Personally i don't even want one, i prefer a vehicle with less road noise, but if you want to live the jeep life with doors off and rock crawling there are only 2 vehicle choices, top end bronco or top end jeep wrangler. its a very niche market like sports cars.

I've had 4 Jeeps. A Golden Eagle (yes, I'm old) and 3 Cherokees. The 4 cylinder was way underpowered - kept that one 3 months. They all had poor gas millage and serious rust issues (Wisconsin winters?). They also kept my mechanic busy with lots of problems. I now own 2 Subarus going on 10 years with only battery, brake and tire replacements. Enough said.

even oil changes were done under warranty.
every time they asked if i wanted to have a job done or some part ordered. and every time what they were going to do or who was going to cover it was printed out as part of the work order, so there was a paper trail of everything, which i had a copy of and they had a copy of.

I'm a GM at a Jeep Ram Dodge store. The reason jeeps aren't selling that much is because the manufacturer increased the cost of building a vehicle. Just 2 years ago, you could get a 60k rubicon gladiator full loaded. Today, it's almost 80k. Because they're saying that if the dealer can get a mark up, then they'll raise the cost. My opinion.

In the first 30 days I had all the issues taken care of under warranty - axle seals, door lock issue, frozen caliper, parking brake issue. Since then it has been super reliable and the only major issue I had was rockers needed replacing due to the "Pentastar tick" at 120K. Even at $2500 that was only four or five car payments. There definitely seem to be "good" and "trouble" Wranglers. I think the key is finding a used one-owner vehicle two or three years old with 20-30K miles on it - usually means the previous owner was happy with it and it's one of the "good" ones. Buick is likely the dullest brand on the US market. They lost any relevance they had about 45 years ago. There is literally no point to their existence outside of China at this point. This about a premium brand is the complete farce, it's bullshit. A Buick is no nicer than a top of the line anything from any family car brand. Hence why it's a failure here.

Another reason, in my opinion, is the way Jeep handles issues. A large corporation I used to work for(initials are UPS) did a study and learned that customer loyalty was earned by properly handling errors as much as not creating them. When the top-of-the-line Jeep SUV goes for $100,000, even the filthy rich think twice about buying one. I have owned three Jeep Grand Cherokees and enjoyed each one. But when the price of a new one reached $50,000 many years ago, I switched to a Honda CRV and later a Mazda CX-5 for one-third the cost of a new Jeep Commander or whatever it is called.

It's simple, a basic Wrangler Sport shouldn't cost more than $20K brand new, not upwards of $35K. Pretty much the only Wranglers I can afford are 2015s and earlier and most of them have more than 100K miles on them. Jeeps(and all vehicles in general) have mostly been priced out of affordability for the average consumer.

  • @josht717

Jeep's offerings were already wildly overpriced, and they are increasing pricing yet again?? It's no surprise that they aren't selling well. They are feeling emboldened by the 4xe Wrangler doing so well because of federal incentives and low lease costs the past 2 years, and they haven't had to deal with real competition because of Ford's manufacturing delays on the Bronco. I have a $59k MSPR 4xe that I leased for $460/mo with $0 down. If I were to finance it over 6 years in the same $0 down scenario it would cost me $900/mo. There's just no way that a Wrangler is worth that, and Jeep needs a reality check on their pricing for such a bare-bones vehicle.

I bought a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 certified used; somebody backed into it this was during the backlog of automobile parts and body shops being 6 to 8 months or more out so I traded it in on the 2020 WK2 Trailhawk. Three months after I got it one of the key fobs stopped functioning turned out to be a faulty RFID chip which means that you cannot use that key to enter the vehicle without setting off the alarm and activating the engine immobilizer. Luckily I did have a second key fob for the vehicle and I’ve been using that for seven months while I fight with the dealer that sold me the vehicle and Jeep corporate to get a new key fob. I am not the only one that has had these types of minor annoyances from Jeep dealers this is why I’m looking at buying a vintage 4x4 truck rather than keep the Jeep. For reference I am a full-time nomad overlander and content producer living in my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I remember the first time I took a new Wrangler for a test drive back several years ago because I got a itch to buy one, I liked the looks of them, but soon after leaving the dealer lot the desire to buy one quickly went away, it was noisy, slow, top heavy with vague steering and felt like it would tip over in a turn or if I had to swerve quickly to avoid a accident, it actually felt unsafe to be on a highway ,worse of all it was noisy all the noise from the engine and transmission echoed right thru the floor ,it was a windy day and the canvas top added more noise as the wind made the roof move about,
I couldn't wait to take it back to the dealer lot , When I got out and looked at the window invoice , I thought how is this thing worth that price?
then I looked at a few used ones at the same lot that were only a few years old and all of them were developing rust on the frames and in places where I wouldn't think rust should be on a vehicle only a few years old, even the door hinges had rust starting! I walked away thinking what a pile of junk !

