- Glacier Bay National Park is the visit in our very first Alaska cruise aboard Holland America's Koningsdam. It was a gorgeous day to view the glaciers. We traveled inside the bay and visited the Johns Hopkins Glacier, Margerie Glacier, Lamplugh Glacier and the Grand Pacific Glacier. Some of the best weather provided us with the opportunity to capture the day and share it with you.

Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is a stunning and ecologically diverse national park located in southeastern Alaska, United States. It is known for its dramatic landscapes, including tidewater glaciers, rugged mountains, lush rainforests, and abundant wildlife.
Glacier Bay National Park is situated in the Panhandle of Alaska, in the southeastern part of the state. It encompasses over 3.3 million acres of land and water.
The park is named after the numerous glaciers found within its boundaries. These glaciers include the Margerie Glacier, Grand Pacific Glacier, and others.
The waters of Glacier Bay are teeming with marine life, including humpback whales, orcas, sea otters, harbor seals, and a variety of seabirds. It's a popular destination for whale-watching and marine wildlife enthusiasts.
The park is also home to a wide range of land animals, including brown and black bears, mountain goats, moose, and more. Birdwatchers can enjoy observing over 200 species of birds that inhabit the area.
The Huna Tlingit people have a deep cultural connection to the region and its natural resources. Their ancestral lands overlap with the park, and they continue to maintain their cultural traditions and subsistence way of life.
Visitors to Glacier Bay can enjoy a variety of activities such as kayaking, camping, hiking, and taking boat tours to explore the glaciers and wildlife. There are designated visitor centers and park rangers who can provide information and assistance.
The park can be accessed by boat or by air, with the nearest town being Gustavus, Alaska. Most visitors reach the park by taking a cruise ship from nearby ports like Juneau or by flying into Gustavus.
Glacier Bay National Park is a place of immense natural beauty and ecological significance, attracting visitors from around the world who come to experience its breathtaking scenery and pristine wilderness. It offers a unique opportunity to witness the dynamic forces of nature and to appreciate the importance of conservation and protection of our natural heritage.

We went to Glacier Bay in July 2017. The glaciers were beautiful to see up close. Looks like a great trip.

I appreciate that you acknowledge the Indigenous people and their lands. Alaska is so beautiful. The glaciers are amazing. It is a bit scary they have receded so much. Thank you so much for the great comments. Rons final decision is still ahead but I will say if Ron can do it and enjoy it then I think you will love it. I knew what i needed to do so he could find peace and quiet when he wanted and just relax. The balcony gave us just that it was really wonderful especially in Alaska. The Spa package was also a wonderful place to go to when we wanted. I think with all vacations it has a lot to do what we make of it. Alaska brought me so much peace and joy like Hawaii! We love learning about other cultures and we appreciate everyone and the land very much! We look forward to seeing you cruise! We will actually watch for more cruise deals in Alaska and do another one in the next couple years. Thank you for the support!

The glaciers are incredible! Awesome you can view from your private balcony and avoid the crowds. Makes you wonder what those landscapes will look like in another 200 years. I have a friend in Juneau and am hoping to visit soon. The cruise looked comfortable too and good food. Great tour, thank you!

You really did it right wityva balcony for this one! I wish we had done it. I was so stunned seeing Glaicer Bay, at times it didn't look real. I like how the rangers come aboard, it's really a nice experience.
It honestly shocks me ever time I see footage of Margerie Glaicer, it has receded so much since we aaw it in 2017!

Yes this did at times not look real and it was really wonderful and relaxing. This was my favorite day on the trip and whenever we get Ranger time it is usually the best. I am glad Ron went into all the information about the glaciers because it does let us know to see what we can when we can and to appreciate it cause it wont ever be the same just like everything in life really! Stunning! 3.3 million acres, that's about the size of Death Valley NP, and bigger than our home state of CT! What great views of the Johns Hopkins Glacier as the ship turned. Looks like you had some good food too! It's always so impressive to watch the dancing shows when your on a cruise ship while the ship is moving up and down!

