And then, the _pièce de résistance._ The _cherry on top_ of it all?
      My fucking magical girl lovu-lovu-beamu. Stood in the middle of a pack of enemies... firing a fucking laser beam from his necklace.
      I'm not an RPer, so things like that normally don't bug me... but you've gotta laugh haven't you?
      But... I can't deny it didn't feel damn good at the time. Sure, being hardcore it made it a mundane grind of levelling up your cloak and staying on top of BiS essences and corruption rolls, but, if you look at anyone else remotely more casual, they're getting random items that blow shit up at the end of an expansion where it's like "fuck it... we might as well go nuts before the next expansion comes and strips us of our power, again."
      It's not what I want from WoW, put it that way... but, if it gets to that stage in Shadowlands and starts mimicking BfA where I lost interest from the start all the way up until the Mechagon patch, I'll be well glad for something _like_ (but not) corruptions.

      @@capitaldcolon1795 I'm going to have to disagree with you on azerite.
      Essentially, since all the rings are randomly assigned each time, you'd have to reroll so many times that you're never going to get the actually optimal selection on every item unless you're very lucky. Now, WoW has always been luck based, but in the past there were lots of ways to get BiS gear quickly without relying on RNG.

Having to fight over gear is dumb and annoying and I can’t even imagine how annoying it was back in the day for WoW where you can spend 2-5 hours on a raid and not get anything just because of bad luck and having upgrades swiped by greedy players who don’t even need it

    • @indeed2207
      @indeed2207 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BullFrogFace it wasn't annoying at all in first wow expansion. you were in a team, a guild, much like a friend group, not a group of random solo players, which is what made me hate raids in wow. You had to work all week for the guild, to help the other member, and most of guild were really serious about that, kicking instantly the players that were fucking around. If you wanted to play as a solo player, you won't enter a guild, that's not where you belong. You were gaining "fame" in the guild, and that how things were most of the time offered. You work well, you get rewards if you participate in big events like raids. Obviously, main healers and tanks were first for every loots, because they are the most importants. But then, most of the time, it was about how much you worked for the guild. Except main grinding guild that were fighting for world first, others guild were kinda chill and friendly, everyone had their chances, you just needed to help others. Main guild were obviously giving gear to the class that were doing most damages, to further boost their damages. Other were giving gears to good players, so they would help the guild more, and spread the word that the guild was cool.

A neat way to do it would be to feature a run though of the dungeon, while explaining why each boss is there and the lore behind them. I'm sure there are alot of folks who don't know why you need to defeat the defias brotherhood, or why they have an ogre working with them? Why do we fight all those Dark Iron dwarves when they are part of the alliance? What is the deal with the Occulus? The system would have been perfect if you were able to disenchant 1 to 2 in order to craft the one you want.

      He than got a BiS legendary on an alt and stopped playing his main, cause he was so frustrated.

    • @potatoespotatos
      @potatoespotatos 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      IMO BC and WotLK had the best iteration of flight, where you had to pay a somewhat expensive fee at max level to fly. BUT, there were actual perks to flying. Places you couldn't reach and quests/reps you couldn't access without flying (think the Netherstorm and Ulduar dungeons/raid, as well as the Netherwing and Skettis content), entire zones that could hardly work without flying (Storm Peaks and Icecrown). The usual complaint that flying makes certain parts of the game too easy and convenient makes sense, yes, but that argument is very much mitigated when flying is actually integrated into the game experience, rather than being there just for convenience's sake, as it's been after LK. Pathfinder is a bit of a lazy compromise, IMO. It is as if Blizz were saying "we're too lazy to design content tailored for flight, but since you folks still want to be able to fly and do stuff, here's some time-gating for ya. Enjoy your grinds!"

    • @smthng
      @smthng 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The initial idea is great, but they should really tone down some of the rep-related requirements. I'm all for mechanisms that subtly coerce players into enjoying more content, but the Pathfinder thing got out of hand. Completing the storylines and doing a couple of rep quests is perfect if you ask me, but having to collect junk in Mechagon and kill mobs in Nazjatar was really cumbersome.

Such as in games like guild wars 2 where you choose which stats template you want to use and other customizable pieces. And Lost ark let’s you put a set amount of points into what stats you wanna max out. I think these are way more competitive ideas but at least making pvp gearing easier or having a low disparity of gear has worked fine in DF.

    I personally like the adventure sense and interactions with people that not being able to fly bring to the table... but that eventually wears off, so it's nice to being able to fly for convinience when you have "exhausted" the zones.

