Tamara, every time I watch one of your videos, I remember how great you are at delivering content. It’s paced well, informative, objective, comparative and above all, valuable. Most content creators have a phrenetic, high pitched, squeaky voice, use copious amounts of slang and feign wonderment and emotion. Your content is perfect. I have both the Pocket 2 and the Action 3 (and an insta360 One R and Mavic Air 2). These were all bought to chronicle my motorcycle adventures and hopefully, produce good content. Unfortunately, having a very busy job means I have done very little with all these tools. I’m a little bit of an “all the gear, but no idea” sort! However, this summer, I’m going to spend part of my time off creating content. This video has reminded me of your excellent content which I will be using to help me in my content creation, thank you. yes, just make in canon legria mini x - 4k 60p and that's it! This camera is the best that has been created for vlogging, but it is already 10 years old.
I have done several vlogs w/ the V10; I really like it overall but wish it was lower in price for what you get long term. 1. Battery life isn’t great 2. Focus isn’t always clear (while filming & depending on lighting) when needed but when in auto & you stop the clip for a second it refocuses very quickly 3. An automatic zoom is sooo necessary

I think it comes rown to use. Not everyone wants to run around the world and shoot video at the same time. It's perfect for stationary use wich is a very very big portion of users.
This is a good general review of this camera. I researched the V10 a ton recently (mostly reviews from Asia) because the form factor is so interesting for vlogging, and mostly came to the same conclusion as you did. However, did not end up getting an action cam or a DJI Pocket, but a Sony ZV-1f on sale for $400 instead, and I think that beats out the V10 in almost all aspects, with better audio and shallow depth of field (things I prefer) than the action cams.
Have you had any issues with the powershot camera not powering on? I’ve had it for 1 month now. Hardly used it. The power button just blinks green and red. I’m using the cord it came with
I've been looking at this camera for about a month now trying to decide if I should or shouldn't. In that time, it's now come down in price for the full package, now £339, for that reason I got it straight away. My requirements for the camera were pretty simple. I wanted to find something small, reliable and not from a company being ran by the CCP. I know, it got political fast, but right now I can't help it. For the mentioned reasons DJI and Insta360 are instantly out of the race and GoPro have always had issues. This V10 was the only thing that came close to what I wanted without going proper camera, of which I already own a DSLR and several lenses. I can't seem to find anything else that's relevant in this space so with the price drop it was a no brainer. Also, unfortunately, I'm Canon through and through which does help a little. ;) Good work on the video. Even though it wasn't saying things I wanted it to, it was very informative and made me think about a few things.

Looking for a camera that I can use as a 24fps or 20fps for short time lapse but also it have no recording stop time. So I need one w a good battery that last longer than the dji pocket 2 , I just put that on a tripod but the batter only last an hour, so I have to use an extension cord. All that suck. U got any recommendations
@@TamaraGabrielUK I don't have a budget really, but it will just be a time lapse style (basically just fast forward no time lapse setting) so I'm not trying to spend a ton on this camera, I honestly am going to get a better camera w a gimbal or just use my dji mini 2 as my main camera along w the go pro on my head
Only really action cameras plugged into a power supply, otherwise you're looking at a mirrorless camera, but again it just depends how much you want to spend as to what to recommend.
I agree with your conclusion but I think I may be the customer Canon is looking for. I recently got the V10 and I'm quite happy with it. I personally don't like the form factor of action cameras with their tiny screens, and the DJI Osmo Pocket looks too obvious for vlogging. I wanted to vlog my day to day life at home and the work I do at home, and maybe some outside and I found that the V10's form factor really is the best in between of the Pocket and action cameras. It's pocketable but not fragile and not obvious (still pretty self-conscious vlogging outside). While I did film videos on my iPhone 12, I didn't like that my battery goes out fast and I couldn't use my phone while I'm taking a video. The videos I took also gets lost with the photos, screenshots, and random videos I take that's not intended for vlogging. So when I wanted to take on more vlogging, I knew I wanted a separate device beyond my phone that's dedicated for videos without having the action camera aspect ratio / look and being too obvious. And most importantly not having the typical flip-out camera others have.
I agree with you 💯 % I just bought it 😅 one year later. And all my thoughts about it, was exactly the same as yours 🙏 I was lucky to get it new for 150 dollars.

