100 % man, Definitely could have seen this flash even becoming Peter's friend eventually like they are in the comics. And when he said "Your uncle died, that sucks", i thought it was so genuine and really humanised him.
Aka the best scene in this entire movie… it shows that flash is a real person and not just a sociopathic movie character who relentlessly torments…because as we all know there isn’t a person on this earth who would try to bully a person after their loved one just died lol

@@Bale4Bond peter Parker has always been attractive in the comics he dates supermodels for fucks sake And being bullied isn't always about how attractive you are
I honestly think that basically everything about the Andrew Garfield portrayal of SpiderMan and the Emma Stone portrayal of Gwen Stacey is incredible in these movies, but most of the stuff surrounding their characters are what makes these movies weak. I think their relationship and the emotional scenes that are driven by them are effective and potent, and are definitely the high points of these movies. I very much would have wanted to see those 2 characters in a more competent and succinct story
I think the Spider-Man aspect is handled well also. his quips, responsibility and overall way of dealing with these villains are great. I think it’s the Peter parker stuff that doesn’t work for me. Sort of the opposite of the Raimi movies where I liked the Peter that you feel bad for, but his Spider-Man isn’t the best in my opinion.
@@thefilmrookie3099 When I picture Peter Parker I don't think of a weirdo like Toby. I don't know where people get this idea Peter needs to be a weird nerd. In every comic Peter is a handsome guy. I think Andrew's portrayal of Peter is straight from the comics. Updated for the 2010s.
Exactly! Andrew Garfield was my favorite Peter/Spider-Man in the movies, and Emma Stone was the best love interest in any of them, too. (none of the movies top the '90's animated show, though) But the plots, the side characters, the villains, literally everything else around them was horrible. It really irks me, they deserved the budget and direction of the Raimi or MCU movies, but instead they had to do the best they could w/ almost nothing.
@@noobbotgaming2173 I mean he isn’t handsome but he isn’t ugly. but Tobey is just a caricature of Peter parker than actually being a Peter himself. I just think Andrews just doesn’t get a lot of development on that side in favour of the Spider-Man aspect, which I love to be honest.
@@zonastarwars4397 I mean yes, it’s a very messy movie, they could’ve incorporated the lizard in better too instead of just forgetting about Ben’s killer
The ONE thing about TASM 2 that always bugs me is... During all the trailers, there was this subplot about Oscorp keeping surveillance on Peter Parker and Dane Dehaan even had that "Well, isn't that the question of the day?" line that seemed so intriguing, and then all that is nowhere to be seen in the final cut. I know there's such things about fake scenes in trailers, but this is a whole subplot that was just in the trailers. Theres deleted scenes, but still, it's not the same
Well they filmed an entire subplot with Shaillene Woodley as MJ that got completely cut. Pretty sure they filmed enough for essentially two movies worth of narrative. It's no small wonder the final film is such a mess.
@@kickass2117 This movie was the same. Lizard taunted Peter about THE TRUTH OF HIS PARENTS. But the movie didnt even hint at him knowing anything until the equally unresolved postcredit scene.
The best aunt May in my opinion. The acting was great and I love how not perfect she is. The original Aunt May is just a sweet old woman and the newer one is mostly just there for jokes and gags. This Aunt actually feels like a single mother who lost her husband and now trying her best to provide.
Dude I genuinely said to myself the other day , “If Anton yelchin had still been alive he would have probably had a shot at being Spider-Man” , good to know that he was considered at one point
Before this came out I was looking into it and saw his name and Josh Hutcherson in the running, as well as Emma Roberts for Gwen Stacy. This immediately made me think that they would have been amazing as Harry, Peter, and Gwen respectively in a movie influenced by Spectacular Spider-Man.
I loved his take, and how he started out as an angry kid who was still unsure of himself. He puts on an act to make people think he’s confident but he’s not. He’s an angry socially awkward kid who was dealt a crappy hand. His issues keep on piling up and he takes it out on the ones he loves. It wasn’t until after the death of uncle Ben that he sees the error of his ways. Still misguided though, he seeks revenge instead of justice. He thinks he’s doing the city a favor but he’s just trying to please his subconscious. He feels responsible for the death of his uncle (because he is). It’s not until after the talk with Captain Stacy, and saving Jack that he realizes that he can be greater and protect others from ever feeling the loss that he felt. It’s extremely realistic and is, in my opinion, an amazing character study into the character of Spider-Man, and what it means to be a hero. I still might put Ps4, and spectacular Spider-Man over Garfield but he’s certainly top 3.
You’d think that his aunt and uncle would have done more to help him through his issues that started when his parents left all those years ago. Do we ever get any information on that?
@@austinjohnsen4430 I mean they very well could have, but it just doesn’t show on screen. He is a quiet and reserved kind of guy so if something was wrong he wouldn’t tell anybody anyways. I’m pretty much the same in that regard so I’ve always related to Andrew’s the most.
@@thatjoshwright5577 Regardless if he would or wouldn’t have told anybody, May and Ben still probably should have noticed the effect it’s having on Peter in all the years he was with them. Ben himself even says to Peter early in the movie that he knows it’s been hard since his father left. Showing that he’s very much aware of of the effect this is having on Peter. Seems like he’s known for quite a while. It just seems very odd that he and May wouldn’t have done more to help their nephew through this kind of problem assuming that it’s been festering since he was 4 years old, and Peter’s gotta be at least 17 in this movie. So that’s about 13 years this has apparently been going on. Really says a lot about them as guardians if this is the case.
I legit love this uncle Ben more simply bc he feels more like a down to earth father figure than the raimi ones where he's essentially a saint, idk sometimes less is more to me at least.
Okay but, Dave Bautista as a high school teacher in a tough neighborhood that helps a few of the local youths sucked would be an awesome movie. Idk where I thought of that, but it started with having a bigger teacher.
Not gonna lie, I'd watch the hell out of that movie. Dave Bautista has even said that he'd like to move away from being type cast as the big tough henchman guy and would prefer acting more nuanced roles, so... yeah, someone in Hollywood, make this movie. You've got my ticket money.
It's insane to me that in 2021, the year of our Lord, there are still people who are angry we haven't seen the Tom Holland version of the origin story. even after two film franchises in less than 15 years and a Volvo family-sized car boot-full of animated TV shows that have all had a crack at the origin
People are always gonna complain about whatever they can get their hands on, I’m personally never bothered by it cuz when we’re first introduced to him, he really does seem normal but when you see only aunt may you can tell he’s lost uncle Ben and he goes through his life with that always in his memory, just like people who actually lose someone. It’s realistic to me, which I think Tom holland spidey excels at, being a realistic teenager.
If you really think about it your head will hurt by how stupid that idea is. The idea that even tho it takes 2 seconds to do and everyone did that back then somehow its sci-fi because reasons.
Maybe, I think Andrew’s Peter Parker was just less compelling and less believable. He feels closer to Johnny Storm or Dick Grayson, just a cool stud who’s a bit troubled. With Tobey and Tom they’re such wallflowers it’s more satisfying when they hero up.

