South Africa's Toughest 4x4 Tracks | Cape Route Rally 2024

- Welcome to the first Cape Route Rally of 2024 and this is the 4x4 challenge edition. Our aim is to find the most challenging 4x4 tracks in South Africa.
Our convoy of 8 rigs made our way into the bush as we did a quick warmup lap of Koningskop 4x4 Track. We then bounced over to Marcuskraal to take on their track before heading to our overnight accommodation at Boegoeberg.
Day 2: The day started at the Lambersbay Dunes. After spending the morning playing the red-ish Kalahari powder sand we made our way to the Boegoeberg 4x4 track. We ventured to the top, and through the clouds and the rain we went, we even got hail ontop of the mountain. On our way down, Antony's Patrol took a quick nap on its side. Thankfully it was a slow tip-over and with 14 men strong, we managed to lift the Patrol back onto its wheels.
Day 3: After a quick fuel stop at Clainwilliam, we headed into the Cederberg. Today we would take on one of South Africa's toughest and steepest climbs. Johnny se Poort is an incredibly steep and rocky climb. Upon inspection, we found that the route has been blocked by a rockfall. Relieved, the group turned around and took a detour to the top of Johnny se Poort. This is where things got serious. Jokes about moving the rock and trying the track quickly become reality. Half of the rockfall was able to be cleared and soon enough we had 2 contenders willing to drive down Johnny se Poort. Slowly they slid they way down the track and with their nerves sky-high, the rest of the group decided to chicken out and take the detour back home for the night.
Day 4: The final day of the rally and after the adrenalin and nerve-wracking route of day 3, today was just a cool-down lap. The group made their way into the Tankwa via the Katbakkies pass. Prize-giving and final goodbyes were said at the Tankwa Padstal and this is were the Cape Route Rally of 2024 finished.
It was 4 days of absolutely awesome wheeling, good banter and memories that will last a lifetime. This is the start of big things to come!

