Thank you Shaun for your awesome message. We both appreciate it mate. So the thing is camera always softens everything. Angles are never steep and sand never looks that thick, but, it is very thick in some parts. Glad you enjoyed the adventure mate, and thank you again for your kind words. Legend 🙌
What an adventure again. I am homesick for the bush, but your video's take me right back. But you guys make it so difficult for us to choose where to go to next as all those places are brilliant. Just to let you know. Because of your videos I had a look at Tschakabika. Probably the most beautifull spot in Hwange, best accesible from railroadtrack. But I came from Lukosi/Sinamatella side, like you, that was not easy, few stops to improve the dry riverbed-crossing with rocks and logs to get through without damage. But then I went from Tshakabika down to Tshompani. That was a crazy adventure, at times not a decent track, 16k in appr 3hrs sometimes even having to cut a detour around a pushed-over tree. Not advisable to be honest, even the rangers that I supprisingly met at Tshompani couldnt believe I did that track. But at Tshompani waterhole I was astonished and couldnt believe what I saw: hundreds of Elephant at that waterhole coming, going, at the water, in the water. Wouldnt have had that experience without your video's.
Thank you Iddo, really appreciate your kind words and glad the show is pointing you in any direction. Inspired bud. I am going to have to visit Tshompani waterhole and drive the track. I’ve been halfway along that track before and yes, it isn’t one for the faint of heart. Thank you mate and I’ll see you at the next one legend 🤙
Wiser thing to do, turn around at the right time, should have also done that. Wasn't punished by the bush this time. "Courage and stupidity are close neighbours".
That was great. That's an area we would love to see. We have been told many times that Khwai has some of the best wildlife sightings in Africa. Seems accurate. I don't know about sleeping in a ground tent with 6 big male lions around....Rhys. As always, proud to be a Patreon.
Another beautiful episode Ryan. Well done... On the swag tent it will work better in fenced camps only not wild camping.. Bigger elephant may go over it and mistakenly step on it it's too low
I'm so happy I watched the whole video. Enjoyed every bit of it.. But the way, the vibes between you guys 👌👌 Looove it.. Hi Ryan . I love the episodes. Reese can get a swag from Ironman 4x4 . It's very sturdy and awesome quality... but i agree with you i wouldn't feel safe. But i also believe predators see a ground tent and a swag as a "bush" or a big rock. I don't think they have picked up that there would be a human snack inside a tent. They just don't hunt like that . But an elephant might step on you by accident. So if i would use a swag, i would pitch it next to a vehicle.
Thank you legend. So my concern with a swag is getting in and out of one at a compromised position, on ones side. In the early hours of the morning I think one would be more vulnerable to a leopard attack, no matter closeness to vehicle. It is an interesting idea though. Rhys has seen the swags as you mentioned, but I think he has his eyes set on something else from dometic. Thanks again and I appreciate your comment 🙌
I agree. It's very sketchy. The dometic is a good product as well.i am like you , i also prefer my rooftop tent. But ja thanks again for the awsome episodes. 😅 @4x4ventures_southafrica
Greetings from Tampa, Florida. Thank you for an amazing episode full of great sightings and good info. Both you and Rhys make a fabulous and fun team! Looking forward to your next adventure.
Hey Ryan .. good to see you boys out and about again .. the Swag … ok I live in Australia where they are quite common and popular , I have borrowed my nephew’s one a few times.. the only benefit is they are quick to erect . The down side is they are very bulky and heavy for their size , then if you want it off the ground then you have to get an off ground stretcher frame purpose made for a swag .. and that comes with another heavy bulky add on . They are nice in winter as they are warm . But in rain I have serious doubts if they are going to keep you dry . Personally I would find a very well made practical two or one man canvas tent . The new canvas made now is a lot lighter than the older tents from years ago . The swag can open up if you get hot at night , they are enclosed with mozzie fly screen net .. but wildlife like lion etc would take advantage of that and it would be not safe being so low down and exposed . Swags are not for everyone and certainly not in Africa in the wild bush with predators around ! Stay well !
Thank you mate for your honest sentiments regarding a swag here in Africa. I feel the same way and appreciate your information about some of the things that do concern me about using one in wild places. Much appreciated
@@4x4ventures_southafrica and thank you Ryan and Reece for your enthusiasm and entertainment , first class lads .. and love your channel big time , I enjoy that it is actually always a long episode and not these short 5 minute shows we often see on TH-cam .. keep it up brother you doing very well 👍👌🏻👏👏👏
Good show guys! Speak to the Ironman 4x4 guys, they use swags in some of there videos, and also supply them (Reese looks like he might be a bit big for one of those!)
Thanks mate. At this stage it would seem a Rhys problem. We think it would make for interesting camp life. Yes, familiar with their swag options, and from Dometic. Let’s see where the tall fella lands 😂
Spent 6 months living in a swag in Western Australia whilst drilling for gold. Was pretty good except when the creepy crawlies visited, usually two nights before going on a break. Had close encounters with Kangaroos checking me out in the middle of the night and breaking the ice off the swag in winter was always a bit challenging.