    • @royalcat10
      @royalcat10 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was the biggest problem, though. You felt encouraged to play PvP because you got a leg up over people that play PvP as their main focus. The people that actually primarily wanted to play PvP got *discouraged* from playing because they were forced to slog through a bunch of PvE content they never liked... While you got a free pass because you were already doing that anyways. (And presumably enjoyed it, which is fine.) Previously when there was resil or pvp power, *everyone* started on ground 0 and had to work their way up for every new character. The only way to get better at PvP was to... Play PvP. The PvE players that felt "discouraged" by that system weren't really, because *everyone* had to go through the same thing, including PvP players. It was just they didn't want to put in the work to get better that everyone else had to do. (Not necessarily speaking about you specifically.) I don't see how anyone can call it fair that players that apparently didn't even really like the PvP aspect of the game got priority and special catering over the people that actually did like it and play it.
      Imagine if you were forced to do lots of PvP content to be competent in PvE... Sounds unfair, right? So why was it fair the other way around?

But I've always wanted to actually experience end game content in a watered-down form at least just to see it and maybe get some raid pieces, without having to fight for a raiding spot and with the expectation that I have to show up at a certain time twice a week. I found, after playing the first LFR back in Cata, that I quite enjoyed LFR if only just to make that my "personal roof" on itemization and to do this type of content whenever I feel like it. Like it did have some big problems on release, but they fixed the problems by removing tier set bonuses from lfr and delaying the hell out of its released in comparison to regular content. And the other argument is just a Gate Keeping one, where they feel you shouldnt experience the raid unless its on its hardest difficulty.

It would also occasionally setup greedy situations where people would have azurite pieces they could trade b/c they already had them but would then keep them just to not have to pay 40k gold to respec them on top of having a specific place they have to go to respec them. Also at the very beginning of the expansion azurite gear wasn't even tradeable.

I cant tell you how many trinkets/rings etc. that my friends wanted badly I had to DE/sell in BfA.

    I absolutely hated corruptions back then. I hated how my characters could get corruption long before they'd even be at the right item level to be able to get the cloak without being stomped on by the quest mobs, I hated the ugly purple shit corruption levels added to my character and ruining all those carefully-made transmog sets. I hated having to grind up that stupid cloak on every alt in order to even be able to equip the corrupted items without N'Zoth splurging his purple jizz all over my character.

    8:48 the solution to this pay2win issue is to simply remove or modify BoE items:
    1. Can still have drops off random trash in raids, but just make them bind on pickup and/or set up so they are treated like raid loot, only tradable to someone in the raid group for up to 2 hours (only if you have something equal or higher in the slot).
    That or :
    2. No BoEs drop until mythic is cleared.. BoEs are unlocked worldwide for all players once someone achieves world first.
    Either one of these will eliminate the majority of investment in the Pay2Win to get world first and allow guilds that don't have hundreds of millions of gold to spend to have a shot at achieving world first.

    The biggest problem with Azerite armor as somebody who dropped BFA early on was, as a Ret main my best Azerite trait was a trait that increased Avenging Wrath duration. Like this trait was so good it was worth sacrificing like 20-30 ilvls just to have a piece with this trait because early on Ret was pretty much only a usable spec in Avenging Wrath. Massive problem being that the helmet version with this trait only dropped from the final boss of Freehold and trying to get this helmet with a decent ilvl on it was probably one of the worst experiences of my life since when you completed a m+ dungeon you'd have a CHANCE to even get a piece of gear then not only that it was of EVERY piece of gear that dropped from that dungeon and BFA added a TON of gear to the game, I think Freehold dropped like 15-20 items or something for Ret in a 4 boss dungeon. Then from the weekly chest it would grab a piece from EVERY dungeon in the game that dropped.
    There was also a massive issue with weapon acquisition in BFA, I remember Horde got the first weapon world quest and people actually rerolled from Alliance to Horde just for this weapon. Early BFA was an absolute joke of an expansion if you cared even a tiny bit about gear hearing all these lies Blizzard was spewing about how Azerite is going to replace tier sets and Legiondaries and the Artifact Weapon trees themselves passives and gold traits and then 99% of the traits in the game were passive traits that had a chance to do X damage or a chance to increase X secondary stat. There was also the GCD change that put everything on a GCD and dear god I'm sure you remember but if you actually played Legion on a character then tried levelling that character through BFA you actively and noticeably got weaker every time you dinged, it was an absolute joke. Then on top of all of this BfA introduced an even more extreme version of ilvl mob scaling in the open world so mobs would scale as you got higher ilvl. Even on fully geared Shadowlands characters BfA mobs aren't that much weaker than Shadowlands mobs despite being 10 levels lower, that's how crazy the BfA ilvl scaling is. So in summary you were lied to about gear, your class was clunky and always on GCD, most classes were doing like 60-70% of their total damage as auto white hits, your character got actively weaker as you leveled up and even if you managed to get gear you never actually felt it because everything still had the same time to kill.

