I'm South African and I haven't been to the Van Zyl summit yet, I've heard about it, I want to go now. The pictures probably don't do justice compared to seeing it with your own eyes. The beauty of God's creation, I love it!
Busy watching all the episodes, and just amazing to see the American vehicles driving in Botswana/Namibia. In this video @ 13:17 min, you mention a shot up Land Cruiser. That vehicle is actually a 1980 Isuzu KB. You also mentioned the 300 series Land Cruisers you wish you had in North America, well same goes for us in South Africa that we wish we got your big Toyota trucks. Great footage to watch !! Enjoy South Africa.
The pace required to complete a filming agenda is one thing, but stopping to help that girl is on another world of planetary humanitarianism. Thank you guys for allowing your schedule to accommodate paying respect and offering your help to villagers who have little to no resources. This truly brought a tear to my eye and I thank you for going above and beyond a normal “show” production to just stop, be human and connect with what is around you. Hats off amigos!
This episode was a pinnacle of editing and writing for me, and a masterclass for the masterless. Great job! I thoroughly enjoyed it, as I do all your productions.
After watching XOverland for a few years it’s always amazing what you can learn. I was amazed, in the last two episodes, to learn that one of my distant relatives was an explorer in southern Africa. We didn’t know that until last Sunday and when I sent the kids a screen shot of the summit of Van Zyls pass they were thrilled. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Oh, and thank you for pronouncing our name correctly.
Awesome video as always XO Crew. The Africa series is such an epic series. Y’all are such amazing and awesome people y’all always do y’all’s best to help someone in need where ever y’all Rome. Thanks for letting us ride long with y’all on y’all’s adventures.
Another amazing episode! It so wonderful that you could help that little girl with her arm. I hope it heals well! The statues along the way are interesting! Would be so cool to learn their real meanings.
I've been watching your videos for several years now and I'm a huge fan. I've already been overlanding in Africa many times. I love the African style of overlanding and I'm also a huge fan of the US overlanding scene. You're such a very likeable team and it's so much fun to watch this series. Seeing how you deal with problems and seeing how the American overlanding style combines with the South African style. Traveling and overlanding is one of the best ways for people to understand each other. What you've done here and how you do it cannot be valued highly enough in these difficult times. It's great that you have some of the best South African overlanders by your side. If I ever ship my Jeep from Bavaria to the USA (the plan is still there!) then I'll visit you in Montana. Best wishes from south Munich, Bavaria, Germany🍺
What u guys are duin is my dream i pray god i get chance to do same before i run out of time. Am 20 Used to watch this with ny pops before he kicked the bucket he would love to hear you came in Africa my home. You guys are doing a good job especially the girl scene ❤
The rock crawling and then into the sand. So sweet, would love to be there with my family in our tacoma and enjoying it with you all. Meeting more people, offering help and the rock men love it. Best thing about it, all new experiences and memories.
Looking forward to each episode of your "Africa Xpedition" - love to watch your Africa Overlanding Xpedition. Also been following your programs the past 5 years. Hope you are coming to see Table Mountain. Keep on xploring! Wish you all of the best on your adventure. Stay safe, Joseph (Cape Town, South Africa).
The footages in the desert at the end of the video are so beautiful and to be honest I had some tears , because that remind me the Journey I made through the Libyen desert in 2009 . Thank You so much .❤
At every point in your overland trekking journey, TIA will have the same as well as a different meaning. Be mindful, thankful and overpowered by the aura of timelessness, for This is Africa. Envelope yourself in its majesty. Blessings from all that was born onto this land.
I recently began watching your channel and my 😍🔥😎this is amazing.. thank you for helping the young girl in Namibia..👏🏻👏🏻that is true humanity right there❤❤all the best in your adventures ❤❤ and welcome back to Africa let this not be your last trip to this vast Continent Africa.. watching all the way from Kenya 🇰🇪 😍😍
That is one awesome show you guys! I stumbled by accident across it. I was searching for videos about South Africa. And I also do some off roading in Alberta. That why it instantly grabbed me, when I saw it. Last summer, I had the unbelievable opportunity to spend 3 wonderful weeks in South Africa. I think every day about it. I came across that poem, and I believe almost everyone that has been to Africa, can agree with me, that’s what I feel when I think about Africa. AFRICA SMILED written by Bridget Dore in 1995 (dedicated to Nelson Mandela) Africa smiled a little When you left. "We know you," Africa said, "We have seen and watched you, We can learn to live without you, But we know we needn't yet." And Africa smiled a little When you left "You cannot leave Africa," Africa said. "It is always with you, There inside your head." And Africa smiled a little. "Our rivers run in currents In the swirl of your thumbprints; Our drumbeats Counting out your pulse, Our coastline, The silhouette of your soul." So Africa smiled a little When you left "We are in you,"Africa said. "You have not left us, yet."
Thanks for great show. Nice balance of real vs cinematic. Better / different than Nordic series. Maybe that was intended or because I’m watching on my phone 😉. Looking forward to Africa part duex and visiting here in Kenya.
Hi, Van Zyl's pass was built by Ben van Zyl in 1960 and opened in 1965. He was appointed Commissioner of Bantu Affairs in the Koakoveld in 1947 and built the pass to enable him to visit the area under his control a little bit easier.
1947? Apartheid and its laws were in 48'... In 47' we were still a British colony and followed their rules and used their currency. In 1910 the British gave it to the Afrikaners to run it for them while they were stealing the gold and running it from behind the scenes. In 1902 after the war the first thing the British did in Joburg was increase the gold production to pre-war lvls again. In 1914 they basically forced us to fight their war on germany(ww1), in 1916 the afrikaner uprsing was violently queled, assisinated one of our leaders too, in 1922-24 the afrikaans workers uprising violently queled again. We were in the backseat in our own country of birth while we were a British puppet country. Anything pre-apartheid laws is partly British fault, if not all, as even during ww2 our puppet leaders chose Britain's side in a war that had nothing to do with SA. Aus, New Zealand, Canada were all also still part of the crown and dont think for one moment their native population weren't treated any better than SA's were just because we had the Afrikaners aswell as the British.
Another great video, I wish you guys would share more of the costs when your getting fuel or groceries or at the end of a series so we have an idea how expensive it was to travel !
I never agreed with placing the shocks upside down but there you go, a great example of what happens when you place a shock upside down. Now Icon had to ad a few ounces of weight to protect the shaft and it created problems on the trail. Keep it simple. Toyota designs things simple for a reason. Dont do that with your shocks. Awesome video, overall.
As an outside observer and being and having traveled traveled Southern Africa your biggest challenge is a too tight schedule. Africa is NOT like the rest of the world, time is an extremely relative construct here. Should you ever return take it slower and explore more, you've driven past some of the greatest jewels of Southern Africa. Great video none the less.
I've been watching your expeditions for months and was very excited to see that you guys are going to visit my country Namibia. Can we have your honest thoughts on Namibia. Did you have any issues with people, our banking system was it easy to withdraw money? where do you think we must improve; will you come back or will encourage others to also explore Namibia.
Please let us know before the episode ends that its ending , I was so focused on the trip then it ended 😀without warning 😀.loved it thank you . Now I wait 😀Justin Stark Cape Town.
A true highlight of my Overlanding career! Such a wonderful to be a part of!
Awesome to see how much you are enjoying the adventure and how much you add to the team!
Hey Adrian when I saw you joining the team, I blushed like a kid.

