This isnt about piano. this about the power of commitment and most of all. PRACTICING WITH PURPOSE. most people play 15 years and cant do this...because theyre not really practicing, theyre playing the same old crap at the same level for some odd years. practice with purpose in whatever it is youre doing people. This is a prime example of what you can do.
I don't think people realize how much 2000 hours is. In 2.5 years it's a crazy amount of hard work and consistency, I'm not surprised with the progress you were able to make because you have had to be very disciplined to be able to do this. Respect bro!
Came to say the same thing. I love seeing other people’s progress. It’s always a great inspiration to see other’s success. Been practicing on and off for a few weeks now, but this is the inspiration I needed to keep plugging away.
Lots of people believe this is fake. Most of them learned slowly and rigorously with sheet music and a teacher behind their back. When watching video like these they don’t understand, they can’t imagine the process. They never experienced being excited all day about practicing a hard piece for monthes everyday and seing little progress day by day. I can relate to this journey, in my first two years I was literally hooked to the piano, any moment of the day I was close to the piano, I played. When I didn’t play, I watched tutorials, masterclasses.. . For me, the reality is simple : motivation and muscle memory does the job. « Talent » is negligible in front of so much passion and effort. Anyways, congrats for that nice progress, fellow passioned pianist and I wish you all the best.

This is just incredible Luis! I am a professional pianist and I have spent countless hours practicing since I was four. You have a natural talent for piano as your hand coordination is excellent. You are also dedicated and driven. I think that is significant for one's progress. I am sure you have been learning a lot from watching videos when you were not practicing. It is equally important to study away from the piano. I am very interested to see how far you can go. Always push yourself further!
Thanks! During this period it was sheer dedication and drive for sure haha. My technique was not the best. Nowadays I do watch a lot of videos on technique and try to work on the musicality of the pieces rather than just pressing buttons. It is more rewarding for sure
This is testament to dedication and hard work. This is not what a typical person will look like at 2.5 years because the amount of focused practice you are putting in is similar to someone working a full time job. I think its awesome how far you've come! Keep it up!

As a kid who was a classically trained pianist (under my parent's compulsion 😆)and abandoned all of it for 15 years and just now picking up the craft back again - Wow, this is amazingly inspiring! It took me 10 years of experience to be able to master the Revolutionary Etude, and you've somehow taught yourself that and other similarly difficult pieces in only 2 years!! That's an unbelievable accomplishment- granted I never had the dedication or patience to practice for hours everyday like you do, but it just goes to show how far that perseverance can take you. You obviously also have a natural talent, to be able to teach yourself at such a high level. Bravo!!
Thank you! I only "learned" the first minute of Revolutionary Étude, and it's far from being perfect 😂 It's a shame that people quit playing because they follow a strict / not fun method. If you still want to play, try to play the stuff you really like to listen to. It doesn't need to be too strict. Also, a few lessons every other month can help a lot, instead of having that commitment every week 👍🏼
I think doing something like piano is very contingent on how you feel about it. For example, you seem to have disliked the piano due to being forced into it and so your motivation wont have been there, therefore meaning you would take longer to learn pieces. Whereas, this guy seems to adore the piano and so learning pieces would take little time really. Tbh, it’s just about how much you want it. If you want it enough then you’ll do it.
Completely the same, haven’t played for 15 years and bought myself an e piano now. Just spend 3 hours on it and it’s so nice to play again. Hope to be more motivated now that I’m not forced to play but chose it:) respect to this dude

@@Rqidz yeah, I was practicing 3-4h in the beginning, but then that became unsustainable. So over the 2.5 years I practiced around 2h a day on average, which is around 2000h. I didn't count the exact time haha
For anyone watching now, I will start having piano lessons 2x per month to improve my technique, musicality and learn to sight-read. It's been fun to self teach during the past 2.5y, but I feel like I need to work on those 3 aspects to be a better musician overall. Hopefully this will improve the quality of my videos and of my original compositions 👌🏼

