I understand how you feel. My husband and I go with Holland America , “Noordam”. Our time is from Dec. 22 to Jan 4. This ship is at Singapore. We are flying in early to Singapore. This will be our first time to Singapore. The ship will be stopping in Thailand, Cambodia. and Vietnam. We were wondering the age group would be around our age, we are 74 and 72 years old. We thought this was a better cruise cause we will be in Thailand. We will be spending time around Christmas with our son and his wife. We went to Thailand 2 yrs ago. Thailand is very pretty. We had our son and wife showed us around Thailand. We had a great time. I don’t know what my son has planned for us this time. We will be in Thailand for 2 days. Plus I think there will be a lot of Asia people on this time. That will be ok with us. Thank you for your input about Holland America.
We have two teens and we've done 3 Hals, with trepidation before the first one. So glad we tried them. We really like Hal and Princess (Celebrity too but I only did one, on their oldest ship). One of our Hals was over Christmas, out of FLL, lots of families on board. Dive-in is one of our favorite fast-food places at sea.
Love it that you love to visit Alaska so often. We love it there too and are booked for our fifth cruise- 10 nights) to Alaska next year. We always travel there either in May or September (no children, no mosquitos and always great weather) 😊

Don't be upset but I selected HAL because I wish to sail with older and mature adults and not with children or the over partiers 20 somethings I'm retired and my kids are way gone.
Did you feel like you made a good choice staying in an inside cabin? It's a whopping difference of $2560 for the cruise I'm looking at on the Koningsdam in May 2026... That is a significant difference just to have a balcony!
Having a balcony is nice, especially if it's not raining. However, $2,500 is also a lot of money that you could spend on excursions or another Cruise. If it's a once in a lifetime experience for you then it might be worth the upgrade.

Was there one cruise or cruise line you preferred over the other? Looking to go to Alaska in July on a Southbound cruise and leaning towards the Nieuw Amsterdam on HAL. Glad you've enjoyed the videos! I would say Princess and Holland America would be the most similar. Norwegian had a lot more families and things like waterslides and Go karts. We've always had a fun time no matter who we sail with. A little quieter and relaxing experience on Princess and Holland.
That wasn't our experience, we could use it on the ship to see the itinerary of the day, book excursions and use the chat function. All without buying the wifi package.We were in Airplane mode with wifi on.
This is directly from Holland America's website. "Jeans without holes, tears or embroidery are welcome on most evenings in all restaurants, but on Dressy Nights jeans are only allowed in the casual dining restaurants."
Thank you for this very informative video. One question thought, you mentioned your room was under the Lido buffet? Was wondering about noise from deck above? Or was it pretty queit?
We didn't really hear any noise from up above in the buffet. However, being an inside cabin behind the wall on the same deck was a staff work area. We could clearly hear clinking and clanging from back there.
We just came back from our Alaska cruise and I made the mistake selecting a cabin that was located directly under the Rollingstone music venue. My wife wasn’t too pleased on those nights she wanted to go to sleep earlier (10:45). Live and learn. Our ages are 55 and 53 and we really enjoyed our cruise. Not partiers so this Koningsdam cruise worked well for us.

Yes we love sailing to Alaska. It's easy for us because we don't have to fly to Seattle or Vancouver. Hope you have a great trip!

The Navigator App is useless on the ship unless you've bought wi-fi, otherwise you have to use the paper copy which doesn't have as much detail.

Excursions are SOOOOOO overpriced. Always remember you can book the exact same things MUCH cheaper once you get to port directly by tour operators.
We will commonly book our tours off the ship. However this time we had some onboard credit. We wanted to spend.
