This literally the best channel on skincare products❤️ Also Can you make a series on the best skincare products under a budget for every skin type? It would be really nice considering some of us are struggling here under the pandemic :’) Ily
That’s a great idea! There are so many amazing affordable skincare products so I love that idea! Also, I totally feel that cuz I bought all of these serums in this video 😭😭😭 💜💜💜
This is the worst channel on skincare. Everything she says is misleading or incorrect. Doctorly is a good channel if you want an alternative to a clueless chirpy young girl with no qualification or experience. Ideally, you shouldn't be buying any of these products and rather should be using tretinoin at night. Tretinoin is 20-50 times as effective as these retinol products as demonstrated by studies for anti-aging and improving pigmentation and skin thickness. I didn't hear her mention that all retinol treatments should be used at night either or that they increase sun sensitivity. Using one of these products she is advertising is largely snake oil, and any effects you see are placebo - using these very weak products could help if using every night for years and more in the improvement of aging and general skin appearance, but the results will not be dramatic and nothing like tretinoin. Applying a suncream throughout the day is 1000 x more important, and other products are mental masturbation.
@@xoxoxoxo5224 I don’t know how she is the worst and everything she says lines up with what I paid hundred of dollars for a doctors appointment +how the hell she would advertise tretinoin when it’s so damn harsh on some skin types You know that tretinoin is more effective and stronger so if someone with the an allergy would use it it would be a disaster it’s not something you use without a permission from a dermatologist who knows what is exactly skin type and if you have allergic reaction against it She can’t advertise something when she don’t know exactly what the viewer skin type is and their health state So right retinol might not be as effective as tretinoin (although it’s so damn effective for me) it’s much safer for her to advertise in her position So please don’t spread information about products you don’t know what harm could do to others +Sorry if my English gave you a stroke it’s not my first language
@@pspspspspspspspspspspspspspss i) It is evident she does not know what she is talking about to someone who has some experience and education in the field; ii) you shouldn't be taking advice about medical issues from a young girl with no qualifications; iii) she does not mention that any retinol products should be used only at night; iv) retinol products are relatively ineffectual and she is working through products, without understanding of the ingredients; v) you said the retinol product is "so damn effective for me" - this is untrue and/or a placebo; it takes 6 months - 1 year for tretinoin to start having mildly noticeable results nevermind a very weak retinol product - the science does not bear about noticeable results. If used nightly for a decade, putting faces side by side, there would be some difference; vi) tretinoin does NOT commonly ignite allergies more than any other OTC product - you are more likely to have an allergic reaction statistically to BP, or an AHA or BHA; vii) tretinoin is not "so damn harsh" - you apparently have never used it. You can use it every other night, lower concentrations and smaller amounts and work up; vii) actually tretinoin products are over the counter in MOST countries in the world, it just happens that in the US (and some countries in Europe) that it requires a prescription (any doctor will usually do, not a derm) but you will not find a single anecdotal case on the entire internet where someone has been refused the prescription. There are various reasons for why it is not OTC in the US; including supply chain and potential harm for children. You certainly wouldn't want an 8 year old using it. The US does supply products like Differin OTC which contains adapalene which is much stronger than retinol; and viii) "skin type" diagnosis was created by the cosmetic industry to sell products, skin is dynamic and changes all the time - oily, combination, dry etc. leads many people, like yourself, down silly rabbit holes. Her channel is generally ignorant and extremely harmful to young people, like yourself, who like her chirpy presentation style - unfortunately over any substance. Product comparisons and reviews like this hide her complete lack of understanding over effective ingredients, or indeed skincare in general. I suggest a channel run by a dermatologist. There is nothing wrong with trying a retinol product out before you go on tretinoin, but the lack of information in this video is heavily negligent.
Im a beginner to use this retinol and Im using it three times a week is it fine ? I also bought paulas choice chemical exfoliant when will be the best time to use it ?