Agree with you. Bought the Canon V10 and tested for a week. Too many negatives and almost no manual control. Now I have the ZV-1M2 for double the price but better in low light, way more tweak able and during day the stabilization with shutter above 100-200 is fine. I did notice that in HD the stabilization on the ZV-1M2 is much better than in 4K when walking.
Yeah, it’s disappointing, I was really looking forward to the V10 when it was announced. The ZV-1 M2 has some good things going for it, it’s an improvement on the M1 too.
I actually like the idea of a camera the size of a credit card that can do everything well. If 1. The 1 inch sensor had good Dynamic range and say 20 MP for good photos. If they could do an APS-C that would be superb. 2. IBIS(preferably)or good EIS or stabilization similar to the iphone would be nice. 3. I would hv liked a variable focal length, eveb if the optical zoom just maxed at 2x(3x would be a nice sweet spot). The fov is good
I have also bought the Canon V10. I thoroughly agree with your review. One thing you have missed mentioning is that the V10 has terrible auto focusing as well in low light. The camera could suddenly lose focus and it takes several seconds to get back on track. I can only guess the reason why the V10 was released is that Canon was feeling desperate at not capturing the vlogger's camera market. Unfortunately, most of the technology incorporated in the V10 is old and haphazardly pieced together. It's totally unforgiving to see that even a small action camera can have such smooth gimbal stabilization. Why was Canon not able to do that? For what it's worth, had a China company produced such a camera like the V10, I am sure its price could be halved! Much said, I feel the V10 has some saving grace: 1. It could work for vloggers who want to record more stationary "sit down" videos without moving the camera too much; 2. Those who wish to separate the usage of their phones from video camera; 3. You want nicer quality still images (V10 has a large 1" sensor than those found in action cams). Other that the above, hmmm, I think Canon has done a terrible job here. It reminds me many years of a crappy compact camera -- the Canon N if I remember correctly. It simply died after that. I doubt we will see a V10 Mark II or a V20. Stop the nonsense, Canon! You are no longer the best camera company. Buck up!
I bought this camera... And it is not awesome, but it's not terrible either. I review smartphones and sometimes I'm using cheap phones that are way worse... So it's like a backup camera to keep a minimum quality standard when I'm only with cheap phones around

Great point! Unfortunately I do not feel comfortable mounting the P3 on a tabletop tripod. I am too afraid if it accidentally tips over it will damage the gimble.
Honestly - the best choice for vlogging is a good old fashion simple point a shoot with a flippy screen in full automatic mode. I (very stupidly) bought a Nikon Z30 because I wanted to be a pro 4k vlogger but then I realized, managing all the settings manually really ruined the fun of vlogging for me and the camera is too big and heavy it's just not fun to vlog with. shooting in 4k DESTROYS the battery life quickly and the camera has a big ASPC sensor so there's this rolling shutter jello effect in 4k. (don't get me wrong, all Z30 competitors in the price point are just as bad or worse). Common rooking mistake of buying gear to feel like pro.
Love your videos, Tamara! Might this PowerShot V10 be a simpler alternative for someone who is less demanding, less mobile, and less tech savvy, like our parents or grandparents? How would you rate the PowerShot's ease of use vs the action cameras and the Pocket 2?
Thanks! I'd say that the action cameras and Pocket 2 are just as easy to use as the V10, if not easier. For outdoor use, even if you're not walking around, I still think that the action cameras and Pocket 2 are the superior choice because you just get so much more for your money.
I can only imagine the production engineers at Canon scratching their heads and saying: “Oh my, where did we go wrong?!” I wasn’t impressed with the V10 from the first time I saw it. I got so excited when this was announced (well I get excited about many cameras, haha) but this even with its unique design just looked really interesting and I thought Canon would create something really awesome for the vlogging creators. Such a disappointment.
pocket 2 is fine in light rain or snow. sure it doesn't have a rating but it's quite a resilient little camera for anything except dropping. lanyard use mandatory
love the review, however, I did notice that you didn't use a tripod/any handle while shooting the Canon V10. Just putting it out there that it might affect the stabilization.
U can’t live stream with dji the v10 is plug an play, id use it for that and in a control setting I got my v10 for 350 hope I’m happy with it. Nice vid!

