First, thanks,,,, verrrry good.. Question: after 12 years of piano, my repertoire is wider than a few years ago. I play 2-3 pieces everyday ( sometimes, only the chalenging parts) in addition of my regular practice. What is the best way to add a new piece, without neglect my old songs.
I was taught classical piano, though I'm rusty! These days I prefer using instruments as an accompaniment for singing. Jazz chords are so beautiful, and there is so much freedom there. Classical piano is so much perfection, and jazz piano is so much freedom and feeling. I love bringing all the notes in there for those full sounds. So beautiful and dynamic.
I’ve been playing guitar for over a decade and always wanted to learn piano. I can’t believe how much I learned in less than 3 minutes, this is the single most helpful jazz piano video on the entirety of the internet, seriously.
Oh man, this is not just a video for teaching jazz on the piano. This is a great deal of yours and your not being stingy with your vast experience that you have learned in your life and giving it to us like this for free. I love you, man. I am following you from Egypt.❤
As a mid-level pianist (with 3-4 years of classical training), I was able to follow the tutorial and it feels right on point! It's a nice introduction to chord patterns and when I get more comfortable with the progressions, I can start to play with the melody. Thank you for this intro to jazz piano!
Dear Pianote crew. I am watching these videos from sri lanka and Jazz music teachers are so rare here. Please make A-Z vedio series to lern jazz properly ❤❤❤
Best channel for piano! Can’t believe how much I’m doing already just by doing the scales. Idk why people think scales are boring, I find them fun, really great for my brain
@@GuitarAngelTheFirst hope you found your answer a month later, anyways, I learned blues on guitar first, then found myself playing jazz. So, I think it would really help whatever the instrument. Regardless, wherever you start, keep at it. Also, knowing some basic music theory can really help. Good luck!
Great lesson and great explanations. Pianote instructors are the best. Other jazz piano videos I watch by other instructors are way above my level. This one, while requiring work, is at a level I can attain with enough practice. Thank-you, Kevin.
What a fantastic tutorial/ introduction to jazz. I'll be honest, I found the b section a little confusing just because of the pace. Would have been nice to have a playthrough of it like we did with the first part. BUUUUT with some pausing and clicking back fourth I was able to play the whole thing in not too much time at all. Thank you so much for this!!
First draw two circles, then add four lines for the horses legs, and then add some details for a perfect horse. That's how all jazz tutorials feel. Let's add some swing rythm, learn the 251 progression, and then just play jazz, oh by the way, none of the 251 chords will be played in the final song 😂
@@kevinfager. blud saying diminished bla bla bla and expecting a beginner to know while explaining 251 like a beginner wouldn't know, kinda a mess for me
I just wanted to say thanks a ton for your awesome lessons. I can't even put into words how much they've helped me in my everyday life.🙏 Seriously, thanks a million
Always wanted to try jazz, great instruction, easy to follow, thank you, 1st jazz song completed, now want to learn Autumn leaves, etc , but don’t know correct key to start with. Thank you Kevin, great lesson.
Sounded so good even though it’s a beginner piece. Love the sound of that C7. Makes such a difference to resolving to a C triad. I’ve always loved this tune whether by Ellington or others Good one Kevin!
It would be helpful if you mentioned all the songs mentioned in the video in the video description. For example, at 20:11 you list off those three songs, but in order to find those song names after watching the video, I had to scrub through and look for them.
Honestly just playing a 7th chord is a challenge for a beginner. Mine just sound horrible - presumably due to a lack of a proper technique. (I'm studying piano since half a year, can already play some short pieces from the Baroque era.) So I don't know how realistic it is - to teach a beginner by immediately jumping into 7th chord progressions.

Blues Piano 101: in progress. Jazz my next goal👍
We love to see that!
So should I be learning blues piano before jazz piano??

Don’t think it was meant for established musicians. It does say beginner in the title.
😂😂😂
This was nowhere near that bad, though. (You didn't recognize Satin Doll?)