The casting and acting in this movie is great. If this was written when Peter Parker was in University like the PS4 game it would make sense. Also The Lizard doesnt work as a character if Curt Connors isn't regretful like a Jekyll and Hyde type character like the comics.
@@UnoriginalUsername25 My bad, I think you are correct. The highschool scenes in this movie could be more translated to a University setting than if he graduated though.
Connors does have back and forth in the comics, but it was more like Hulk. The lizard personality was separate from his own and something he had to keep suppressed. By the time he managed to control it, he had killed his son which is extra tragic.
You guys saying they should have ditched the origin made me imagine a version of the movie that opens with the rooftop jump. Open on the skyline from the roof, teenager walks up to the edge, hesitates, thinks about it and then jumps. @@DavySolaris Ok well Spider-Man aking jokes and quips while he takes down criminals can be seen as a form of cokyness. In Spider-Man's early years he would think stuff like "These people aren't worth my intelligence" regarding people who bullied him, that was before he got his powers. If you think that Spider-Man's personality in the Raimi movies is the correct personality for him then sadly you are incorrect. Spider-Man has a history of being cocky and vengeful. Just facts man

"As usual, Ginger and I are engaged on our quest to find out what the hell is going on and save humanity from my nemesis, some bastard who is presumably responsible."
One scene I like from this movie is the part where it's right after Ben dies and Flash comes to talk to Peter. You expect him to do his bully thing but he actually comes to comfort him in his own way, makes Flash out to be more than the generic role he usually gets.
One thing that wasn't mentioned was Rhys Ifans' performance. For the most part, he has served comedic roles and seeing him in this was just different. I thought he did a very good Curt Connors and a very good turn into a more serious role. I find the costume to look good. I like the fact that it's very different from the Tobey Maguire ones. The yellow eyes are a nice touch, I don't know why. I was a bit disappointed to see it change in TASM 2 though seeing a thinner live action version of that Spidey suit was still good.
This movie’s crime isn’t being bad, it’s actually pretty decent and Garfield is a good Spidey. This movie’s crime is being forgettable. It’s sandwiched between the classic Rami era and the Tom Holland MCU era… and even TASM2 stands out for being a big swing and a miss. This movie just kind of exists.
I also feel Spidey works best as part of a bigger story, not being the centre of everything himself. I know people complain about MCU Spidey being subservient to the Avengers but Peter Park isn’t the main hero dude of New York in the comics but that just makes him stand out more. It also makes Spidey’s adventures more of a break from the world wide threat stuff, which this ASM movies do twice.
I really like these movies. My favorite thing about the second one inparticular is he's just very good at being Spiderman. He can see shit in slow motion and save everyone (apart from anyone in the Stacey family ) and its awesome. Where Tom Holland, although probably in better movies overall, he's like bumbling his way around the action scenes. And Maguire is just bumbling his way through conversations and is generally just a dickhead.
This is by far the *FUNNIEST* I've ever heard James act - from start to finish - Mason followed him in ripping ASM to shreds, and was also extra hilarious. IDK what James ate (or smoked) before recording, but please do so in all future Caravan Of Garbage videos! I was "ROFLMAO"-ing, as they say - Rolling On The Floor Like A Total Nutcase, Laughing My Ass Off At How Bad this Movie Is, & How Many Sick Burns You Guys Said! The editing of course was also key in nailing the jokes, so good job whichever one of y'all it was. I watched it twice in a row and also sent it to a bunch of friends. I have _never_ rewatched one of these IMMEDIATELY before, so just- damn. I'm hype for next week now. MORE ANGRY WET BOY🤣
