wood turning a Holly log stitch up

I'm turning a holly log into an ice cream parlour glass. I know it's got a split in it, so there will be a stitch up. What I didn't know is the split was a wide rotten section about 2" wide....It all turned out ok because the stitch up looked almost musical like a harp.
