    Hey, Robert! Just a quick add to the throttle body cleaning video.
    I had done the throttle body cleaning about 20k miles/a year ago per this video and all of the sudden, when my girlfriend borrowed the car (2011 Outback 2.5), it started to hesitate upon take off...but only when the AC was on. No fault codes or anything. Acted almost like torque converter slippage 😖but I had removed the valve body, replaced the solenoids and replaced ALL of the CVT fluid after having done a thorough fluid swap out (drained/filled/drained after 3k miles/filled again) prior to the Christmas lights coming on, so...🤞🤞🤞
    Turned out to be a dirty MAF sensor! Cleaned it and when I inspected the throttle body, pulled the MAP sensor and cleaned that, too. Did the idle relearn procedure (thanks!) and all is good once again. I was really surprised I was getting no codes though.
    Thought this may help someone.

      Thank you for this information, also as you do the cleaning also always check the air filter. Mine was displaying check engine light and was still hesitating after all the cleanup until i replaced the air filter. This was after diagnosis that reported RICH AIR-FUEL mixture meaning less air much fuel. If it reports LEAN AIR-FUEL mixture, its time to check the fuel filter.

      I have an 02 forester , similar symptoms but mine feel like the back diff is trying to catch up with the front diff, like my gear gets stuck on high rpm or like if it was stick and I down shifted but once I step on the gas it pulls /jumps forward.
      I replaced the trans, fluids filters and still same.
      But I don’t think my year has a maf sensor, I’m going to try the map /tps sensors, clean the throttle body plus add a K&N filter, read some where that helped them

    2010 Forester, 218,000 miles. Rough idle, sometimes die at a stop. This procedure gave me back a smooth idle, engine doesn't die at stops. Took maybe 30 minutes. Inside of the throttle plate looked like the bottom of a tar bucket. Probably doesn't help it uses a quart of oil every 500 miles. But it's paid for and reliable.

  • @MitchDussault
    @MitchDussault ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thank you. My 2009 was bogging and stalling at stop lights. It does this every few years. The dealership always cleaned the TB but labor fees are getting out of hand so I decided to do it myself and save a bit of money and now it runs like a champ again. I didn't remove the TB fully since I don't have clamps for the cooling lines but I think I cleaned it pretty thoroughly, at least enough to get it running smoothly.

    • @LegitAverageZombie1
      @LegitAverageZombie1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you dont have the clamps you could fold the lines and zip tie them, if theyre old though it could crack them, as long as you make sure the coolant is topped off the little bit of air you get in the system should find its way to the overflow tank.
      EDIT: actually you could find a bolt to put in the line and zip it

    I have a 2013 subaru forester and my throttle bottle was so dirty it gave my car long crank when starting. Sometimes i would crank twice. And when my car did start it sounded like it hesitated so hard to keep going. This was really random, could start jsut fine for a couple days or once a day, in the morning on my way to work or after leaving work (sitting for 10 hours). Took it to a shop and the guy right off the bat said it sounded like a throttle problem. So when they were diagnosing my vehicle it was the first thing they checked and holy hell they even sent me a picture of it. I never had starting problems since and it starts like new again.

I'm going to try the intake cleaner spray for intake valves (the usual direct injection issue), and see what happens. Subaru wants thousands for the cats, so I'm going to see if cleaning things might be the answer. Her mechanic said the cat job would be around four grand, and we just dropped $4800 on the standard transmission. ....oh, thanks for the torque settings.

    Mr Subaru - I'm in limp mode with a very high idle, (the idle drops a bit when I press the brake pedal), idle is normal when I disconnect the accelerator pedal. I have tried changing the pedal but getting the same result. I have also changed the throttle body. Getting codes p1560, p2109, p0607, 2138, 2135

    Oh my god ....I so appreciate this....my 2006 Subaru Forester cross sport is having idle problems ...did an engine scan we didn't get any code or anything ....it was fine but as we removed the Maf and cleaned it ....it a little smoother but still rough ...my car has 157,900 km on it and I don't have a service history do you think this can rectify it?

    I love this channel because I learn so much. Question: I have the 2010 Forester EJ253 SOHC. Is it direct injected or port injected? I'm asking because it seems to me that the main reason to do this cleaning (as opposed to a simpler throttle body cleaning alone) is to clean the carbon buildup on the valves. If the engine is port injected it shouldn't have that buildup. Or am I wrong? Thanks, and Happy New Year!

    Good video! Thanks!
    One thing I want to ask…
    I’ve cleaned TB’s on other vehicles and was informed to never manually push open the flap. This triggers something and the car will need to go through a drive cycle hopefully reading right.
    What I’ve done is turn the key to on, put a block on the gas pedal to open the flap, then proceed to cleaning.
    My question is: is it different for Subaru?

    • @billdanner7694
      @billdanner7694 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also…. If you take it off, why move the flap anyway?

    Just cleaned out my throttle body on my 2009 Outback. Hopefully, it did the trick. I did notice a bit of a difference in the idle as I was sitting at the stop light.
    I'm still burning a lot of gas though. It was at 16.2L/100km and I just ran it on the hwy after cleaning the TB and it's down to 15L/100km on a 20 minute drive.
    Probably the fuel injectors need to be cleaned although I just had the lines blown out. Probably wasted a bunch of money doing that...
    Spark plugs were changed around 170,000km and I'm at 193,000km now so I don't think that would be it.

    MrSubaru1387 my daughter just had our 2022 Subaru impreza service at 10,800 miles. Tech suggested throttle body cleaning. The tech uploaded pictures and to me looked like a small amount of varnish on the plate and no carbon build up around the circumference of the plate or body. Is it normal for a dealership to suggest a cleaning at 13 months old and 10,800 mile? Thanks if you respond. 4:56

      Gotcha. Our Subie has a bit of a rough idle right now, so I'm hoping a good cleaning of the throttle body and running some injector cleaner through the system over the next few fill-ups should improve the idle. Is there anything else you'd recommend I do?

      @@MrSubaru1387 - My '04 Outback doesn't have a MAF sensor - only a MAP sensor, located at the throttle body. My '98 Liberty has the MAF sensor just after the air filter box, like it seems to be on most other Sube models. I have a 2020 Impreza and have used Lucas fuel injection/throttle body cleaner with each fill up. I now have 72k on it and the engine runs great with no hesitation and idles fine. As a matter of fact it runs like a scalded dog with awesome power.