“Let’s New York for this guy…” I love New York as a verb. Unrelated, my favorite “Real New Yorkers Interact with Spider-Man” from any Spider-Man is the guy from Homecoming yelling “Do a flip…Yeah!” Love it!
Wow, props to Ben for the editing (if he did it this time) when y’all were talking about Rodrigo losing his bright future and it being his origin story while showing clips of Spot. He was ahead of the curve!
The amazing spider man movies for me have individual things I like but not everything it’s a mixed bag I enjoy Andrew as Peter his chemistry with Emma stone is amazing, that bridge scene where he helps boy , the swinging scenes and the part in second move where he fixes that random kids project after it’s gets destroyed by those bullies then walks home with him but out of two I would be more likely to visit first one again
All of these are great moments and feel very much like spider-man to me. Tobey kind of lacked this. Another great thing about Andrew was his spider-man quips, the delivery as well as the jokes themselves were great. Like the 'Oh god you've found my weakness, it's small knives!"
It's about time you guys took on Constantine for this show, in my opinion. Also, glad to hear you say Spiderverse is the best Spider-Man movie, because it obviously is. It's got to be in the top five of all comic book movies.
Raimi shills always treat Spider-Man 2 as the Second Coming, but it’s not just Spider-Verse that’s better. I’ve always considered SM1 and Far From Home better as well.
Honestly, I feel these movies get a lot of undeserved hate. In particular from Raimi Trilogy fans. Some of it is definitely deserved -- I don't know a single person who has ever, in any medium, cared about Peter's parents, including the whole robot duplicate revenge plot thing -- but they have some merits. The cast is genuinely good, the characters feel more layered, Peter actually shows scientific skills and the characters feel like they're actually advancing in their lives. They're not perfect, but they capture a different side of Spider-Man vs. the more classic and cartoony Raimi films.
The characters show way more growth in Raimi's first 2 films and Peter is shown as a genuine scientific prodigy. In TASM 2 wha tdoes Garfield's Peter even do? Schools finished and he is just swinging to places. Job, studies...nah, nothing but a 2 second mention of it in between apparently having a 12 year old bets friend he hasnt seen in 8 years. These movies are cynical cash grabs where as the Raimi films were pieces of cinema.
@@riazuddin4920 everything gets hate from raimi fans. If I wasn't a huge Evil Dead fan I'd probably hate Sam Raimi just because of how Spider-Man nerds won't shut up about how "perfect" Tobey Maguire is.
Explain how Gwen Stacy is one of those more layered characters. Who is she as an individual outside of her relationship to Peter? She mostly comes across as smart science girl and not much else. In the Rami movies the characters weren’t just defined by their relationships to Peter, and we get a pretty good idea of what drives them to do what they do. Harry Osborn’s whole thing is that he wants to live up to his father’s name and avenge him in any way he can that it starts to consume him. From investing money in a risky fusion experiment to sending a wanted supervillain to capture Spider Man. Even MJ has stuff going on outside of Spider Man. A girl with issues of abandonment and loneliness that stem from her abusive father and has a desire to make him eat everything he’s ever said about her. It kinda explains why she leapfrogs from one guy to another throughout the movies.
Say what you will about this movie, the characters were more developed than the Raimi movies e.g. Flash is an actual person instead of a standard Jock character
To me, Ben died because he believed in that philosophy that Richard Parker lived by. No, there wasn’t anyone near the guy at the time but he knew that if he let him go there would be a chance that good, innocent people would be hurt, which makes his death so tragic after he lectured Peter on living that same ideology.