Thank you for making all of these videos!

Pretty amazing to be able to video call a doctor from such a remote location. Starlink is a lifesaver.
It was certainly not what I expecting at 3 AM when my phone rang.
great job guys helping the young girl, this is humanity at its best. much love

Enjoy your trip! Good narrative as well. Nearest hospital however was at Opuwa, one days drive away.
Good on ya XO crew, she was lucky to run in to you guys
Smashed another one out the park. Beautiful
Just as amazed watching a kid riding a donky in the middle of the desert as he must be waving back at those vehicles. Magic
that kid is actually living in the "expedition"...
The one thing I'm envious of is the lack of light pollution. I can only imagine a good telescope out there on a clear night.
Well done for the awesome aid to the girl !
Thanks for great show. Nice balance of real vs cinematic. Better / different than Nordic series. Maybe that was intended or because I’m watching on my phone 😉. Looking forward to Africa part duex and visiting here in Kenya.
This is one thing about X overland, once you start with first episode you can’t stop. I did the same thing with Mackenzie and South America.😂

When you see those fuel drums you've always got to leave a bottle of water it's to help someone that ran out of petrol all the local town

20:00 What were you using for connectivity to FaceTime Dr. Jon? Starlink?
Starlink!
Th e call to North Dakota was crystal clear.
A ratchet strap connected to that armor and then to the towing points of the frame could pull it, all while staying clear of the end flying off lol
Please let us know before the episode ends that its ending , I was so focused on the trip then it ended 😀without warning 😀.loved it thank you . Now I wait 😀Justin Stark Cape Town.
TOP!!👌👋
Man, good thing you recovered quickly for your tire sponsor😂😂😂 Should have been running Falcon Wildpeak AT3W, Always next time.