I use dove bar for cleaning my face twice a day. Then I put my spf45 Peter Thomas lotion on my face as well. But I’ve been doing two days on and two days off with the inkey list retinol at night. It’s been 3-4 weeks now. My skin has been glowing, my cheeks are more red, has more colour, it’s been clearing up my acne spot on my one side of my face, and it’s not that noticeable but noticeable to me. Which I’ve been trying to clear up for literally 10 years. I’m 27. I still have pimples on my face. But not as bad breakouts anymore and my skin has been so soft. Love it.
Tip - for the Ordinary’s retinols, you can buy pumps for them under Niod. It’s only $3. Well worth it. You can reuse the pump too. Wow - I didn’t know that DE changed their Passioni packaging.

Question! The cells in our body only divide a finite number of times, (about 50 times), this is one of the main reasons for why we age. Does this mean that using retinoids in your 20s, 30s and 40s will cause our cells to become senescent and die off sooner?
would love a review of the ordinary' other retinoids !! i bought the granactive emulsion without thinking but i've been scared to add it to my skincare routine since i'm already using AHAs and BHAs, and i heard retinols take a long time to do anything for your skin and can be extremely irritating
I also used 2 bottles of TO Granactive Retinoid, I would say make sure your moisture barrier isn't damaged and start slow such as using it x2 a week after moisturizer then x2 a week before moisturizer and work your way up! Also if you're using gentle AHA&BHA's I don't think it'll be a problem but for guarantee you may wanna give it a break for a week or two!
@@gokcecolak5757 do you think people with acne prone and their skin irritates easily can use granactive retinol 2% ins squalane? I’m planning to retinol in my routine but i scare that it will break me out like crazy since my skin is very acne prone and sensitive. I’m just 21yo tho
@@Quartza_ I'm 19 and we have the same skin type but I didn't use that so I can't say what it will do but I think the one with squalane is a bit more gentle because the oil kind of acts like a buffer, as long as you don't use too much and start slowly I would say it's fine but look up other user opinions about it😊
I've used the 5% one with an AHA, but I used the AHA in the morning and the retinoid in the evening, and I only use the AHA once a week. I would say: just be gentle with your skin and experiment carefully. The granactive ones don't irritate by the way, they're super gentle.
I am using Paula's Choice 2% bha and I use tretinoin every night, however TO 2% granactive retinoid cause me breakout and i stop using it even though i actually ever use it and has no breakout... I would say TO isn't containing enough strength for those potent ingredients. With the price it just works fairly. I would rather recommend you to use a cheaper alternative which is tretinoin or go for a higher price range option~
I have oily/combination skin and and I use the benzoyl peroxide 5% daily deep differin cleanser every other morning, a 2% salicylic acide every other morning and the cera/ve retinol resurfaceing serum ever night before bed, I use an oil free non-comedogenic moisturizer after the morning routine to help prevent dryness and use it before I apply the cera/ve you want to have the moisturizer completely dry before you apply the serum, I've been using it for 5 days now and can see a big difference in my hyper pigmentation, and active breakouts /post acne redness/scars
I hate that the ordinary retinol (1% in squalance one) have really low "period after opening". It is 3 months. It's not like I cant use retinol every day, day and night! You literally can't use 30ml of serum up after 3 months. And I'm even afraid it would go bad even sooner with that kind of packaging. Thanks for your video, I'm 25 and would love to try the others.
I'm confused as to why you said The Ordinary's product isn't protected against the light because on the packaging it says it has UV protection (hence why it's tinted).
