- We will show you how long it takes to board the Koningsdam from unloading the vehicle right up to entering on the gangway! On this embarkation day we drag you along as we explore the ship all day.
Right away, upon boarding the ship, we go right to guest services to make dinner reservations and upgrade our drink package. We originally had the "Have it All Package" and we switched to the "Elite Package." This went from 11 drinks per person to include coffee and water to 15 alcohol drinks per person with unlimited coffee and water. We more thank 11 coffee and waters each day and maxed out almost every day with the alcohol drinks. It was a solid win making that move.
We signed up for the Thermal Suite every day to enjoy and thermal pool, steam room, sauna and lounge. Massages are available for an upgraded fee.
We eat in the dining room for most of all our meals. Later videos will show the buffet style eating arrangements. In the main dining room, we are on the 2nd deck have our "dress-up" night meal there. Service was always spectacular.
We have drinks from most the bars, but we found the Tamarind Bar on deck 11 our favorite on account of the quiet atmosphere and wonderful company of Samson, Paul and JoBelle behind the bar.
We explore most of the ship and try to make it quick and painless as we know everyone's time is very precious.
During the evening we enjoy the Rollingstone Rock Room, B.B. King's Blues Lounge and Billboard's On Board, all showcasing the talent on the ship.

We love to check out breweries, restaurants, local hikes in the area as well as traveling away to see what other destinations have to show us. We take our dogs as much as we can, but some areas aren't made for our furry kiddos.
Not every video will be an award winner but all we need is someone to laugh and enjoy the ride along the way.

Wow - this is so much fun. I have never cruised and have often marveled at the cruise ships here at Canada Place. I like your suggestion to maybe start serving the drinks right there while you are checking in line 🤣🤣 Why not get everyone started in the right mood.
The room has a nice large closet and the work desk is cozy.
Loads of good advice in this video, where to book a room on ship, positioning on ship, food choices, things to do etc.
Time to unwind and enjoy. I'll be coming back to this vid when planning a cruise for sure!

Cute video. You two are a cute couple. Your husband should be an announcer with that booming voice. I have sailed out of Vancouver three times and its always fun. Next year my son and I are cruising out of Seattle, so we will see how that embarkation goes. On future videos can you let us know what your favorite drink(s) and food choices. The lobster looked delicious. IMO, HAL 's food selection and taste is up there. Of course its subjective. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Oh you are so sweet!! Ron has heard that a lot especially on several videos when he does narration. I am thinking maybe we can get him a part time job when he retires for extra traveling money. LOL! So not sure if you watched all the videos yet but we do talk about food and drinks throughout and in the wrap up. We actually give a little rating to some of the food. We were happy with the dining rooms and even the fast foods we do stop in at just about all of them. Drinks we loved the most was the quiet little bar at The Sushi place we share that in a couple videos it turned out our favorite or we just got lucky we were always alone and we had a drink package so trying new things was great. We put out a Seattle video and showed the port u may want to glance at it. I think it's perfect for anyone sailing out of Seattle you may like it. Hope your a Rambler we are showing another cruise in just a few months. Yes if your gonna do a cruise spend the extra on a balcony especially in Alaska. You will see more over the next few videos but when we arrive to Glacier Bay I was so happy we had a balcony! When we hear the word Alaska, what comes to mind is the beautiful scenery. We can find everything from national parks, glaciers, natural animal habitats, to Aurora sightings in Alaska.

Yes we looked at the average prices and also thinking of how many days at sea and new some sort of drink package is for us. After seeing if we upgraded we would have unlimited coffee and bottled (cans of water) we knew we needed the package and it was worth it. We show more about it later in the cruise. First we show all the gorgeous stops in Alaska it was amazing! Thank you so much again for the great support and commenting!

Hello Mick, I feel like cruises are the best for mobility and I think I remember several people with quite a variety of mobilities on the ship. I am going to go through some of our footage and look around again. I know in the ketchikan video you will see during orange Night a girl in a wheel chair on the dance floor she owned that dance floor all week. I also remember someone with a cane boarding before us at one of the ports and a few different people at times with walkers. I feel that's what's best about cruises they are very accommodating. I would call and ask a few questions about your concerns. I will look over the next few days at my footage but from what I remember I think you will be well taken care of and have a great time. Please keep us posted.

