I lived your speech, am an Afrikaner woman of 67 and I recall the nonstop community activities through most of my childhood, always with an end in mind... building the school, church, municipal buildings and parks and the list goes on. My god this man is describing what is happening in our western countries as we speak. Excuse my pessimism but I really believe that it is too late, the rot is too deep. Coming back to our grassroots is what is needed, sometimes you need to step back to see the path clearly. The western people are in a fight for our lives and we need to be resilient, resourceful, innovative and above else united. And never again should we let ourselves be brainwashed as thoroughly as we have. THANK YOU FOR THE INSPIRATIONAL SPEECH!

    ‘n Volk herleef
‘n Volk was verdwaald, sy koers was hy kwyt.
Stom geslaan, oorweldig ja wie moes hy verwyt?
Maar ‘n volk red homself, sonder vrees of skuld,
Sy gees is sterk, sy hart is vry,
Ons volk herleef, hier sal ons bly.

Afrikaners were not “instructed by the British Empire to take up arms against South West Africa”. The Union of South Africa formed in 1910 did not introduce military conscription during World War I. No one was obliged/forced/required to serve Britain. Conscription was not imposed on the white population during WWII either, by which time South Africa had become a self-governing Dominion.

Actually the Smuts government went on a war economy and all food production as well as other logistical production were conscripted to support the British war effort. The Crown did not trust the loyalty of the Afrikaners hence they didn't accept them combat roles, but their food and resources were defenitly conscripted.

His actions, even if still in government garb, were perfectly rational for a patriotic young man of those days, who surely believed in Hertzog's maxim: South Africa first/Suid-Africa eerste. Would any of the above gentlemen, in opposition to our rationale have fought for the enemy, a mere 12 years after a devastating war? even expecting them to fight against an opponent (the Germans) which have never done them harm?
Still today, after more than a century, Jopie Fourie is part of new South African and Afrikaans literature, and continues to be written about (see Albert Blakes' new publication), which obviously makes rubbish of their argument that Jopie acted dishonorably.

You forget that the majority of Boers who participated in WWI (and WWII) did so to put food on the table, as government posts and commercial enterprises were practically reserved for English speaking whites and their bureaucracy, who could not be more malicious in trampling upon the vanquished Afrikaner and it's beautiful language (We'll never forget the "I am a donkey" punishment [the phrase worn around the neck, scribbled on a pice of carton] meted out to those schoolchildren who dared to speak a word Afrikaans).
I can proudly state today, more than a century after that fated day, that Jopie Fourie is a hero for most Afrikaners and holds a special part in their hearts; he who bravely awaited his punishment (which did not merit his crime, especially in those troubling times, when the ''empaaier" (and its faithful lapdog "Slim Jannie") expected the Boers to fight and risk their lives for the very state who nearly destroyed their lives and community.)
His actions, even if still in government garb, were therefore perfectly rational for a patriotic young man of those days, who surely believed in Hertzog's maxim: South Africa first/Suid-Africa eerste. Would you have fought for the enemy, a mere 12 years after a devastating war? even expecting them to fight against an opponent (the Germans) which have never done them harm?
Still today, after more than a century, he is part of new South African and Afrikaans literature, and continues to be written about (see Albert Blakes new publication), which oviously makes rubbish of your whole argument.

@@charlieventer5904that sounds like the false victimhood of the ANC/EFF cadres.
Apart from volunteering the majority of Afrikaners supported SA's entry into WW1- that's why parliament reacted to their votes. Those who strongly disagreed with the parliamentary decision resigned eg Gen Beyers and others, so your point of objectiion is irrational and false!
The British did commit offences in many ways. Does that mean one has to react like those people?
Emily Hobhouse and her ilk who opposed abuses were also British.
Jopie Fourie is only a hero to those who are indoctrinated to ignore his evil deeds.
Brig Hennie Heymans (SAP, Ret'd) does significant research into history.
He raised the issue of Fourie's murder of SAP members while he stood under a white flag. He did this while a commissioned officer in the UDF - eg he betrayed his oath of loyalty to the government of the day, before God.
That's hardly the quality of a "hero"!

Afrika is groot. Ek persoonlik verkies Suid Afrikaner.
