TIP FOR 2022. START using a retinol and STOP looking in the mirror every second EXPECTING overnight results. 2 years in and my skin texture is as smooth as butter.
Don’t look in the mirror take good well lit photos and look at them in 3 months and wow will you see a difference. I am 54 and started this journey at 52 the morning before I started took pictures and even just using .004 Tretinoin from Curology for 30 days saw remarkable difference. Now up to .07% and it is amazing to look back at the 1st pictures and compare every 3 months
@@i.c.4095 Hi there I started off with differin gel over the counter for one year. Now I’m on 0.025% prescription strength. Also sunscreen EVERYDAY regardless of whether you are indoors or outdoors. Start off slow. No need to rush it will take its course and work. Allow the shit phase to happen. It will subside. Remain positive and just think of the great things that will come with it.
Best thing she said “don’t go to the internet and ask bunch of influencers on what you should do”. 😅. 💯 agreed. Everybody on social media is a skin care expert all of a sudden 🤔
1.Gotta use it a long time. 2.use more moisturizer. 3.Use consistently. 4.hyperpigmention needs more time to reduce.5. Big pores need more time.6.Acne is gonna get a bit worse then clear.7. Looking oily? Get a gel form of the retinol.8.Retinoids help reduce of sun damage.9.The better product is prescription form.10. If you have stubborn acne u may need additional prescription meds.
I remember when I was 3-4 months in using tretinoin, I really really wanted to give up, I was so sad about my dry, flaky skin, when I smiled I had fine lines around my eyes which I neved had before... my skin looked so much worse than before. Now at year 3, I am so so so glad I didn't give up🙂
Omg this comment saved my worries. I just started back up on tret. I stopped for many years bc of having a baby and bf. So I'm seeing fine lines I didn't see last month. So I'm hoping this is just temporary. 36 female.
I used to apply retinol right after cleansing my skin but even after 1.5 - 2 years later, my skin was painfully red and burning all the time. I changed the routine and started to apply ALL my skin care products first (serums, lotion, etc) then retinol as my LAST STEP, and now, I am enjoying the anti aging benefits of retinol without the burn and unsightly peelings.
You should do the sandwich method. Do what you have been doing then moisturize, retinol and moisturize again. Really helped me with dryness. And I don’t use retinol daily.
@Jojo Moa i have oily skin Started using tre 0.025 since 2 months only to reduce open pores instead got many as within few min of tretenion application my skin is becoming too oily tried with many moisturizers cerave simple excela aveeno skin relief cetaphil lotion dot and key probably i should find a gel kind of moisturizer at the same time moisturising enough... Guilt of too much should have been happier with lesser open pores dont know will tre recorrect it or not
After years of using tretinoin, I still don’t use it daily. Probably every other day in warmer months and every third day in winter . At 56, I get a lot of compliments on my skin, so I guess it’s working :)
I find that the older I get, the more consistent my skin care routine. At 30 I was sporadic. I didn't get any lines and wrinkles until it hit 52, and it really made me find ways to be VERY consistent with my skin care and I've seen a big difference in the results to my skin. Even if one is tired, set alarms and reminders if you need to, but be consistent and don't skip nights and days no matter what... I've had results from lower strength retinols, so I am gradually upping my strengths. I know results will take a lot of time, so I keep a journal with photos. To be honest, without that journal, I wouldn't really know how much better my skin actually has become. Great video Dr. Dray
Yes!! Consistency is key! I turned 60 last September so I was one of the kids at the beach baking in baby oil, we just didn't know how bad it was for us!! In my 20s I had cystic acne which left very minimal scarring. Luckily I don't have any damage or skin cancer from the sun. I have tiny lines for crow feet and smile lines but other than that my skin is in great shape because I'm consistent with my skincare. Keeping a journal is a great idea!!
My dermatologist told me that, for aging purposes, the Tretinoin 0.01% is better that the Tretonin 0.1%. The higher dose just gives you more irritation. She said consistency is the key and at one year out you can’t tell who used what. Having said that, over the counter retinols will be just as useful as prescription the longer you use it
I think a big reason why people think any particular product or ingredient isn’t working is because they’re not tracking their progress in a more objective way. I never took before/after photos until I started tret with Curology, and WOW did I see a difference after a few months. But I didn’t really see that difference in the mirror, only in the pictures. When changes are gradual, you just don’t see them as easily unless you can compare the before and after side by side.
Honestly vitamin A derivatives have been THE best thing I've done to my routine in terms of anti-aging. Tretinoin for my face, Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair for my neck. You have to get through the retinization process, don't give up! Moisturize constantly!
These are common concerns from our teen patients when using tretinoin, and I thank you so much for the very thorough explanation how to answer each of them. Sending this out to our whole pediatric group! You're amazing.