I will probably never do a Boast Cruise. The idea of being at sea and on a boat for any number of days would be like Sticking pins in my eyes. Nice views from you balcony. LoL!! I read that comment to Ron that's why it has taken me 30 years to get him to go and he would say the same thing. Verdict is still out. We were more worried about me I get closterphobic and I get anxiety and was worried if I would get see sick and it all worked out well. Ron does like to be in charge and likes driving to destinations so letting them take us was a bit difficult and worked out well. We will show more of this cruise and give more info and you can see what you think it was nice because we stopped at several destinations and got off the ship and explored and it was a very big ship with so much to do and we founding quiet places to relax. Hi Ron and Jodi, great work on this video! We have a soft spot beautiful Vancouver scenery and have enjoyed a few stays at the Pan Pacific hotel above the cruise ship terminal. It was great to follow you on every aspect of the cruise. We really enjoyed the layout of the video, timelines are such a great idea, from arrival to accommodations and play time. We almost stayed at the Pan it is very convenient I think that is the only hotel.in which they can come get your luggage and take it to the ship for you. We wanted to stay north closer to some hikes we wanted to do we thought for a few days but plans changed. The cruise was wonderful and would definitely recommend and so convenient to park our car and go. We can't wait to show the rest of rhe cruise and beautiful Alaska stops. We had the opposite experience with embarkation in Seattle. It was totally disorganized and it took a long time. In Vancouver, 14:01 14:01 it was smooth and fast.
We have had so many mixed responses from people comparing Seattle and Vancouver BC. I think it can really depending on how many ships are going out and how many passengers and who is in charge any given day. We plan on trying Seattle sometime over the next year or two and see for ourselves. We are trying Miami soon keep u posted. We've completed 5 cruises to date. Our favorite so far was 7 days to the ABC islands in the southern Caribbean. Amazing islands with spectacular nature and a unique Dutch Caribbean architecture. Highly recommend!

As someone who has been on 33 cruises, I am quite impressed how well you nailed your first one!! Good job on all the prep, it was really worth it! We spent 35 nights on the Kdam, and I recognized many crew... we loved the Panorama bar (Archie & Wannis & Lee). Enjoy!
Wow 33 cruises that sounds wonderful! Who is your favorite cruise lines and what are a couple of your favorite destinations? We are looking forward to many more. I am a huge planner and love researching I probably do it to much because no surprises to my vacation. Well I loved the cruise and verdict is still out for Ron. I try to get the less crowded and less noisy ones for him and I find the quiet little places to go having a balcony was a great decision. We will keep you posted on his final thoughts. This was a nice way to see some of Alaska quickly and it was so beautiful we can't wait to share it. We really enjoyed this entire cruise from Start to finish we will cruise Holland America again! We are doing another cruise in just abfew months out of Florida we are very excited 9 nights and we are trying Norwegian. We will be covering St Thomas, Martin and Puerto plata and Puerto Rico we have about 6 ports so excited! Looking forward to seeing yours we are looking for more ideas for 2025! We have been wanting to do an Alaska cruise from San Francisco but might be good starting from Vancouver too (spend a some time there too)
That is a great place in the sushi bar.
The thermal suite is awesome. Nice to have some windows in this one and great to try it day 1/2

We enjoyed the trip we picked Vancouver because we can enjoy Seattle anytime and the first stop would have been victoria Canada and we can also go visit that area anytime. We wanted more time in Alaska and Alaska Ports. The thermal suite was a great decision we will talk about that again later. We love finding quiet places and hidden gems thanks for noticing the sushi bar was great we went back every day and every day was great! Thank you Mike we can't wait to share Alaska as well! You have to make sure to give us heads up if and when you will every be out this way! We may possibly do California sometime between February and April! Thanks for the support Mike we appreciate you!

Looks like an awesome ship. Appreciate all your advice about how to book a room. Never really thought about how you don't want to the pool above you. I think the boarding process of just waiting in line to get on the ship is the worst part.

I have found Seattle a lot more organized than Vancouver , we have went out of Seattle 3 times, Vancouver 1 times, it took 3.5 hours to get onboard in Vancouver and 35-45 minutes in seattle
Good to know thanks for the information we have heard many mix reviews I think it can sure vary. We hadn't been to Vancouver in a very long time thats why we mainly went out of Vancouver but Seattle will be much easier for us and we plan on for sure testing it out soon. We do have a Seattle video coming out tomorrow from a visit we did for a few days which will help those who visit whether for a cruise or just a vacation to Seattle. We enjoyed the cruise and Alaska is so beautiful we can't wait to show all the stops and how beautiful Alaska was. I love that blouse surprisingly it has been about 10 years maybe more since I purchased it and I honestly think it was just a convenient store almost think maybe Fred Meyer/ kroger so long ago. Luckily I don't where it often so it has lasted well. Thanks for the wonderful comment that is very sweet of you! Thank you again for the support we actually hope to get back into Marathons. We use to do them a lot for a few years and love destination events. We have done Portland and Seattle marathon and enjoyed the Rock N Roll series we even went to Vegas for a half marathon. We one time did 2 marathons 6 days a part and became Marathon Maniacs. We had a goal of doing at least one Ultra. We lost our way after Covid and really need to get back into it at least the half marathons on a regular basis. Thank you again we appreciate the support!

