    I am a Christian by Birth, But I learned most of my life values reading Ramayan and Geetha based stories. First and most people should understand Hinduism is not a religion, It was beyond that and that is the greatness of it. It never came with a perfect god it just represented basic formes of resources and energy as in the form of strong entities like Bhramha, Shiva and others..
    It analysed the Universe to its entirety. I am proud to live amoung these people and if you have a look their tolerance level is what others took advantage of.. It is ok I hope Bharat learned from it. I want the old Hinduism to come back not as a religion but as a lifestyle don't let anyone to compare it with religions like Islam or Christianity. Hinduism is beyond their thought process, it is the ultimate truth.

    The first thing any Westerner needs to understand is that Hinduism or what we call Sanathana Dharma is QUITE UNLIKE Abrahamaic faiths:
    * It is not a revealed religion
    * There is no one Prophet
    * There is no One Single Book which is the Word of God, true for all times
    * There is no Original Sin
    * Unlike the God of the Christians or Allah of the Muslims, the oldest religion or Way of Life in the World believes in a Supreme Consciousness of which each individual Jiva or life is a part.
    * Within this broad framework framework there are many Schools of Thought. So one can even be an atheist and be still accomodated as a Hindu, with barely a raised eyebrow.
    * As for numeous Gods, it is the English desire for equivalence which finds Hindu Deities called Gods. Numerous Hindu Deities such as Shiva or Lakshmi or Saraswathi or Rama or Hanuman, are worshipped, as Deities with stories woven around them, with the greatest of certain attributes. Lakshmi is the Godess of Wealth, Saraswati, the Godess of Education & the Arts and Rama as the Most Ideal Man.
    * Within the same family, different people may worship different deities depending on the attributes of each and the form which most appeals to them.
    There is zero conflict and it would be a rare Hindu, who would not still bow down to deities worshipped by others or to Jesus Christ or to the Guru Granth Sahib(the sacred scripture) of the Sikhs etc.
    * This arises from the fundamental belief expressed in Sanskrit as "Ekam Sat Vipraah bahudha vadanti" ...THE TRUTH IS ONE...THE WISE DESCRIBE IT IN MANY WAYS...
    * As a consequence, Hinduism unlike the Abrahamaic religions IS NOT:
    * Supremacist
    * Exclusivist
    * Expansionist
    It is this very openness which led Hindus to give refuge and freedom to practice their religion to:
    * Jews fleeing persecution by Christians in 75 CE
    * Christianity came to India supposedly with St Thomas in 52 CE
    * The first Muslims came to India were newly converted Arab Traders. They were not only permitted to practice the new religion but were given daughters in marriage...so they became Moplahs or sons-in-law. In fact, the first mosque was built in Kerala even before the death of Prophet Muhammad in 632 CE.
    * Zoroastrians came to India between the 8th and 10th Century from Persia (Iran)fleeing the Sword of Islam.
    All of these communities and so many others sought refuge, practiced their religions and lived freely.
    The most recent arrivals were the Tibetan Buddhists who came here, with the Dalai Lama at the head fleeing the murderous PLA of the Chinese CCP under Mao.
    He remains here as a honoured guest, revered by all Indians, with his people with Dharmasala as his headquarters.
    It is to this ancient civilisation, which is at the very least 5000+ years old, now a nation of 1450 million people, with bewildering complexity, multiple races, 22 official languages, home to 121 languages, 19500 dialects, with several of its own religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism & Sikhism, that the West regularly lectures on human rights, religious tolerance etc.

    From the Jewish perspective, the speed with which Hindus have captured first managerial, then financial, and now political class in the UK and USA, is truly laudable. Congrats! Alas, it's a rotting fruit. Interesting is how little India as a country has benefited from that. Monstrous poverty, inequality (11M live in slave conditions), and total corruption on the top will prevent India from outpacing China in the next decades. Nationalism as lip service will not help. America will play India vs. China beautifully, as Anglo-Saxons always did. Will Hindus on the top help to prevent that? The ball is in your court.