@abartha2010 hi Can you please elaborate she told for tretinoin causing the skin tone to get darker. My skin tone has gotten 2 tone darker since I’ve started using tretinoin.. I am a brown person.
People generally want "now" results, whatever the active. I'm 49. Thanks to my longtime dermatologist who taught me patience and consistency my skin is healthier than in my 30s. Wouldn't change my healthy skin for any "wonder" instant results serum, active, high percentage of anything. Thank you for educating people on that!
My 40 year old skin was so used to AHA/BHA that it was just a simple two week adjustment when I started retinol. I stopped all other resurfacing and used only retinol. I had some purging and some slight redness and tightness on my cheeks but with adding a heavier moisturizer cream that is focused on barrier health and incorporating a cleansing balm I was set to go! Don’t give up ladies and gentlemen retinol is amazing stuff and it was definitely the one thing that was missing from my regime. Consistency is key with skin care
Early in 2021 I was going through the worst, sudden spout of acne in my entire life at 23 and for months I convinced myself that NOTHING was or is ever going to work. It’s been a little less than a year and I’m so glad I made video diaries on my phone of my skin progress because whenever I feel like my skin isn’t getting better or my products aren’t working, I look at them to see where my skin was months ago and it makes me calm down. Patience is a virtue.
So helpful Dr Dray. I’m two years into the retinoid journey and have only just started the 0.1% tretinoin dosage. I started with Paula’s Choice 1% retinol, then OTC generic adapalene, then 0.025% tretinoin, then 0.05% tretinoin, and lastly 0.1% tretinoin . Several months at each stage. This is a marathon, not a sprint!
How often do you apply Tretinoin ? I use a 0.1 strength 3 times a week. I’am wondering if I should do it everyday to to better and faster results. It can be very drying tho.
@@joelfelix3914 I use it about 5x per week and have the prescription cream version from Costco pharmacy, which I find pretty moisturizing. I think increasing the dosage and frequency very gradually over a long period of time is key. I do also use moisturizer over the tretinoin in the winter months.
@@MyMaria1224 I use tretinoin about 5 nights a week. I use either Differin Restorative Night Moisturizer or Paula's Choice Omega+ Complex moisturizer over the top...they're both very nourishing.
Thanks Dr dray I was so scared that tretinion was causing me to age faster I'm so glad you said that because my wrinkles are the only reason in using this treatment
I've been using Retinol for two years strike with Cerave Moist, and be consistent with sunscreen too, and it works. 32 years old with no wrinkle, well I do have one line because I have dark circle eyes. Other than that I'm glad I found this channel two years ago. Lifesaver!!!
Thank you Dr. Dray! For the last 12 months I have been using tretinoin on a nightly basis over my night cream & have noticed major improvements to my skin. I am now 43. My forehead lines have diminished, my laugh lines are now non existant & my undereye wrinkles significantly reduced. I apply a small amount of vaceline around my eyes prior to applying tretinoin & enough still penetrates the area without the dreadful dryness. First thing in the morning prior to washing my face I also apply a few drops of Argan oil to my face & softly massage in circular motions & it removes any flaky/dry skin without having to mechanically exfoliate. Every second day I do use a chemical exfoliating, Glycolic acid & the dryness is kept at bay. It has been a trial & error journey for me but I've reached that sweet spot. For anyone on the journey struggling with dryness & flakiness, I can assure you, it will improve, stay with it, it's just finding what works for you.
Is your tretinoin prescription ? I would like to be able to try that. Right now I’m using La Roche-Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1% now up to three times a week at night. I hope to get to a daily PM routine . I’m taking it slow .
@@akhiker01 I started, twice/week & worked my way up to every night. The quantity also makes a big difference on the tolerance. You really only need a small amount to see results & a reduction in dryness allowing you to be able to use it more regularly. I use also use it on my neck & have had no reaction. Yes mine is prescription. I live in Europe & luckily the price is very reasonable for generic tretinoin, €3.50 for 30ml compared to the astronomical prices in some parts of the world. Good luck
In the last few months, since starting acid washes and Differin, I've noticed more obvious pores. However, I think it's because my skin and pores are cleaner, hence more obvious. Now, some of my older, thick skin has now begun sluffing off. The skin and pores underneath looks so much better. Thanks for your encouragement to continue!
Hey dwohio ,I have just started using tretenoin 0.5 percent .I use it on Fridays and Tuesday. Almost 3 weeks now that I have started .I am glad that I didn,t experience any purging uptill now but I think my pores have gotten bigger.i never had issue with pores before .and I don,t want them whatsoever .I kinda want to quit but knowing how beneficial it is long term I want somebody to encourage me to continue its use especially someone that has faced the same problem like me...
