Have you ever wondered how you can make your watercolours look more contemporary? In this demonstration I show how I created two semi abstract watercolour landscape paintings using a medium called aquapasto. This is a fantastic medium that add body to the watercolour paints but maintains the transparency. Once down you can drag the watercolour and aquapasto mix about and make marks in it using silicon tools or just the end of your paintbrush!. I talk about the colour palettes I chose for each and talk briefly about the principles I followed when making colour mixing choices.
I love to get feedback from people so if you have any questions or comments then let me know in the comments section below the video.

I've just bought some Aquapasto and am looking forward to trying it. I enjoyed watching you paint and feel inspired to get my Aquapasto out tomorrow!
Thats great, I hope it goes really well. I think it is a fantastic medium! :)
@notbroken4342 Thank you for spelling out what she was referring to because I didn't have a clue. Aquapasto. That's a new word for me. Thanks.
Love all the textures ❤
Thank you 😊
Love how you used the wedge to pull the paint. So cool! 😍
Yes its really fun too!
@@annamabellaedgley my aquapasto just arrived. Can’t wait to play tomorrow. 😍
Exciting! Fill me in on how it goes..
so you inspired me
not in such a direct "do this" way
but a more general way, and it worked out fantastic
bravo and thank you
That is fantastic to hear! I am so glad you found inspiration from the demonstration. Thank you for your feedback it means alot.
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing the approach and how you make composition choices. I really appreciate it and love your style.
Thank you so much, it is really nice to get your feedback. I am so glad you enjoyed it.
I really do like the way to get to the art piece. I’ll try it, too. Thanks for showing.
I am glad it was helpful, thank you ☺️
Excellent video. Aquapasto is now on my shopping list!

Absolutely beautiful ! Thank you!
Thank you! 😊
I Love Abstract these are just Lovely and are inspiring ❤. Thank You So Very Much for sharing ❤
I am so glad you like them, thank you!
Love love this video! So low key but with so many gems within it. I had to laugh at Cerulean blue part. You put it exactly where I wanted it to go! Great minds n'all that 😆. Cheers from Aus!😎
Haha yes!! I hovered that cerulean blue over the painting for alot longer than it seems in the video as I had to speed it up quite abit 😂 really glad you enjoyed it!
I love these! & especially like your use of quadrants for balance. I wonder if nori paste will work like aquapasto.. I'm about to find out 😘
I have never heard of nori paste, let me know how you get on if you get a chance! Thank you 🤩
I find your demonstration exciting. My work I’d representational and I have so wanted to loosen it up but have not known where to begin really. Even without the aquapadto This looks like such fun. Have just subscribed.
I am so happy to hear that. Thank you!. I hope you can find some inspiration for more abstract work. I love all types of art, representational and abstract and I think its fun to give it all a go :)
Really love your technique & end result!! Just added this medium to my online shopping cart 😂
Brilliant, I hope it goes well!
Thanks so much for sharing your process; appreciated! Looking forward to more. :-)
Fantastic thank you for your feedback 😊
thank you for sharing this beautiful works
You are welcome, thank you
Beautiful
Thank you ☺️
After watching your earlier videos on aquapasto, I decided to order some and it arrived yesterday. I've been trying to figure out how to get texture by layering with watercolor. I'm so inspired by Van Gogh and Monet and the texture in their oil paintings, but not wanting to switch to a new medium that I'm unfamiliar with. I'm looking forward to more of your videos with aquapasto, as I begin my own experiments with it. So far, you are the only watercolor artist on TH-cam that is currently exploring this medium. Thank you!
Oh fantastic! You can also add it to gouache which can be used in conjunction with watercolour. I have one landscape video where I also add white which creates an opaque paint which I then mix with the aquapasto. I think its a great medium without having to move to oils or acrylic which I feel are more toxic if you have children / pets or are in a shared space. Or if you just have lots of watercolour paints to use! Good luck 😊
@@annamabellaedgleyYes, the toxicity of oils and acrylics is why I stay with watercolors and gouache.