This conversation will be helpful for me too as i have been looking into buying a swag from Ironman but i have been skeptical, haven't seen one in person here in Bots! But i feel is the same as canvas ground tent but very small as if is a sleep bag 😂😂
It’s a tough one if you make it so. For me, personally I wouldn’t tempt a swag, but for others they are keen. Without having tested one, or spoken to anyone who have slept in the proper wild with one I cannot advise you legend. I’m sure it will be fine, but can you imagine sleeping in one at Mabua, Kgalagadi and the lions come into camp. Shit, not for me mate. Good luck 👌
HI, I think a swag can work in a normal fenced camp site. In the wild I think if you put in on a stretcher and next to a vehicle you should be quite good and not on the open should a herd of animals come running though your camp site . Nice video and nice places you have been to.
Just thinking about the swag.. Not a bonza idea at all. Bloody hot and way too low for "Wild" spaces. But, on the heat thing try and get a UV blanket thingy you could hang over the canvas tent helping to reflect the heat making it much more comfortable along with 2 solar fans
Thanks for sharing I started sleeping in a ten when i got married (I was 43) before that it was bedrol all over Botswana never had a serious problem That been said the predators get more and more chicky nowadays
Fantastic and our pleasure. Yes, predators are a lot more cheeky as a result of no fear towards us upright walkers. I err on the side of caution in the wild
Another awesome video. It seems that many of these roads can be traveled in a 4x2 high rise vehicle(2023 Ford Everest) with diff lock? Do you think it's possible? Keep up the great content. Thanks, Mike, Cape Town
Thank you Mike, yes it is possible in the drier months, but I wouldn’t advise it if travelling alone. The thicker sandy parts might catch you out, and for that you will need a 4x4. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but I am saying it’s the main reason I purchased a 4x4. All the best 🫡
Good day Mr Ryan. I m enjoying your episodes in Botswana Serowe town. I loved it. Is there any way in which car engines can be protected from this deep water crossings? Or this idea is not yet in car manufacturers and the like? But anyway this was great and i also loved that part of lions roaring in your camp, how was the experience
Yeh it was a crazy experience having lions in camp, for sure. The best bit of advice, stay away from water crossings. Any motor is subject to drowning. There are ways of kitting out a motor to protect it from water, but, it’s not something we do for fear of starving motors of air. Stay away from water, I was lucky
Great series Thank you so much and looking forward to getting out there . Interested to know what adjustable setting you used for the corrugated roads at 60 km/hr and the 4x4 sand tracks ?
Thank you. Front shocks adjusted for this trip from setting 3 to setting 4. Bang on point for the tough dog suspension and the weight of the rangers front end
Being a saffa living in Aus, swag in Africa for me is a no go, they heavy, hot, no space for your personals, I would rather look at a OZTENT RV series ! 30 second tent
Absolutely Peter. I concur with your concerns regarding a swag. Big one is space to freely move, and I suppose that’s the one major benefit with a 3m X 3m ground tent. Let’s see what happens and which way Rhys goes
Howzit Ryan I have a fridge freezer like yours , if there is not sufficient power to run it the compressor will not operate , it’s quite normal and the unit should be ok once you rectified your battery set up . By now you would know what the cause was ? One way to find out if the compressor is faulty is plug the Dometic into mains power 220volts .
Yeh so we did the above mentioned, plugging into mains, but the problem persisted. We found out that the compressor had blown as a result of not poor air circulation. The dometic is a great fridge, don’t get me wrong. The only slight issue is the ventilation is at the bottom, and it will battle in a closed environment if the air is not circulated, as per what happens in a tray and canopy. Thank you though for your suggestions legend 👌
@@4x4ventures_southafrica all good Ryan .. glad you found out the reason for the failure of the compressor , yes ventilation is critical . And yes they are excellent units the Dometic .. were you able to get a new compressor ? Stay well brother .. looking forward to more adventures with you guys ! Outstanding stuff .
1:20:33 Reese is hungry again.......where are we Reese? Chicken Licken....lol, you have to talk louder....CHICKEN LICKEN....( he had that guilty Sdumo face )...lmao. Come on Ryan let Reese have his Chicken Licken.
Not sure I agree. Wildlife/predatory attacks do happen and have happened. 6months nothing, next day it can go wrong. Not to over think, but rather advise on the side of caution. Thanks though
I have a Nissan nv350 caravan. I’m interested in knowing if I’d be able to access these places like Hwange and Gonarezhou in Zim ? What are some vehicle makes and models that you have seen over landing ?

Thanks Oliver, best bet is to go from Maun, through Mababe village to Khwai. You avoid tourist levies, park and vehicle fees when entering moremi
The world’s newest and greatest meme…..”Bone up a tree”😂
😂😂😂 they say you can’t chose family. Brilliant ol Rhys
😂😂😂 my man, we love our Chicken Licken. It’s tops mate, and Rhys was making me hungry. You know how it is with hungry chaps 🤙
Fag the swag, I built a bush camp in Manyeleti and slept in the open for 6 months, no fire arms either. People over think wildlife security 😊
Swag not for African wild areas
Thanks!
Thank you legend. Much appreciated 🤙