      Only to clueless non-Hunters who thought they were all the same because "hurr ranged weapon". We don't declare that Arms is literally Fury with Colossus Smash because both of those specs have some thematic overlap. So try to refrain from declaring similarly stupid nonsense about Hunters. Survival was significantly different from Marksmanship in both theme and gameplay.
      "Blizzard failed for years to give that spec a genuine identity that felt different from the other Hunter specs."
      See above. There was no failure. That's revisionist history to dishonestly try to make melee Survival look better. Ranged Survival was not only fine, it was a successful spec that appealed to a lot of people and provided a nice alternative to the other Hunter specs. This is why it wasn't being frantically changed all the time like the current melee SV; it kept the same basic identity and gameplay for 4 expansions. That would simply not have been the case if Blizzard was desperately trying to find an identity like morons on the online discussions like to portray it. If you want to see a Hunter spec without a genuine identity, look to the current melee Survival which is a clumsy combination of several different identities because Blizzard has no clue what they're doing with the spec anymore and are largely just playing damage control due to the disasterous initial melee rework.
      "It was only ever popular when numbers put it above the other two specs, anytime that wasn't the case it was barely played. Played more than modern survival probably but still barely played. "
      It was actually routinely a popular spec even when it wasn't the best, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here and say you're just clueless and unaware rather than outright lying. In Siege of Orgrimmar the spec was actually below BM yet still saw more play. But just look to Blackrock Foundry. That was a tier where SV was more significantly behind BM. In the last 2 weeks of that tier, Survival got 7.6k parses to BM's 42.2k. A lot less, for sure, but still more than nothing. Now look to the current tier, Castle Nathria. Survival has about 500 parses for the ENTIRE TIER so far. That's less than BM gets on average per DAY and they do more or less the same damage. Using play rates and representation as an argument against ranged Survival is so hilariously hypocritical and out of touch it's not funny. Actually, it kind of is funny that people can be this delusional.
      P.S. In Highmaul, just before Blackrock Foundry, Survival was literally the most played spec in the entire game by a massive margin. And that wasn't the first time. So you can kindly cut the bullshit about it being "barely played", thank you.
      The only tier where ranged SV was barely played, since it was recognisably ranged Survival with Explosive Shot, that is, was Hellfire Citadel in patch 6.2, and that was primarily because they mysteriously flat out removed a core mechanic that made the spec work, making it struggle to compete with tanks for damage. I wonder why they would do that just a month before announcing it would be replaced with a melee spec... hmmmmmm....
      "Let's not pretend Survival was some amazing spec before the changes, it was always the spec that had no real identity outside of PvP."
      I'm not the one pretending here. You're the one making shit up as you go along to desperately try to make melee Survival look better. Ranged Survival had a great identity as the utilitarian that used exotic munitions and tools to gain an edge in the fight. This was distinct to both BM and MM and meaningfully and sensibly built off the base class. Survival right now nonsensically tries to build an identity by taking AWAY the most core part of the base class. It's the only spec in the entire game that tries to build off a weakness, and as such most people want nothing to do with it because it essentially defeats the entire purpose of being a Hunter.
      Blizzard also can't decide what to do with it so it has 3 different identities competing for prominence in the baseline toolkit; the stock-standard melee Skirmisher like a Warrior (Raptor Strike, Carve), the utilitarian toolkit that would better fit ranged Survival anyway (Wildfire Bomb, Serpent Sting), and the BM Hunter ripoffs (Kill Command, Coordinated Assault). Speaking of which...
      "At least modern Survival tries to be it's own spec, Blizzard just needs to put some genuine time into it."
      Oh, really? Because last I checked they literally rebuilt the spec from the ground up twice and what they arrived on was a spec that leans heavily on the identity of Beast Mastery to the point where it straight up copies BM abilities with some adjustments. They at least bothered to rename Bestial Wrath to Coordinated Assault when they copied it over, unlike Kill Command. Oh, and they straight up stole Spirit Bond and made it the mastery; you know, the iconic part of BM that was there from the literal beginning. I don't recall ranged Survival copying Aimed Shot, Chimera Shot, and Careful Aim over; it had its own toolkit yet the fact that they both used a ranged weapon was enough for you to declare "Old survival was literally Marksman but with Explosive Shot". So are you going to admit to being totally full of shit or what?

    • @Bepples
      @Bepples 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I'm not the one who thinks a spec that sees less parses in a month than another Hunter spec sees in a single day is an improvement. I'm not the one who thinks a spec that rips off half the toolkit from another spec is one that is forging its own identity.
      You're the one that's delusional, and I have no doubt in my mind that you do not and have not played a Hunter and you're in fact talking out your ass.