Have you tried any of the water soluble oils? I have plans to look into it to check the toxicity against watercolour/ gouache. At this point I dont know much about them.
Lovely paintings Anna!
I've been working more with watercolor this year and now I'm curious to try Aquapasto. I've heard the name, but never really paid attention to what it is. Thank you for sharing your process.
I only discovered it myself about 6 months ago after years of using watercolour. Its also made me really curious about other mediums. But I immediately loved using aquapasto so I hope you enjoy using it too!
So beautiful
Thank you so much
❤❤❤Thank you❤❤❤
❤️ ❤️
Very interesting Bella. Coincidentally, I was experimenting today with watercolours and aquapasto… after watching your videos of this technique. I was trying to get the effect of rippling waves on a rock pool, using aquapasto… perhaps you could have a go at something similar? Thanks for sharing your experiments, as you’ve opened up a fascinating new avenue for me. Mick. 😊
Sounds interesting, let me know how it goes. I can certainly have a think about something like that. Yes layering it over a base image for a water effect could be very interesting! Really glad the video was helpful. Thank you for your comment.
Hi, i enjoy your vidéo painting session. I really like the result. It is inspiring. Than k you! Jacqueline
Thank you for your comment and support. I am so glad you liked the video!
awesome1
Thanks
Super 😊
😊
Brava!😊
Thank you! 😃
This is very inspirational thanks for sharing..what sketch book do you like for your little experiments? It seems to be like a hot press paper..thanks
Its a hahnemuhle watercolour sketchbook. I am pretty sure they come in 2 weights and that this is the heaviest weight. I have used both though and they are both great. It is quite a smooth paper. Not sure if HP or CP. I will try and check. I should do a video on it as a few people asked. Really glad you liked the demonstration.
What means " aquapasto" in french ? Thank you for these beautiful effects ! I love it.
Hello! I had a look but I dont think there is a translation. It comes in a tube like toothpaste and if you search for it online it will probably show up. Its a grainy jelly like medium. Hope you manage to find it!
@@annamabellaedgley thanks !👄😁😉
Absolutely loved it all - really beautiful work! Never having worked with watercolour, am I safe to assume you were 'wet on wet' throughout - or have I missed some details? Thanks ever so much - happy to 'Subscribe' and 'Like'
Hello! Thank you.. yes alot of this is wet on wet but I think some areas were dry when I put additional layers on. So really a mix between the two. I hope this helps. Thank you for subscribing:)
How interesting thankyou! I'd be interested to know whose masking tape you used? I had a roll of fluorescent pink plasticy stuff for years and it was so reliable and very low tack but enough to reuse over and over. But, alas, I am at the end of the roll and everything I have tried thus far has pulled the surface of my papers up :-(
Thankyou! I use a tape from my local art shop but it is unbranded. Its very similar to washi tape though and having used that in the past I think maybe if you google that and ‘low tack ‘ masking tape you might find something similar. Im about to move so I will keep my fingers crossed that I can find more of it in the next shop! Or I will do a similar google search. Good luck and hope you find something similar 😊
You could try sticking the tape to your clothes before sticking it to the paper. The bits of fabric should make the tape less tacky.
Yes! This is a great idea. I find jeans the best for this
i was advised to gently use an iron on the tape to warm it before carefully removing tape
.
@@helenbowley8079 that is interesting! Yes I can imagine that would work
A squid g hahaha sorry love that.
😂
abstract is easy a 6 year old does it all the time
Yes I agree up to 6 kids are great abstract artists, after that we have to teach ourselves how to do it again!
Actually, a good abstract is not easy
The great irony is that realism is much easier to do than abstract, but sells easier for more $!
Watching you work inspires me!
Years ago, I studied art and, later, used to teach at a preschool. There, I saw many fabulous abstract paintings created by 2.5 to 5 year olds. Sometimes, the artists would stop in time, but more often, the paintings were overworked and lost into muddiness.
It didn't take away from the value of the creative activity, but I would have loved to frame some of those lost masterpieces!!Haha. Knowing when to stop is key to most artforms, no matter what the age of the artist. Imo. 🎨😄
