    UPDATE: You can actually power this camera using a cable. I posted a new video showing the solution here - th-cam.com/video/pEkCprjEWN8/w-d-xo.html

    I took all things into consideration before deciding to buy it. I'm glad I did. Yes a removable battery would be nice. I mainly shoot in full HD instead of 4K. Happy so far.

    I love this little camera - it fits in my pocket and goes every where with me, My other Video Camera is a bigger Panasonic that stays at home now unless I have planned to do some video shoot some where due to its size ....

      I'm glad you're enjoying the Canon V10 and that you also have a bigger camera, a Panasonic, which you use when you need 'the real deal'. You understand the main purpose of the V10 is to be pocket-friendly, and when you want to do serious work, you pull out the Panasonic. It's the correct approach to get the best out of both cameras.

      @@cameraexplorations Thank you my friend - I am just starting to redo my office into a You Tube Studio, now that I am retired I want to take TH-cam more seriously. I have just brought some studio lights and some serious Audio gear - just need to finish off the New Studio now to start filming content .....

    Thank you for your excellent review of this camcorder. Could you please recommend some suitable alternative cameras if possible?

    • @cameraexplorations
      @cameraexplorations  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Glad it was helpful! Given my experience with the V10, if you want a compact camera, I would recommend something that supports interchangeable batteries: Sony ZV-1, for example, or a Canon G7X Mark III - they have RAW support, a wider max. aperture and a zoom lens (so not a fixed focal length lens). Things get complicated if you wanna use it as a webcam without interruption (research is need, Google searches, what people are writing on Reddit). After all this hassle I started appreciating regular mirrorless cameras more, even if they are bigger and require lenses. For filming/vlogging and even photos, you can never go wrong with a Canon R50 or, even better, a Canon R10, for example.

    3:40 thank you.. that’s the info I needed.. another.. in the lowest quality setting, how long can you record with the max capacity micro SD?
    A used $150 Canon G20 became my most used camera for a tenth of the price of my other camera/lens’ set ups. It worked so great I’m considering the G70 however, I don’t need the quality of the video to be good (I focus on audio so all I need is an input) more quality means larger files. The G70 is the same size as the G20.. but the V10 has a wide angle (that I need to place the camera closer to us so ppl don’t trip on the audio/power cable) but I’m concerned for the low light capability vs the G70. Low light capabilities is the only thing that has me wanting to get an upgrade.

      Correction: I made a new video about the V10 on this channel. The recording limit is 1 hour in Full HD, so after 60 minutes, the recording will automatically stop. The low-light capability of the V10 is quite poor since it has an f/2.8 aperture on a one-inch sensor. In full-frame terms, this translates to something a bit darker than f/5.6 in low light, which is not great.

    Review is on point. Interesting camera. Not for me, however. If it did RAW I would consider it because it looks pocketable and I like the vertical orientation. I might keep it on my future radar when prices go down. I think there are better options for similar money like the Panansonic G100 or Olympus EM10 mkii. This camera is too narrow a niche for me. I din’t do much video. But how did you like the ergonomics? What about if you wanted to flip it horizontal?

    • @cameraexplorations
      @cameraexplorations  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! Indeed, the V10 is for a narrow niche; it was designed for vloggers/people who want to quickly film themselves inside or outside their home. For photography, the Panasonic G100 or the Olympus M10 Mk2 are definitely better choices since they support RAW. The G100 even has some great built-in microphones (similar to those I show in the video). It also has a good sensor (a G90 sensor), but unfortunately, it only features an electronic shutter (no mechanical shutter). I'm glad you asked about ergonomics (this subject deserves a separate vlog): the V10 is not great - it's much more comfortable to handle a normal camera. If we want to switch between horizontal and vertical shots, our only option, with a V10, is to twist the wrist. :D For us experienced photographers, this camera will feel odd, but for beginners (who haven't used normal cameras and just want to vlog), this portable camera might be the right choice.

    What are your thoughts on the Canon Powershot V10?

    If you can plug it in directly to your computer while streaming on TH-cam will it not work if it's not fully charged?

    • @cameraexplorations
      @cameraexplorations  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It will work, when plugged directly to the computer, even if the battery is not fully charged. I also made another video about Canon V10's charging, you can find the link in the pinned comment above. Hope it helps!

    What about using a dummty battery when streaming with it?

    • @cameraexplorations
      @cameraexplorations  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I does't have a removable battery, so we can't put a dummy battery in it. What we can do is to power it via cable. I posted a new video on how to do that (you need a special cable). The YT link can be found up, in the pinned comment of this video.

    The overheating is a really big deal for me I don't understand why you didn't mention it at all. I get about 5 minutes of 4K on this thing in my house at 30 frames. If I drop it to 24 frames then it gives you like another 3 minutes

    • @cameraexplorations
      @cameraexplorations  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'll test that and if I have the same issue, I'll put it in the next video about this camera or in one of my YT shorts videos. Thanks for bringing it up!

  • @yatinverma7
    @yatinverma7 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Agh, the no charging while recording/streaming is a big issue!
    I watched another video and the reviewer said it charges while recording so now I'm confused.
    She mentions it around the 8.30 mark in this video: th-cam.com/video/zk5uCvYuPpk/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=hannahdaraa

    • @cameraexplorations
      @cameraexplorations  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That person, for sure, did not test this camera enough. I used the Canon V10 in 3 one and a half hour Zoom calls, while the camera was connected to the computer via the USB-C cable. After those calls, the V10 had one line of battery left. It drains the battery while live streaming, it does not charge while it is recording/streaming. While charging, there is a small led that lights up, on the back of the camera. It is off while the camera is powered on. So, again, it does not charge while streaming or recording. I am certain. Hope this clarifies it.

      @yatinverma7 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cameraexplorations Thank you. This definitely helps!
      I found one used for $150 and I intend to use it for webcam only. No charging when connected to the computer is a letdown.
      What about just normal use? (not connected to the computer)
      If I start recording and plug the USB cable for charging, will it charge or the no charging when in use still applies?

    • @cameraexplorations
      @cameraexplorations  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No charge when in use. The camera refuses to charge if its powered on. There's no way around it, unfortunately.

      It is indeed unfortunate, but all cameras have a battery life of 1 to 1.5 hours while recording. This one does not have an interchangeable battery, that's the issue. The stamina is fine; we just can't replace the battery.

      I bought this camera from my local camera store using my own savings. It would have been great to get a free camera, but this is not the case, especially since I'm not saying that this camera brings only good things, it doesn't.