I personally don’t recommend the V10 for all the reasons I mentioned in the video, unless you’re predominantly going to be filming indoors with very good lighting and the camera stationary, but even then I think the pocket 2 is superior in that situation too, so I’d still choose that over the V10. The Insta360 GO 3 wouldn’t be my first choice as a dedicated vlogging camera, I see it as a creative/pov camera first that you could vlog with should you need to sometimes but not a main vlogging camera.
I agree. I just watched canons (no comment) trailer to this and was very disappointed with the video. Even their own video was not appetizing knowing there is DJI out there. Great video and thank you for confirming my suspicions.
That Pocket 2 has fantastic night footage. If using it without a smartphone to view, is it still useable for vlogging, with the tiny screen? Cant wait for the Pocket 3/ Etc.
It’s still bright enough to see, it’s just small. I can still read the EV meter well enough to keep an eye on the exposure, and I can still use the menu fine too.
That price point is ridiculous. I just saw an ad and went to look for a real review. I was about to look at the product page on the Canon website. Soon as I saw the price of the V10 I said you got to be kidding.
The V10 was such a confusing product release by Canon. I really think Canon should look into developing the Canon Powershot G7 X Mark IV. It has already been almost 3 years since the Mark III's release. Based on what I see on the internet, the Canon Powershot G7 type cameras are selling really well.
well the V10 is all about simplicity and ease of use. And that $350 price point is not bad either. My go to as of 2024 is the new Dji pocket 3. The V10 makes a great backup system though.
Bizarre camera. Why wouldn't Canon just continue and improve on the G7X line which was a popular vlogging camera? At this point im just waiting for the DJI Action 4, I heard its coming out soon with a 1/1.3 sensor and hopefully no focus issues. At the end of the day eventually the action cams will win out as they improve, it's better to have a small rugged camera you can get wet and take anywhere than anything else.
I’ve had the V10 for a little more than a month now and I honestly love it. Sure, it has its shortcomings, but I love its ease if use, it does what I need it to do, and IMO the form factor just can’t be beat. What can I say? I’m a fan of it! 😆 Thanks for your review.
Too bad you missed several strong points of the product and didn't mention them in your comparison: - low light performance, the large sensor of the V10 would be an advantage over other products with smaller products - incorporated adjustable stand - audio quality, you only mentioned video, but for first time vloggers separate audio gear could be a problem and V10 has amazing audio quality with noise canceling - possibility to use the V10 for streaming using just a usb-c cable
You miss the KEY point that the v10 is not just a vlogging camera ! it is an everyday camera for any activity or purpose ! try to carry a gimble in your pocket ... the sensor is big, the quality is Canon, the build is sturdy, it needs no tripod in most cases, ( try to put your gimble on a table ..) and it is affordable . I prefer this camera to most other portable ones and , no fuss, no hype, it makes good pictures and good videos, it has a very original and clever design, and it is easy to use for anybody, just not for young geeks only !
I like the idea of the V10 but it seems to have been put together in a very cack-handed way. At $430 it's no better than my $50 pre-pay phone. My pre-pay phone is 4K. I'm not sure the V10 worth more than $50 because of that.
Kinda sad how Panasonic, Canon, and Sony have either abandoned or only make mediocre action cameras. Like, I still don't understand why Sony never gave us a new camera after the X3000R...
well maybe V10 is for first time vloggers that don't know anything about cameras, but sadly there are reviews and vloggers who say it as it is so if you dont watch TH-cam videos you'll be sorry in the end
Actually, it is good for behind the scene camera. It is easy and reliable to do that for us and some hyperlapse as well. On the other hand, I love DJI pocket 2 because of its low-light performance and awesome color.
I completely disagree w/u; I’m not dome x game skateboarder that needs a gimbal or a go pro for vlogging; I like doing crafty stuff and this little camera does the trick.
Thanks for your work. This time I wonder if your really fair. For example, canon has the audio in 3.5 mm port with manual control over levels(?). And as some of your video shows, a background blur and not the action cam look with everything in focus. Your video also shows that the canon seems to keep colors in for example low light. That’s just my thought, have a great day (I don’t have the canon, but GoPro and DJI action). And the canon can also easily be used as a webcam if I understand this correct (while DJI and GoPro is horrible in this point).
Yeah, it does have the 3.5mm port but the options I mentioned all have the ability to connect an external mic too, even though for the HERO11 you have to buy the Media Mod, but with the Action 3 you just plug in a USB-C mic, and with the Pocket 2 Creator Combo, which is around the same price as the V10 Essential Kit, it comes with a wireless transmitter which is also a remote trigger and you can adjust audio levels manually. So in my opinion, the Pocket 2 is still better value for money. Thanks for watching though and your observations, have a great day too 😊
Absolutely right.GoPro is the best in every aspect. I had have previously an Insta 360 Go3 and found that for use its touch screen you have to have a dry fingers, otherwise this screen response is rather limited.