Wow. Some of that rock slope was crazy man! Well driven to all! Big balls!!
It's even crazier in person! 😵
Probably the 1st South African 4x4 video that is really action filled and filmed well. 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks, I appreciate this comment!
Totally agree, the Aussie guys seem to have a handful of these . . . but looks a bit too costly on the mods & repairs!
Absolutely agree very good job
Agreed
I fully agree -I’ve beeen looking for South African 4x4 content and this is by far the best I’ve come across ❤🎉
Female from UK here- did 44 days SA,Bots &Nam last year -Hilux. Hats off to you guys- I never did anything near that challenging but I know the concentration it takes- you guys must have been done in at points. Great vlogging too btw.
We were done for afterwards, but it was so much fun!
What a stunning part of the world SA is definately on the bucket list. Thanks from brisbane Australia
Let us know when you plan to come visit, then we can show you around!
This is such rad content! More please! 👏
😎 Will do!
Eendag as ek groot is en my FJ afbetaal is en nie my daily en only is nie😁. Great video en rally @Dieter!
Ja nee, ek gaan maar n daily vir my moet kry. My arme bakkie gaan nie lank hou so nie! 🤣 Thanks!
One of the best SA 4x4 videos I've seen this far. Thank you! Awesome watch!
Thanks, appreciate the comment!
Best South African 4x4 so far.Keep up the good work
Awesome video Dieter! Looked like an epic, fun adventure! Would love to join sometime in the future, I think my Cruiser would do fine, minus the dune part lol🤣
😎 Thanks!
What an adventure! This looks awesome (minus the scratches and scrapes) 😄
Awesome 4x4ing! This is the best video I have ever seen on of off-road action, and I've watched US and Australian offerings 👋👌
Thanks, I appreciate the comment! 🔥
This was an epic epic watch! loved it. Very well put together! Definitely a bucket list item now, straight to the top!
Thanks!
Solid video
Good laugh with the boys
😁🔥
1:50 that laugh you just know they boys like that
😂🔥
Beautiful Defender :) If I could ask, what size rime and Tyres do u have?
I would have loved to see the FJ going down Johnny's poort.
Dan kom die oom met sy 2.4 plaas bakie daar op
Dit was Louis gewees en daai 2.4 plaas bakkie het lockers voor en agter gehad.
What front bumper is Jason in die 105 4.5 EFI running?? I will join you next time with my 105 🙂
It is a custom bumper his friend made
Dink julle moet n jimny in die groep kry dan sal julle sien... kort nie krag of size nie😂😂
Haha, net so.
South Africa needs more of these, and less Aussie wannabees.. epic trip guys.
Thanks, we appreciate this comment!
Hitting dunes dead on..no! Groups of guys downhill of an already rolled car with little escape route while trying to hold it up 🙄🤦♂️🤔 don’t make safety videos will you
I don't make safety videos, I document real life situations.
So glad I found a South African 4x4 channel finally! 🇿🇦🔥
Welcome!
Many more crazy adventures to come! 😎
Bloody hell 😅 guys!!!! This was a nail-biting one😮 AWESOME 👌 video Dieter cool 😎 pappie!!!!
😂 Thanks!
What a great watch. Makes me want to come and go for a wheel with you guys.
Thanks! There will be a few trips like this, so perhaps you can join us on one 🔥
@@DieterPeyI’m based in Australia so having a 4wd would be the hard part.
Bring your rigs over here for a tour 😁
@@MadMatt4WD like watching your videos. Very informative.
@@ismaeela2 Thanks mate.
Dieter's videos generally are of above average quality.
Thanks, I appreciate the comment! 🔥
When the going gets tough, only the tough keeps going!
Can we revive a type of "Camel Trophy" competition - the ultimate in 4x4 offroading - a "4x4 Olympics"?
That would be epic, we really should!
One of the best South African TH-cam channels for sure!
Thanks, I appreciate this comment!
This was so sick Dieter first time seeing such a lekker SA 4x4 video
Thanks! 😁🔥
Something about the video reminds of how people drive over speed bumps with dropped Vtec's and GTI's thinking its now a 4X4.
I have to edit and also say, this is probably the best 4X4 video I've seen so far. Hectic down hill moments with rocks falling and bakkie sliding.
😂🔥 Thanks for the comment
Awesome video 🔥 Epic routes 😳 Great rigs 👌 Fantastic camaraderie 👍😎
😎
What a great offroad serious 4x4 adventure ( aka OFFROAD ADDICT)
Thanks! 😁
I am definetly hitting a notification bell🇱🇸
Thank you! 😁🔥
This is not just about your skill level and how capable your 4x4 is.
This is mainly about how deep your pockets are, even when you do all the repairs yourself, as it should be.
So what went wrong with the Disco? Gear box?
Broke the transfercase
I have always been a huge fan of overlanding and some day I will own a 4x4 God willing to do so, Huge Fan of the channel Absolutely Love your content. for now I will take on this route in my Mark 1 volkswagen chico1.3. (stock standard) WISH ME LUCK 😁
😂😂😂 We'll have the tow ropes ready!
Puny wheels on that Discovery, no wonder it got stuck all the time
😂
What an awesome idea and very well produced video! Can't wait to binge watch some more of the channel :)
Thanks I appreciate it! 😁
Epic guys, how does one get invited to the next one ?
We're planning the next one for September. Keep an eye on the Cape Route Rally social pages for updates!
So next time you guys are game- call Erik de Meilander of Bushman’s Cave Bergteater- he has a Grade 5 called Klippekou. Absolutely brilliant trail.
Thanks, we'll save that for the next one! 🔥
As a South African I always support our content, however this is so well put together that its a pleasure to watch. Can we get some driver footage and occasional drone and under body videos showing suspension articulation.
excellent video and great to see south africans going hardcore off road
😁🔥
Thats next level..Well done guys
😁👏
Yes their is a thing as too much fun, and it is this video. After that y62 went on its side you guys got even more spirited
You need to include Jors Malan's trails. They offer a technical challenge of note.
Great stuff team. Well Done. I hope I can crack an invite to the next one.
So keen to join but there's no way I'm getting 200kw out of my 4.2 straight 6 diesel GU Patrol without some costly upgrades. Looks like so much fun though😁 Great video and filmed well. Looking forward to more.
Thanks! It's an expensive hobby. Driving tough routes like this, the risk of damage to the vehicles are extremely high.
First time I see you guys, I really liked the video, but at minute 15 you gained the like. in fact before minute 15 it cannot. I only saw skill from everyone, good work and a very good journey.
Thanks, I'm glad you like it! 😁
super cool shot at 17:07, love how they look all crawling down the dark mountain
also SICK DRIVE at 31:09 brave man!!!!
Thanks, we had a few crazy drivers! Next weekend I'll be posting a part 2 of this caliber driving and event.
This was mental😍😍
Thanks for being part of the camera team 😁🔥
What year and model is the Nissan patrol on 37’s,and does it have the v6?
Mooi Man👌🏽 Groete Van Die Limpopo Vallei 👏🏼👏🏼🙏🏽
Proper!
Insane!
Loved this. Now I have to go spend more money on my van😂😂😂. Awesome guys showing some south african tracks
😂😂
Balls of steel
Epic guys! Just epic...
Cool video. Would be great to do a colab video if you are ever close to Gauteng.
I'll keep in touch. Next year I'm planning a big roadtrip around SA 🔥
@@DieterPeyCool 👍🏻
Awesome video 💪🏻💪🏻
Why not content of Akela @dieter?
I was the man behind the camera. Difficult to wheel and film at the same time. I'll try and include more of Akela, but I'm there to work and document the event, not there to play 🙈😂
Baie Goed Gedoen Dieter!
Dankie!
Great idea for a rally could get more of this going in SA. hopefully will inspire others to create more off road tracks as well as more technical tracks.
Well done boys
Definetly don't need over 200kw! What is that 105 running? 160kw?
OTBT nice... looks like a really nice trip!!..
It was epic!
That last trail is just crazy 😲
Epic
Best catch phrase, Volgende Malnaai? Lol haha
😂👏
Has any normal thinking person ever done the Johnny set poort 😂
You guys are just crazy and I enjoyed watching you.
The dunes was fantastic
No I don't think any normal person is sane enough to attempt Johnny se Poort! 😂
Daai Defender mag maar👍🏻
Awesome video guys
That Cruiser going down the rock decline, I’d wet my pants if I was the driver.😂😂😂
We as onlookers wet our pants just looking at this! 🙈😂
Great adventure!
Well done guys, excellent video!
Thanks!
Great video and what an experience! Really enjoyed the content
Nice trails and driving lads! 💪🏼 What suspension are you running in the black Patrol?
He has a 4" RAW suspension in the Patrol
boet that looks too lekker! busy moding a td5 defender for some trails and disco 2 coming soon.
We look forward to seeing that build!
awesome video guys keep it up
Thanks! 🔥

Thank you, I appreciate the comment! 🔥
"You can't park there" 😂
I love this 4x4 video
What motor is in the Black Patrol?
Probably a TB48 4.8 straight six petrol
Volgende malnaai !😂
Great work Dieter, awesome video 👍
Thanks!
👌
WOW is that at Boegoeberg?
That's correct, it was Boegoeberg
Eish to think toppies in old Jeeps and landies created that trail for work purposes
Scary what erosion and no maintaince does to a track!
Very good Job Keep it Up 💯❤👍🙏 New Subscribe
Thanks! 👏