@@luisgraca No. I can learn new pieces by TH-cam videos or by ear if they are easy to medium and repetitive. Would like to get better at improvising. I know where melody should go in my head, but finding the right chords is trial and error at this point. Keep it up!
@@luisgracai was wondering if you learnt to read sheet music at the same time? I'm also learning the piano myself (in a much slower pace), but I can't read rithems on sheet music. I use it to see what notes I need to play, but I need to hear the music to get the timing right. For example ,I just finished the Sultans of swing live solo ( uploaded it on my channel yesterday), I have the sheet music, but without the video of the person who wrote it on youtube, I would not be able to play it.
Hey, first of all - thank you! Second, don't be discouraged! It's very different to follow the classical piano training under a teacher and to be self-taught / learn whatever you want. If you are having trouble progressing, maybe try to work on pieces you really like! Also, you probably have better technique and can read much better than me 😉
@@Gajdosh Its legit, his technique is rather bad and hes constantly straining. I would say he spent most of his energy on learning the notes and managed to learn pieces so quickly because of that, only later improving his technique.
The pieces he's playing are really not that hard, I suppose you don't play piano yourself? Or are you just mad he's progressing faster than you are?@@Gajdosh

@@minim33n94 It's great! I ended up getting a Roland FP10 at my local music store - the guy there was very helpful. When I was a kid I would listen to the piano music in Minecraft; Wet Hands was my favourite - I promised myself I'd play it one day. I can play it flawlessly now. :D I'm not that interested in reading music; I just like to learn scale progressions and chords; sometimes I just sit in the evenings and play random stuff; I can even play parts of Fur Elise and I'm learning The River Flows in You now, it's tough but the progress makes it worthwile. Honestly my only regret now is that I waited half my life to realize how much I love this amazing instrument. Hats off to all of you that can play well, really, it's a super power.

I’m subbing because he seems to have a love of people; not just love of the practice. There is so much to learn here. He isn’t just dedicated to his practice by playing, he’s trying to spread the beauty of it so that more people can grace another’s ears, and the effects of the hearts and minds as a result of both playing, and listening. Playing an instrument is good for the mind, especially if it’s one of high aptitude due to a naturally overactive brain. If you have something akin to adhd, it’s said that your brain activity could be 7-12 times faster than average. That may sound good on the surface, but trust me, it’s actually quite miserable. A disciplined exercise, like playing an instrument, is great for you, or your children when their grades, and progress in life, generally speaking, are crawling. It isn’t always because they’re slow, it’s because it’s difficult to slow down enough to engage in common activities. If that wasn’t enough, he answers to anyone that bothers to ask. That’s rare for a video with3K comments.
Appreciate it! Around 3 years ago I went to a Ludovico Einaudi concert and I thought it was incredible how a man can inspire so many people with such simple melodies. From that moment I thought it would be great if I could do that for other people too. Through this progress video, I would like to inspire people to pick up the piano or to just dedicate themselves to whatever it is they love. Passion / love for something really does accelerate learning. I hope everyone can experience it one day. I've always found it a little sad that the people you follow / admire seem to be unreachable / won't reply, so I will keep replying to everyone as long as it's possible :)
I was playing Fantasie Impromptu back in late 2015 at 170bpm. Learned 3/4 of the song by memory/ear then over the years gave up on playing regularly. I wish I had persevered. Piano playing seems like such a chore now. I just focus on music production.
You can definitely get back to it if you're motivated enough. Playing the pieces you like helps. But if music production is what you like, keep at it! Good luck 👍🏼
What I admire is the ability to learn to play the piano (from scratch) without reading sheet music and the speed with which, right from the beginning (first month) you have so much hand coordination and such an extraordinary memory for the amount of pieces you play in such a short period of time and with only 2 hours of daily practice...

I have never played, but just ordered my first piano, and it can't get here fast enough. I wish I had started 40 years ago, but now that I'm retired, I have the time to devote to this fully! hope I can stay as motivated as you were during that first couple of years. YES, you have inspired me to start learning, again! Took about three years of lessons when I was 10 years old. Then puberty and hormones hit and I gave up piano for teenage girls. How I have regretted that many times. Now 68 and retired and electronic pianos are very affordable so getting ready to get back into it.