So you were on a Holland America cruise which means you were the youngest ones on the cruise 😂. We did a HAL cruise to Mexico and that was the case for us. Loved the cruise though as it was tons of fun. Quick tip on the drink package. We went with the same drink package as you guys which included 15 drinks per person per day. It was a brilliant option on sail days when you were on the ship all day long. Not so much on excursion days and here's why... On excursion days you head off to a lovely time doing some fun thing and it inevitably involves drinking on the excursion. Then you get back to the boat and you still have 30 drinks between the two of you on your drink package. That then becomes a a challenge that you will accept, but your liver won't! I honestly think if you buy two or more drink packages they should come with a complementary liver transplant!
One of the highlights for us on the cruise was the live music, it appears it was a highlight for you guys as well. We also had a lot of fun with the staff. You got to know a few of them and it became like a little family for a few days. I hope you guys had the same experience. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your adventure as an Alaska cruise is something we've talked quite a bit about.
Actually we hung out with a nice couple younger then us by far but honestly I think we may have been close to average. I just couldn't make Rons first cruise full of big slides and kids running around screaming and crying we needed it to be more enjoyable for the old man! Now something funny Ron has a bunch of nicknames for me. I am a coupon queen and love a good deal I also value my money and make it go a long way. On port days we would get back and order a cocktail and a can of beer each time we drank the beers were some good quality beers meaning not Bud lights and they were actually the large cans. So if you can imagine our fridge was full of them and my cheesy ass had brought back about 20 plus of them back in my luggage and you will see we take them camping with us and our music festival a month after the cruise! LOL!!!! We love meeting and getting to know people we have done this for all of our adventures for 30 years we have met friends all across the country that we have still stayed in touch with. Also I love getting to know our servers and appreciate them a great deal. One of my favorite things in life is learning from others and trying to leave them better and happier people hopefully they don't forget me in a GOOD Way~!LOL~ I know I am an odd bird! We really enjoyed the cruise and fell in love with Alaska it is so gorgeous. Cant wait to share our ports and excursions! Still deciding on what we are doing next July we should meet up!

Everyone we have learned from recommends 2 days you may be OK with one but some people have said even with one day early they have come close to missing a cruise if your flight changes at all. Are you departing Vancouver Canada or Seattle Washington? We are doing a cruise out of Maimi and giving ourselves 2 days and may do the same in California. I'm excited to experience a Gala Night. Not sure I can get my husband to wear a tie. As soon as I saw Ron's attire, I said, "Well, there you go! You don't even have to wear a tie." Relief 😂. Good to see that they'll remove the lobster meat from the shell for you too. It's one of the reasons why I've avoided lobster with my steak. Great video! We're Canadian and we have a daughter on Vancouver Island, so this will be our port, and hopefully we can sneak in a little visit to the Island a few days beforehand. If you've never been to Vancouver Island, you should check that out at some point. It's a great place to visit! We live in Ontario, near Toronto, and I try to get there each and every year 😊 Thanks for a great video!
The galaxy night was fun and take a tie just in case but we saw many people without ties. We even though Ron always had to wear a collar to the restaurant and then we would see people in t-shirts and shorts but they may be more strict about sandels. We don't think they would turn people away if they look clean and they want to provide good service. We use to live right by the border so we would go to Vancouver often back in our college days and it was so easy to bounce back and forth. We will visit again and explore the islands more we want to do anvideo on Granville island as well. We also enjoyed Victoria and did a mini cruise to Friday harbor and the San Juan's which is nice. Fabulous video. I will be booking this tomorrow for our 50th anniversary. A co6of questions pls, what hotel did you overnight in in VCR? Also, how strict is the dress code on gala night ( I wore a suit for 33 years when working and prefer dress pants and an open neck shirt and no jacket). Finally, dollar for dollar was the drink package worth the upgrade? Do you recall what a drink cost if not on the package. Thanks. Btw, I just subscribed!
Thank you for all the questions. You are going to love this Happy 50th. We may cover a lot more questions you have in our review video. So many beers and wines and drinks are around 10 and the drink package is drinks under 15 so covers alot. We upgraded because we like to have waters by our bed and in our fridge and we drink a lot of coffee so it was nice getting good coffee whenever we wanted at the Cafe and coffee bar. Now u get up to 15 drinks a day I am a bargain person so I made sure we got them sometimes we would order cans and bottles and go put them in our fridge I asked them to empty our fridge and take out the stuff they would charge us for so we wouldn't accidentally drink one. We added beers and waters and drink to the fridge. We can drink 15 drinks on a sea day cause maybe we have a bloody mary or two in the morning and a drink or two with lunch then dinner then during the piano bar then during another bar or two so u get the point a long day no problem on a port day we would get a few cans before we left the ship and put it in the fridge and a few at night so we had drinks to enjoy on our balcony or in our room. Yes we had left overs and yes it's cheesy but I put them in a bag and took them to our hotel after the cruise. We stayed at the holiday Inn north and we have a video on that it was 20 minutes from Port but in a quiet area go see what we did in Vancouver if interested. Also the dress code was silly the first two days I made Ron dress up a bit and we looked around and many people would just be wearing nice collard shirt many people Hawaiian shirts no jackets and some in. Nice shorts. I don't think they are that strict I think k they want to give u good service but just in case take one jacket one tie but honestly we saw such a variety. They may strict on no sandles in dining room but they were more relaxed then we imagined. Please don't hesitate with more questions and we have about 6 videos on this trip hope it helps and 24 hours in Vancouver Canada. Have a wonderful time!
I did the same itinerary on the same ship last year. Looks like it took you about the same time to get through check-in/security/customs and on to the ship as it did me. Vancouver really needs a bigger cruise terminal like the ones at Miami and Port Everglades in Florida. It can't handle the crowds from multiple ships the size of the Koningsdam at once.

