Tip when playing multiplayer: As soon as you reach MR3 you should have 2x Dust of Life, 4x Gloamgrass Bud+ 4x God bug to craft more(both of these can be cultivated) in your loadout. This is a life saver! For 3 items slots you get 6 almost instant heals for the whole team and helps so much when someone is stunned or about to cart. I have saved so many teammates with this but it's frustrating when you're the one that's stunned and they can't heal you because no one on the team has Dust of Life. This should be the #1 tip on everyone list for multiplayer
Another super useful tip is tranq bombs have their own status condition with a duration, so you can tranq bomb a sleeping monster first, then place your trap. This can be niche but if you like to trap a lot during a fight especially against things like Barioth to give you time to break its limbs, or if you run Bugtrapper Palico, it makes it a lot easier than trying to get 2 tranqs in a potentially 3 second window.
One time capturing a pukei I laid the trap just before the monster was in the threshold to be captured, and I only realized that after I threw him the tranqs. So out of frustration I slapped that fucker with my gunlance while he was still in the trap and surprisingly, that did enough damage to put the monster in the threshold. Because he was trapped and the tranqs were still on effect, I ended up capturing it. It was far for my intentions when I did that but I am very glad it worked lol.
As a newcomer to the MH series and in addition also pretty late to the party at that since Wilds is already around the corner of the year - literally -, your videos and tips not only boosted my understanding of the game's massive array of mechanics - both hidden and obviously explained by the game - but also it helped me to tweak my entire first playthrough (which I am still on currently - 110 hours and just beat the base game) with countless quality-of-life-settings. Thank you kindly for successfully holding the overwhelming mass of information at bay for me and cut them into more digestible portions. A real goat in your own right and I'd tip my hat to you if I'd wear one ~
While playing through the story there are several sections where you have to gather tracks during expeditions and optional quests before you unlock the next main quest. These "special investigations" can be quite tedious and annoying. So, as soon as you get to High Rank farm some small Jagras to craft the "Hunter's Headgear Alpha". This helmet gives the the skills "Scoutfly Range Up" and "Scholar", which increase the range of your track "radar" and speed up the progress per track found by 20% respectively. Quite helpful for these "quests".
Bottom left. Monster icon. Under the portrait is an ECG. If the monster is not enraged, the amplitude of the ECG waves indicate the monster's hp. A flatter trace indicates it is about to die. (Therefore being more of a CTG?) Also you can turn on the silhoutte option in the options menu to make life easier
Limping, Skulls on the minimap from the monster icon and most importantly if the monster manages to escape and you find it somewhere sleeping in whatever might seem like a nest, put a trap and give it 2 tranq bombs cause you got it in the bag, besides elder dragons, those you only slay but you get more than the usual 3 carves
@tommywenis ive gotten mantels and gems from caps so it is possibility carves are just 1% chance higher than cap. But thats a 1% to 2% chance increase usually
Super useful! I learned a couple new things despite having a couple hundred hours in the game. It's a little obnoxious how "raw is king" yet it's fairly complicated to calculate your weapon's raw damage, between affinity, sharpness multipliers, and that arbitrary weapon type modifier they slapped on...
Did not know I could hold the input down to gather, that’s fantastic. Also didn’t know I could use geology in GL to get the shinys twice. Also didn’t know about negative affinity giving you negative damage
I learned that the slinger ammo dropped by the monsters when attacking the indicates how low there health is i think the first one drops at 30% health the second is at 20% and the 3 is like 10% i find it easier to capture monsters when the second pod drops
A tip I just figured out after 650 hrs is that you don't have to find the monster on the map to pin it and track, but bottom left corner has their track progress etc... you can just click on their name there and track them. Much easier that trying to spot their icon on the map.
Crazy that I've played MH my whole life and loved World and I didnt know stuff like the elemental res being 20 and geologist adds an extra shiny pickup. Game is full of random hidden mechanics. +Sub
A tip I learned about today when watching someone do a Fatalis run (I haven’t even tried this out myself): I think in some circumstances when your character is lying on the ground, he can use his slinger
I believe even when you're pinned down, but not when stunned. Like when you get caught in that Nergi dive bomb he loves to spam. Slinger his stupid face, might just save you before he finishes you off. I think you can even switch to flash pods if it's not loaded yet.
