Pac-Man: Quest for the Golden Maze" being two of them.
Infogrames would also buy up Goodtimes Interactive then change their name to Atari, only to go bankrupt every time somebody opened up a fridge before finding business making (or working with) Kickstarter campaigns that fail after a stint working with Flowplay on casino games.
It's pretty stupid that an error in carts bought caused the cancellation of a well-received game. It's good, it's unique, it has characters that could've been made memorable in future titles without the limitations of a shot-in-the-dark N64 game, and it just got killed by Hasbro's own incompetency. Don't punish the creators of a successful product because *you* didn't consider how stupid buying almost triple the amount of copies you wanted/expected from them is, without them even contributing to that error

It's a sin that we never got that Chrono remake. Where, oh were is the love for this series from Sqaure? The original game is one of the most acclaimed of all time. We really need a true 3d remake of Chrono Trigger and modern ports of Cross. or the reverse, both scenarios would be great.

Yeah it is unfortunate that the game was never been release but at the same time it was kind dumb of the devs of the fan project wanting self publish the instead of doing talks with the company Square Enix with permission. I hate to say this companies like Square Enix have the legal rights to C&D on fan projects. Had Nathan Lazur and his team did talks with the company and made a deal for them publish there project instead of development of the there under there nose then Square Enix would not pulled the plug on the fan project in the first place.

If there's a cancelled Gamecube games series, is it possible for Perfect Dark 0 to get at least a small mention? Sure it came out on Xbox but it was slated for Nintendo's purple box/2nd greatest console ever first.

Goldeneye theme music always gets me in the nostalgia..
It's admittedly kinda funny that people complained about the N64 sticking with cartridges and not switching to CDs and yet nobody bought the N64DD which would've solved that issue, even as an add-on.
The DD still didn't use CD's and could only hold 64 MB of data. It wasn't going to help.

Take a shot every time a game was planned for the 64DD but got cancelled.
Some elements from cancelled Contra 64 ended up in Contra Shattered Soldier, so it was not all in vain.
Doom Absolution was retitled to Impending Doom and moved to the Dreamcast platform before finally being cancelled altogether.

I remember that Saffire company. They were working on early Lego BIONICLE game for pc. But they were unable to finish it due to financial issues, wasting money on switching to a larger building and bad decisions and multiple game issues.

I haven't gone in depth over Crave Entertainment's game, but if I had to guess I would say Project Cairo was either a Spawn licensed game or something derived from that franchise; the popular comic book artist and the british fantasy writer being Todd McFarlane and Neil Gaiman. This would explain why the project fell apart since, other than the N64's lackluster sales for RPGs, it was during that period (the early 2000s) that Gaiman and Todd would go to court over the license of Miracleman

The 64 really had its legs cut off with the failure of the DD didn't it.
That unreleased game about the teenagers with the powers of the Greek gods sounds extremely similar to a TV show I believe was called clash of the titans.
You know whenever I hear developers talk about their cancelled or failed projects I hear a lot more self reflection, while a lot of companies try and blame everything but themselves and their product.
Developers: "well I was inexperienced and we should have controlled our scope better, etc etc."
Companies: "uhhh.....clearly this genre is dying, uhhh the woman on the box art was not marketable, uhhh I wasn't loved as a child"
I always get mad when I see promising fan projects cancelled due getting a C&D from the publisher. I understand it's about protecting rights but you have a dedicated and talented group and the company tells them to stop when they should be trying to reach an agreement to have it finished legally. Protect the rights, gain good PR, get another game for you to publish, potentially bring in promising talent, open up the franchise to a new audience, etc.
I hope WWF Backlash makes it into Part 3
