    Perylene violet is one of my favorite colors and is a NECESSARY part of my palette. I love mixing perylene violet with other colors as well as using it on its own. I’ve also found that it’s GREAT mixed with....hm....I can’t remember what I use but anyway, it’s great for a warm midtown skin. Probably I use it with Quin Gold since I’m also completely addicted to Quin Gold. =>.

      Oto Kano I’m not really sold on the maroon if I’m honest, but not for any real reason. 🤷‍♀️ just doesn’t thrill me I guess.
      And yeah, the skin mixes perylene violet makes are gorgeous! I painted half an Egyptian goddess (maybe. Not really sure.) once and I think it was perylene violet and burnt sienna and her skin was soooo prettttyyyyy.

    OTO these are both wonderful. I tend to lean more to the violet but I really love the maroon more. I would have to scream uncle on this and get them both. I actually kept passing up on this video because I didn't think that they would be colors I would be interested in. This series has done something amazing with me. It has taught me something I wanted to understand more and that was color mixing. I agree I like the mixing better on the violet, but looking at the neutrals you could get with the maroon makes me think that I would want that one as well. Thanks again for the education on colors. This series has made me a very happy girl.

    Perylene! Perylene! Perylene!
    Perylene Maroon is one of my favorite colors and I have been curious for a long time how it compares with the violet. They are both beautiful colors.
    I often use Perylene Maroon with Perylene Green to make blacks. I also use it in darker skin tones as a warming color.
    I’m curious though because the two Perylene Maroons I have ( Schmincke and Eventually Everything Mixes) seem like the hue more like a mix between these two colors than anything else. Maybe it’s my screen? Now I want to compare!
    Oh and yes! A video about all the Perylene colors!

    These colours are both super dreamy! Wow. I don't have room in my current palette, but it totally makes me want to make a goth palette of just dark, deep colours such as these. Those salt washes turned out so gorgeous too!

    • @OtoKano
      @OtoKano  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      omg a goth palette? I LOVE IT. Woooo what else would go in there? Carbazole violet for sure?

    • @LeySketch
      @LeySketch 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oto Kano Yes, definitely! Also indanthrone blue. Payne's grey, because I love it so. Shadow violet? Permanent brown is quite deep, but I think it might be too similar to perylene maroon. Ugh, a goth palette would be so much fun to make!

    • @OtoKano
      @OtoKano  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What about something like Perylene green as well? we need a deep pure red too, a blood red color.

  • @eternal8song
    @eternal8song 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I really love perylene maroon because (and I realize this sounds morbid) it looks very close to drying blood, so it's great for painting scrapes and cuts for when I paint a portrait of a character who's been in a fight (it happens a lot). Pyrrol red with a tiiiiiiiiny bit of phthalo blue is perfect for fresh blood IMO.

    I love love love the newer perylene colours! They have this beautiful muted.. down to earth vibe to me which draws me to them. I'm loving how more companies are making perylene colours more common such as the greens and brownish reds instead of just the bright reds that were on the market for some time.

    I now have a split fullpan in a couple of my palettes that contains perylene violet and perylene green. These neutralize to a deep, dark black and are useful shadow colours alone and together for everything from red roses to spring green leaves and everything in between.

    • @OtoKano
      @OtoKano  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      wooo I am going to have to try mixing the perylene violet and green. Thank you very much for your tip!

    • @LeeAngold
      @LeeAngold 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Perylene Green will actually mix pitch black with nearly anything in the red family. The mix with Perylene violet is actually a very dark....purpley indigo? But can go so dark valued it doesn't matter that it's not pure black, it LOOKS black...but also shadowy :)

    Perylene Maroon by Schmincke is an absolute staple on my palette, it's one of these paints that I really could not live without. I even frequently mix my blacks with it in combination with Phtalo Green. I haven't used the Daniel Smith version, though this is one of the colors where I've heard from other people that Schmincke's version is superior so I think that i'm just gonna stick with it haha. This one does look more brownish and less saturated than mine but it's hard to judge on screen.

      @OtoKano  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, that's a great question! I mix whatever that looks good. Especially when mixing strong colors like these ones, if I mix half and half, most of them will just look Perylene! For this series, I wanted to show how each colour influences other colours, rather than takes over. Does that makes sense?

      Yeah, they will be my first DS paints. :) I got a tip just recently, where I can get the DS paints for prices, that are ok, so I used the opportunity. Are you sure you added enough Perylene Violet to the color mixes? I thought a dark color like that would have much more of an effect on the mixes, especially the greens and yellows.

    • @OtoKano
      @OtoKano  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are absolutely right, I only added a bit of both perylenes into the color mixes. As you said, they are so strong, they very easily overtake any other colors. So I wanted to show how adding a little bit can influence the other colors, rather than end up with a chart of 12 swatches with little differences between them. Your point is noted though, thank you, I will bare that in mind next time when I am mixing with a strong color.