Also after creating a item loadout, kick out and go to item pouch on in the start menu, click Triangle (on PS) and you can reorganize the item bar positions, once in the correct order, re-save the item loadout and everyting you pick it it'll save in that order. Great for getting your potions near your cloaks, or putting all your buff/non-combat items out of the way.
I feel like not many people know of what I call “runnable walls” where all Locales have certain walls that you can “run up”, and certain weapons have unique attacks off of it, like the spinning hammer bludgeon like what you do when sliding down slopes ❤
After 154 hours I knew 2/3 of your tips but the rest, like double pickups of the monster parts, or those two upgradeable charms in my inventory? Wow that was news for me! I once actually dodge monster roar, but I thought by some glitch. Thank you for this amazing video, I am sure, lots of us will find it very usefull.
The amount of times I hear rapid button clicking when gathering/carving in a group in voice chat is unreal lmao. I can't count how many people I've told that you can just hold the button and you'll keep gathering until you're finished.
For training area, asides from the Palico and your home, you can also access it through the map... A little bit faster, but probably useful if you need to go there many times...
GL tips, focus on leveling coral and volcano almost to lvl 7. Then level up wildspire and forest region to a zinogre and glavenus spawn level. For rarity 12 weapon augments
I'm an heretic, capture only, and am returning to the game after some time. I have left the game right after killing Fatalis and, now, I'll be looking to augment all weapons (high rank level); get the Platinum Trophy; and, later, will go on to continue the DLC. Thank u for the video. Loved the accent, slang and informations.
everyone knows that when you are mounting your tailraider they start to search for big monsters track and you can choose which monster you want to search even before riding them, what i didn't knew until recently is that you can also choose any element of the map like gathering spots, small monsters, other players, etc. and they will take you on that spot as well; the point is that, differently than big monsters, you can target something only AFTER you're mounting them and if you dismount and mount them again it resets, so you need to choose those elements again
Unlock all tailraiders on every map they are very useful during the hunt/gathering quest. During the Hunt: They'll automatically tracks the main large quest monster for you if they're not visible on the map. While still riding them near Large monsters you'll get a small chance of them detecting you hence buffing your self or sharpen your weapon during this time. During Gathering: Gathering speed time is much faster while mounted, this also applied to Mining/Bonepile making it just a quick reach and pick animation rather than the standard one. The best part of this one is you no longer have to press/tilt the forward button from going to each sectors the mounted monster will do it for you saving time for restocking/crafting items instead preparing you for the fight.
An interesting and very useful thing is that you can get off the mount with an aerial attack, with a glider mantle it is almost always right to start the fight with this movement will make you mount the monster.
You pointed out the heart rate. It also looks line the heart rate monitor speeds up when a monster is enraged. The music also changes when monsters enrage, but that's harder to notice.
amazing guide. just started playing recently and MHW is my first MH game, and its a little frustrating how the game doesnt tell you a lot of things and basically throw you in to learn by yourself (unless you watch guides or have friends to teach you). not saying the game is hard but there seems to be a bit of an entry requirement if you know what i mean
Welcome to MHW! I know exactly what you mean mate, it’s silly that guides like this are even needed, yet here we are! Hope it’s helped ease the start of your journey a little
2 questions that can hopefully be answered. 1) at 8:20 about elemental resistances, is it possible to have too much elemental resistance? ( how much would be too much?) 2) at 9:43 does the monster take less damage from the player when the monster is in rage mode?
The elem res number colour denotes what "tier" it's in, the higher it is the more red it gets. It caps at something like 50, I forget, but anything over 20 for the free blight resist is a waste anyhow. It can do, some monsters will become armored, like Nergigante's black spikes
Actually running element is useful in specific cases, alatreon for obvious reasons but also did you know fire damage(slinger ammo included) can untoughen lavasioth's hide and melt velkhana's blocks more easily.
early game i recommend everyone brings 3 levels of mushroom mancer allows you to bring 10 mandragoras that are max potions absolutely insane you can heal instantly max hp so you can get into the fight quicker and late game i say bring atleast 1 level of free meal or 3 levels if you have fatalis armor along with materials to craft max potions mushroomancer 3 early game free meal 3 late game being able to heal many times for full hp instantly is absolutely great obviously if you never get hit this isnt helpful for you but if you're like me and you get hit alot its very helpful so you arnt spending the whole game chugging mega potions just to get hit again
Late reply, but the reason it works is that the geologist skill checks the loot table for the required items (in the GL case bones, in KT ore or nuggets of gold). No bones/ore in the drop table, no worky. Bones/ore in the drop table, extra pick ups. Its specifically the shiny pick ups drop table, not the full monster drop table. Hence why it doesnt work outside GL normally.
