Fire/Poison is a novel combo. Despite the 4x weakness to Ground, it's one of the only three type combos to quad resist Fairy. Plus, Fire typically can deal with Steel types, which are immune to Poison. You might need to instantly wipe out an opposing Steel type instead of wearing it down with Toxic Corrosion.
For those interested in National Dex Salazzle currently resides in NDPU, also seeing occasional useage is NDNU, it excels in NDPU using all 3 of Choice Scarf, Nasty Plot and Substitute Protect. In NDNU the Scarf Set is not used but both Nasty Plot and the so called "Stallazzle" see use.
I mean, what else can I say about Salazzle? It’s a great Pokémon. Slick design with a great color combo (base or shiny), cool as hell typing in Fire/Poison, and the ability to poison whatever it wants. Salazzle is simply him (or her in this case)
I had a desert grassland whip-tail lizard and I named her Riley. Eventually she did pass, but I named my first Salazzle after her (given my Riley’s species can only be female). She’s in a nest ball for comfort, in Scarlet with her Alola champion ribbon, and Tera Grass to match her hidden power. Final note is I wish corrosion made it to where I could sludge wave those darn steel types, now she’s Oblivious setting up nasty plots destroying everything 😈
GameFreak: "WE ARE MAKING A POISON TYPE THAT CAN POISON ANYTHING!" Players: "Is it actually built to do that, or did you design a glass cannon with an incongruous ability?"
Corrosion is one of those abilities that i wished got buffed. Making poison super effective to steel types would have been really good. Also making Acid, Acid spray super effective against steel types would be a good buff. Also making Sludge/bomb super effective to water types would be interesting too.
Why are people saying the male would have more bulk. Most mons and most actual animals, the male is stronger, the female has more endurance, see humans or see nido line
@@umwha And thinks of the various mons that can no longer switch into Salazzle if it could hit say... a Steel/Fairy type or a Steel/Grass type super effectively with Sludge Wave... @@roanvanhouten2146 Maybe, but we gotta know!!! We can't just have Zangoose have all the stardom, why cover only the one? Even if Seviper was bad, a video on him would be awesome
Back when generation seven launched, I committed to not looking up anything during my first playthrough. I loved the look of Salandit, caught one, trained it. Trained it some more. Kept training it.. got to level 55.. .. it was a male.
In my first playthrough of Ultra Moon, I used a Salazzle. Suffice it to say it barely got any use at all. Which made me sad cause it's a really cool mon.
I think GameFreak made the right call. Corrosion would be far more obnoxious on a defensive Pokémon that has many chances to spam immunity-free Toxics. And a Pokemon with a great Special Attack stat getting guaranteed critical hits would also be annoying.
I love the consistenticy of Salazle getting the jump on the 3 115 base speed pokemon that keep togheter in UU. Even if she is never there by usage she is always stalking those 3 from the shadows haha.
I remember doing something like "Fast Stall." with her. I went full HP and Speed EVs, and the moveset was: Flamethrower, Encore, Toxic, Protect. It was working extremely well.
Salazzle being able to poison both steel and poison type Pokémon certainly was a nice ability as no other Pokémon can accomplish that feat. With a dual type set that gives Salazzle the advantage over grass, poison, steel, fairy, ice and bug plus learning dragon pulse gives the toxic fire lizard a super effective move against the nearly unstoppable dragon type Pokémon.
My Salazzle in Sun and Moon wasn't exactly the star of the team, but she put in work. Corrosion didn't get much use because I'd just use Flamethrower on any steel type that came in anyway. Let's see how Competitive does it.

If they decide to rework Corrosion in Gen 10, I would suggest they buff it so that whoever has the ability can deal super-effective to Steel and Poison type Pokemon with poison type attacks (On top of being able to Poison/Toxic Steel and Poison type Pokemon). I also suggest then maybe giving it to a few other poison type Pokemon that need buffs like Kantonian Muk, Garbodor, and Skuntank.
She'd likely appreciate some Ground coverage (as weird as that may sound) outside of Hidden Power/Tera Blast to really stick it to those to resist both her STABs & utility that include Knock Off with a buffed Corrosion or a Poison equivalent of Foresight/Miracle Eye. This would likely turn her even better in the lower tiers