I have combo skin with dry sensitive patches on forehead and cheeks. La Roche Posey vitamin b3 retinol is the best I have used. Wonderful feel on my face. I follow with The Great Barrier relief by Krave beauty, then purito sleep pack cream. Devine
I've had hormoal acne since around 2019. I've been on epiduo and it worked but after a few months of REALLY clear skin i started to break out around my chin again. I got epiduo forte which also worked for a while but recently i've been breaking out again. I just ran out of epiduo forte and i decided to try to use the ordinary 1% retinol every night instead. I've been on it for 3 days now and so far my skin got pretty dry on day 2 but since my skin has been through the epiduo dryness stage it calmed down pretty quickly. Today however, i woke up with 2 new pimples and i think one of them might be a cyst. I recently bought an aloe vera plant so i'm going to start putting on pure aloe vera gel on my skin after cleaning it and before any other skincare products. I don't know how well aloe vera and retinol is going to work but i'm hoping for the best
@@lisatrd Well a lot has happened. I was on the retinol for about a week but when i started breaking out again i got scared and called the doctor. The doctor prescribed Acnatac and i’ve been on it for about 7 weeks now. It worked very fast but about 5 days ago i started breaking out again so i called the doctor back and now i’m also taking Tetralysal (oral antibiotic). So far so good, my skin is pretty much clear at this point. I’m supposed to be on Acnatac for 12 weeks and Tetralysal for 3 months and after that i’m going to start a journey of getting rid of my scars by getting sessions of dermapen. Hopefully my acne wont come back after i stop using tetralysal because then i won’t be able to get the facials. It really sucks that my acne keeps coming back but i do have more hope now that i am taking oral medication for it instead of just creams. I do however think the retinol could work great for a lot of people and i do still use retinol sometimes (not sure if i should tho) in the AM before moisturizing. Generally i sadly think i’m one of those people who only can beat the acne by fixing the imbalance inside of my body. Sorry for the rant lol
Question for the Cathy : If you keep on increasing and speeding up cell turnover (creating new daughter cells rapidly), over time, are there telomeres shortening and thus speed up aging in the long run??? Thank you. (oh btw you have a beautiful smile)

Thank you for making this video. I was just thinking of incorporating a retinol into my skincare routine. Where would you recommend I place the retinol in my routine?
I’m not an expert, but I’ve read that you should not use SA at the same time as a retinol. It seems like you could use the SA cleanser on days you do not use the retinol, but definitely do not wash your face with SA and then apply retinol.
Very information! Although in the section where you are talking about how to apply it, you said to avoid the eye area. I have crows feet around my eyes and wanted to use retinols to fix that. Are the products you mentioned not suitable for the eye area then?
I used for a few weeks and it was fine.... After a while, I woke up with my face red with a lot pimples and it was itching a lot. I stopped and after a few days dissappear so I did the patch test in my arm and behind my ear, I got pimples on both and it was itching the whole night. I think I'm allergic, I was using the ordinary retinol 0.5 in squalene and I'm 29 years old and my skin is dry type.
I watch another doctor a TH-camr and said to apply it where you have fine lines that are appearing so is this stuff supposed to be put only on the fine line areas? Not the whole face?

Paula's Choice 1% serum seems to be more potent though (& it should be for 60 dollars) as it's reviews are full of people who complain it nearly burnt their faces off (because they didn't listen to the instructions of course).
but 1% is 1%? so how can be paulas be more potent?
you shouldn't use retinol daily😭
Hope you could do a video for best asian sunscreens for different skin types 😄 Love all your videos, very informative & your voice is so calm 🥺
Love the idea! thanks 🙏 💜
@@CathyonSkincare looking forward! 😍
OMG thank You so much for this video. It literally felt like a personalised consultation 😂❤️
Omg the inkey list one seems to be the perfect starter retinol
omg perfect timing i was just gonna start looking for a retinol to fade scars! a comparison of the ordinary's retinols would be amazing please
Okay, noted 🙌
Can you use this for scars? I broke my forehead on the glass on our china cabinet and now have a prominent scar on top of my eyebrow. Can i use retinol for this?
Cerave all their products itch after awhile. My skin ain't sensitive at all I've used OTC Roc and Loreal and Olay retinols and no itching like cerave. Roc dries your skin makes you look worse older big time. Olay and the Equate Walmart version so far are my favorites. Think I might try Paula's Choice.
Your smile is so contagious! 🥰
I was smiling this whole time! Thanks for making retinol so fun :)
Im glad your back 🥰❤️ you deserve all the hype
Omg. You are a mind reader!! On those bha ep. I was looking for it and now retinol! I’m going to buy one and searching for detail then I found you! Thank you
Thanks Cathy! You’re so knowledgable and your video have helped me a lot as a skincare nerd!
