    Daenerys. A lady of her people, like Rhaenys. A conquerer like Aegon. A dabbler in sorcery, like Visenya.
    She truly is her House reborn.

    Dany is definitely special, she survived the dragon-hatching ceremony, she could probably survive dragon-binder blowing. However it has been pointed out earlier, by Maester Aemon, that the Valyrian language is gender-neutral, so in translation to the Common Tongue 'No man' could have actually meant 'No person'. So I don't know if Dany being a woman might actually be of consequence. Then again, there *could* be a curse on it that kills men but spares women, that sort of thing happens in mythology.

      I actually don’t think it’s of consequence, just a literary nod to Eowyn. She will survive because she’s magical.

      It was years ago, but it was around the time that the oil industry, and related industries, were changing MSDS (material safety data sheet) to SDS (safety data sheet). The reason we were given, is that some Languages like German (it was the example he gave) has no word for material. So I concede your point that you're making.
      However I find it odd, that the valyrians had no words to describe two different genders. It's thousands of years old, and Languages are ever changing, with each generation, and migration. For example the closest equivalent to old norse, is Icelandic. Russian and Ukrainian are very similar and different. Not to forget American English versus England English, and the subsequent meaning of words change over the years, let's not forget about the words, "there, their, they're". Take molestation, a similar word to harass, to bother, but now is used almost exclusively in regards to child predation, of the sexual kind.
      It could be that Aemon was right, about how it is used most recently, and he could be ignorant to towards and phrases used way before him. Considering the freehold was utterly destroyed, along with all text they had, from what we are told at least. I can't imagine the citadel having tons of writing from there, in good enough condition to handle at least. Remember what Sam said about many of the older books.

      @@schmalzilla1985 there are many real world languages that are gender neutral and rely on inference so it’s not all that odd. i feel like this also makes sense in regards to Valyrian society likely having been more equal as any gender can ride dragons or wield magic

      High Valyrian is gender-neutral but still has words for men and women. "Vala" is the word for man and "abra" for woman. There is a word "daorys" which means no one, but "dore vala" which means no man is also a valid expression ("no one" and "no man" don't necessarily have the same meaning)

It's clearly indicated that the ancient weapons from the barrow were enchanted to damage the Witch King (and his forces) who later became the head ring wraith and that Eowyn wouldn't have been able to damage him without this magic injuring him.

    Dragonbinder possibly summoning a meteor impact makes me wonder about Valyria. If Dragonbinder is the only one of its kind, and it's supposed to control dragons, perhaps during the political struggles within Valyria, somebody managed to seize the horn, hoping to use it to control everyone else's dragons and effectively become emperor/empress. Instead, the horn called down a meteor, which caused a gigantic earthquake, which then caused the Fourteen Flames to erupt, destroying the entire peninsula.

      I’ve had that thought too, Jon found the package of obsidian blades with a horn that wasn’t elaborated on much that I believe was the horn of winter. If he is reborn as an other, which would fully make since, he would have to blow it to cross the wall. Since it would allow the others into the realm, I don’t know what would drive him to do so other than anger from the brothers that killed him, or maybe to prevent the very possible ending of the night’s watch/free folk peace, whatever his notion I fully expect that both horns will be sounded in WoW… if it ever gets completed.

    A parallel of Azor Ahai symbolism is the burning heart. Symbolic AA Stannis takes it as his sigil, Nissa Nissa’s heart is burned by the heat forged sword, and Euron’s hornblower’s heart is also burned, though the text omits the word heart to make this less obvious. A further link that demonstrates your point. Great video LML.

    Victarion's description of the horn is so phallic, I chuckle every time I hear it. I can't help but love how candid he is as a character. There's a naive innocence to Vic that you can't help but find endearing.
    Also, the season 8 khal burning scene may be a place-filler for Dany blowing the horn.
    also, also: it's refreshing to see a good case for Mance's horn being real.

    That last line "the night came alive with the music of dragons", or said slightly differently "the night and the dragons come alive at the same time", makes me think that the others awoke with the birth of Dany and Jon, and that perhaps in reflection, they all need to die simultaneously for the threat of the others to be overcome.

Maybe in the final battle, the Horn Of Winter and Dragonbinder will be blown at the same time, creating a literal song of ice and fire? Then the powers of ice and fire will clash and perhaps cancel eachother out or form a homeostasis

    Why did the Valyrians even need a dragonbinder? The Targs in Westeros didn't need them so seems strange that now there is a horn that can bind dragons to anyone's will. Would have thought that Valyrians would not want this artifact to exist for fear that anyone could master the dragons.

      @@jschoma11 Someone on a random video's comment section made a very interesting argument for that. She was talking about genetics, and that the Targs dragons eventually withered and died out after several generations of inbreeding. Their genetic "pool", so to speak, had gotten too small after leaving Valyria and only having a small circle of other dragons to breed with, they suffered the same genetic maledictions that prolonged inbreeding often causes. I thought it was a great explanation for the dragons getting smaller and weaker and eventually dying out. Dany's dragons are from a time where their genetic pool was larger (and the stock healthier). Who knows? I wish I could remember the writers' name, because it's a very intriguing argument.

      It occurred to me that these horns could have been originally used in hatching dragon eggs. I think that, as you mentioned, miris scream draws undeniable parallels with what we are told with the sound of the horn when blown. I just really think Vic needs to blow the horn to die in an attempt at one upping Euron, plus it would end a POV & probably send a dragon west. It would be cool if Tyrion lied to Dany afterwards to get her to blow it thinking she would die too but since she's Dany it fully unlocks her Targ/Dragon blood bond and accidentally starts another long night. Idk maybe the reverse with Marwyn lying to her about the horn, and Tyrion just takes advantage of the lie enough to sell him out later. I think Marwyn and Tyrion are going to be rivals because of how similar they are lol I do see your points about horn blowing Dany though and I think they hold water if not for the scene your imagining, then for another down the line that would make just as much sense.
    EDIT:
    Okay so if Dany blew the horn AFTER Vic she would be the third person to blow it. Three horn blows bring the others, the long night!

