Great video! Just subscribed. Hope to see this channel blow up :)
I think TASM2 is the first real example of a studio trying to emulate the MCU’s success, but failing to understand what made the MCU work initially in the first place; not only did they try to introduce a massive smorgasbord of characters in one movie, but most of these characters are villains. Why the studio thought that general audiences would be interested in comparably-niche characters, and villains at that, leading their own solo spinoff films is beyond me, but clearly Sony went ahead with their plan anyway and decided to forego setup entirely - and we’ve all seen how that’s turned out.

Big problem with the Amazing franchise to me is that Sony was trying to imitate the other popular super hero blookbuster too much. First one was completely trying to bank on a Dark Knigth gritty aesthetic while the second one was all about being bright and colorful to get that sweet Avengers money; You can really see which era each movie is from instead of feeling like a strong franchise.

Very interesting point and I completely agree with that. I have a real soft spot for the Andrew movies but there’s no doubt they were trying to cater to a certain style for each rather than focusing in on a true Spiderman story

8:11 This graffiti (despite being a render of the Tobey suit from Spidey PS4), is meant to allude to fallout at the end of *Far From Home* where the public are led to believe Spidey murdered Mysterio (hence why Vulture, while being transferred, just knows who Morbius is at the of the same trailer)
*Behind the scenes* After the contract between Sony and Marvel had concluded (with the release of their agreed 6th movie, “Far From Home”), Sony were betting the renegotiations would lead to the SonyVerse being integrated into the MCU proper (as Amy Pascal falsely stated in a promotional interview for Venom). Sony even had Tom Holland appear in Venom as an “unnamed teenager”, but Marvel vetoed the casting due to breach of contract (because let’s face it, we all know who he’s supposed to be)
9:55 This may have been done out of spite on Sony’s part. Mysterio’s inclusion in *Far From Home* was a point of contention between the two studios, as Sony wanted him for a *Mysterio & Kraven* team up movie (no I’m not kidding)
10:47 This clip is one of the few that was survived into the movie (yes, unfortunately I did watch the movie)
11:47 The director, Daniel Espinosa, stated Vulture got brought into the SonyVerse because Strange’s spell sent him there. He quickly went radio silent when people pointed out the contradiction with that
12:32 The director was mandated to retool the movie to take place in 2003 for the Peter Parker to be 14-15 by 2017 (meaning yes, the execs want this to be a prequel Tom Holland’s Spidey). And yes I said retooled because the movie was originally intended (and partially shot) to be set in the 90s, and thus take place in the TSAM Universe, making this a prequel to Andrew’s Spidey
13:54 They’ve now backtracked this and said Kraven would be “the last non-Venom movie”

Great points. Crazy how there’s logical reasoning to everything but Sony can’t help themselves but always backtrack and make things unnecessarily complicated for no reason

@@jfred14Dang, I apologise for all the typos and missing words but I’m glad you got through all of that and got what I was trying to say (sleep deprivation is not good for long comments, hehe)
All that being said, I believe (now more than ever) Sony is waiting out for the multiverse reset in *Secret Wars* for their next big move in regards to Spider-Man. Whether that means he’s removed from the MCU and placed into the SonyVerse, or the ‘SonyVerse’ becomes part of the MCU proper is up in the air (but if rumors are to be believed, then the latter seems to be the most likely

What happened to it? It was a terrible idea from the beginning.