I hope one of these days, you’ll also have a comparison video among The Ordinary retinol products. 💕❤️
Hopefully you can have separate video tackling the ordinary retinols!! 🥺
Im not a fan of drunk elephant, however I have to give credit where credit is due. Their retinol is a game changer. I love it! I use it once a week and thats more than enough. It helped me with my skin problems. Its the best retinol out there. It smoothen my skin. It helped me solved with my acne. I’m 35 year old guy but everyone thinks I’m only 21. Lmao! I started using this product since 2019, I used to look older than my age but now everyone thinks I’m in my early 20’s lmao
Have you ever used Paula’s choice? I’m deciding between drunken elephant and Paula’s choice!
You can literally feel and see 👀 it working
I love it too
Been looking forward to this video!
This literally the best channel on skincare products❤️
Also Can you make a series on the best skincare products under a budget for every skin type?
It would be really nice considering some of us are struggling here under the pandemic :’)
Ily
@@xoxoxoxo5224 I don’t know how she is the worst and everything she says lines up with what I paid hundred of dollars for a doctors appointment
+how the hell she would advertise tretinoin when it’s so damn harsh on some skin types
You know that tretinoin is more effective and stronger so if someone with the an allergy would use it it would be a disaster
it’s not something you use without a permission from a dermatologist who knows what is exactly skin type and if you have allergic reaction against it
She can’t advertise something when she don’t know exactly what the viewer skin type is and their health state
So right retinol might not be as effective as tretinoin (although it’s so damn effective for me) it’s much safer for her to advertise in her position
So please don’t spread information about products you don’t know what harm could do to others
+Sorry if my English gave you a stroke it’s not my first language
Love it.
So why would we trust cerave's products if they can't even disclose the exact formulation of their products? 🙄
Because they work for a lot of people I’ve been using cerave for the last two years with no issues and it’s fixed my acne
I *LOVE* your fringe! - It's how I wish mine would look...
Tip - for the Ordinary’s retinols, you can buy pumps for them under Niod. It’s only $3. Well worth it. You can reuse the pump too.
Wow - I didn’t know that DE changed their Passioni packaging.
Great tip!!!
I started using Inkey List's Retinol 3 weeks ago, had a little peeling in the first few days and surprisingly haven't had a breakout!!! It's amazing! Waiting for results~ Thanks for this video
omg I really need ur update about the inkey list, i hope u would reply, and if I may know what's ur skin type? have a nice day Skye hope u got a gooood result ✧
@@sssumin Hiii! I’m 24yo with combination dry skin, it really helped me with acne control to be honest, I will definitely keep on using. I also stopped consuming dairy at the same time I have to mention as well. It does worth a shot I totally recommend.
@@elcrego I'm sorry to bother you by constantly replying, but based on how you feel does it help with premature aging like texture, fine lines, and dullness? I'm 18yo n my skin is normal to dry n idk whyyy I'm so obsessed with trying the retinol from the inkey list but I think it's really worth to try? so so so I really thankful for ur reply Skye!!! ♡
how is your skin now 9 months later? do you still use the retinol? hopefully you still check this thread 😅
@@joannet5278 I stopped using when it finished 4 months ago, It was great and controlled the minor pimple thing I had but I chose to use exfoliating acids for acne care instead because I think it’s a little too early for me to use retinol. However I 100% recommend it.
Question!
The cells in our body only divide a finite number of times, (about 50 times), this is one of the main reasons for why we age. Does this mean that using retinoids in your 20s, 30s and 40s will cause our cells to become senescent and die off sooner?
This video was so informative! I just found your channel yesterday and I'm already obsessed! Can't wait for the next video!❤️
Hey y'all, don't sleep on the Neutrogena Rapid wrinkle repair regenerating cream. (Fragrance free) It's one of the best out there, over the counter.
For dry skin. ..not oily skin
I really really love your smile! It's adorable 😍
would love a review of the ordinary' other retinoids !! i bought the granactive emulsion without thinking but i've been scared to add it to my skincare routine since i'm already using AHAs and BHAs, and i heard retinols take a long time to do anything for your skin and can be extremely irritating
Yes🤗🤗🤗thxs for this video! It's so helpful!