    You always doing great job professor David Lightbringer ❤️ It make so much sense for Daenerys to blow the horn. Maybe Quaithe is trying to lead her to Ashai even with a glass candle to learn about her powers and also the horn. Or the horn is a part of Dany remembering who she is.

    Do you think that Dragonbinder and the Horn of Winter might be blown simultaneously? Thus, they would cause the new Long Night together. This would proof that AA is good and evil (the ever-lasting fight in our hearts) because AA could have caused the Long night intentionally and unintentionally because AA is actually not a single person in our story. This story would once again continue be painstakingly ambigious (GRRM seems to have a fable for that).

    Hey, I've been following you since last year and after watching all your videos (multiple times) and also after this yet another great video I wanted to show you my appreciation of your work.
    More than that I also wanted to thank you for helping me through some hard times, listening to your videos is always a blast.
    While I'm at it, I am going to add a comment I never finished on other videos because it turns out I also had adhd all along (which was the main reason I was in trouble...) : On the Westeros and/or Dawnbringer Dragonlord of ashai's videos I believe you missed a small clue that Martin might have left while talking about the Hightowers being an old Empire of the Dawn family. If I remember correctly you mention Elissa Farman that did the exact inverse travel than what the Empire of the Dawn would have done if they indeed came to Westeros, but you did not add something that you mentioned in an other video that for me is also a clue that add to the point : the other two ship's captains and one of the very few family name mentionned in this endeavor are Hightowers, and while one of those two ships disapeared the other came back to Westeros.
    Anyway, I love your videos, thanks again!

      she's a cat with burning red eyes, just like the swords Oathkeeper and Widow's Wail, but really it all goes back to weirwood symbolism... Nissa Nissa was a cotf - they have cat eyes and thus cat symbolism - and went into the weirwood trees, so the Nissa Nissa analog characters have cat symbolism and bloody eye and mouth and hand weirwood symbolism. Check out the Weirwood Goddess series, I'm summarizing a long theory here

    Hey! I know I'm a little late to the party, and I don't know if anyone already put forward this.
    But after watching this video I found myself thinking in the night's watch custom of sounding their horns. Once for Rangers returning, twice for wildings attacking and thrice for the Others. Maybe the magic horns have to be sounded three times to take affect. And the night's watch custom is a corrupted tradition from this knowledge.
    Euron's man sounded dragonbinder the first time (maybe in 400 years, maybe ever), Victarion's three rowers will sound it for a second time (the sound last long and lingers so three men could sound it "one time" imo; maybe the first one dies and the other two cower and never get to try) so that would make Daenerys the third in doing so and unleashing the full power of the horn.
    I don't know, that was my train of thought and wanted to share

    • @DavidLightbringer
      @DavidLightbringer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that could be how it works, for sure. One thing, it was actually blown 3 times at the moot, which people have picked up on as a parallel to three blasts for the Others. I think the Horn of Winter may have called the Others, just as dragonbinder calls dragons

    • @lolsous
      @lolsous 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is never said that (High) Valyrian is gender neutral (I think), but that the noun that translates prince/princess is gender neutral. I see it unlikely that Dany dies from blowing the horn, there is no foreshadowing of that and Martin seems to foreshadow all important events

      @@altundasbatu I have seen that most people assume that Val (singular man) is gender neutral, and would perhaps more accurately be translated to people. It's possible that miris blood and scream worked as a stand in for a dragon horn and allowed dragons to return to Planetos.

    Though the 'mortal' might also refer to Victarion being able to blow it - I don't think he will, even he is not that stupid. But I always took the chapter where Moqorro heals his hand as some sort of rebirth or even near-death-experience (because of the weird style it is written in), meaning he was resurrected... and what is dead may never die.
    But then again, I can't see Victarion playing some important role in anything, actually I can't even see him surviving much longer.

    Daenerys blowing the horn doesn't make much sense, because the horn appears to be obviously evil and most likely made for the purpose of controlling people like slaves. Even if it merely controlled dragons, does it make any sense for her to make her dragons into slaves, to go from mother of dragons to master of dragons? If so that would be a very dark path to go down.

    • @DavidLightbringer
      @DavidLightbringer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well of course we don’t know exactly what it does for sure yet, although all the things you mentioned our distinct possibilities. That’s why I raised the possibility of your on tricking her somehow, or perhaps Moqorro. In the event that it does exert some amount of control over dragons, we don’t necessarily know how that works or how obviously evil it would be. It’s not exactly evil for kennel masters to use dog whistles to train their dogs right? All I am saying is that I could see her giving it a try if she’s really having trouble controlling the dragons, let’s say they are flying around Meereen and killing indiscriminately. She may try to blow the horn to stop the madness. I’m not sure how Martin will handle this, but I usually start by identifying the symbolism and then asking myself how we can play out and makes sense in the plot, and in this case, the Hornblower symbolism for Dany seems pretty strong, and I’m also wondering about the parallel to Nissa Nissa’s scream that supposedly broke the moon

    It is interesting to think that Daenerys begrudgingly killed her spouse, who she loved dearly, as azor ahai killed nissa Nissa. And that from his funeral pyre, dany caused dragons to be reborn, as the death of nissa nissa resulted in the birth of dragons originally. And that dragonfire could be referred to metaphorically as a red sword or sword of fire, which is how lightbringer is described. Also dragonfire is probably gonna be a big part of defeating the others, as lightbringer allowed azor ahai to save the world from an unending night.
