I have the TRX4 Defender from when it was 1st released. Still going strong. But I have upgraded the electronics over the years, a Holmes Hobbies BLS HV500v2, Revolver 1800KV, and 3 different ESC's. Castle Creations SW4, Mamba X, and now a Furitek Python. I also upgrade radios several times, currently on a NB4 w/8 channels, but considering another radio upgrade to 12. I have a GRC SMD 4 channel light kit installed (it too has minor display issues). I may need to add another to have more lights on additional channels (future interior seating and lighted dash w/interior lights). I only recently changed the spur gear and two mini servos. Everything else is still Traxxas even the beadlocks for my Canyon Trail tires. My other crawler is a Vaterra Ascender with the 2 speed transmission. No comparison in my book to the Defender other than being BIG!
So NO I will not be buying a Chinese Knockoff of questionable quality from a Country of Knockoffs. At this point my China Made purchases will be few. I have no choice in surface radios of high channel count that are not made in China. While Flysky meets my current needs, the software/firmware does occasionally have "glitches", but it could also be the cheap wires/extensions I have that are made in China. This is forcing me to consider buying a made in china wire harness building kit with made in china components. to custom build them myself, UGH!
I also have one of those (it is my 2020 bronco build) and it is solid. I recently lost the ESC and never gave the servo any luck lol. This FMS is also not a knock off as it is engineered top to bottom by FMS with zero parts compatible with traxxas. On top of that, Traxxas makes everything in China as well.
@@AMPROEngineering Wrong they are made in Taiwan. As for FMS, sorry but it is a knockoff. The electronics are crap imo. I'll never buy Hobbywing again. I've lost too much $ to use that crap again. Same reason I no longer trust/use spectrum radios.
The real K5 came with leaf springs. Idk, I like my rc4wd K5 with the optional D44 axles, metal drive shafts, leaf springs, and an interior.
Yeah this is not intended to be a scaler. it is targeting a whole different audience. I like leaf sprung trucks more as well.
And this is only $400
Front Drive and Front Dig are more for competition type crawling but I suppose any crawler can benefit from them. Dig locks the rear wheels so that the vehicle can pretty much drag itself around using the rear tires as the pivot. But sometimes you can get your rear tires in a pinch (imagine they are contacting the ground on their upper surface, essentially trying to pull the truck backwards as the fronts try to pull forwards, not likely in a full-bodied truck but yes it happens) or you just don't want the drive for whatever reason and you also don't want them to be locked. It's just another tool in the chest. If I were to guess I'd say the electronics are used in more than one model.
Bummer about the turn-signaling reverse lights. LOL. But being able to buy a TRX-ish truck without profiting the company which shall not be named=win. :)
I see what you mean about not wanting them locked...that would allow the diff to rotate in place. I did not think about that. As for not giving someone money, oh I agree.
After seeing this, I have to get one.

Have to see how it's priced in the UK but as the TRX4 is $600+ this is a real alternative! For ten years all crawlers looked like the SCX10 now they all look like the TRX4!
The TRX-4 was revolutionary when it came, nothing could beat it out of the box, not in my experience anyway. They really nailed it with locking/unlocking diffs and the high/low range transmission, it's still my go to trail RC.
They seem super competitively priced here so far.

As the owner of two TRX4s I can tell I will definitely be adding one of these to my trail rig collection.
Also,it's my understanding that the fwd acts as overdrive from other reviews I've seen.
Please tell me you are making tubular bumpers in the future so it will match my fcx24 K5!

I like this rig but it's in no way competitive with the Traxxas. Traxxas is simply a step above. Like Apple they do things their own way and if you don't like it there's lots of alternatives like this and if you do like it you have to be prepared to pay for it. i'm just glad RC crawling has come so far and there's so many options. I'm getting a real Colt Seaver vibe from this thing. for what I think is a high price they should include an interior though-this is a Chinese rig throughout and nothing wrong with that. As many others have said you get what you pay for, however. This would be a great first crawler.
No, i agree with you. They make a lot of super high detail trucks and I think they focused on what other MFG's do with a chassis of this amount of functionality vs cosmetics. The thing I like about FMS is it is a Chinese company with Chinese engineers who design, manufacture, test and market their own products, vs most others that just send it all to china for MFG. The cool thing is that FMS is easy to get a hold of for customer feedback and actually listen to their reviewers. WPL does the same thing. So refreshing to see quality improve over the years.
I don’t like the back of the cab, tge tail lights and the k5 blazer emblems are too high on the fenders. Other than that I do love it
The farther back on the body you go, the weirder it gets.....
The lights.. well you nailed it! - Check the functionality of the ports on the light module.. it can easily be done the “wrong” way at the assembly line. I’ve re-wired som of mine to “correct” just by testing and switching wires. Good review as always!
I see more and better craftsmanship in the TRX-4 though. Hopefully Traxxas will meet better on pricing, and maybe add a selectable drive gearbox. Competition does good for us customers😉 I’m not totally sold on the chassis, and I want a Toyota body or an European body style. Radio looks very good!
Hmmm....maybe it was not plugged in correctly.... The car really seems well put together!
And yeah, the DIG function is a bit meh on a scale truck. You mentioned it needed extra parts to have selectable 4WD/RWD?

Back watching again, well I got mine and I was so mad at first they sent me the brown and yellow one I was so mad everything says black my order even the email they sent me says black didn’t notice on the box said brown I just opened up yeah I was mad, emailed them they got with me quick, they would send me a return label and send me the black one, before then I found out you can buy the complete body kit so that’s what I do ordered the black body kit, now I won’t mind scratching the brown one all up. And just got done putting on the brass differential mechanism skid cover

Weird, the way the Chinese insist upon giving us red backup lights... Replugging them here is a little more straightforward than with the FCX18. Wonder why you chose to replug them into driving light plug rather than brake light plug? Panda Tetra24 has been using magnetic body mounts and electrical connections for years. Panda was first with many things and goes largely unrecognized...
I dont get that at all... I think I went over the FCX18 LC and changed it up. I went to driving lights as I would rather they be on at night (where I like to drive) vs during the day. I used to have a panda ford bronco, it was a pretty cool car.

I like the dig function but it would have been nice to have RWD too, as that would have been more fun and, needless to say, more in line with the real K5 Blazer.
Someone in another video mentioned that you could set the RWD but then you would lose the dig/FWD option. Didn't mention how to do that though.
Totally agree with you also on the rear lights. They just need to look at how real trucks work, it's not like rocket science... LOL
Yah, getting out and engaging the hub locks on the front wheels was for when you needed it….for crossing a stream or getting up a snowy gravel road.
I agree totally. The FWD is just a left over of the dig so I mean I get that, as useless as it is. Yes, you are correct, you can change that to RWD and lose the dig which I plan to do. I dont know how that is done just yet.
Like the original Tamiya Hilux/Blazer.

The body is way off compared to a TRX-4 79 Blazer. Cheaper though you get what you pay for.