Haha, thanks. It may seem impressive but now I realize it lacks a lot of musicality. Anyone can memorize how to press the keys, but to play the pieces with emotion and musicality is something else - it's the true goal. I've been working on it since uploading this video

I started my piano journey and it was very reassuring, looking at your effort, to confirm my teacher’s saying that any literate person with the sense of rhythm and flexible digits can learn play piano via learning and practicing DAILY. One great pianist said the following: “If I don’t practice a day, I notice the difference. After two days my friends see the difference (I guess he meant his piers), after 3 days the public will take a note”. So, “regular people” buckle up, put some rubber pants on and stop whining and making excuses! Bravo Luis, keep playing, improving and inspire us all! 👏👏👏❣️

I love seeing all the comments from people finding piano again (or for the first time) at 40, 50 and beyond. Leads me to think that there seems to be a collective shift at some point early in our creative lives that sees us abandon that side. At 45, I've rediscovered my love of dance, and now (like so many others here) am seriously contemplating buying my first keyboard, after giving it up in my teens. Good luck to everyone ❤

This was so inspiring. You’re truly gifted and watching this choked me up. I took lessons for a couple years starting when I was 10 but I didn’t take it seriously not knowing that 30 years later I would profoundly regret it. I was at my parents house two weeks ago and after not touching the piano for decades, something came over me and I had to start playing. Clair de Lune and The Godfather theme. I sat for hours and hours. My mom and dad’s favorite songs respectively. My mom passed unexpectedly and I’ve been in tremendous grief and I felt more therapy in beginning to learn how to play then I have in years of actual therapy. I can only dream to one day play like you. Thank you for sharing your progress. I hope to be able to share a video like this someday.

you have a pretty good story. my whole life i couldnt play the piano up until a few months ago when i found out i had relative pitch and started playing songs from my head and i figured out i could play literally anything without learning it which blows my mind to this day. i can play any song i can sing and ive never been taught anything
Kann das nur bestätigen. Es ist verdammt harte und viel Arbeit um einigermaßen spielen zu können. Das ist für mich, immer wieder, wie ein spannendes Rätsel das gelöst werden will. Habe mir durch viel Theorie am Anfang, bis zu 4 Online Kursen im Internet, vieles beigebracht. Ich war ein absoluter blutiger Anfänger, ich wusste nichts über ein Keyboard. Ich traue mir zu sagen, daß ich stolz darauf bin, was ich in 3 Jahren alles gelernt habe, alles durch Lesen, Videos schauen, und natürlich üben..üben...üben....üben ! Drotz einem Vollzeitberuf.Und ich mache weiter! Sicher werde ich kein Vollprofi mehr. Aber es macht einfach Spaß, und es nimmt einem den Stress.

i started crying after watching this video, it came at the right moment when i was about to give up on my journey, i'm a high school student but the exam i'm preparing is the toughest in the world, we're expected to sacrifice a lot of things for it, but i wanted to make sure music wasn't one of the things. this saved me, anything is possible with time management and patience. my progress so far is trying to master the pieces way above my level literally in the starting, la campanella and mvmt 3, i'm stuck in the first 20 seconds and now i know why, i'll go step by step patiently, i'll follow your footsteps 🙏thank you
Thank you for the kind words 🙏🏼 Don't give up, even if you just play a little every day during the exam period, you will make progress. Try to create a schedule with what you will work on so you don't waste any minute! Also, if you want to play Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement or La Campanella, I suggest you get a teacher. Even 1 or 2x per month helps a lot. Those pieces are very advanced and it's easy to get frustrated and give up if you don't know how to practice them properly
While I will never be able to put in the hours you have, it is still incrediablly motivating to see how much progress can be madeif you just practice cosistantly! I just hope that I can make playing piona a routine that and stay motivated, so that it becomes a way to relax and just zone out of the daily struggle.

Amazing motivation. I teach some young kids in private, 5 year later they still can't read notes and no way to fix that, the motivation in only on parents. Keep the good work !