Pocket 2 is great, I struggled with the micro screen so went back to DJI osmo action (1). Just waiting on a special for the action 3
Yeah the screen can be a pain. Action cameras are great for vlogging anyway. You get virtually everything in one all-round package.

No, it’s rechargeable but not removable.

Other that the above, hmmm, I think Canon has done a terrible job here. It reminds me many years of a crappy compact camera -- the Canon N if I remember correctly. It simply died after that.
I doubt we will see a V10 Mark II or a V20. Stop the nonsense, Canon! You are no longer the best camera company. Buck up!

I bought this camera... And it is not awesome, but it's not terrible either.
I review smartphones and sometimes I'm using cheap phones that are way worse... So it's like a backup camera to keep a minimum quality standard when I'm only with cheap phones around

Great video Tamara! The V10 is now listed for $299 in the US. Does the $200 price reduction in your opinion move it to a “Recommend Buy” status for more webcam work versus vlogging? I already own a GoPro Hero 11, DJI Action 4 and Pocket 1 & 3. Happy Holidays to you and your family!!!

Great point! Unfortunately I do not feel comfortable mounting the P3 on a tabletop tripod. I am too afraid if it accidentally tips over it will damage the gimble.
Honestly - the best choice for vlogging is a good old fashion simple point a shoot with a flippy screen in full automatic mode.
I (very stupidly) bought a Nikon Z30 because I wanted to be a pro 4k vlogger but then I realized, managing all the settings manually really ruined the fun of vlogging for me and the camera is too big and heavy it's just not fun to vlog with. shooting in 4k DESTROYS the battery life quickly and the camera has a big ASPC sensor so there's this rolling shutter jello effect in 4k.
(don't get me wrong, all Z30 competitors in the price point are just as bad or worse).
Common rooking mistake of buying gear to feel like pro.
Love your videos, Tamara! Might this PowerShot V10 be a simpler alternative for someone who is less demanding, less mobile, and less tech savvy, like our parents or grandparents? How would you rate the PowerShot's ease of use vs the action cameras and the Pocket 2?
Thanks! I'd say that the action cameras and Pocket 2 are just as easy to use as the V10, if not easier. For outdoor use, even if you're not walking around, I still think that the action cameras and Pocket 2 are the superior choice because you just get so much more for your money.

I can only imagine the production engineers at Canon scratching their heads and saying: “Oh my, where did we go wrong?!” I wasn’t impressed with the V10 from the first time I saw it. It looks clunky and unattractive, and absolutely ridiculous with the wind screens on. I’d really like to know who they were targeting with the V10. As always, good review Ms. Tamara! 💜💜
I got so excited when this was announced (well I get excited about many cameras, haha) but this even with its unique design just looked really interesting and I thought Canon would create something really awesome for the vlogging creators. Such a disappointment.

pocket 2 is fine in light rain or snow. sure it doesn't have a rating but it's quite a resilient little camera for anything except dropping. lanyard use mandatory
love the review, however, I did notice that you didn't use a tripod/any handle while shooting the Canon V10. Just putting it out there that it might affect the stabilization.
U can’t live stream with dji the v10 is plug an play, id use it for that and in a control setting I got my v10 for 350 hope I’m happy with it. Nice vid!
I am using it with flexi tripod and can't see any demerits as of now..

I personally don’t recommend the V10 for all the reasons I mentioned in the video, unless you’re predominantly going to be filming indoors with very good lighting and the camera stationary, but even then I think the pocket 2 is superior in that situation too, so I’d still choose that over the V10. The Insta360 GO 3 wouldn’t be my first choice as a dedicated vlogging camera, I see it as a creative/pov camera first that you could vlog with should you need to sometimes but not a main vlogging camera.
Just get the Canon V10 Powershot. This camera is Amazing. You won't regret it!