I am 64 years old and I started using full strength prescription Retin A when I was 34. I had sun damage and I was concerned about the fine lines. Now at my age, I do not have a single line or wrinkle anywhere on my entire face. The dermatologist said I have the skin of a 15 year old.
I am 34 now and just started using Retin A (been using sunscreen religiously for some months now but normally I just avoid the sun anyway). I thought I might be little late.. You are giving me hope! :) (Not that I had any bad skin issues or major signs of aging by the age of 34.)
@@Lexis001 I am 34 too and just started 3 weeks ago. My skin is already in great condition and hoping to just keep it there long term! My skin seems to be tolerating it well so far
Dr. Dray looks glowy 😊and healthy in this video. I don't typically like to comment on appearance but this time decided to comment because on the surface she looks like she's thriving more at this time in her life than In her other videos-really stood out.
I started using retinol, 0.5% from SkinCeuticals, a week ago. A lot of skin irritation especially around the chin, mouth, and nose area. 😢 Today, I reapplied the retinol for the second time. After, applying it, I cut fresh aloe vera and smeared it all over my face to act as a natural moisturizer. My face feels great and def loves it. Hardly NO irritation. Do try!
This video was really helpful. I'm only able to tolerate Tretinoin 3 days a week, and haven't noticed much difference in the 2 yrs I've been using it, but I'll keep the faith and continue my usage. Hooe 3 days a week is enough.
I stopped tret 0.05 a year ago because it made my eye wrinkles worse and some online 'expert' said to stop and let my skin heal, and it stayed sensitised until recently. I wish I'd kept going, I'll get back onto it but kaybe just 0.025. Thank you Dr Dray!
Very informative! I’m in camp “I don’t see any difference” (using it for anti-aging). I’ve been using it for a year but will keep on doing it. Thank you!
Same here. I began with .025, then .05. I've been using .1 for about a month. Not sure I see any wrinkle improvement but will continue using for the other benefits. Who knows, maybe I will start to notice a change soon.😊😊
Keep going! I experienced everything she talked about. For anti-aging its a life long commitment but worth it. Im on year 2 and finally seeing some small but noticeable improvement. Youll thank yourself in ten years😁
Ive been on tret for 6 months and started to see results recently after i added azalaic acid to my routine. Patience is key! My acne heals very fast and the texture i had is almost gone
I am fair skinned (really fair) and have sensitive skin. I was successful in adjusting to Tretinoin only by going very slowly. I used one night a week the first month, two nights the second month etc. I still got dry and flaky but preserved. I am glad I did. I now use Tretinoin six nights a week, one night I just cleanse and moisturize. I’ve been using Tretinoin 0.05 for three years now, have seen good results but it took a long time before I saw any results at all, about ten months.
Great video Dr. Dray! If I didn’t follow you I would have such different expectations for skincare products and probably do a lot more damage trying to find a bunch of different things.
Good morning from NY. I have Tren. 0.5 Do I put Tren on first? Or does a moisturizer go on the face first? Thank u. My face is white and peeling after I wash everything off. Thank u for any help. Be well. Edit:Just came across ur vid which says moisturizer first. Thank u very much!!! Appreciate the advice
I have been using curology for 3 years. As I look back over the pictures it has really made a difference in my aging skin. The texture of my skin is alot better. I use it every other day.
Have been using precribed trentinoin since in my 30's,now 65 and only in this last year have all my wrinkles showed up! When Covid started I stopped for 6 months and my skin thickened and stated getting acne back so now back on a rigid regimen! Yes it works! I use a Cerave night moisturizer about 2 hrs before application, pea size to help with irratation.I hate sunscreen but force myself to use it in Fla.
Also, Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen Tinted Face BB Cream SPF50 Mineral, available on Amazon, is a dream. I wear the Fair/Light. Love it...holy grail. I'm in Florida as well. 🌴
I definitely second reason #10! I'd been using prescription tretinoin (with increased dosages) for a couple of years and I thought it was working fine. Then during my regular follow-up with my board-certified dermatologist, she thought I could do better and switched me to prescription trifarotene. WOW. It was like the effect was put on hyperspeed--in 1 month I got the results that took me 3 months on my previous prescription retinoid, and well over a year when I wasn't using any retinoid at all. Granted, I also started getting irritation around the nose and mouth, but I used the Dr Dray trick of applying the retinoid over a thin layer of moisturizer (thanks, Dr Dray!) and it worked like a charm! I can't wait for my next appointment so I can wow my doctor as well. 🙂(Mind you, I'm not saying trifarotene is better than tretinoin--every patient is different and some prescriptions work better on some than others.) I feel like I tried every trick every skincare influencer all over the world had recommended, and not a single one got me ANY results until I started seeing my current dermatologist. There's a reason they spend a decade of their lives in school! Even she's been amazed by how much my skin has changed since my first visit. I know not everyone has the option to see a great dermatologist, nor are dermatology prescriptions (topical or systemic) easy to pay for, even if you have good insurance. But mine was worth every penny and every sacrifice. And, for me at least, cheaper than spending hundreds of dollars on skincare. Now if only I could buy the sodium hyaluronate lotion that came with my Nicaprin in a store, I'd be all set!
you are funny, your doctor put u on Trifarotine ..it is the highest dose of Retinol .. if u use low dose, it takes 3 months for it to work ..if u use high strength, it takes 5 weeks.. that is why u see the big different ..u need to learn the strenght of retinol ..