I would really like a retinol video from the ordinary! 😘
the most informative video EVER.
Thank you for bringing some clearness into all the chaos in my head hahah skincare can be so confusing, but youre doing a great job educating
Yes! I love your videos. Would totally love a video with all The Ordinary retinols🥰
Kisses from Mexico!!!🖤🖤🖤
Can you do a brand review of Naturium? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experience if you do!
I LOVE your channel it’s exactly the information I need ❤
Is 1% Retinol strong ? ❤️
yes
I use the one from the Ordinary 5% I love it 👌
Wow this is really informative, and a way that’s easily understandable, thanks girl 😭❤️
Devine
I use the fresh squeeze vitamin c and retinol duo from Clinique at the moment
Hylauronic acid actually pulls away from hydration when used in combination with retinol.
Could you please compare all The Ordinary retinols? I am using granactive retinol in emulsion - what are your thoughts on this product?
Yayyy finally you can upload videos 🥳🥳🥳 I'm so happy for you 😊☺️😊 .
Omg this video just showed up an omg I love your positive personality!!
Hi! Maybe i’m late but how did it go??
Hey! You’ve been doing your homework haha. This is on the very cutting edge of the research, so basically it is currently unknown. If you want to read more for yourself, there’s this great study from 2013 breaking down some of the current unknowns - it goes in depth with a lot of context and is a good place to start www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3690281/

I heard the retionids is best applied to a dry face? is this true?
What brand and color is your lipstick please?😍
According to Cerave it has 0,3% retinol in it
I really like your backdrop and intro music
which one is best for smoothing the skin and helps acne scars?
Which brand is good for beginners?
Can I use a retinol with my CeraVe cleanser for combo skin with salcylic acid in the same skincare routine?
I’m not an expert, but I’ve read that you should not use SA at the same time as a retinol. It seems like you could use the SA cleanser on days you do not use the retinol, but definitely do not wash your face with SA and then apply retinol.

How is the ordinary packaging not airtight or light blocking? The glass is tinted so it filters out uv.
even in the package it says it's UV protecting, those types of glass bottles are used to protect laboratory reagents
Very information! Although in the section where you are talking about how to apply it, you said to avoid the eye area. I have crows feet around my eyes and wanted to use retinols to fix that. Are the products you mentioned not suitable for the eye area then?
there are retinol products made specifically for under eyes. I think they’d work better for you. they’re probably formulated a little less harsh?
I used for a few weeks and it was fine.... After a while, I woke up with my face red with a lot pimples and it was itching a lot. I stopped and after a few days dissappear so I did the patch test in my arm and behind my ear, I got pimples on both and it was itching the whole night. I think I'm allergic, I was using the ordinary retinol 0.5 in squalene and I'm 29 years old and my skin is dry type.
I watch another doctor a TH-camr and said to apply it where you have fine lines that are appearing so is this stuff supposed to be put only on the fine line areas? Not the whole face?
quality editing and a comparison of some good options, instead of the non cruelity free ones from the big bad companies ✌️ i appreciate the fact that you had done some more in-depth research on the products aswell 🕵️🙏

I tried CeraVe retinol and ended up having a terrible acne breakout after just using it twice 😭
that is what it’s supposed to do, it brings out all the acne and u just have to continue treating it until it goes away. it’s called purges which is what it does
What if someone took accutane before and had a purging stage, will i get the purging stage again with retinol? 😭
Ty for making this simple 😅
What about oily to combination skin?🍃
i tried 1% retinol squalene from the ordinary as a beginner and i got nausea and headaches. seems to be vitamin a intoxication or retinol intoxication from the too high dosage or maybe from the smell of squalene. anyway im now trying paulas choice .3% with bakuchoil. hopefully the lesser dose is more manageable
Anyone that's been trying or has tried the Paula's choice one can tell me how it went? I wanna try it for hyperpigmentation
How about the ordinary granactive retinoid 2% emulsion ?
Wouldn't recommend if you have rosacea or sensitive skin. I used one drop and my cheeks were burning for days lol