As a pianist and a piano teacher, I admire your perseverance and your tenacity to learn difficult pieces way above your level. Though I'd recommend you take the time to learn other pieces before reaching them and use them as a stepping stone. Note: The 1st movement for Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata is more difficult than the 3rd one. Keep up the good work

A couple of weeks ago I bought a piano (Yamaha P45) for my 10-year-old son for his first piano lessons. I said to myself, I might give it a try myself! After all, I love and have always loved music (from Classical to Pop). Then I saw your video (in life nothing happens by chance) and so, at almost 50 years old, I started with video tutorials and Flowkey. You have been a great inspiration, thank you. This is so impressive, so much hard work, and what fantastic progress you've made! I bought myself a piano 6 months ago and it's a present that keeps on giving, so I can totally relate to your urge to spend hours playing every day! As an amateur violinist with quite a bit of classical training I started with the advantage of knowing how to read music as well as a lot of music theory, but I've been teaching myself the same way you are, by learning to play pieces I love (mainly Chopin). Like you, I find closely listening to interpretations by pianists I admire hugely helpful, too. Learning this way takes patience and dedication (again, hats off to you!) but it's so much fun! Dunno if you'd agree, but one thing I've realised is that as soon as I think I've 'cracked' a piece in terms of knowing how to play all the notes, in terms of the musicality of the piece I'll have only just begun. So whenever you revisit easier pieces for fun in between working on a more recent challenge, there's still so much to explore, and as a piece slowly becomes effortless and pliable you stop thinking about the notes at all and really focus on telling the story of the piece. For me, that's the best feeling ever!
Thanks a lot, Serp! Being able to read and knowing music theory is an advantage for sure. Absolutely, learning the notes is easy, actually playing them with the right dynamics, technique, musicality... That's another story haha. And to be honest I don't revisit pieces I played in the past much, there's just so many I want to play and so little time! I've been focusing on making my own arrangements of film soundtracks lately. My biggest sources of inspiration are Patrik Pietschmann (film music) and Traum Piano (classical). I can't really describe what I feel when I listen to them playing. To think that one can achieve that level of mastery is incredibly inspiring and that always keeps me going. By the way, violin and piano are a great combo, hats off to you too! Do you play for fun or would you like to turn it into a career?
As someone whos played piano for about 15 years seeing your progress is amazing. I think most people get intimidated learning new instruments because of how many years others have played but youve really shown that its not about how long youve played but how passionate you are. If you learn songs you love you'll easily progress as a musician. A couple of tips to help reach the next level: practise scales and arpeggios (these translate very well to more advanced pieces and even songwriting but make sure to deliberately practise your technique very carefully (maybe look up some videos for good technique)), practise very expressively exaggerating even small changes in tempo or dynamics (and try playing with different interpretations to master playing expressively). You should especially focus on bringing out the melody (involves certain notes being played louder). Those are really your only gaps right now (unless you count jazz but thats a different beast entirely). Oh and maybe look a little bit into wrist movement too. Cant wait to see your future progress, at this rate you'll become a professional in no time!

Indeed after uploading this video I looked for a teacher to have some guidance and I started practicing more scales, arpeggios, chords, etc. Musicality/dynamics is still a challenge haha As for jazz, I don't appreciate it much so I'm not planning to play it any time soon. Right now I'm focusing on making piano arrangements of film soundtracks and I use that as a way of practicing arpeggios and other techniques, it's been great!
Seeing you practice piano for at least 2 hours a day makes me realize that I am not working hard at all...In fact, I haven't even reached 1000 hours of my total practice time in my life. I am 17 years old and seeing this video made me rethink my laziness twice. Your passion for piano is very great! ❤