I used Retin A for many years and it worked great for decreasing the appearance of wrinkles or actually got rid of some of them. I had 3 fairly deep lines across my forehead and over time they disappeared. However after menopause, my skin became more sensitive and I had to cut down on the frequency. I found a new skin care line back in 2017 and it works great and doesn't irritate skin.
I have a very oily skin and this is my routine: Night 1. Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser 2. Differin Gel Adapalene 0.1% 3. Cerave PM Moisturizer Lotion Morning 1. Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser 2. QuickFx Sunscreen Am I doing it correctly? What can I add on my routine to improve my skin texture and hyper pigmentation? I have acne for 12 years so I'm suffering from scars and large pores.
Good morning Dr. Dray, after watching your videos I have been very diligent applying sunscreen. Thank you for making these videos!! So glad I found them😊
@@DrDrayzday I've been going between retinaldehyde, retinol and adapalene, depending on availability, but I have been constant in my daily use. Moderate acne gone, smoother healthier younger skin.. but after more than half a year there's a bit of a plateau. I mean, it won't make me into a fetus again LOL People have to be realistic as well. I think I'll have to settle for maintaining the results now. I also ordered a body retinol from iHerb you haven't mentioned, so I'm a bit suspicious of it. It's called Medix Retinol and Ferulic Acid. The Advanced Clinicals had a very thin consistency so maybe this one will be better for me during winter.
I just started tretinoin a month and a half ago. I started at every 4 nights, now I'm every other night, and I'll just stay there. My doctor drove home the take your time message. More is not better, and don't expect dramatic results overnight like I get from botox and Filler. I take pictures to show progress. I find that helps a lot. I'm able to see results that otherwise I may not have.
I’m not a slacker! I’ve just started applying for acne (still at age 52😫), I’m on day 17… my breakout last week was the worst I’ve had in a long time BUT I’ll continue because of your advice. I’m hoping the reaction means it’s working. 3 months seems daunting but I’ll keep at it.
This is such important info on how retinol works, and I think applies to most skincare ingredients as far as being patient and consistent with use. Thank you Dr. Dray. 😊
It took a year for me to see results but I had realistic expectations. I have no regrets, it is just amazing! And I love that my skin is not that oily anymore.
@@mmariabd Salut! Hope that helps :)
Mersi! Eu am folosit Mask gel, tot asa, in cantitate mica si doar o data pe saptamana si imi ieseau niste cosuri uriase sub piele extrem de dureroase, de-mi amortea jumatate de fata de durere si am renuntat sa mai folosesc in cele din urma
I was reading Dr. Ben Bickman's book Why We Get Sick. He says that every person with acne has higher insulin levels than every person without acne. So I went keto and boom! Acne that has plagued me for 20 years gone. I threw away my spironolactone. I do not have diabetes, and my glucose was always normal. My C peptide prior to keto was 1, which is normal, but dropped to 0.6. Now no acne.
Don't know what is going on in this video but you look absolutely lovely. Maybe the light, filter, makeup, I don't know! The ear rings also are a lovely compliment. Been watching and following you for years for no nonsense skin care. And I appreciate your down to earth personality. Don't change!
Thank you for this! I'd stopped using retinol because I felt it was making my skin look worse (after watching this, I now think I was using too much, too often) and had resigned myself to getting anti-wrinkle injections every 4 or 5 months. I'm going to give it another go now and give it the time it needs.
I absolutely love your videos. You are such a great source of information. I found you during the pandemic and I can’t stop watching your videos. I have learned so much. No one does it better. I love your honesty and knowledge. Thank you!
One year qui ne retinol after my skincare routine and I am not using make up anymore. Suffered from acne when I was younger, and now my skin is smooth and the pores reduced. Thank you so much 😊
Dr. Dray, thank you. Question…which is stronger: The Ordinary 5% Retinol in Squalene or The Ordinary 5% Granactive Retinoid? I seem to read conflicting information. Thank you!
I used Tretinoin and Adapalene and my acne kept coming and going which led me to believe i have hormonal acne and PCOS. I will never stop Tretinoin for the other benefits though.
