Almost all "bed in a box" mattresses don't "need" a boxspring. Making matters even more confusing, there was time when a box spring was literally a box with springs in it. Nowadays, that's not the case. Most box-springs are really just a sturdy foundation. If you looked inside you'd just see a bunch of solid wires, bars, or slats.
This video gave the correct answer: you must know what type of mattress you have, what type of bed frame you are using and what total height you want the bed to be before anyone can answer this question. Box spring vs foundation vs bunkie board - there is NO simple answer.
All a box spring is for is height and support for the springs. You can completely use a sheet of plywood in its its place, and save a couple hundred dollars. All it needs to do is prevent spring sag.
Boxspring beds became a fashion here in the Netherlands. My 15 yrs old daughter got one recently, she loves the look of it but I find it just a dust catcher. A normal bed with a slatted base is much more ventilating under the bed and a boxspring is so much more difficult with vacuum cleaning the floor under it. Also you can't adjust the support from a boxspring like you can do with a slattes base. I regret that I bought a boxspring for my daughter.
Very true. I bought one for my room and one for my daughter but I don't like it very much . I am thinking of changing my bed again to a normal bed.may be just buy one from ikea Delft .

So true. We recently bought a low-profile "box spring" and it virtually has no give at all.
It seems like box springs are more about height adjustment which can get someone to fall out of bed as opposed to getting up out of bed
The height makes a difference
Still did not answer the question...
true
so do I need a box spring?
Nope

Well it was a bad decision for me to watch this video for help sheesh
ABC undecisive unhelpful...it doesn't matter as long as you have support under the mattress that's all a box spring is for
So the floor would do?
the matress industry...adds to the confusion...
"It really all comes down to the warranty"?
Why TF do we even watch the news anymore?!!!!
Lol
I always use a box spring with my foam mattress even with a slat bed!

It’s all because of the height yo, no body want to sleep near the floor where all those dust and dirt lys
Depends on bed.
