My Muslim Heart: Dating Outside My Faith (Dating Documentary) | Real Stories

  • Hidden Heart follows the stories of three second-generation British Muslim women who find love outside their faith. The film delves intimately into their struggle to reconcile modernity with tradition; their internal conflicts and their fear of ostracism and sheds light on the hidden tensions in our modern society between integration and tradition and the people who are at the heart of it. The film explores a new vision of cultural identity, defying the notion of a so-called 'clash of cultures' and challenging barriers to understanding between different communities. Although focusing on the lives of British men and women, the film will strike a chord with any and all of those around the world living in a tight-knit community, under pressure to maintain their identity.

That's the thing u don't change ur religion for another human being. It is Allah who guides whom he wills. And if He wants u to change ur religion and become a Muslim then He will through another person or just like that without anyone telling u to become a Muslim. So it's really not up to us, it's Allah. That's why we Muslims r extremely grateful and thankful for Islam bcuz Allah has chosen us to worship Him and guided us to Him. Idk if you understand but I just try to give you our Muslims perspective to it

I must respectfully clarify that the assertion presented contains misinformation. The issue at hand is not a reflection of the religion Islam but rather cultural practices prevalent in specific regions and communities, particularly in the Subcontinent and Arab cultures. As an African Muslim, I can attest that no one is compelling me to marry a cousin or relative, nor are parents arranging marriages for me. It's crucial to understand that cultural practices can differ significantly across various regions and communities, even within the same religious framework. Islam, as outlined in the Quran and the teachings of our Prophet, promotes independence for women and does not endorse compulsion in matters such as marriage. It's essential to differentiate between cultural norms and religious principles, as misrepresentation can lead to misunderstandings. I hope this clarification helps provide a more accurate perspective on the matter.

So you'rre basically saying everything good is from religion and everything bad is from culture? How realistic is that position?
For example, arranged marriage is as Islamic as it is a part of Desi or Arab culture. Especially for girls. Both our culture and religion encourage communal and familial obligations over the individuality we find in the West.

    • @JH-zs3bs

When it comes to Islam vs Culture, the rule to follow is almost always: Everything good came from the culture that place had before Islam, everything bad comes from Islam.

    • @Sara-eo8py
      @Sara-eo8py หลายเดือนก่อน +12

To an extent ur right, but the thing is people have to realize there is nothing wrong with arranged marriages. This is very different from a forced marriage and people need to realize that. I also wanted to say that this video is about women dating outside of their faith. The two problems here is that they are dating, which is the issue and is haram, and second, they are getting with people outside of their faith which is veryyy haram. As muslim women, we are not allowed to marry a non muslim man, only muslim men are allowed to do that (marry women from monotheistic religions). So the fact that people are taking it as Islam doesn’t accept l Muslims to marry others from different cultures and ethnicities is pissing me off. Its actually totally okay, and Muslims from all backgrounds should be treated equally, it’s just the only thing that’s not allowed is that, like mentioned earlier, Muslim women cannot marry non Muslim men. Period. Otherwise it the marriage isn’t valid and she’ll be living the rest of her life in haram.

At a certain point in one's life, one must accept the realization of being an adult, and then actually make an adult decision. If you want to marry someone, then do it and deal with the consequences in a mature manner. Being of the same religion is not a prerequisite to a happy or a successful marriage. Love and respect for one another are necessary. I am a Christian married to a Hindu. I've never made my wife do anything she hasn't wanted to do, and nor have I ever prevented her from doing anything she has truly wanted to do. By the love and grace of God, we have had a wonderful marriage now for 47 years..

God ordered for piety, self control and respect for religious sanctities.
It's what you get when you say you are a Muslim.
      That's the deal.
And Islam is Not by compulsion. It's personal choice. You are free to adopt something else which is Not Islam.
But don't claim to be Muslim while doing the opposite of a Muslim should be doing.
Rather a straight unbeliever than a Two-faced hypocrite.
Besides that; under Islamic rule, that lady is living in sin, by marrying a non muslim, which is Not counted as legal marriage in Islam.
But she still remains Muslim, so long as she does her other obligations like praying 5 times a day and believing in God and his messengers.
She is technically Muslim, but in a sinful situation.

My first question is , if muslims believe their faith is the most important thing, why are they moving into Western countries with their own religion and philosophy?
In regards to true Christian doctrine, parents are to raise up their children according to the Bible, and that will continue until the child leaves their parents home. The only thing parents can do, is discipline them, and give them the reason why things are withheld from them. By just giving them rules, without telling the reason or consequences behind the laws, this is where I believe we do a great disservice to children. Ultimately, when they leave their parents home, all the parents can do is hope that they have taught their children well, because they must be given freedom to make their own choices.
The idea of controlling children, or forcing them into arranged marriages is repulsive. If you are born into a culture, where this is all one knows, or is socially acceptable, I can comprehend it, but moving to London and then trying to impose these values on your kids is absurd.

I think no human should ever be at ease knowing that the partner was blackmailed into converting. If they voluntarily do it, well and good. But if it's your family pushing him/her to the edge till they result to a decision they'd have never made...then, your convertee spouse is living in religion captivity.
You met a grown human and loved everything about them. They're well mannered, loving, handsome/beautiful, responsible and every virtue, then someone imagines that it's ok to rob them off their faith/ religion😥 It's selfishness. Dreams of a loving couple shouldn't be shattered by religion.
I have seen a Jew getting married to a Christian with not having to denounce their faith. I have also seen a Muslim girl marrying to a Christian man and they are still together but away from the troublesome family.
At some point love is going to win over religious intolerance.

I would like to clarify some misconceptions that I have encountered in the comments. Muslim women are not allowed to marry non-Muslim men, and non-Muslim men or women cannot convert solely for the purpose of marriage. Muslim men, on the other hand, can marry women of the book, although this is disputed as some believe Christians are no longer true monotheists. While the practice is allowed for men, it is generally discouraged, and these rulings are not in dispute.
One of the tenets of Sharia is obeying the law of the land, and women are free to make their own choices. However, in the eyes of Islam, the marriage is considered null. When consummated, the individuals involved remove themselves from the framework of Islam, and this is something they must accept. Nevertheless, compassion for them is not precluded.
The reasons why Muslim women cannot marry non-Muslim men are numerous, and I will list a few below:
    Inheritance rights
    Mehr rights
    Family rights
All of the above fall under Islamic marriage contracts and cannot be enforced when a Muslim woman marries a non-Muslim man. Contrary to popular belief, Islam actually provides robust rights to women within marriage. Examples include:
Meher (a woman sets a price for her hand in marriage)
The man has to provide all financial needs, and the woman's money is her own. It's often joked that "the woman's money is her money, the man's money is her money."
    No obligations for chores.
    The ability to divorce.
Additional requirements that can be set during the marriage contract.
In Islam, we believe in love, but we also hold the concept that love is developed over time through trials and tribulations, not blind lust. The key principle is the harmony of the family unit, which takes precedence above all else.
What this means is if a couple devorces for example a clean split with no kids, the man keeps all his assets and the woman only walks away with her meher the price that she sets, think of this as a built in pre-nup, as she has no requormemts for any contribution towards the household.
There is more complexity to all of this, howeber this is just a broad understanding as to why the rules are set the way they are.
