High-Mile McLaren MP4-12C - (One Take)

- The McLaren MP4-12C was McLaren's first real, proper entry into the production car world, and like the first of anything, there were a few teething issues. The electronics are finnicky, the fit and finish isn't as good as the new cars, and there are no door handles at all. On the other hand, this car is, even four years on, even in the wet, an absolute masterpiece to drive, and the (relatively) low cost of entry for a low-mile MP4-12C these days means you can have a 600 HP McLaren on a 911 budget. As long as you save some for maintenance.

Only one of those things can be proven by the video.
I drive the roads daily, so based on how fast I go on these corners, id assume it's more around 75-80 on corners and 100 tops on straights. I could be wrong tho.

+TheSmokingTire Hey Matt just a heads up, you can calculate exactly how fast you are going just from the video. Using the frame rate and time along with a known distance, say for example that tunnel you went through, and then a bit of maths, and there you go. Speed = distance over time. Hopefully no one will do that, love your videos. All the best!!

That's awesome man! My 2012 12c just hit 30k miles. Never had the issues that this owner seems to have had. Haven't put more than $10k into it for service in the last 15k miles.
I definitely think this looks better than a 650s.

I rented this McLaren model in Vegas for 24hrs. When Matt says this car is fast, he is sooooo right! It is ridiculously fast as a stock car!!

It sure does not look stunning when it was launched especially next to the 458. But my has the design aged well. Very handsome yet understated look like an Aston. I'll take one in stealthy grey.

Great Video Matt, and Carl was very informative. The hydraulic suspension is now scaring me out of 12C. I will save for the 570S with a more conventional suspension.
Great job on these videos Matt, keep them coming! Have you guys every considered putting a camera on the tachometer of the cars and having it displayed in the corner next to the interior view? I feel like it gives the viewer a better sense of the car's acceleration.

I used to build these cars in 2013. Fully agree the mechanicals are excellent but body and trim are cheap.

I'm in the UK and a couple of my guys had the 12C and had nothing but trouble with them! One of them chopped it for the new 675LT and the other got so fed up with his he went back to a 458 Italia.

It looks well put together and McLaren are famous for their OCD so it's sad to hear they are not all together reliable. It will be interesting to know how later models hold up.
I also like the 12C styling. When I first saw it in metallic red I thought it looked gorgeous. The 650S is growing on me but it's mainly due to familiarity. To start will I thought it looked like a cut and shut.

I'm familiar with the early-production software/firmware issues and electrical gremlins. Curious what else they've run into. I'd say 30k at a rental agency is probably equivalent to 60+k in the hands of a careful/enthusiast owner.

I think matt got it right with the one takes. I fucking hate the magazines that won't even show you the road ahead but just some stupid guys face all the time. That being said, my favorite camera perspective gotta be the interior one where you see the steering wheel. The japanese magazine "Best motoring" uses it and I love it. Sometimes they also had cameras at the pedals to show you the exact inputs the drivers is doing, but maybe that's to much. I just think you really get a feeling for a cars' balance and handling with these sort of camera angles that's why I like the one takes a lot compared to the crappy shit out there.
+Dav id +1, he does this for rain only, but I vote to keep it like this for all one takes! :) defo feel the speed better, and you feel more connected to a particular car like this, otherwise its kinda like a drone video

I love how 32,000 miles is considered high mileage... meanwhile I have two BMW with way higher mileages- 183,000 miles and 213,000 miles. The only reason supercars have such low mileage is because their owners are afraid to drive them, most are more than capable of passing 100,000 miles with nothing but normal maintenance.
true, but normal maintenance is like $20-30 grand, and high milage destroys resale value on supercars.
TheRagingRyan weird how people care so much about low mileage with supercars. It almost seems counter-productive to never drive a car that's built to drive so well...
Matt said he was getting a drive in 675LT in two weeks time, but that video was 2 weeks ago. Obviously he has his Deloren time machine up and running!
