5:29 How Can I Increase The Height Of My Bed?
    5:45 Wrap-Up
So, what is the right bed height? Well, it really depends on the person. Taller people are going to want a high bed while shorter people are going to be better off with a low bed. Sitting near the edge of the bed, it should look like the legs are at close to a 90-degree angle. This will make it easy to get in and out of bed.
There are so many types of bed frames and foundations to choose from and they will give the bed a different height. For instance, platform beds are lower and will be better for short people and those who want a modern, sleek look in their bedroom.
Traditional beds with standard frames will need a boxspring, so they will be a bit taller. These are a good fit for people of pretty much any size and those who want a classic-looking bedroom. Antique beds are much higher and are a good match for taller people and those who want a classic look in their bedroom. Futons are going to be a better fit for guest rooms, but won’t be the best for taller people.

Also a thought, when you sit on the edge of your bed, you will sink a bit which lowers the mattress height when it matters, so perhaps making your bed taller will still give you the right knee height with that in mind

I have one mattress in my house that sits on a platform bed, my bed however is on what I would guess is a more traditional style bed, with a box spring and large mattress. I happen to like sleeping a little higher off the ground, but I don't think it affects my sleep. I'm tempted to measure the distance from the floor, but I know that with this mattress is too high for my 7 pound dog to jump onto. That may have helped my sleep more than anything else.

I came here after buying a Robot Vacuum. The height I needed is for the Vac to move easily under the bed. But it is better to rethink and learn more about beds and if the highrise bed is better for air flow eaither cooling or hygienically.

I inadvertently made our bed high. First the side frame of the footer and bed was damaged and had to replace it with a generic one. I think that might have increased it by a couple of inches. Then the box spring that came with the an old matttress broke had to get one those DIY BED box that made it even higher. Our dog peed on our tempurpedic mattress we then had to replace that mattress. Since the tempurpedic mattress was very expensive (we got ours more than 15 years earlier) We got some thing that was 1000 dollars cheaper. We got a Serta iSeries 2000 which was a medium firm mattress. We had no idea this thing got to be almost like a table! 😂 😂 😂 😂 i had to order a low bedside stepper!

Hi Marten - I don't think you mentioned which bed height is best for you yourself, which would've been helpful. We're in our early-mid 60s now, husband is 6'6 weighs 280-pounds, I'm 5'6 weigh 170-pounds, we've had our bed 35-years with three mattresses, and are spec-ing up our "final forever" bed, so mattress/mattresses have to 7' long, not so easy to find here in the UK, but I have some sources lined up. Even at 24-inches high I find our current bed sometimes has its limitations. If my husband suffers a sudden back spasm, it's very difficult for him to move off the bed once he's swung round to the sitting-on-the-edge position without my help, and I don't relish providing a human pivot support to him as we both get older! It's hard enough now! If we have to source a bespoke bed base, I'd rather factor in additional height for the final bed height now, maybe get a wooden frame with higher/longer bed upright posts which can be sawn off at the base in later years when we both lose height ourselves through ageing. So what bed height do you currently sleep on? Would be grateful for your comments.

Hi thanks for such a wonderful video. I have a 12" mattress without box spring. We use it directly on the floor since the height is good. Now we have decided to buy bed but confused on what to buy whether upholstered or low profile? We are not interested in buying box spring since the bed will be too height. Myself and my husband are of decent height I am 5"3 and my husband is 5"7 so too much height can affect us we are looking for a lower one without box spring. Which one would you recommend upholstered or low profile?

I'm only 6'4" and used to have a traditional innerspring mattress with box spring on an old school metal frame. Then, I switched to a 10" latex mattress that sits on a platform bed (no foundation or box spring) and it's definitely lower. I don't love it, but it's not as low as some low profile platform beds I've seen. Would prefer to sleep higher. But, to be honest, once you are lying down it doesn't really matter. It's more a matter of getting in and out of bed and sitting on the edge where the height matters.

I heard that a higher bed height will make it easier for someone with mobility problems to get out of bed as you're closer to standing and it's less effort to slide out of bed, was hoping you might demonstrate that. Also, tip I heard from bob & brad, it's easier for someone with lower back or back pain to roll out of bed, then to do a sit up in the morning as it'll keep the spine straighter when doing so.

It's a nice place to scoot things for a fast way to clean up the room!!😉..hehe I've often wondered why we used box springs and I guess this is why (easier to get in and out of). You can also slip a bunky board or a thick piece of plywood under your box spring to increase height. I want my bed 30” off the ground and I’ve done a ton of research as to why- most hotel beds average at 30”-32” high which makes me think of luxury, and who wouldn’t want their beds to feel luxurious

Yes I have two box springs sets myself. It is extra high but curious if you can tell me what a bunny board is please?

I can honestly say I have never met a futon that I loved. I have a question. If you are more along the lines of plus sized will the height of a bed affect you?

    • @Mattressclarity
      @Mattressclarity  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Not so much the bed height, but the mattress thickness for sure. Plus sized people definitely want a thicker bed.

I'm 5'2" 120 lbs, small female and my bed is 27" high which is perfect for me. My husband is 5'11" 250 lbs, his bed was at 26" and was a struggle to get out of, too low; so we got it now at 30" high (tape measured from ground to top of mattress not sitting on it). Higher beds you can just slide over and you're already almost standing. We think higher beds are easier to get in and out of. I have another bed at 17" and it is much too low. Low beds make me have to do a plank just to get out of the bed. To each his own.

If they weren't so expensive I'd invest in an actual futon, not these weird things we've taken to calling futons. Had one while I was living in Japan, and it took a while to get used to, but once you do it's great.

I love having a high bed, but my parents clearly are getting to the point where lower is better., plus it;s easier for the dogs to jump into bed with them. But the floor is too low for us.. I think hip height is perfect.

Yeah I would like to see a 3'4" person POV on this, average female high. Because I'm used to my feet dangling off everything and never planting firmly on the floor. Climbing in and out of bed is just kinda normal, with life.
My partner and I bought a particular hight of bed frame based on what would be a good hight for sex.

Not all us short people want short bed. 27" is great, just slide my leg over and let it drop and I'm already standing up and out of the bed quicker. That way I can go from laying down to standing up in a second without having to sit first.

Im 5'4" and I have a taller bed where my feet dangle five inches off the floor. I want something lower, where it is easier to get in and out of bed. Im on macybeds as we speak, buying a low profile bed frame 6.0", a low profile box spring 5.5", and a 10.5" - 11" mattress. Im tired of it being hard to climb in and out of my bed.
