The Hog Rider is a fast ground troop with medium hit points, low damage, and the ability to jump over enemy Walls. He is unlocked at level 2 Dark Barracks. The Hog Rider (person) is a bare-chested black man holding a hammer. He has a Mohawk, wears a brown leather loincloth, a red belt, and a pair of leather sandals, as well as two large golden wristbands and a gold earring. His ride is a large hog, about half his height. It has a brown leather bridle looped around its tusks, which in turn is held by the Hog Rider. Hog Riders prioritize defensive structures above all other targets, and will bypass all other types of enemy buildings and troops while any defenses remain on the battlefield. This is true even if they are under attack by enemy Clan Castle troops, heroes or Skeleton Trap skeletons. Note that like all troops that prioritize defenses, Hog Riders do not consider the Clan Castle to be a defense regardless of whether or not it contains enemy troops, but do consider the defending Grand Warden and the activated Town Hall weapon (if any) to be defensive buildings. Once all defenses are destroyed, Hog Riders become like any other troop with no preferred target; they will attack the nearest building to them regardless of type, and will turn and attack enemy units if they become aware of any nearby and can fight back against them. However, they will not switch targets to enemy units until their previous target was destroyed.
The Hog Rider card is unlocked from the Spell Valley (Arena 5). He is a quick building-targeting, melee troop with moderately high hitpoints and damage. He appears just like his Clash of Clans counterpart; a man with brown eyebrows, a beard, a mohawk, and a golden body piercing in his left ear who is riding a hog. A Hog Rider card costs 4 Elixir to deploy. Strategy His fast move speed can boost forward mini tanks like an Ice Golem in a push. At the same time, he can also function as a tank for lower hitpoint troops such as Goblins as he still has a fair amount of health. Most cheap swarms complement the Hog Rider well, as they are nearly as fast as him and usually force more than one card out of the opponent's hand. The Hog Rider struggles with swarms, as they can damage him down and defeat him quickly while obstructing his path. Barbarians in particular can fully counter him without very strict timing on the defender's part, though be wary of spells. A Hunter can kill the Hog Rider in 2 hits if placed right on top of it. However, if you place something in front of the Hog Rider, the Hunter's splash will damage the Hog Rider and hit the card in front of it more. The Hog Rider in conjunction with the Freeze can surprise the opponent and allow the Hog Rider to deal much more damage than anticipated, especially if the opponent's go-to counter is a swarm, or swarms are their only effective counter to him. Skeletons and Bats will immediately be defeated by the spell, while Spear Goblins, Goblins, and Minions will be at low enough health to be defeated by a follow up Zap or Giant Snowball. However, this strategy isn't very effective against buildings as the Hog Rider will take a while to destroy the building, giving the opponent ample time to articulate another counter. Against non-swarm troops, it can deal a lot of damage during the freeze time, but this can allow the opponent to set up a massive counterpush. For this reason, players should either only go for a Hog Rider + Freeze when they have other units backing it up from a counterattack, or if the match is about to end and they need to deal as much damage as possible. It is not a good idea to send in a Hog Rider simply to destroy a building, especially if it is the only building targeting unit available, as defeating Crown Towers becomes substantially more difficult. Spells or simply waiting out the lifetime of the building are more effective. The exception to this is an Elixir Collector placed in front of the King's Tower. If a Hog Rider placed at the bridge, he can destroy the Collector for a positive Elixir trade, though the damage from both Princess Towers will usually mean he does not survive to deal any damage to them. However, if the opponent sends in defending troops, it can be an opportunity to gain spell damage value. In a deck with several low-cost cards, it might be worth it to simply send the Hog Rider against one building. These decks shuffle their card rotation quick enough, that they will arrive to their next Hog Rider before the next building arrives in the opponent's card rotation. Long-ranged troops like Musketeer and Flying Machine can snipe those buildings, preserving some of the Hog Rider's health, possibly allowing it to get some Tower damage. When there are buildings placed in the middle to counter the Hog Rider, understanding the placement of the Hog Rider and the type of building placed can help the Hog Rider to bypass certain buildings. Passive buildings such as spawners and Elixir Collector have a larger hitbox than defensive buildings; which means that if a passive building was placed 3 tiles away from the river in the middle of the opponent's side, then it is impossible for the Hog Rider to bypass that placement as the Hog Rider will get pulled to that building. Defensive buildings have a smaller hitbox than a passive building, which means if that if a defensive building was placed three tiles away from the river in the middle of the opponent's side, a Hog Rider placed at the very left or right side of the Arena may be able to bypass it due to its smaller hitbox