I couldn't resist leaving a comment under your video, although I do it very rarely... First of all, I want to express my great gratitude for the fact that you told your story so frankly and honestly, and in the case of the piano, opened your soul. I graduated from music school in piano class, enrolled before I even started school, the result is a red diploma and 8 years of my pure love for the world of music, and especially the piano. But now it's time for university, and I left home, I haven't played the piano for 2 years, which still tears my soul apart. Soon the moment will come when my instrument will return to me again and I will finally be able to reunite with it, start my little path of remembering again, I dream of playing a Revolutionary etude, Fantasie Impromptu op.66 and Chopin's Ballade n.1 in G minor, during all my studies I played Bach and Mozart the most, but the most interesting of Chopin bypassed me by the side. I am very afraid that during these 2 years some skills have gone away from me, but your video has given me a lot of motivation, strength and peace of mind that everything will work out. This is most definitely real for all those haters out there. Most important thing I have learned in piano is very simple and I hope everyone agrees: NEVER COMPARE YOUR PROGRESS TO LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE. All that is going to do is make you not motivated and discourage you from being better. Everyone learns at their own pace and some people just learn insanely fast for whatever reason lol! People say it's fake because I learned too fast, but I've seen other guys progress even faster. Dude im blown away with this. I started playing piano at 6 and used fantasie impromtu as one of my audition pieces to get accepted into music school. On a different career path now but you showed me how easy I could repair my talent when im willing to dedicate the time for it. Professional Tip I can share. The part of fantasie impromptu you started with. For any runs or repetive patterns you find hard to play smooth, just rehearse that part repetitively but accenting the notes 2 different ways. Like long short long short long short long short several times. Then short long short long short long short long several times. While doing this, Play the long note loud for those 2 patterns, then try to play it smoothly and watch what happens 😉 This progression is unbelievable. To the person who's comment you pinned regarding passion. You do appear to have a talent that was found late. Passion and talent go hand in hand. Stay passionate!

hey I started piano about 3 months ago and in many other domains I have seen that doing a very hard thing again and again will boost your progression. So I am training to play Moonlight Sonata (full/ currently working on 3rd movement). I can do the first minute with both hands now. This isnt about piano. this about the power of commitment and most of all. PRACTICING WITH PURPOSE. most people play 15 years and cant do this...because theyre not really practicing, theyre playing the same old crap at the same level for some odd years. practice with purpose in whatever it is youre doing people. This is a prime example of what you can do.

I don't think people realize how much 2000 hours is. In 2.5 years it's a crazy amount of hard work and consistency, I'm not surprised with the progress you were able to make because you have had to be very disciplined to be able to do this. Respect bro!

Lots of people believe this is fake. Most of them learned slowly and rigorously with sheet music and a teacher behind their back. When watching video like these they don’t understand, they can’t imagine the process. They never experienced being excited all day about practicing a hard piece for monthes everyday and seing little progress day by day. I can relate to this journey, in my first two years I was literally hooked to the piano, any moment of the day I was close to the piano, I played. When I didn’t play, I watched tutorials, masterclasses.. . For me, the reality is simple : motivation and muscle memory does the job. « Talent » is negligible in front of so much passion and effort.
Anyways, congrats for that nice progress, fellow passioned pianist and I wish you all the best.

This is just incredible Luis! I am a professional pianist and I have spent countless hours practicing since I was four. You have a natural talent for piano as your hand coordination is excellent. You are also dedicated and driven. I think that is significant for one's progress. I am sure you have been learning a lot from watching videos when you were not practicing. Nowadays I do watch a lot of videos on technique and try to work on the musicality of the pieces rather than just pressing buttons. It is more rewarding for sure

As a kid who was a classically trained pianist (under my parent's compulsion 😆)and abandoned all of it for 15 years and just now picking up the craft back again - Wow, this is amazingly inspiring! It took me 10 years of experience to be able to master the
Revolutionary Etude, and you've somehow taught yourself that and other similarly difficult pieces in only 2 years!! That's an unbelievable accomplishment- granted I never had the dedication or patience to practice for hours everyday like you do, but it just goes to show how far that perseverance can take you. You obviously also have a natural talent, to be able to teach yourself at such a high level. Bravo!!

