And to ad to that 116 special defense is the highest number in the stat among them, and the second highest defensive stat behind only chestnaughts defense. Primarina is one of if not the most cracked starter in terms of raw stats
They did my owl boi dirty, what's the point of having both attack and special attack stats high if it's speed wasn't on par with it? If I could rework him I would.
It's a shame too; I love the owl's design and it being inspired by the stilt owl (an extinct species that was native to Hawaii) and its signature move Spirit shackle is quite good. But DAMN do its lopsided stats let it down hard.
If hearing that Delphox was somewhat decent competitively made my day, hearing that Primarina (my fav. water starter) made it into OU has made my entire week, maybe even my whole month. Most of my favorite Pokemon aren't too good competitively, so I relish any time that I hear one of them is.

In doubles Perish Song is a scary move if you pair Liquid Voice Primarina with a Water Absorb mon that can threat with offensive pressure, Water Absorb makes them immune to Perish Song if is Water Type. (Ogrepon Wellspring Mask)

I must inform you that there were quite a few important events that were not covered here. In gen 7 2018 Primarina did have a notable placement in making it all the way to top 8 of Japan Nationals on Ichigi Masayoshi's team with perish song. Then in gen 8 Primarina saw one other notable usage in the only series 13 irl regional in Taiwan where mythicals were legal. On that team not only was it Alola Pokemon with the restricteds Lunala and Necrozma but it managed to get all the way to top 8 thanks to the player Liu Jian-ting.
"Generation Seven starting duo" so either somone forgot about the existence of Decidueye, or Incineroar has trancended so high that it cannot be counted as a starter anymore.

It does multiple things well, and 1 thing unbelievably well, and that one thing, supporting the team, it can do in a hundred ways, not just with the standard moveset. Need a Kyogre answer, slap on a berry, live a water spout, and snarl. Bad MU against Snorlax, give it snatch and steal its berry before it can belly drum. Xerneas giving you problems, roar. Calyrex Ice tearing up your team with clear amulet, lmao, take this will o wisp. Amoongus putting your team to sleep, run safety goggles and taunt. It has a moveset for everything, it can run dozens of items incredibly well, and it has evolved in a ton of innovative ways throughout the generation.
It amazes me that bkc can both make several hour long video essays on pokemon on his own channel while also being the writer for false swipe gaming, man is a PROFESSIONAL yapper when it comes to Pokemon.

Ah, the queen of the water starters, Primarina! I love this design so much, it’s one I can confidently say is beautiful. On top of that, it’s a surprise menace in battle with a SpAttack stat 1 point higher than Hydreigon and a god-tier typing in Water/Fairy
Back in the early days of S&S, I used a -atk, 0 atk ivs Primarina with Aqua Jet to activate Coalossal ability and weakness policy. That way I had two strong special attackers on the field quickly
So what I might suggest, although I am not a patreon member, is that instead of exclusives you instead have heavy delays on the release of what would be exclusives to the youtube channel. Making subscribing to the patreon more of a “win more” instead of “punishing” those who don’t have the disposable income.

The Incineroar video is not going to be an hour long. In singles it’s been low tier its whole life (though I remember it being great in SM NU). While it is brilliant in VGC, unlike Landorus-T it’s basically always done the same thing - support. Likely they’ll do what they did with Volcarona - list the top 3 placings at regionals and higher, with a google doc in the description with the other placements.
Primarina helped me through the BB Champion Kieran battle. Tera Water + Hyper Voice + Liquid Voice hidden ability along with Ogerpon's Helping Hand made Primarina a beast at Double Battles in Indigo Disk. Primarina was the reason I had to save up so much BP to upgrade the Coastal Biome just to get Popplio.
We have gotten so old that we have reached the stage of this channel where the Pokémon being reviewed are older than this series (both Gen 7 and the first Competitive History Analysis were released on November 18, 2016)
This video serves as a reminder as to why I love this channel so much getting to hear about stuff like rest snore being viable and the psychic noise interaction is super cool
Psychic Noise may just be the first time I've ever considered Liquid Voice useful. Because while Water-type Hyper Voice is cool, the ability doesn't actually boost damage like say, Aerilate or Pixilate. Sound moves only become stronger because of STAB. Now as for VGC, it's probably more useful to give Primarina a spread STAB move, but I've never actually competed in VGC, so I can't say for sure.
VGC is a place where Fairy-types always use Dazzling Gleam in place of Moonblast (or alongside in the case of Flutter Mane), so the spread move is definitely a selling point. But even in singles, sound moves have the additional advantage of ignoring substitutes, so there's some potential utility there.