This was an amazing video to watch. I watched Ironmon when it first came to be and the reason the islands got banned was that the creator was informed during a run that went super south that they could go to the islands and they had not known this. After seeing how much advantage the islands gave, they felt it was too much for the challenge run.
I remember that last Lantern also have Perish song, and he used healing item on that turn facing it. It was so lucky, if that Lantern have used Perish song, he would only has 3 turn left to shut down Magnetric which would have killed the run at the last moment.
Couple of clarifications for anyone wondering: - Step-based items actually appear a few places in the overworld in addition to Mt. Moon. The QOL patch gets rid of them but, at the request of the challenge creator, the ones in Mt. Moon are kept because there's actually risk involved in getting them to spawn - The "second Pokemon is the strongest" isn't exactly true. Trainers will usually send out a mon with a super-effective move if they have one, which is why the second mon in a fight is often the most dangerous - For anyone confused why he went to Lavender Tower right away after Rock Tunnel, the rules require you to go there and fight the Rival. This is also an exception to the "enter each dungeon once" rule.
I missed the one entry per dungeon rule. I was wondering why Silph Co was as problematic as it was if he could just go heal at the center. That rule explains why he couldn't.
@@redgyrados2000 the issue with that is the rules say they’re non negotiable so the rules having changed also disqualifies it from being a kaizo ironmon unless that was always the rule based on the wording they can’t change these rules so if herbs started off as not fine they’re still not fine and the game creators by trying to negotiate their non negotiable rules actually just failed themselves based on the wording of kaizo ironmon rules only the original rules count and literally everything else even changes made by the owner are against the rules

Ironic that despite Aerial Ace and- moreso than that- Blast Burn were the two moves that were realitively weak and memed on for just that in the run, there was at least one notable time both came in clutch IE the Shedninja popping up. Especially Blast Burn for the last attack to land you the win. GGs all around to you, 10/10 never touching this ruleset ever and going through this hard of a challange.
@@runeheal And move the battle along how? Using the limited pp he has of moves? Using his limited amount of items? Even if it would have gone down to chip, taking turns that would waste resources could have killed the run too.
@@rubye4022 I don't get this response. If he had something better than Aerial Ace, he could have just attacked. Even if he didn't hit, Shedinja would have died. The only variable is that it can attack back, but Shedinja doesn't have a huge amount of base stats either, so there is not much to fear (I would assume that the HP stat wouldn't be changed as they didn't change its ability either).
@@Modie Well I don't have the exact timestamp on me, but I believe he said the only difference Shedninja has compared to other Pokémon was just the fact it still has Wonder Guard. Wonder Guard only lets it only be hit by super effective moves, it has nothing to do with the HP stat of the user, thus I'm sure it's total HP- as well as it's other stats- was randomized too such as every other 'mon. My entire point is if it's HP was randomized, which it likely was, chip more than likely is not be enough to take it out and he'd have to sit there wasting PP on moves that would guarantee to miss, or use the limited items he has, of which, both would be more useful on other Pokémon later in the run given the rules.
I was watching him stream this about a month ago, so many attempts and seeing him put it on hold to stream other stuff, didn’t think he’d beat it. Props smant, this is impressive 👏🔥
I just realised that this video has subtitles made by a person - thank you! I cannot explain how frustrating it is to watch pokémon videos when the automatic subs don't know what any of them are!
The "favorite" mechanic lets you disregard the pre-decided starter if one of the other two is a favorite. It should be mentioned that Small Ant picked really honest and truly fun favorites for this run. This attempt number would be way lower if he optimized his play there, but chose not to. I thought this deserved a mention.
So if the choice is between Delibird and Magneton, I can just take Magneton? He's a personal fav bc as a kid, I had a Lt. Surge Starter Deck for the TCG, and only one Magneton in the entire pack. He was my strongest card!
I remember this run from stream. It was so late for me that I'd dozed off midway through, woke up in the final fight, immediately awake and hyped to see Della get this far, going back to sleep right after, feeling a little giddy cuz I was among those immediately attached when smant said "don't get attached before Brock" XD
The run itself or how many attempts? cuz it says how many attempts in the vid itself. The total run tho... can't have been more than 5 hours, idk there should be a timer on screen anyway @@possomt6211
To be clear, Smant getting the moves and heals he needed is not why hes stupidly lucky, thats just why were actually seeing this run. What makes him lucky is getting a run like this within 2000 attempts.
Forgot you won specifically with Skarmory, congrats! I'm on a wild run with a lucky Skarmory of my own - Flash Fire; Dragon Dance + Drill Peck; bulky but mediocre attack stat at best. Wish me luck!