making everyone a lizard is just "i've gone crazy so i'm gonna take my science to an insane conclusion" which was exactly dr. octopus's motivation in the 2nd one that everyone fuckin' loved so i never really understood the criticism for this villain's motivation
Because the Ock’s plan didn’t involve lizards and turning people into them. People can buy a artificial big sun drawing people in, but lizard gas is swings too much into Batman and Robin territory for people.
I'd like to see Ben's killer return in the Marvel Multiverse but he actually IS Mr Nickelback (from when they done the song for the first Maguire Spiderman movie). The return and multiverse crossover that we need.
I remember behind the scenes the costume designer tried to go for a suit that could be homemade at that time. He has trainer soles on his shoes from I think some Nike shoes and the lenses are made from some sunglasses or something. It's definitely not as nice a suit as others we've seen but you've got to appreciate the realism attempt.
The problem with that logic is for that premise to work you have to go all the way with it. If you want a “realistic” suit then it needs to look way shittier, like Tobey’s wrestling suit or Tom’s homemade suit. In TASM, the final suit still looks way to good to get that impression across. Aside from the things you mentioned the suit itself still feels too professionally made, so it doesn’t really work as “realistic”. But at the same time, because of all the things like crappy boots and sunglass lenses, it’s too shitty to be considered a quality movie suit like TASM2. So instead of having a beautiful comic accurate suit or a realistic homemade suit the TASM1 suit falls in the middle and unfortunately doesn’t work as either.
I actually really enjoyed the look of the lizard. It looks less like something I would see in some cartoon from when I was a child. I think there should be an understanding when it comes to creating the model of a character so many love. No matter what you do, people are going to dislike it, if they had done the snout people would have complained about it being too cheesy or corny and doesnt look like a mutation someone would get after turning their humanoid body into a lizard like creature. They tried to mesh a human and lizard together and it looked pretty scary and cool imo. Amazing videos though, I appreciate the good laughs and quality content :).
Remember that Dennis Leary didn’t just steal Bill Hicks’ personality, he also stole a bunch of his jokes (and the "i'm an asshole" song idea from a Louis CK joke when he was new. theres a radio segment about it out there. give it a goog!) Don’t hate him as an actor, but I do hate joke thieves
I would like to say that one of the first Mr Sunday Movies I watched briefly went over the events of TASM, in which Maso said “I wish I was a lizard… I am a lizard” and I’ve been hooked on these videos ever since, several years to the day