Canada Place's embarkation procedure is a mess compared to other ports like Seattle and San Diego. We checked in to the kiosk with a port agent assisting us, she then pointed where the exit to the immigration was. Along the way there, we passed numerous agents just standing there not really doing much. When we arrived at immigration, we were asked to show the orange strip. Long story short, we had to go back to check in and get the strip. So many agents standing around doing nothing, instead, they could have been ensuring that we had everything needed to enter immigration.
Oh my so sorry for your experience. Funny thing is I watched several videos and talked to several people about Seattle and they had all had bad experiences in Seattle and preferred Vancouver. They had luggage issues and nobody was helping them and they complained about parking. We were greeted in Vancouver by many employees and told where to go all the way and some were funny and telling jokes and greeting us. We are closer to Seattle and it would be easier we also went with Vancouver cause it has been 25 years since we have been in Vancouver and wanted to visit but we will do Seattle next and compare for sure thanks for letting us know. Hi new subscribers here. Can you tell me a little more about how you upgraded your drink package.
Hello thank you so much for supporting us. I will go over this in a final video in a few weeks or a follow up and we do put a lot in our descriptions as well but Thanks for asking and please feel free to always message us or email us with questions. So I called Holland America many times before ever leaving. We orginally signed up with the have it all package. They told me we could upgrade to rhe elite which would be about 11 dollars per person per day. That would make it so coffee. Water and other drinks were no longer part of our 15 drinks they would be unlimited and our 15 drinks would be alcohol drinks and they would go up to 15 a drink instead of 11 if we wanted better quality. Now many people don't thinknits worth it cause yes beers are less and drinks are not that expensive but those cans of water are like 5 a piece and of course special coffee the same. We like have waters in our room during the day and at night or in morning we knew we needed this. Now to take full advantage your allowed to order 2 drinks at a time so we always got a can of water when we ordered drinks and I asked our people that cleaned our room to empty our fridge and I stocked it full of waters. Also they have a couple cafes on board so it was nice getting special coffee whenever. As far as 15 alcohol drinks on a day at see if yiu like having a mimosa or bloody mary the in morning then a drink or two by the pool or with lunch or dinner then a drink or two at the shows it is actually easy to hit close to 15. But we realized that when you can have 2 drinks at a time we would also order a can or bottle of beer or other drink on excursion mornings and go put it back in our fridge. Sounds cheesy but our package was for 15 drinks a day and so depending on what your doing after your cruise we did have some left over we put in a bag and took to our hotel. Fyi it was worth it for us and we weren't stressed about any big bill at the end. Oh I took care of this within minutes of boarding we went and signed up for dinner went to the bar and said we wanted to upgrade our drink package and went to front desk and took.care of all of this when we boarded.

We wanted the same thing - water in the room throughout the night. I don’t know about you but I can down some water at night. It just eat into our 15 drinks. When I called I got several conflicting stories on how to go about getting upgraded. Your info seemed to have been the most current info on TH-cam. You addressed every question I had. This is so wonderful to hear. This is why we started the channel and now we finally see it working. We have to have waters by our bed and I would put a few cans in my bag for excursions. We have 2 to 3 more videos of this trip coming out and a wrap up. We are deciding on next year's cruise do you prefer Holland America recommend any other cruise lines and any trips we are thinking of leaving California through Mexico or leave Florida through St Thomas, St Martin and other areas. This was early July it was very gorgeous weather we were never rained on not once. The only negative is not as much wildlife and not as much snow especially when on our train ride which can be more exciting. Pros and cons for each month when cruising and visiting Alaska.