It's a shame that people quit playing because they follow a strict / not fun method. If you still want to play, try to play the stuff you really like to listen to. It doesn't need to be too strict. Also, a few lessons every other month can help a lot, instead of having that commitment every week 👍🏼
I think doing something like piano is very contingent on how you feel about it. For example, you seem to have disliked the piano due to being forced into it and so your motivation wont have been there, therefore meaning you would take longer to learn pieces. Whereas, this guy seems to adore the piano and so learning pieces would take little time really. Tbh, it’s just about how much you want it. If you want it enough then you’ll do it.

@@Rqidz yeah, I was practicing 3-4h in the beginning, but then that became unsustainable. So over the 2.5 years I practiced around 2h a day on average, which is around 2000h. I didn't count the exact time haha

For anyone watching now, I will start having piano lessons 2x per month to improve my technique, musicality and learn to sight-read.

@@luisgraca No. I can learn new pieces by TH-cam videos or by ear if they are easy to medium and repetitive. Would like to get better at improvising. I know where melody should go in my head, but finding the right chords is trial and error at this point. Keep it up!
That's great, I've been practicing playing by ear as well. I prefer that rather than reading sheet music, but sheet music is great for classical
@@luisgracai was wondering if you learnt to read sheet music at the same time? I'm also learning the piano myself (in a much slower pace), but I can't read rithems on sheet music. I use it to see what notes I need to play, but I need to hear the music to get the timing right. For example ,I just finished the Sultans of swing live solo ( uploaded it on my channel yesterday), I have the sheet music, but without the video of the person who wrote it on youtube, I would not be able to play it.

Second, don't be discouraged! It's very different to follow the classical piano training under a teacher and to be self-taught / learn whatever you want. If you are having trouble progressing, maybe try to work on pieces you really like!
Also, you probably have better technique and can read much better than me 😉
@@Gajdosh Its legit, his technique is rather bad and hes constantly straining. I would say he spent most of his energy on learning the notes and managed to learn pieces so quickly because of that, only later improving his technique.

@@minim33n94 It's great! I ended up getting a Roland FP10 at my local music store - the guy there was very helpful. When I was a kid I would listen to the piano music in Minecraft; Wet Hands was my favourite - I promised myself I'd play it one day. I can play it flawlessly now. :D
I'm not that interested in reading music; I just like to learn scale progressions and chords; sometimes I just sit in the evenings and play random stuff; I can even play parts of Fur Elise and I'm learning The River Flows in You now, it's tough but the progress makes it worthwile.
Honestly my only regret now is that I waited half my life to realize how much I love this amazing instrument.

I’m subbing because he seems to have a love of people; not just love of the practice. There is so much to learn here. He isn’t just dedicated to his practice by playing, he’s trying to spread the beauty of it so that more people can grace another’s ears, and the effects of the hearts and minds as a result of both playing, and listening. Playing an instrument is good for the mind, especially if it’s one of high aptitude due to a naturally overactive brain. If you have something akin to adhd, it’s said that your brain activity could be 7-12 times faster than average. That may sound good on the surface, but trust me, it’s actually quite miserable. A disciplined exercise, like playing an instrument, is great for you, or your children when their grades, and progress in life, generally speaking, are crawling. It isn’t always because they’re slow, it’s because it’s difficult to slow down enough to engage in common activities.
If that wasn’t enough, he answers to anyone that bothers to ask. That’s rare for a video with3K comments.

Around 3 years ago I went to a Ludovico Einaudi concert and I thought it was incredible how a man can inspire so many people with such simple melodies. From that moment I thought it would be great if I could do that for other people too. Through this progress video, I would like to inspire people to pick up the piano or to just dedicate themselves to whatever it is they love. Passion / love for something really does accelerate learning. I hope everyone can experience it one day.
I've always found it a little sad that the people you follow / admire seem to be unreachable / won't reply, so I will keep replying to everyone as long as it's possible :)
I was playing Fantasie Impromptu back in late 2015 at 170bpm. Learned 3/4 of the song by memory/ear then over the years gave up on playing regularly. I wish I had persevered. Piano playing seems like such a chore now. I just focus on music production.
You can definitely get back to it if you're motivated enough. Playing the pieces you like helps. But if music production is what you like, keep at it! Good luck 👍🏼
What I admire is the ability to learn to play the piano (from scratch) without reading sheet music and the speed with which, right from the beginning (first month) you have so much hand coordination and such an extraordinary memory for the amount of pieces you play in such a short period of time and with only 2 hours of daily practice...
The pieces were pretty repetitive so it just becomes muscle memory haha