That Pocket 2 has fantastic night footage. If using it without a smartphone to view, is it still useable for vlogging, with the tiny screen?

It’s still bright enough to see, it’s just small. I can still read the EV meter well enough to keep an eye on the exposure, and I can still use the menu fine too.

That price point is ridiculous. I just saw an ad and went to look for a real review. I was about to look at the product page on the Canon website. Soon as I saw the price of the V10 I said you got to be kidding.

The V10 was such a confusing product release by Canon. I really think Canon should look into developing the Canon Powershot G7 X Mark IV. It has already been almost 3 years since the Mark III's release. Based on what I see on the internet, the Canon Powershot G7 type cameras are selling really well.
well the V10 is all about simplicity and ease of use. And that $350 price point is
not bad either. My go to as of 2024 is the new Dji pocket 3. The V10 makes a great
backup system though.

Bizarre camera. Why wouldn't Canon just continue and improve on the G7X line which was a popular vlogging camera? At this point im just waiting for the DJI Action 4, I heard its coming out soon with a 1/1.3 sensor and hopefully no focus issues. At the end of the day eventually the action cams will win out as they improve, it's better to have a small rugged camera you can get wet and take anywhere than anything else.

I’ve had the V10 for a little more than a month now and I honestly love it. Sure, it has its shortcomings, but I love its ease if use, it does what I need it to do, and IMO the form factor just can’t be beat. What can I say? I’m a fan of it! 😆 Thanks for your review.

Too bad you missed several strong points of the product and didn't mention them in your comparison:
- low light performance, the large sensor of the V10 would be an advantage over other products with smaller products
- incorporated adjustable stand
- audio quality, you only mentioned video, but for first time vloggers separate audio gear could be a problem and V10 has amazing audio quality with noise canceling
- possibility to use the V10 for streaming using just a usb-c cable
The v10 just seems really easy though for those who just want to shoot inside
You miss the KEY point that the v10 is not just a vlogging camera ! it is an everyday camera for any activity or purpose ! try to carry a gimble in your pocket ... the sensor is big, the quality is Canon, the build is sturdy, it needs no tripod in most cases, ( try to put your gimble on a table ..) and it is affordable . I prefer this camera to most other portable ones and , no fuss, no hype, it makes good pictures and good videos, it has a very original and clever design, and it is easy to use for anybody, just not for young geeks only !
But quality is sucks tho
I like the idea of the V10 but it seems to have been put together in a very cack-handed way. At $430 it's no better than my $50 pre-pay phone. My pre-pay phone is 4K. I'm not sure the V10 worth more than $50 because of that.

Actually, it is good for behind the scene camera. It is easy and reliable to do that for us and some hyperlapse as well. On the other hand, I love DJI pocket 2 because of its low-light performance and awesome color.

I completely disagree w/u; I’m not dome x game skateboarder that needs a gimbal or a go pro for vlogging; I like doing crafty stuff and this little camera does the trick.

Thanks for your work. This time I wonder if your really fair. For example, canon has the audio in 3.5 mm port with manual control over levels(?). And as some of your video shows, a background blur and not the action cam look with everything in focus. Your video also shows that the canon seems to keep colors in for example low light. That’s just my thought, have a great day (I don’t have the canon, but GoPro and DJI action). And the canon can also easily be used as a webcam if I understand this correct (while DJI and GoPro is horrible in this point).
Yeah, it does have the 3.5mm port but the options I mentioned all have the ability to connect an external mic too, even though for the HERO11 you have to buy the Media Mod, but with the Action 3 you just plug in a USB-C mic, and with the Pocket 2 Creator Combo, which is around the same price as the V10 Essential Kit, it comes with a wireless transmitter which is also a remote trigger and you can adjust audio levels manually. So in my opinion, the Pocket 2 is still better value for money. Thanks for watching though and your observations, have a great day too 😊

Absolutely right.GoPro is the best in every aspect. I had have previously an Insta 360 Go3 and found that for use its touch screen you have to have a dry fingers, otherwise this screen response is rather limited.
