Hey Julian, I used to be a professional (classical) musician most of my life. I’ve been to a professional music school, got private lessons, studied music science at a university here in Germany,.. I changed my profession to Management couple of years ago but my heart will forever beat for music, so I continued playing on my own :) Playing jazz always seemed hard to me as a classical player so listening to your video and your calm and patient way of explaining helped me a lot. Thanks for this! I'm mostly a classical musician but I'm trying to branch out into Jazz. I really appreciate your videos.
This is the first video on TH-cam to usefully explain what notes to play with what chords by explaining the scales.
This is just insane wow. This entire video can be applied in 11 more scales as there are 12 ways to sing a song. Wow. Human brain is just amazing. Thank you sirn
this video is so well-timed because I just got back into piano yesterday and wanted to do exactly everything you said in this video
Perfect! I'm so glad this was good timing for you Toast!
As amazingly informative as this video is, i have to say my favourite part was how he just ended it without warning. No "thanks for watching", no "remember to like and subscribe", just an abrupt ending out of nowhere. Absolute chad move.
One of the best music theory I've ever seen...thanks!
One of the very best educational videos on this topic out there for beginners. Bloody brilliant. You explained. You contextualised. You showed where the boundaries are and demonstrated each principal perfectly.
Thank you so much. I'm at my piano now replaying this video to follow along.
I've been trying to learn jazz guitar for a bit. I didn't really understand the chord constructions and now thanks to this video this makes it all so much easier.
Hey. You are an explanatory genius. Cannot believe how concisely you’ve covered these topics! All the best and thanks for everything! 👌🏼😎😎🚀
wow!!! you've just unlocked a whole new level for me in 20 min
Omg thank you. wow, I can't believe how well you explained this and how easy this makes reading jazz chords now. I had no idea it was this simple!
As a french guy and someone without that much music theory I think this is the best music course I've ever attended❤
Thanks for this. I've had my guitar hobby now for 40 years and never touched on Jazz. It had always eluded me in understanding what it was all about and how it was constructed. I could never 'hear it' or 'follow it' and always gave up when trying to understand. This past 20 minutes has been a revelation. I now get it. Thank you so much for this video. You are a genius. Subscribed just for the hell of it to see what pops up.
Brilliant. Your style and pacing is really effective. Thanks very much for this.
FINALLY YOURE BACK🤩🤩I’ve been waiting for this for a while, time to get used to goosebumps again
Jonathan! Yes - finally. I've missed this. I have a ton of new material on its way, can't wait to share more!
Thank you. This is so clear music theory
This is the greatest comprehensive video i've ever seen. Simplified in a comprehensive way
Thank you. For years. I've been trying to understand what makes "jazz, jazz"! This has made me understand jazz way better. Thank you! I'm going to watch this video again when I have a piano in front of me. It's clicking, finally!

Good idea. I'll save this for next time I'm on the toilet
Same
You poop for 20 minutes?
As someone that plays some very simple bits of piano every now and then, the first 1/3 was very helpful for understanding the structure of chords a bit better.
What an excellent teaching. You ability to conceptualize the complexity of this form is incredible. What a gift to students worldwide - thank you!
You've explained a concept that I have been trying to understand for years. Sincerely, thank you good sir. +1 sub
Learn your modes folks.. the C Lydian scale is the G major scale starting on the 4th (c) and the C Dorian is the Bb major scale but starting on the 2 (c)
Thank you so much for the amazing explanation. I'm a classical pianist and I want to explore Jazz for a change. I didn't know how to start learning because the chords look so complicated haha. Thanks to you, I understand more now!
You are very kind person you are teaching free of deep understanding of jazz basic learning..i feel proud of you..thank you.
Listening to this for the first time. Julian says free download below and I hit “subscribe”. This is is amazingly generous.
What an amazing video. You explained it very well and now i have some tricks to work on in my improvisation. THANKYOU😱
Glad that there's another girl who's into jazz piano! Most of the jazz piano learners are Men, lol.

never thought I'd hear this in a jazz theory video lol. dolla dolla bill yo
Had to scroll too far to find this comment. For those interested, the original sample is from The Charmels - As Long As I've Got You
Why not? The original music is taken from a jazz record
That’s the type of tutorial I was always looking for