YES, you have inspired me to start learning, again! Took about three years of lessons when I was 10 years old. Then puberty and hormones hit and I gave up piano for teenage girls. How I have regretted that many times. Now 68 and retired and electronic pianos are very affordable so getting ready to get back into it.

I started my piano journey and it was very reassuring, looking at your effort, to confirm my teacher’s saying that any literate person with the sense of rhythm and flexible digits can learn play piano via learning and practicing DAILY. One great pianist said the following: “If I don’t practice a day, I notice the difference. After two days my friends see the difference (I guess he meant his piers), after 3 days the public will take a note”. Leads me to think that there seems to be a collective shift at some point early in our creative lives that sees us abandon that side.

This was so inspiring. You’re truly gifted and watching this choked me up. I took lessons for a couple years starting when I was 10 but I didn’t take it seriously not knowing that 30 years later I would profoundly regret it. I was at my parents house two weeks ago and after not touching the piano for decades, something came over me and I had to start playing. Clair de Lune and The Godfather theme. I sat for hours and hours. My mom and dad’s favorite songs respectively. My mom passed unexpectedly and I’ve been in tremendous grief and I felt more therapy in beginning to learn how to play then I have in years of actual therapy. I can only dream to one day play like you. Thank you for sharing your progress. I hope to be able to share a video like this someday.

you have a pretty good story. my whole life i couldnt play the piano up until a few months ago when i found out i had relative pitch and started playing songs from my head and i figured out i could play literally anything without learning it which blows my mind to this day. i can play any song i can sing and ive never been taught anything

Drotz einem Vollzeitberuf.Und ich mache weiter! Sicher werde ich kein Vollprofi mehr. Aber es macht einfach Spaß, und es nimmt einem den Stress.

i started crying after watching this video, it came at the right moment when i was about to give up on my journey, i'm a high school student but the exam i'm preparing is the toughest in the world, we're expected to sacrifice a lot of things for it, but i wanted to make sure music wasn't one of the things. this saved me, anything is possible with time management and patience.

Don't give up, even if you just play a little every day during the exam period, you will make progress. Try to create a schedule with what you will work on so you don't waste any minute!
Also, if you want to play Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement or La Campanella, I suggest you get a teacher. Even 1 or 2x per month helps a lot. Those pieces are very advanced and it's easy to get frustrated and give up if you don't know how to practice them properly

While I will never be able to put in the hours you have, it is still incrediablly motivating to see how much progress can be madeif you just practice cosistantly! Amazing motivation. I teach some young kids in private, 5 year later they still can't read notes and no way to fix that, the motivation in only on parents. Keep the good work !

As a pianist and a piano teacher, I admire your perseverance and your tenacity to learn difficult pieces way above your level. Though I'd recommend you take the time to learn other pieces before reaching them and use them as a stepping stone.
Note: The 1st movement for Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata is more difficult than the 3rd one.

This is so impressive, so much hard work, and what fantastic progress you've made!
I bought myself a piano 6 months ago and it's a present that keeps on giving, so I can totally relate to your urge to spend hours playing every day! As an amateur violinist with quite a bit of classical training I started with the advantage of knowing how to read music as well as a lot of music theory, but I've been teaching myself the same way you are, by learning to play pieces I love (mainly Chopin). Like you, I find closely listening to interpretations by pianists I admire hugely helpful, too. Learning this way takes patience and dedication (again, hats off to you!) but it's so much fun!
Dunno if you'd agree, but one thing I've realised is that as soon as I think I've 'cracked' a piece in terms of knowing how to play all the notes, in terms of the musicality of the piece I'll have only just begun. So whenever you revisit easier pieces for fun in between working on a more recent challenge, there's still so much to explore, and as a piece slowly becomes effortless and pliable you stop thinking about the notes at all and really focus on telling the story of the piece. For me, that's the best feeling ever!