Thank you, Smant. Skarmory and Absol have been my top two favorite pokemon since ruby and sapphire came out. Nice to see someone use the metal birb even if it's a meme run.
It's hard to emphasize how hard a run is while showing only the winning attempt, but I think this did a spectacular job showing how difficult it truly is
I think aplharad said it best. Its hard in the same way fliping a coin 100 tomea and getting head is hard. So much of the challenge is dependent on good rng. The vast majority of runs died early and boils down to " should have been luckier"
I see your perspective, but If skill was the only limiting factor it could never be "hard" (or unlikely to succeed) enough, you'd have tons of people who could complete it every time. If you want to make it "harder" than that you have to go add rng. And it is limited a lot by skill as well, you have to be resourceful and know the game really well, much due to the rng. Even if the stars happen to align enough for a technically possible run you'll have to be extremely good to have a chance.
Having watched these stream for weeks, this video was so much fun to watch. Excellent job editing, great effects, great narration. Just an incredible video! Well done Smant!
7:00 What? This rule seems like one of the sillier ones to me. It seems like it just limits fun and playability rather than limiting an abusable mechanic. Especially because it's already really hard to avoid trainers anyway. I feel like if you added a feature where all the trainers just do that spinning thing at a slow rate then you could eliminate this rule and make the game a lot more free form. Gotta say, watching these challenges that SmallAnt does kinda makes me want to get back into Pokemon slightly. Seeing the Skarmory with basicly perfect coverage was pretty cool : D

Because everything is dangerous if I can't one shot it 😃🥲, going through victory road was fun. Until a kadabra 20 levels lower than me out sped me, and brought me from 221 health down to 27 with a crit psychic and I almost cried
cuz of you, I started doing this challenge, first regular Ironmon (149 attempts), then ultimate ironmon (187 attempts) and i just completed Kaizo ironmon in 43 attempts with Gardevoir
The fact that he made 1786 attempts and only reached the Elite Four, the stage normally available for toddlers to reach, 5 times, really shows how grueling this challenge was
This legit gives me ptsd , i completed this challange in 2022 in about 200 something attempts finally using a Donphan and im never doing this again. Watching this video was a pain for me.
Isn't one of the rules to not use ANY hold items EXCEPT berries? Yet at 31:33 SmallAnt uses White Herb which is not a berry. Doesn't that invalidate the run?
Wow what a “challenge” ts is like a gambler calling the slot machine hard. Just because it took you 1700 attempts doesnt mean it is objectively hard. You could get this luck on the first attempt. - Step-based items actually appear a few places in the overworld in addition to Mt. Moon. The QOL patch gets rid of them but, at the request of the challenge creator, the ones in Mt. Moon are kept because there's actually risk involved in getting them to spawn
- The "second Pokemon is the strongest" isn't exactly true. Trainers will usually send out a mon with a super-effective move if they have one, which is why the second mon in a fight is often the most dangerous
- For anyone confused why he went to Lavender Tower right away after Rock Tunnel, the rules require you to go there and fight the Rival. This is also an exception to the "enter each dungeon once" rule.
Why'd he use white herb? I thought only berries were allowed.
@@Anonymice Rules were changed a while back to allow any consumable items so herbs are fine
@@hihyrules I mean, the original creator of the challenge is the one who changed the rules to allow herbs. I think an official rule update like that is fine

Ironic that despite Aerial Ace and- moreso than that- Blast Burn were the two moves that were realitively weak and memed on for just that in the run, there was at least one notable time both came in clutch IE the Shedninja popping up. Especially Blast Burn for the last attack to land you the win. GGs all around to you, 10/10 never touching this ruleset ever and going through this hard of a challange.
idk man he has permanent sand shedinja is a non issue
@@runeheal
And move the battle along how? Using the limited pp he has of moves? Using his limited amount of items? Even if it would have gone down to chip, taking turns that would waste resources could have killed the run too.
@@rubye4022
I don't get this response.
@@Modie
Well I don't have the exact timestamp on me, but I believe he said the only difference Shedninja has compared to other Pokémon was just the fact it still has Wonder Guard.
@@rubye4022
I am sorry, but what is the point of keeping Wonderguard if you don't keep the 1 HP? That's the whole gimmick after all.

What makes him lucky is getting a run like this within 2000 attempts.
Everyone talking about Delibird but bro, it makes me so happy that the bulk of the game you got through with my favorite pokemon Skarmory.

"YOU HAVE ANOTHER FULL RESTORE 🤯🤨 SINCE WHEN 😟😔🤔" *whispers* "paralyze please 🥺" "Withdrew? 😦😮😦, VOLT ABSORB YOU'RE A GENIUS 🫨🤓"
14:07 are we just going to ignore the deoxys chilling out in the open

Wow what a “challenge” ts is like a gambler calling the slot machine hard. Just because it took you 1700 attempts doesnt mean it is objectively hard. You could get this luck on the first attempt. I like ur videos but calling this challenge the “hardest ever” is just wrong. Play a hardcore nuzlocke on emerald kaizo like pokemon challenges