100% agree with Dr.Dray. I thought I was consistent but looking back I was spotty with it. Last year I was strict with my routine and it really does work. Patience and consistency. It works.
I had severe acne. I have been treating it for 1 year. At first I started with benzoyl peroxide(evenings), then I switched to salicylic and niacinamide serum in combination.(mornings) For 1 month, I included retinol serum in the evenings with niacinamide, and in the mornings I stayed on salicylic serum and niacinamide serum. while I'm applying it, it has an effect, if i stop, the acne appears. that's why I don't stop, I have an established habit. I'm satisfied with the result I achieve.
I bought the Cerave resurfacing retinol serum. I don't think it claims to help acne, but actually pih. I didn't get it to use as my long-term retinol, but as a first step bc it seemed gentle. I think it's done that pretty well so far Thank you for the video. It was very informative and helpful!
I'm on my 5th month of differin's adapalene, and all my comedones/ acne is cleared! I haven't had any lesions in months! Thanks to your advice, I'm very grateful. After so much disappointment in the past, I've had doctors trying to treat my acne with vitamin c supplements! With very expensive peels! With differin as a spot treatment! Azelaic acid, microdermabrasion .. you name it.. nothing worked. But definitely adapalene or tretinoin (not an otc retinol) used all over and consistently is the true magic. Please keep on educating yourselves you guys, and don't lose hope. May God protect us from any scammers in the way. :) Ps: hydroquinone 4% is working wonders on my hyperpigmentation ;) . So happy! Thanks again.
Yassss, girl!!!! YAAAAAS!!! That' s the story of my life. I am sooo glad to read your journey 🖤 You didn' t give up in spite of the desperation we feel sometimes. Enjoy your ✨skin and have a healthy and blessed life 🧛🏻♀️🖤
@@jaymichan5766 hey Jay, I didn't experience any hair loss. The best way to treat hair loss is by getting the right diagnosis. & Trust me it could be treated.
My results with tretinoin 0.1% got progressively better after the first and second year. I really noticed a jump by the end (where I'm at now) of the 3rd year. Also, I put it on a damp face now at night, which made a difference. I do a double cleanse in the evening and, usually, just put the tretinoin directly on my skin after that while my face is still wet. My neck - finally - tolerates it, too, as well as the backs of my hands. (I started with 1x a week for a month; then, I went to 2x a week for a month, etc. Now, I'm at every night.)
Dr. Stefanie Kapel has said not to use that on your neck because the skin there is very delicate and doesn’t have the same anatomy (oil glands, etc) as the face. Just an FYI 😀
Use Trentinoin not just retinol for acne. And use altreno for irritation and hyperpigmentation use triluma for hyperpigmentation. Use ceraphil clay mask for oiliness
Hello. A subject rarely addressed: After a longer period with use of the same percentage of retinol, with good results. Can I continue using the same percentage ? Or do the effectiveness fade and I need to switch to a stronger one for maintaining these ? Thanks in advance for your answer.
the efficacy doesn't really "fade". the common advice to start low is mostly to avoid unnecessary irritation. if you use a low % and find that your skin tolerates it, you can up the dose if you so choose. i used to use 0.1 adapalene for half a year and experienced no irritation or even any changes so i changed to 0.1 tretinoin. it has worked wonders for me after using it nightly for 2 months.
Altreno is the best retinoid! Non irritating at all. I didn't even need an adjustment period for this one. It's perfect! $40 with prescription for 45 grams.
Hey Dr. Dray! Great video, I’ve always wondered about why retinol doesn’t seem to work for me - it turns out I’m just a really impatient acne sufferer. Have a great rest of your week
there are many strengh of retinol..if it does not work then tell your doctor to put u on Trifaretone bc it is the highest strengh of retinol .. there are 4-5 strengh of retinol ... u want to start low strengh first ..if it does not work then use high one
Wow, this was an eye opener. I've had all those complaints about retinol, but I clearly wasn't using it long enough. I need to try it again and stick with it.
There should be more awareness on what you CAN'T do while using retinoids! 😩😩 Unfortunately I waxed my moustache 2 weeks after starting prescription Epiduo (adapalene with benzoyl peroxide) and I reaped off all my skin! Now I am suffering in 2nd degree antibiotics burn cream... 😭 I DID NOT KNOW THIS! My doctor did not warn me, and I watched so many videos about retinoids like this one to be prepared but nobody talks about this!! But if you search for moustache wax burn you will see that all the people with ripped skin had this issue because they waxed when using retinoids... I waxed my moustache every month for 8 years by myself with the same brand of wax strips and never had any problem until I started Epiduo....