Absolutely, learning the notes is easy, actually playing them with the right dynamics, technique, musicality... That's another story haha. And to be honest I don't revisit pieces I played in the past much, there's just so many I want to play and so little time! I've been focusing on making my own arrangements of film soundtracks lately.
My biggest sources of inspiration are Patrik Pietschmann (film music) and Traum Piano (classical). I can't really describe what I feel when I listen to them playing. To think that one can achieve that level of mastery is incredibly inspiring and that always keeps me going.
By the way, violin and piano are a great combo, hats off to you too! Do you play for fun or would you like to turn it into a career?
As someone whos played piano for about 15 years seeing your progress is amazing. I think most people get intimidated learning new instruments because of how many years others have played but youve really shown that its not about how long youve played but how passionate you are. If you learn songs you love you'll easily progress as a musician. A couple of tips to help reach the next level: practise scales and arpeggios (these translate very well to more advanced pieces and even songwriting but make sure to deliberately practise your technique very carefully (maybe look up some videos for good technique)), practise very expressively exaggerating even small changes in tempo or dynamics (and try playing with different interpretations to master playing expressively). You should especially focus on bringing out the melody (involves certain notes being played louder). Those are really your only gaps right now (unless you count jazz but thats a different beast entirely). Oh and maybe look a little bit into wrist movement too. Cant wait to see your future progress, at this rate you'll become a professional in no time!

As for jazz, I don't appreciate it much so I'm not planning to play it any time soon. Right now I'm focusing on making piano arrangements of film soundtracks and I use that as a way of practicing arpeggios and other techniques, it's been great!

I couldn't resist leaving a comment under your video, although I do it very rarely... First of all, I want to express my great gratitude for the fact that you told your story so frankly and honestly, and in the case of the piano, opened your soul. I graduated from music school in piano class, enrolled before I even started school, the result is a red diploma and 8 years of my pure love for the world of music, and especially the piano. But now it's time for university, and I left home, I haven't played the piano for 2 years, which still tears my soul apart. Soon the moment will come when my instrument will return to me again and I will finally be able to reunite with it, start my little path of remembering again, I dream of playing a Revolutionary etude, Fantasie Impromptu op.66 and Chopin's Ballade n.1 in G minor, during all my studies I played Bach and Mozart the most, but the most interesting of Chopin bypassed me by the side. I am very afraid that during these 2 years some skills have gone away from me, but your video has given me a lot of motivation, strength and peace of mind that everything will work out. Dude im blown away with this. I started playing piano at 6 and used fantasie impromtu as one of my audition pieces to get accepted into music school. On a different career path now but you showed me how easy I could repair my talent when im willing to dedicate the time for it.
Professional Tip I can share. The part of fantasie impromptu you started with. For any runs or repetive patterns you find hard to play smooth, just rehearse that part repetitively but accenting the notes 2 different ways. Like long short long short long short long short several times. Then short long short long short long short long several times.
While doing this, Play the long note loud for those 2 patterns, then try to play it smoothly and watch what happens 😉

I recently fell in love with this piece, but I did not dare to try, as I thought I could not manage this... Well... I tried and memorized it within four weeks! It still needs some technical improvement, especially the last part. By the way ‐ your dynamics (in minute 4) are not bad at all, in my humble opinion! I want to play this piece till the day I die... ❤️ I can not even describe how fulfilling and passionate it is for me to play it! hey I started piano about 3 months ago and in many other domains I have seen that doing a very hard thing again and again will boost your progression. So I am training to play Moonlight Sonata (full/ currently working on 3rd movement). I can do the first minute with both hands now. Stunning! Consistency and patience is everything. I spent so many hours in basic songs and now i just sit down and can play them with my eyes closed. The piano is such a beauty! Congrats!

Definitely go for it. I learned it for about 2 weeks when I was 21, but I only started it for real when I was 23
