The McLaren 765LT is the lightened, tightened, and downforce'd version of the absolutely fantastic 720S Super Series coupe. It's got more power (755 of them, claimed), less weight, (176 lbs less), and more focus on just performance with new aero, exhaust, tuning, seats, and light glass. But the 720S was the most flexible high performance super sports car on the market - does narrowing the focus make it better or worse?

I was gassing up at an Exxon a few weeks ago and having a terrible morning. Shortly after I start my usual sequence, a rather interesting gentleman pulls up in one of these on the other side of the pump. Our neighborhood sees regular Landrovers, a Ferrari once in awhile, but this was the first Mc I'd seen roaming around. I was really trying hard to restrain myself, but I think he could see I was into it. He invited me over to look at it and seemed surprised that I knew exactly what it was, as in his encounters, no one else did. Apparently he was using his to commute (?!) as the inside was loaded up with luggage and suits. I didn't want to seem even more nosey at this point but I did wonder what he did for a living. He told me this was an upgrade from a 570s that was constantly in the shop, but this one was absolutely solid. Good to know when I get tired of my 07 lifted Tundra...
The color of his was fantastic, I think he said it was Laguna Blue, a few shades lighter than the one in the vid, and looked immaculate with a deep brown leather interior. Almost Italian shoe/saddle brown. I wish I wasn't in such a hurry as I'd be willing to bet we could have become amicable friends.
This thing looks miles better than a standard 720s. Bad ass
This car is just stupid on so many levels but in good way
Meh, it's going to be no fun 99% of the time as the fun is in revving a car out. You can't even rev this car out for 2 seconds without being hugely Iver the speed limit. None of these cars are actually fun to drive on the road. Even on circuit they are way too fast and grippy to enjoy. If you are going fast enough to lose control of this you are going to have a mega accident.

I'm a weight weenie for sure, and usually start every car discussion with some form of, "It's too heavy, but..." or "Despite it's excessive weight..." But 25 lbs for radio and AC is not even a difficult choice. A month of smart dietary decisions and some exercise and I can lose that much weight myself.
Really? You would trade 25lb for the ability to drive this thing in the summer?

I would argue that Chris Harris isn't a TH-cam reviewer any more, he's a Top Gear presenter now, but Chris Harris on Car's was one of the best series . Catchpole is superb too but mostly covers std cars while Matt has the hole spectrum covered. ✌️

I mean... it's probably faster. The latest hypercars are the 918, P1, LaFerrari from like 6 years ago.. I would venture to say this would outrun them all in a drag race, or on a track.
This would be the current hyper cars out side of the Chiron and agera , one:1 ragera in a race. This is fastest than the 918 , p1 , la Ferrari and the Paganini

Think this is the first on-road review of this thing and also the first truly positive review of it I've seen. Sounds like it's a bit spiky at the limit but an incredible road car

Pretty much the issue with any car that can exceed 200mph, its much more important HOW snappy and sorted the performance is getting to 200 than the ultimate top speed, because you almost need an airport runway or a closed road to ever use it otherwise. Even the long straight at most tracks will barely support low 200’s from most cars before they are forced to brake due to the turn.

In Dallas tx there is a tolls express 635 & you can easily hit 200mph & just cruise it’s a good 12 miles of straight smooth pavement. Great for 🇲🇽 runs

almost all supercars break easily, because they push the engine with twin turbo, high compression, (high temperature) etc, AND a lot of the owners abuse the car as well.
except supercars like porsche 911, i heard they were pretty reliable compared to other supercars. CMIIW
@@aldyfamily319 Not necessarily, if you watch pages like daily driven exotics, they beat on their cars and they are quite reliable especially their Murci. obviously it's going to be a different spectrum comparing it to something like a Toyota Corolla or even performance cars like the Evo or a Supra even, Porsche has always been a reliable brand as well as Audi like the R8

If you've ever heard a Lambo Huracan roar next to this thing, McClarens sound like Priuses with aftermarket exhaust in comparison.
@@Wickit96 The DDE Murci reliable?? It's spent more time in shops with the engine out than on the road driving! Already had to replace the block from the one that came in it being cracked. Although the other Lambo's they have seem very reliable for the abuse they receive. ✌️

Great review Matt, and I truly appreciate your comments comparing it to the 720S. It's all too easy to get caught up in the latest greatest models, but makes good sense to take a step back and compare them against what most people would probably appreciate on the street. The LT cars are for the most hardcore of their fans, as it should be!

This car basically makes buying hypercars that are 2-6 times price a total waste of money.
There are Nissan GT-Rs under one second 0-60 on Dragy. This ugly-ass thing is slow AF for the money. Plus, its a McLaren. They exist for one reason, to visciously abuse their customers with the worst values in automotive history, particularly on the maintenance side.

To think the base 720 is better than the 488 and the pista and now the next gen f8 I can’t even imagine this thing. Ferrari just can’t keep up. Interesting to see when somebody runs this car at the ring.
Dude the Pista shits on the 720S and almost every track. Straight line the 720S is faster but not by much. The SF90 Stradale will handle this car. Watch the top gear Lap the SF90 Stradale is the fastest car to run that track.
@@eichler721 I couldn’t find many times for the pista and the 720s. However the pista was 7 seconds faster on the Nurburgring. The 720s needs sport cup 2 tires to run its fastest. If the 720s was on better tires it would have won. As someone who knows a 720s owner and a pista owner the 720s is faster more fun to drive and better on some tracks with proper tires. As for the sf90 that’s 700-800k with options that competes more with the senna. The pista owner has one on order so we will see what it can do when it gets here.
@@Jay-tc9on here is the tracks both have been on and the Pista is faster on 11 of the 13 tracks with one of the 720S wins being a wet track.

@@Jay-tc9on the SF90 Stradale is 600k new base and a Senna is 800-1M dollars so its in-between the 765LT and the Senna. Watch Robert and Misha they are Apex taxi at the ring and Robert owned both the Pista and 720S and he states the Pista is faster and a better track car from the Factory. He runs around 200+ laps a year around the ring and some times over 500 depending on how busy he is.
@@eichler721 tires make a huge difference and the 720s competes with the 488 and now technically the f8. The 720s is faster on the street than a pista and with the right tires it’s faster on some tracks. The 765lt competes with the pista and it will be faster on the street and on track. The sf90 is 3-400k more different class.

Exactly. It’s no V12 Ferrari. In my opinion, the performance of these modern supercars is so absurd that wanting a car that’s marginally faster than another (which is also too powerful for the road) is just silly. That’s why I’d take an 812 or NA Lambo over these. They’re already insanely fast, and I want to hear that glorious engine.

the only good one is the AMG 4.0l because it sounds every bit as brutal as their older 5.5l, 6.2l, etc

This is faster than a P1 which isn’t that old in car terms. For $400k then it’s a bargain..

@@woah1106 He mentions in some of his recent videos that he's opposed to using mesh panels on the rear ends of supercars, because they prevent heat from escaping efficiently. That's why he designed the P1 and in particular the P1 GTR with such exposed rear sections. Most car designers however are worried that without the mesh, people will stick their hands into the car and burn themselves on the engine or exhaust system.