I agree 100% with you Dr. Dray. I use prescription Retinoid and every single outcome you have mentioned in this video has happened to me, irritation, dryness, peeling, worsen wrinkle appearance, inconsistency with treatment etc. However, retinoid works amazingly when we are patient and complaint with treatment. Changes don't happen over night and that's what people need to be aware of. This is an excellent and very informative video as usual. You're the best Dr. Dray and I am so grateful for your work on TH-cam. Thank you 🌹
Your videos have become a daily staple in my routine. I just want you to know I appreciate your videos so much as well as your no nonsense approach to skin care topics.
I started using it 2 months ago just now seeing results … it was the best thing for my oily acne prone skin. I’m not shiny anymore. My texture is gone. I’m gonna use it for years to come
Very informative and I just want to add to the commentary from the perspective of years of usage of retin A. I’m 67 and started using Tretinoin cream at age 55, prescription strength starting lower, graduating to 1% strength. I’m Canadian and it’s cheaper to buy RX strength here rather than from some cosmetic company at the lesser strength. Bottom line, I think Dr Dray is right, even if hard to accept, that over time it makes a difference, my 34 year old daughter has made the comment that I have fewer wrinkles than she has which has started her on the path of also using it! If you live in Canada and have extra health care coverage, the cost would be covered but not sure about the US?
YES!! few wks into differin, seen a horizontal line on my forhead I never knew was there!! I stopped! Now its time 2 start again w neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair 🤪❤🧡💯
Dr. Dray, thank you!!! My skin looks the best that it ever has, and that is greatly thanks to you and your informative videos. I was using Vanicream, Squalane oil and mineral SPF 50 sunscreen, but recently I added Differin to my routine, and it has been a game changer for me. My skin texture has been much smoother, even and hydrated; even my expression lines on my forehead and smile lines appear less deep and obvious. I used to feel like I had to wear foundation or powder daily, and lately, I rarely ever do. Thank you so much for everything you do. You really are out here changing people’s lives and boosting people’s confidence. 💗
@@coffeegirl697 Hi! I use the Banana Boat BABY Mineral Sunscreen. I saw somewhere that it’s formulated for babies so it’s safe for the sensitive skin on our face (I might’ve heard that from Dr. Dray herself, actually. I can’t remember.). It can definitely leave a white cast if not blended well. I have a lighter complexion, so if I take my time and blend it really well, it doesn’t leave a white cast on me. I apply my oil and moisturizer first, massage them into my face, and while my face is still somewhat slick, I apply my sunscreen. Alone, it can be hard to rub in. I’m not sure if it’s the best routine, but it works for me.
@@jaymichan5766 Hi! I’ve been using it for about 3 months, and thankfully, no. I haven’t noticed any increased hair loss or thinning. I looked it up just now, because I didn’t realize that was a thing, and it seems that those that have experienced hair loss were using tretinoin or accutane. I also read that taking Vitamin A supplements while applying these topically could be the possible issue. But as I mentioned before, with Differin, I haven’t noticed increased shedding/hair loss. I apply it every other night and only a tiny drop, because Dr. Dray said in a video that a little goes a long way.
Absolutely love this, and many of your videos. I have been watching, so EDUCATIONAL.. TY...I have been just using an over the counter retinol for about a month in a half and have just gotten up to doing it 4-5 times a week. I had to take it REALLY slow, and I am glad I have. However, so far so good. My skin has been extra smooth.
Also--Dr Dray, I'm so glad you mentioned retinoids/retinols can unmask dermal pigments. I'm finding this is happening with me in the thinner skin at my temples. Does the retinol eventually get rid of the dermal pigment or is there something else we need to do? I've just been diligently applying sunscreen over it and hoping for the best.
Brightening face masks have really helped me with hyperpigmentation. I especially like kose clear turn vitamin C whitening and jayjun baby pure shining mask. There are others but these 2 I see a difference right away.
I use the Alumier MD 0.5 % and it actually works! My skin is much brighter. It seems to speed up skin turnover so I don’t have dry flaky skin - especially when I put on makeup.
I'm so glad I'm living in a country where my tretinoin is only like 2.5 dollars. It's changed my skin since I've started to use it consistently. Before living here I was prescribed it in the UK and it was free because I was a student. I feel so bad when I see that people have to spend like 60 dollars for one tube.
I just started using the cetaphil oil control moisturizer with spf 30 and I have never worn spf regularly before thank you Dr dray for the recommendations I'm loving it
My derm added winlevi in the AM because the tretinoin wasn't taking away all of my acne. It's been pretty great as far as getting rid of hormonal breakouts. I'm not a fan of how thick it is (its hard to put sunscreen on after without streaks), but it doesn't lower my blood pressure like spironolactone did, so that's a win. She told me that I had really nice skin otherwise, and I said that your channel is the reason 🙂
I had been using Olay Retinol 24, not seeing much results, but it hasn't been 3 months yet. I don't have any wrinkles, but I have a light case of melasma on my forehead that I am desperately trying to get rid of. Be sure I won't be out in the sun this summer and I will make sure to wear a cap or something at all times. And of course, suncream. :)
I heard of a derm who refuses to prescribe retinoids. he suggests to use glycolic acid instead. I think retinoids have become so mainstream and oversaturated on social media we only hear the positives but im sure there are many negatives that are probably not studied yet. My skin is better off retinoids than on despite following rules.