When Gen 7 starters were first shown, I was always team Popplio. Loved the design. Loved its positive aesthetic. Then I saw Primarina and I thought it looked so strong. I kept saying “this is gonna be the best of the 3 alola starters, just you wait.” Turns out I was right. Love it in ladder play. Love it in draft league. Just an amazing Pokémon that has aged so well. In an era where mons are getting nerfed left and right, Primarina bucks the trend. Truly one of the best Pokémon to come out of Gen 7 and one of my favorites to use. Hell, I used it in both Sun AND Ultra Sun I enjoyed it so much. Cannot overstate how much fun I have using Primarina.
I've been waiting for this one. I've been a Water starter enthusiast ever since Gen 3 and Primarina is my second favorite one behind Empoleon. Its bulk, typing, offensive presence, combined with it being able to learn Encore had me loving it ever since it first came out. I was trying to find a use for it being able to use Encore ever since Gen 7 was released.
Just to give u an idea before primarina,walking wake was considered broken ,the only check it had was empoleon which just doesnt work in an ogerpon meta. then primarina showed up and ppl literaly dropped wake from most sun teams bcz it was so brutally walled.
I would like it to be known that one player in vgc 2024 (that wasn’t mentioned) showed how good Primarina is. In the seniors division Benjamin Polster won EUIC with it!
I love Primarina so much. As soon as I saw the leaks years ago, I knew it would be on my team. I've used it on almost every sun and moon playthrough. Knowing it's thriving in OU right now makes me so happy.
Unfortunate that this vid was released before the new VGC Reg H got started because with no Legends and Paradox's Primarina is looking to be a solid mon in the new format.
Primarina might end up doing much better in VGC regulation H. A lot of its competition is now banned (Flutter Mane, Ogerpon-Wellspring, Urshifu-Rapid, the restricted mons, etc)
the issue with decidueye his bulk and speed is just a bit too low for what it wants to do, hes tryna be a slow mixed tank but so many other mons do that role better
I still remember when everyone threw such vitriolic hate at Popplio for its design. It was cathartic to watch those prissy fuckwits eat their words en masse when Popplio's final evolution ended up being legitimately good. Pokémon don't win by looking pretty, they win by reducing the opposing HP bars to 0. Appearance is irrelevant.
The Alola region certainly had a creative trio for their starter set: Decidueye the grass/ghost starter who is considered a guardian spirit that offers protection and guidance to those in need in Hawaiian culture, Incineroar the fire/dark starter who is the fierce and villainous heel who will challenge all worthy opponents in combat, and Primarina the water/fairy starter who is one who will serenade their audience with their musical talents and displaying top notch grace/elegance.
My favorite Pokemon from the minute that leak hit the net. It's everything I look for in a Pokemon, from it's appearance to the way it plays. Love it~!
waiting for the counterparts to complete: - Carracosta - Seviper - other gen 5 monkeys - Gothitelle - incineroar - Tornadus - Aromatisse And I guess we could finish up Gen 2 with Sunflora, Magcargo (Slugma Male Grindset paying off when?) and Corsola. I think those are the only gen 2 Pokemon left to wrap it up.
I remember when Sun and Moon starters were announced everyone and their mom hated Popplio. It was only when Primarina was leaked and then announced everyone loved it.

Literally my first Pokémon. I didn't look into the final evolution, so primarina took me by suprise, a pleasant one at that. Hits like a truck, too. Which is awesome.
The power creep has got insane. We need a revision of all the Pokémon with stats, abilities, move pool etc. I think starter Pokémon are unique much like eevee evolutions and they should all have 550 base stats instead of 525-534. The extra stats would help. In game and competitively speaking.

Just to give u an idea before primarina,walking wake was considered broken ,the only check it had was empoleon which just doesnt work in an ogerpon meta. then primarina showed up and ppl literaly dropped wake from most sun teams bcz it was so brutally walled.

I love Primarina so much. As soon as I saw the leaks years ago, I knew it would be on my team. I've used it on almost every sun and moon playthrough. Knowing it's thriving in OU right now makes me so happy.
Unfortunate that this vid was released before the new VGC Reg H got started because with no Legends and Paradox's Primarina is looking to be a solid mon in the new format.

Primarina might end up doing much better in VGC regulation H. A lot of its competition is now banned (Flutter Mane, Ogerpon-Wellspring, Urshifu-Rapid, the restricted mons, etc)
There’s just Decidueye left to join the club of high tier metagame defining stars. I guess he at least has the anime going for it.
the issue with decidueye his bulk and speed is just a bit too low for what it wants to do, hes tryna be a slow mixed tank but so many other mons do that role better
I still remember when everyone threw such vitriolic hate at Popplio for its design. It was cathartic to watch those prissy fuckwits eat their words en masse when Popplio's final evolution ended up being legitimately good. Pokémon don't win by looking pretty, they win by reducing the opposing HP bars to 0. Appearance is irrelevant.
The Alola region certainly had a creative trio for their starter set: Decidueye the grass/ghost starter who is considered a guardian spirit that offers protection and guidance to those in need in Hawaiian culture, Incineroar the fire/dark starter who is the fierce and villainous heel who will challenge all worthy opponents in combat, and Primarina the water/fairy starter who is one who will serenade their audience with their musical talents and displaying top notch grace/elegance.
Incineroar was my first pokemon (Ultra Sun was my first pokemon game), BUT, Primarina is underrated AF and would definitely be my next option

I feel like primarina might be an underrated ursaluna counter. Sparkling aria removes burn which turns off guts in turn halving its damage.

Literally my first Pokémon. I didn't look into the final evolution, so primarina took me by suprise, a pleasant one at that. Hits like a truck, too. Which is awesome.
The power creep has got insane. We need a revision of all the Pokémon with stats, abilities, move pool etc. I think starter Pokémon are unique much like eevee evolutions and they should all have 550 base stats instead of 525-534. The extra stats would help. In game and competitively speaking.
