yeah, and you can get an extra hit if you delay your aerial attack, since you deal damage in the air for just going forward. (so ground run damage, air run damage, then aerial poke).
imho the best Tip for beginner lance users is what i call Lazy poking rather than mashing the button when poking you should: tap. wait. tap. wait. tap. wait. why that you ask? well the combo will come out just the same... BUTT! doing it like that allow you to replace any of the pokes with a counter, a guard dash, a hop, whatever if the need arises it is what opens up the lance playstyle of sticking to the monster like glue, while reacting to anything it does.
I find really funny that before I tried lance I thought that it was a passive and defensive weapon, but I found out soon enough how hyper aggressive I could be with it while being safe from damage
I went from longsword to greatsword to dual blades to gun lance and then lance. I honestly thought I would never use lance but it’s fun and I find it satisfying poking the monster continuously and it not being able to fight back because you keep blocking.

Normally, when a monster is enraged, they can easily knock you off when you Clutch Claw on them. From what I've noticed with Lance using the Counter Claw, the monster doesn't knock you off immediately even when enraged, so Lance is actually very good at keeping up tenderizer on the monster. This wasn't always the case when Iceborne first dropped because I remember being knocked off and taking damage after doing a Counter Claw on to the monster, so I think it must have been an update to buff Lance. I've been a Lance main for a long time but I really appreciate the video. It's an easily overlooked weapon because when people see a big shield, they immediately think it's just a weapon for a tank playstyle. It's because of the counters that Lance can keep up aggression on monsters better than most weapons tbh.
Counter claw can get you multiple wall bangs per run without rocksteady mantle or staggering the monster. Wear the deco that adds slinger ammo. Use counterclaw to get to the monster's head and do a wall bang. Then repeat. As long as the monster is not enraged, you can keep wallbanging.
Clutch claw is only available if you have the Iceborne DLC. A few weapons have built in clutch claw attacks like the Dual Blades and the Lance. However, if you want to use the clutch claw normally, you just have to have your weapon sheathed and aim (holding down L2/LT) and press the circle/b button to grapple on a monster.
Pro tip: punish enemies or go for stagger using the sprinting charge attack. You can combo from basically any attack straight into a charge, which can do 130-200 damage (when optimized) on even the first tier stab, the second tier stab being even stronger. It’s much stronger than just spamming your regular poke and you have a moment to get in your regular combo immediately after.

Personally, if I’m far from the monster I prefer to turn around and back hop, it’s a lot faster and travels further than guard dash, however it’s a bit more dangerous, so better for intermediate players😂

Divine blessing reduces any sources of damage including the chip of guarding attacks. This helps a lot in fatalis when blocking his breath attacks

Another thing to keep in mind is that lance is great for mounting. Charge+jump+attack counts as a mounting attack

for me lance is so satisfying weapon every time you will counter the enemy you gain no damage and you can cintinue ur attack again..

Vaal hazzak set bonus or blackveil helps quite a bit as well that passive regen helps more than it may seem at times but it’s not always needed

Evade Extender is also great for evading attacks. The lance charge and jump attack is so damn good for mounting monsters as well! Lance FTW ! 🔥
Claw counter can also be done by going into counter stance (r2 + circle) and hold L2. This does drain stamina so you can't hold it forever.

Resentment is really good because you take chip damage when you block so this is up most of the time. Also mind's eye is nice to prevent bouncing