I'm 38, just started using it. I don't have much signs of aging yet, but trying to avoid. Naturium is what I just recently started and It's so light on the skin without drying... Highly recommend for Colorado mountains. I smoke and drink sometimes..great stuff and makes my skin plump out nicely
Really appreciate this info. I bought Differin a few months ago but I haven't used it. I'm not sure why I've been so hesitant but this was helpful. Happy Wednesday, Dr Dray! I hope you have a peaceful evening. 💖
I have been using retinA 0.01% for the last 30 years every night. I live in Miami my dermatologist Dr. Leslie Baumann recommended to slow to three nights a week. I love the way my skin looks. Of course there are pores but I can’t see them. No I don’t have wrinkles around my eyes. And my skin has a glow that I love. I never had acne. And I use the cream. Thank you for this video.
Hello Dr Dray with all the respect for you I want to tell you about something that has helped me a lot with Retinol and this I learned from watching another dermatologist from Korea and it is by applying Retinol to put it on skin but in short circles, not as we normally do masagging the face completely. It takes twice as long to do it this way but it works extremely well, I haven't had as many positive changes on my face until I apply this shape of small circles all over the surface of my face. God bless you.
You mean like apply it in tiny circles and gradually covering the whole face? Apply on bare skin or after moisturizer? Koreans do have a knack for skincare. Thanks 😊
I started with Neutrogena Retinol Pro 0.3% night cream 5 weeks ago and love the product. I am 42 and use it only at nights. I notice that when I apply under my eyes it will cause minor dryness or more visible wrinkles, so I apply an eye cream first and then I use the retinol in the rest of my face, followed by a Cetaphil moisturising cream. In just 5 weeks I notice my skin looks amazing, smooth specially on my cheeks close to the bone, pores are definitely smaller, and there is an even skin tone. I am so in love that I also started to apply to my hands and neck, on my neck though I can only use 2 o 3 times a week.
hello mam please guide us what to apply for under eye wrinkles and what not ...is it ok to use ordinary niacinamide +zinc , alpha arbutin, peptides for under eye wrinkles or not ...and how to use aha bha for exfoliating eye area
I use an affordable otc retinol cream and have been for a couple years. I noticed positive changes with nightly use after a month and by two months I lost my frown line between my brows. Definitely don't give up on retinol :)
Wow, this was super informative. I've been using adapalene for years (I've also used tretinoine and azelaic acid) for acne and I've come across some of these questions myself. I'll be checking out your playlist, loved this video. Thanks!
I'm doing a slowly increasing retinol/ retinoid method. Beginning with Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair (retinol) for one month, then switching to Differin (adapalene) for a couple of months. And finally, starting prescription strength Tazaratene as the last stage. My derm swears by this method to gradually titrate my tolerance. It makes sense.
TIP FOR 2022. START using a retinol and STOP looking in the mirror every second EXPECTING overnight results. 2 years in and my skin texture is as smooth as butter.
Yes! Consistency is key!!!
What retinol do you use and do you use sunscreen daily?
@@i.c.4095 Hi there I started off with differin gel over the counter for one year. Now I’m on 0.025% prescription strength. Also sunscreen EVERYDAY regardless of whether you are indoors or outdoors. Best thing she said “don’t go to the internet and ask bunch of influencers on what you should do”. 😅. 💯 agreed. Everybody on social media is a skin care expert all of a sudden 🤔
Exactly why I only get skincare advice from dermatologists only.
Hahaha 🤣
And do what, go to a dermatologist who takes around a year to get into just so they can say "yup, you've got skin, that will be $200!"

I remember when I was 3-4 months in using tretinoin, I really really wanted to give up, I was so sad about my dry, flaky skin, when I smiled I had fine lines around my eyes which I neved had before... my skin looked so much worse than before. Now at year 3, I am so so so glad I didn't give up🙂
💔
when will u get results in which month?
that's good to know bc i also got fine lines under my eyes and was very confused
@niconii3663 have they gotten any better?
Which moisturizer u use with tre
Same! I apply coconut or olive oil and wait an hour at least before applying retin-a.

Keeping photos really does help keep me motivated.
I want to know ur skin care routine plz
@@reginaroza3154 what is ur skin care routine
@abartha2010 hi

What is your skin care regimen, may I ask?