You guys were living the dream with that private balcony. Amazing that you could sit there and take in all those views. When we went on our cruise I had to go out extra early and claim deck chairs since we had an interior room 😆 It worked, but not as relaxing as your setup. You filmed beautiful footage of Glacier bay.
We are all about saving money and wouldn't mind an interior room at all. Since it was our first cruise, anniversary and because of it being Alaska and with glaciers and whales I had to get that room and so glad we did. I am so glad you enjoyed it and I think many of the colors of the water and the views that day showed through in the video. We appreciate your support and the comment. Wow these are two of our favorites. We love Hawaii very much for a while we were going every year and now that we have seen some of Alaska we will go back. You must go! Maui is our favorite but then Kauai was great and so was the Big island we have not been to Oahu saved it for last because it is big and has the whole city thing going on but we may go this coming year. Now we want to drive through Alaska or take our RV next time it was so beautiful. Thank you so much for joining us and commenting. I have been told that before but I am so bad! 😊 This was my most favorite day of the cruise and one of my top spots so far ever! This was so beautiful and just somewhat therapeutic I spent some of my time just sitting on my balcony and taking in the view and breathing the beautiful air. This was my favorite place in Alaska and day of the trip. I think the footage did well showing how amazing it was. Yes Ron doesn't like being cattled either i try to plan so he can enjoy so I can keep planning. If it gets rough we do some breathing or we have naptime.😊😂❤❤❤❤

Wow! The spectacular views! Such a great video -- I almost felt like I was there! You guys had great weather on this cruise too 😊. I like the idea of viewing Glacier Bay from my balcony, just to avoid the crowds. May we be so fortunate with the weather when it's our turn.
Yes the balcony was wonderful and at times felt like our own peaceful retreat especially on Glacier day. It was early July into the 2nd week and was wonderful we hardly needed coats and never needed umbrellas. Thank you so much for watching we appreciate yoir Comments. We are not full-timers but are planning to spend next winter in the U.S. (typical Canadian Snowbirds). It will be our first time spending more than a couple of months RVing. Thanks again!
Wow exciting!! We are not full time yet but webare practicing a lot.last two years we have camped around 50 nights and this year we should be able to do more. We bought another cruise make sure to take advantage of the deals around black Friday and as soon as u see the cruise u want book it when they have a special and a very small down payment and luckily you can spend a long time making payments on your dream cruise. Please keep watching we may do another Alaska Cruise if not in 2024 most likely 2025 when it's last minute on sale off season because we are on the coast we may take advantage but I can also see us going again no later the. 2026 so maybe we will see you. Until then hopefully we give u more ideas we are do a 9 night Caribbean next year so far. Thx again!
It is Heaven on Earth. The Glaciers are spectacular. The color of the water, the calmness, it is just wonderful. The view from the room was amazing. The warm Pea Soup looked delicious. This was a great sharing, Thank you and Enjoy ❤😊

HAhaha! Yes the wind started strong but I was determined. No nothing extra for the tea time and they have brunches and all kinds of stuff included it was wonderful! I am gonna have to go look at your cruise videos again I think they were some of the first videos I ever watched of yours and we are making our decision for next year soon! It sure would be fun to meet you on a cruise!!
@@justramblinaround yes we are still considering something in the Caribbean in Feb- ish. It would be so fun to do together. I know it makes it tough because west ports make sense for you while south ports are cheaper and easier for us to get to.
Really enjoying this series, as I'm doing this same cruise (on this same ship) next year. I'm curious... when you say you can hear the ranger speaking from your balcony, do you mean they pipe it in or that your room happens to be located in a place where the sound carries and you can hear him? I'm going to be in an aft-facing neptune suite (on the same deck as you, deck 5) and am kinda hoping they pipe in the sound! Thanks for these vids... really fun, and helpful!
Thank you so much for watching we are so glad you have enjoyed these videos. So you can listen to the ranger on your Television along with many other things that will help with your trip. You brought up a great question that we both are debating about we could hear him very clearly on our deck so we feel it was piped in but now we think maybe we could just hear it well from the main decks but it was quite clear. We also went to the crows next very early to see and hear the rangers a d then went back and forth to our room we Stat in the glacier area for a very log time it is nice. Your going to have a wonderful time I bought the excursion to go on a smaller boat into Tracy Fjords and so sad they cancelled it that would have been nice. Please stay in touch and let us know how it goes we may go again and enjoy at different times of the year and different ports. The people we met had the same suite as you and loved it!! Thank you for the support we are doing a different cruise on a different cruise line in a few months!!😊

That sounds so familiar we book things way in advance and by the time I go it's almost like I have already been on the trip!! Who knows maybe we will be joining u if it's a good deal at the time!! 😊
What time of year did you visit? I just booked September 6 through to September 13 th
We went the second week of July. September should be nice it may rain some but that can happen anytime and a little colder but the nice thing is it won't be during the busiest time of the year so nit as many people. Your going to love it! Thanks for watching we did several videos of our trip hope they help and don't hesitate if you have anymore questions. You are going to love it and you don't need a balcony room at all! You get great views from all over the ship and I am sure you saw you get soup on the bow. Also many places to sit and relax and get a great view and the jogging track or the walking track you can go all around the ship we even watched while having food in the restaurant. So glad you watched and don't hesitate if you have questions maybe we will see you we are talking about going againnin a year or two if we find a great deal!