Please let me know when you read these comments. I really appreciate all the work that you do. I love the channel you do a great job. One quick comment. On a personal note I do not buy JEEP as much as I’d like the 392 because of the reliability and dependability factor bottom line. It’s a Chrysler and in my opinion the quality control is absolutely horrible. I’m not crazy about the fit and finish the looks of the vehicle are OK, I like the grand Wagoneer but it’s way over priced. It should be under $100,000 the engine and the transmission is not reliable from what I’ve seen friends that purchased them are going through. Again great channel. Hope to hear from you soon. Peace.

May 2022 purchased new 2022 Rubicon 4XE. Paid the dealer markup which for the comparative jeep was still $10,000 less than a Rubicon 2021 model with 10,000 miles on it. I've been looking at renegades because they're cute, affordable, practical for my needs, and the awd is surprisingly decent. I was waiting for the 2023 remodel but I've been seeing basic trim levels listed around 38k base msrp, which is like 5k over their previous fully loaded top trim (limited or trailhawk usually maxed out at around 33k ish). For 38k I could find a solid used wrangler. Or I could save the 5k and get a Bronco Sport. The dealerships I've visited also don't seem very desperate to get rid of their inventory. Saw a renegade sit on their lot since early 2022 and they actually increased it's price a few times only to lower it back to the starting price and claiming the price had been 'reduced'.

Jeep wranglers are unique vehicles. Traditionally, Jeep wranglers hold their value better than any other production vehicle. But Jeep has priced them out of the affordability range for a large segment of the population.
I recently bought a Jeep Wrangler. I hadn’t bought a used vehicle in the last 30 years, and I could afford a new Wrangler, but I was looking for a Wrangler basically as a toy to have fun with. A $50,00+ toy made no sense. I shopped used Jeeps for a couple of months until I found what I wanted.
I found a JK in like new showroom condition. I had to spend more than the book value to get it, but I still saved $20,000+ by buying a used Jeep.
On another negative problem for Jeep. A Jeep dealer is about a mile from my house. Their Service Dept is so inept that it almost defies belief. The dealer requires the customer to leave their vehicle until they order and receive the part, then they schedule it to be repaired, then the customer is called and told they can pick it up.
My son had a JL. The 4 wheel drive developed a bad switch. The vehicle was drivable but the service dept required him to leave it with them until the part arrived. It took 12 weeks for the part to arrive. My son had a back up vehicle but what I’d he didn’t?
My son was so angry with the dealer he sold his Jeep when he got it back.
The next closest Jeep dealer is 25 miles away. They will order the parts necessary and contact the customer when it arrives. Then they will schedule the maintenance. My Jeep is out of warranty, so I can take it to any auto shop and get it repaired if I have an issue.
It seems if the price of a new Jeep doesn’t run customers away the service Dept will.

      1. They are not always holding their value best. Toyota has always been a competitor. The reliability is the true support point for high resale value. The fun to drive and fun to own will be varying along with market makes it an unstable investment, if you want to talk about that.
      2. You are not saving $20k+ for buying used. You are simply being ripped off by dealership that take advantage of your willingness to pay over book value. That's it. Period.
      3. Jeep dealerships are the most garbage dealerships of all brands. They all scam money, but jeep is the only dealership that scam your money and do nothing making you angry.

