The shocks poking through the bed and their poor electronics quality (esc's die all the time) kills these FMS vehicles for me.
Never had a problem with any FMS electronics minus the terrible ESC (that is generic) on the FJ. I actually use their electronics on a lot of small builds. This is the best looking squarebody on the market at the moment. They are the only ones that haven't screwed up the front, lol.
At least a dash and steering wheel... A driver. Maybe
I think they are going for price point.
I'm massively disappointed in FMS! The blacked out windows cheaply trying to hide missing interior pieces they skimped on and the poorly designed shock mounts sticking up through the bed and the obviously incorrect portal axle design that looks nothing like the trucks real axles ruins everything that was so scale and realistic about the original model everyone loved so much. As soon as I saw they discontinued the good one I ordered myself the last one in stock from DixielandRC because they weren't price gouging the last of their stock like others. Now I have two red K10s and a Glacier and I certainly won't be buying the version with holes in the bed and blacked out glass masking a missing interior. In fact I now feel like I should buy the Magnum while I still can before they dump it like they did the K10 and the Mashigan.
So you need to understand the price point and CG. If they left the interior 1. The transmission would not fit, 2. The cost would increase, 3. the CG would be raised. Second, they are trying to use a chassis that the have developed that is outstanding for offroad use and they are trying to throw in a great body. Since they were going for performance over scale, something both you and I are clearly not into, they had to place the shocks the way that they are. I happen to like the early chassis that I showed in the video as the scale realism is superior but the market demands off road capabilities. We are in the minority and given how fast they sold out, they are going down the right path even if I would like to see better details over better performance. As for the portals, I am totally down for them. Portal axles at that scale are critical as they help increase ground clearance while while letting you run smaller tires, something I always do. They have two distinct lines, scale and performance. This is why we see the new K5 with a lexan body and no interior (like all the other brands) vs their other cars with detailed bodies and cheap chassis. All about price point.

I fully understand the CG and price point though, It sounds more like the big two speed transmission is the issue with the CG than a flimsy little piece of interior panel. Especially if its sitting so high up you can't even put a proper interior in it. Honestly the oversized wheels and low profile tires make more sense now. They are obviously a bandaid for the awful center of gravity created by having the transmission mounted inside the cab. I politely disagree about the shocks sticking through the bed too. There were at least a couple ways to avoid doing that but they chose the cheap way out. Hence your point about price point.
This truck is just a half hearted attempt at stuffing this body on top of this chassis and its a massive shame that the good version had to get discontinued for this thing. I didn't start buying trucks from FMS/EAZY because they cut corners on realism in favor of unrealistically overpowered performance. I started buying from them because they had the most detail and most accurate looks and performance. They are now driving off their customer base and discontinuing massively successful models in an attempt to appeal to others who should just stick with lexan.
Also portal axles are like cheating for small scale offroading, the hogs heads in my original FMS K10 offer roughly the same ground clearance in scale as the hogs heads in my 86 K5 Blazer IRL. Portal axles look nothing like the original axles and give you unrealistic clearance for a stock truck and make driving way too easy and therefore not fun. I wouldn't even be worried about all of this if they hadn't discontinued the good one.

@@wolfkingsigma2795 The original FMS K10 that had clear glass and a full interior with a floor and no shock holes in the bed has been discontinued. Look for older vids and pictures of the FMS K10 and you'll see what I mean.
Well done review! As always! I could tell by your video that it does have red running lights in back now. But are they brake lights? You might want to check the Comments in your FCX18 LC video. My red brake/running lights "hack" is gaining some traction among your viewers, as well as among my local friends. We wish that you would make that video of it. You could probably even do it as a Short...

I got mine today. The only thing I didn't like so far is the absurd size of the wheels. I have spare tires and wheels, and they will look way scale but, man, those wheels are comically big. Oh, well, also the tow hook hole is so out of place. They did a way better job with the LC80. I have spare hitches as well 😅

They make a full interior already. I made door panels but weirdly it doesnt look like I ever published that video. They interior can be picked up from FMS or FairRC websites.

Picked one up for my son! He loves it haha and so do I might just pick my self one too. But did end up breaking the driving gear rear differential it is plastic! Was a pain to locate new one but fms website is catch up on flaws but is a great first time RC
Yeah the site is getting better and better. They do offer a lot of upgrades so maybe a brass one is in order.
I would love to see a Hilux body on this new platform. Do you think the older fcx18 hilux body will fit easily?
Yes, given the K10 and Hilux were on the same platform initially, it should fit on this chassis but you will likely need to mod the bed the way the K10 is.

I have a K10. And it's more Trail than a crawler. I love the two speed transmission but it's too long for crawling.
Yes me too. I like the K10 more (not a fan of how high this is) but the K10 is annoying since it is too slow for a trail walk.
I upgraded the motor to the INJORA 180 Pro 48T Brushed High Torque Motor For FMS FCX24 FCX18. And 1.3 wheels. It buzzes along now!

Definitely needs smaller wheels. I’d find a wheel that would be scale 16-18” and that tire height looks good and would be close to scale 44’s.

I do like the stance, of course I do like the look of a truck on overly large, narrow tires. but it's definitely not for everyone of course. The full depth bed and the working tailgate is fantastic even with the cutouts in the floor. But something about the roof looks slightly odd...Almost like it is slightly too flat? Maybe a cab visor or a little roof rack would solve that. Of course honestly that is a fairly minor nitpick at this point, the rest of the truck is of such a standard that I find it does come down to little details like that. Minor stuff aside it seems to drive great, but it's got portals and a 2 speed so I'd be super confused if it didn't.
Decidedly another good release from FMS though! Plus more squarebodies is always a good thing.

yeah I hear you. Even the tail lights look a little odd, but it is really nitpicking. Its a solid looking truck and that FCX chassis is killer.
Try the smasher wheels on it buddy and give it the bogger look! And do like the camper look! 😁👌

This company nailed it with the gearing out of the box, everyone else needs to take note! Fms is more successful and growing because people are starting to understand this for crawling. Jmo😊

Absolutely agree with you on the height and wheels.. sort of the same with the FCX LC - to high and too wide track.
Do you think it would be possible to make wheels that fits over the portal hubs and gaining positive offset to tuck the wheels more under the body on the Toyota LC? I like the FCX platform, but the “original” looks waaaay better. Good review!
Sadly no. The portals are huge and while I did pull the ones on my LC in a bit, it was not nearly enough. The k10 doesnt seem to stick out much so thats good!

This one looks so much better than the fcx10. What is the top speed of this? Can it keep up with normal walking?
In second gear absolutely. Probably around 5 to 6 mph
In 2nd gear it will do a brisk walk so it is perfect. The FCX10 is positioned more like the TRX cars to have good looks but a killer chassis. I cant imagine the cost of a hard body FCX10!

Ive seen these overall layout on a lot of modern builds. Like I mentioned, its a preference thing.