I started using Olay, then Neutrogena, and now I will try Avene. I liked the 3 month results on the skin... No irritation.

Thank you!
the Retinol is stronger than the Granactive R.
Thank you for taking the mystery out of Retinol products! You are always so helpful! Happy Wednesday! 😊
You are so welcome!
I'm so thankful for you, Dr. Dray and Dr. Rajani!
I bought the Cerave resurfacing retinol serum. I don't think it claims to help acne, but actually pih. I didn't get it to use as my long-term retinol, but as a first step bc it seemed gentle. I think it's done that pretty well so far
Thank you for the video. It was very informative and helpful!
Epidual forte has was the golden key for me....worked way better than adapolene alone
Ps: hydroquinone 4% is working wonders on my hyperpigmentation ;) . So happy! Thanks again.
Yassss, girl!!!! YAAAAAS!!! That' s the story of my life. I am sooo glad to read your journey 🖤 You didn' t give up in spite of the desperation we feel sometimes. Enjoy your ✨skin and have a healthy and blessed life 🧛🏻♀️🖤
@@sebumpostmortem awww thank you for your kind comment, you too dear, all the happiness. 💫🤍🙈
Same here. No more breakouts but I'm having hair loss. I don't know if that's linked with the usage of Vitamin A 😕😕
@@jaymichan5766 hey Jay, I didn't experience any hair loss. The best way to treat hair loss is by getting the right diagnosis. & Trust me it could be treated.
your skin look better today, so radiant and smooth
Don' t put on wet face, must be dry

Why you use Altreno?
Hey Dr. Dray! Great video, I’ve always wondered about why retinol doesn’t seem to work for me - it turns out I’m just a really impatient acne sufferer. Have a great rest of your week
there are many strengh of retinol..if it does not work then tell your doctor to put u on Trifaretone bc it is the highest strengh of retinol .. there are 4-5 strengh of retinol ... u want to start low strengh first ..if it does not work then use high one
nah it doesnt work for u mainly because u r a girl!
Irritation is what you should avoid, doesn't need your doctor to tell you not to wax 🤣
Common scenece???
Doctorly derms have a video on this

I agree 100% with you Dr. Dray. I use prescription Retinoid and every single outcome you have mentioned in this video has happened to me, irritation, dryness, peeling, worsen wrinkle appearance, inconsistency with treatment etc. However, retinoid works amazingly when we are patient and complaint with treatment. Changes don't happen over night and that's what people need to be aware of. This is an excellent and very informative video as usual. You're the best Dr. Dray and I am so grateful for your work on TH-cam. Thank you 🌹
Your videos have become a daily staple in my routine. I just want you to know I appreciate your videos so much as well as your no nonsense approach to skin care topics.
nah u hated her videos, u just being ironic here
@@jake9854 umm Ok
Dr dray is soooo likeable I’m so happy she made a TH-cam channel!💜💜💜
Thank you Dr. Dray. As always, your advise is very clear, easy to understand and concise. Another very informative, appreciated and enjoyable video.
Im going to do my best with differn. Im 1 month in so I'm glad I watched this. So far no reactions, excessive drying or irritation.
Any suggestions on what products to use with hydroquinone to aid hyperpigmentation? Love your videos
Sunscreen
I tried hydroquinone for a few months for melasma and it didn’t do much. Vitamin C and sunscreen/hats are more effective. Just my personal experience.
Thank you, I have been using the cerave tinted mineral sunscreen but need a new one since it’s about to expire
I started using it 2 months ago just now seeing results … it was the best thing for my oily acne prone skin. I’m not shiny anymore. My texture is gone. I’m gonna use it for years to come
Does your acne reduce??
How ja your texture now? Am using it to improve my skin texture.
May I ask what sunscreen you use? If mineral still how do you deal with the white cast? Thank you
@@coffeegirl697 Hi!
Thank you Ale G, I was trying to add to your answer but hopefully you see this. I will try that sunscreen😊
Hi.. Do you experience hair loss whilst on Adapalene?
Mexico?
I just started using the cetaphil oil control moisturizer with spf 30 and I have never worn spf regularly before thank you Dr dray for the recommendations I'm loving it
I appreciate you, Dr. Dray 🖤
thanks for watching
Dr Dray your skin is looking amazing 🤩 you look gorgeous glowy and glamorous!
My skin is better off retinoids than on despite following rules.
there are long term studies now and no negatives. That derm needs to update his education
Can you update us plz
Aklief is $60 and works amazingly on me
Best retinoid ever!
Thank you so much Dr Dray. Your face skin is beautiful today. What did you use?

I started using Cerave resurfacing retinol... now i´m in neutrogena rapid ......