(none of the movies top the '90's animated show, though)
But the plots, the side characters, the villains, literally everything else around them was horrible.

I remember loving the part where he broke a door knob. Really was a better representation
Yeah that was definitely more creative. Accidentally breaking his alarm clock because he couldn't control his strength yet was much more believable
Yeah it's a more realistic representation but it takes too much time.

Yes.

Kinda can't just give him powers and not explain it especially when every other MCU heroes has had one
One scene I like from this movie is the part where it's right after Ben dies and Flash comes to talk to Peter. You expect him to do his bully thing but he actually comes to comfort him in his own way, makes Flash out to be more than the generic role he usually gets.
Yeah, Flash’s arc on the comics from bullying douchebag to Peter’s greatest friend is amazing but we’ve never gotten once in the films.

I like Spiderverse a lot, but I don't see why people think it's one of the best?
Finally someone who agrees
“That wet mean boy stole my opportunity” that’s a sentence I didn’t know I needed to hear someone say
11:19 OH MY GOD!!! I never hear That Mitchell and Webb Look being referenced, let alone a specific sketch like Sir Digby Chicken Caesar. Gr8 taste m8s!
making everyone a lizard is just "i've gone crazy so i'm gonna take my science to an insane conclusion" which was exactly dr. octopus's motivation in the 2nd one that everyone fuckin' loved so i never really understood the criticism for this villain's motivation
Yes or a he was in a nickelback cover band but they disbanded. Which left him in crippling debt.

Kinda disappointed y'all didn't play a section from the questionable movie-tie-in videogame. Funnily enough, this was the first spider-man movie I saw. At the time 13-year-old me was getting into skateboarding and parkour so I really liked this movie. Today I realize its flaws as a movie and as a spider-man story, but I look back at it fondly.
"We're all crane operators, can you call some other crane operators? We gotta arrange some cranes. We need a scene that deals with the logistics of cranes."
~Nick Mason
The "Dave Bauteacher" bit made me laugh more than it probably should have.
I never would have expected Jerma to show up on a Mr Sunday Movie's video, holy shit. Well done Ben
The amazing spider man movies are incredibly underrated, Andrew Garfields a great spiderman can’t wait to see him in no way home!
These movies are goddamn terrible. A lizard wanting to make the whole city into lizards? Super spy parents and hidden subway cars? It’s nonsense
@@Davidsworldtravels ah because a boy bitten by a spider who gets spider powers isn’t nonsense
Only for you guys will I sit through two non-skippable 15 second ads. Appreciate it!
one thing not mentioned: the emotional scenes are the best of the main spiderman movies, Andrew Garfield is a superior actor compared to Tom and Tobey
Facts!
Dunno, I felt more with Tobey when Uncle Ben died and cried when Tom’s Spidey turned to dust. Andrew had a few great acting scenes tho.
The delivery of "What!?" for Peter's reaction to Gwen and Captain Stacy's bullshit kills me every time.
Love this movie. Has a lot of what I felt the Raimi films lacked. Wish the sequel kept this one’s tone and grounded quality rather than trying to be more like the Raimi ones
Gotta love Aunt May's response regardling preparation for the role, nowadays every actor/actress tries to make a big deal of every character they play and in the end it was a blink and miss type character...
I really liked The Amazing Spider-Man even though it's an origin story and it's only 2 movies, but it's great and was killed too early.
The keypad, aside from being infuriatingly complicated, is also the exact same design as the one glimpsed in Iron Man.