    • @larrys9879
      @larrys9879 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ericsimons8560 The only parts of your posts that I disagree with is that the popularity of a vehicle, more than its reliability, is the main factor that determines its retail value. Popularity equals shortage of supply and scarcity of a product always increases its value.
Second, in order to be ripped off the buyer has to be ignorant of the products value. The value of a product is based on many factors. Ten Jeeps with the same trim options, engines, & same model year will vary in price based on the overall condition of the vehicle, mileage, amount of, or lack of, modifications and customization of each vehicle. Is the vehicle a secondary vehicle or primary daily driver, does it exhibit evidence of significant off roading, was it ever wrecked or damaged, is the paint and interior in showroom condition or does it exhibit lack of care and maintenance?
The Jeep I bought was in showroom new condition inside and out, it had a full maintenance record, the previous owner changed the oil and filter every 4,000 miles like clockwork just as the owners Manuel recommends. It’s mileage indicated it was a secondary vehicle, the clear coat paint was flawless indicating it was garaged when not in use. It looked and ran like it just came off the showroom floor.
The seller was asking $5,000 over the black book suggested retail price for a Jeep in excellent condition and the seller wasn’t willing to negotiate the price. If it was my Jeep and I was selling it I’d ask more than that. To be ripped off I’d have to be unaware of all that I’ve noted. It was virtually a one of a kind used Jeep and I recognized its value due to its unique condition.
As I noted, I’m retired so it’s just a toy for me to have fun with it. I would have paid up to $8,000 over its black book value, due to its unique showroom condition, so I wrote him a check on the spot. I’ve had it for six months now with no regrets or second thoughts. I’m confident I could sell it now for at least what I paid for it but I have no intention of doing that.
I’ll keep it until I pass away and then I’ll leave it to my grandson, who is also my mechanic, that did all the customizing I wanted done on it. The value of any product is what a buyer is willing to pay for it. I didn’t buy my Jeep for an investment, I bought it to have fun with it and customize it the way I wanted it.
One last thought. This is my third Jeep, and second Wrangler, that I’ve owned, and I’ve never had a major problem with any of them. Minor stuff yes, but nothing major. According to recent information, Ford is having significant major quality control issues and their new Bronco is having some very serious problems especially engine issues. According to recent published data Ford is losing $2 Billion a year in warranty claims. This is so serious Ford’s survival has become a real issue.

At home we have a 2020 jeep cherokee with 31k miles on it. A month ago the engine light came on on the dashboard, we went to a scanner and it gave an error P018C... he took the dealer after waiting for an appointment for almost 15 days, it was a thermal protector that should protect a gas emission sensor , which was not installed at the factory, therefore the sensor was fused. Fortunately, that car at home has little use, since the dealer informed us that if the engine had overheated, the car could have caught fire.
The fact is that we are already planning to change brand.

From my perspective there are a number of issues that Jeep is facing that is affecting their sales. Price, price, price. Jeep prices particularly on Wranglers have gone insane over the last 15-20 years. And by proxy so has the rest of Jeep’s lineup. The next issue is Jeep has built a reputation for off road performance, the Wrangler, Gladiator, and the higher trim versions of most other models still have great off-road capabilities, but when you look at the majority of Jeeps models and trims, they fall short, the Cherokee name congers visions of lifted XJs withe knobby tires tackling insane off-road terrain, but today’s Cherokee is not that and because of its design, never could be that, and the Compass and Renegade are even more useless. Even the legendary Grand Cherokee is not the vehicle it used to be, now sporting all wheel drive instead of the 4 wheel drive version of it’s past. The infusion of Fiat-Alfa DNA into the Jeep lineup has further watered down the lower half of Jeeps lineup, and well lets not sugarcoat it, the Compass and it’s twin the Patriot have always been absolutely terrible vehicles and never should have worn the Jeep name.

I've had a 2017 Wrangler for the last 5+ years, and outside of normal things wearing out at the 5 year mark (brake pads/rotors, tires, battery), it's been as reliable as every other vehicle I've owned. That said, I have looked at an upgrade after seeing the discounts at nearby dealers - and until recently, didn't realize how outrageous the markups are on my target vehicles (Wrangler and Gladiator). I've seen leftover (but still new) 2022s on dealer lots for $10-12k below MSRP, and even found one 2022 Gladiator Rubicon that was discounted nearly $16k. If I do purchase, it'll be on one of those 2022s as the deals are there to be had.