India doesn't stand for Indianization of the world unlike other powers in the past or present, India itself is a diverse, pluralistic society and so it just wants the world to be one too. The development and progress will be based on cultural, economic, scientific and military exchanges/trades, while each society/country will thrive based on their individual identity instead of making the entire world just one bland type of society(that would be incredibly boring).

    Excellent analysis of Bharath that is India to most westerners, Mr. Mead has perfectly summarized the real need of the west here in his address & I only hope this understanding only grows by leaps for the good of the civilized nations of the world & not take his sane observation of Indians as Indians have several millennia of profound intellectual, scientific, spiritual, holistic & cultural knowledge in our ancient Vedas, Ithihas, Smrithis, astronomy, Ayurveda, advanced Maths & space tech. Only, this treasure & understanding was distroyed/kept under a false veil from us for last several centuries by the invaders from the ME/west & now for some decades, some of the intellectuals like Mr Mead are humble & honest enough to admit openly in support of Indias rich knowledge treasures.

    After 2014, the concept of india gradually is being rejected by the concept of bharat. It means, bharat is now significantly & scientifically conservative against colonialism, communism, socialism, extremism, terrorism, left liberalism, dollarisation, radicalization, etc, etc of any kind, under a multipolar world where truth should have the only space. It is sanatani. In order to maintain and secure the truth/sanatani, bharat has adopted the hindutwa, the way of life after 2014. Hence,the world communities need its best to think the difference between the path they are following as radicalised consevatives and the hindutwa as scientific conservatives. Because, truth, hindutwa, inly has the capacity of inclusiveness, as such democracy.

    The fear is baseless. India has a reputation of being a knowledge economy and not an aggressor. If India had an iota of aggression, it would have set up a parallel organisation and campaigned support successfully from 100+ nations to create UN equivalent that is more rational than the world order dictated by a few security council members. India has rather taken an approach to endlessly pursue convincing existing members without much success. Modern India is culturally drawn into creating a more cohesive world even though it has seen its share of bloodshed for centuries from invaders. My take is that it is a positive development that the world’s largest democracy and one of the youngest nations is growing. India is setting benchmarks in climate change, education and culture. I am sure it is going to be incomparably better than the last 30 years of growth seen in communist regimes.

    Every body who was familiar with world history, knew when Japan has bombed pearl harbour in second world war , that they have awakened a "Sleeping Giant" !
    Slowly, you can say , most of the Asian countries are now getting out of their colonial past &

      Mr. Guha's latest interview with his like-minded buddy Karan Thapar on current events in Bangladesh was nauseating. It is not Mr. Modi's fault that lsIamists have taken over the country.
      Mr. Mead should diversify and get his "India/Hindu" perspectives from a wide spectrum that is available on You Tube. A good start would be PGurus, Palki Sharma, Arnab Goswami... and many others.
      There must be a reason why Indian/Hindus have overtaken the white populations of the UK, US and Canada.
      In America, Indian women make the same as white men, despite entering the work force much later in life.
      I know several such examples. I am using statistics from Google Search and Wikepedia.

    I do not understand, why western intellects are surprised by Rise of India. 1700 years in last 2000 years of human history, India is no 1 or no 2 economic power in the world. Last couple of centuries were wasted by non resistance to British colonial exploitation. That is due to the fact that India has not invaded another country and military wa weak. But Indian soft power through Buddhism and Hinduism philosophy and science and technology and music and food is everywhere in the world. 3000 years ago there was Nalanda university with 15000 students. Chinese visitors have documented how much ahead of time that university was. Name is Hiuen Tsan. Best cotton cloth was imported from India by Roman empire thousands of years ago. Indian spices were the first food preservation technology. Sugar was Indian first and Indian labor propagated it to Mauritius, Caribbean and other places. Indian architecture is visible in templates in Thailand, Cambodia, Bali and many places. India shall rise and lead for sure. Intellectually, through human capital, philosophically, scientifically, through Music and classical dancing and every important dimension of human greatness!