I didnt know about the target lock on, for some reason the slinger option while weapon is drawn is the same as the lock on for ranged weapons, and it annoys me to no end everytime i accidentally lock on before aiming.
unfortunately no, focus monster and aim slinger is same option, if i could show you what it looks like on pc, i would. Well ive set it to "do not focus" as i have pretty quick reaction time
What the hell. I'm not gonna lie, I didn't even really know there were heart rate lines beneath the monster's icon, and paid even less attention to it over all, let alone noticing that it CHANGES. Or that there was an indicator for capturable state within it.
A tip that I don't see anyone mentioning: If u don't play with weapons that use ammunition, take the ammunition out of your loudout and always take the ammunition that is given for free in the supply box! The ammunition will stay with you after the mission and after a while you will have LOTS of ammunition to sell. EASY MONEY.
I've wondered with the armor loadouts, but do decorations save per loadout? Or do they remain separate? Like can I use the same armor set but only change decorations from say focus to evade extender? Or will the decorations stay how they were last set and I'd have 2 identical loadouts?
I actually had this question about a week ago and from the MHH discord the answer was that you can change your loadout with decorations, save it, swap them around, save the second one, and the decorations will follow.
Your decos are saved to the loadout slot. When ever you equip a different loadout your decos will change. No need to worry about switching decos everytime. Make your build with your prefered decos and save it.
Great question, as others have already answered, your decos are saved to the loadout, making them super convenient for different builds and styles even with the exact same weapons but a different set of decos!
There is a skill that gives you more sharpening meter, that little bag shows the sharpness that skill will give you, as there is a little bar with color at the bottom
ive seen the raw is king before, but every one also says i need to build elemental bow with critica element and whatnot. is it such a waste of effort? or do different weapons vary in effectiveness of elemental damage?
Raw vs Elemental comes down to motion values. General rule is Slow weapons are better with Raw and Fast weapons are better with Elemental but it also depends on the monster's weaknesses. Kinda tricky lol
@@abusivewafflegaming4450 ah. gotcha. well, thats true for all monster hunter. slow weapons (as in, all but bow, ig, sns and db), never had relevancy when it comes to elemental damage.
Elemental is a flat damage addition to each hit, hence why it’s more effective for fast/multi striking weapons like dual blades and bow. The damage calcs on the hit zones are really punishing, making it virtually pointless for the vast majority of fights. Viable, yeah, but raw nearly always wins by miles in nearly all circumstances. Alateon is near enough the only fight where it matters, and that’s because they’re making a point of it being an elemental fight lol
@ once I get higher up and better armor hope to get max ground tremors too if I can no idea what the ice born armor and decos are like yet. This is my second on pc now play through first one was right as the came came out on ps4 and stop right before iceborn got burnt out from deco farming looking for one deco shield jewel 2 I was a lance main. And 16 hours a day I just farmed decos and when I finally got I didn’t even play or need it anymore lol but I owned at least 3 of every deco and so many attack and artillery ones I moved to HBG.
I actually tried to capture a monster once, but it escaped, I killed it, and never tried again. First, and probably last attempt I'll ever make at capturing and not killing monster. I just don't understand the mechanics behind capturing well enough to know if I prefer to capture or to kill. And if their were quests clogging up my questlog that REQUIRE them to be captured, I probably wouldn't have tried to capture a monster even once.
The amount of time it took to write this comment is probably longer than a google search to figure out how it works. Capturing is great for dangerous monsters and gives increased odds of certain items per monster
"For whatever reason you want to capture a monster" Me: "uuuuuh capture quests? Plus you get to see them sleeping in Astera" Also already know most of them around 18/21. 50 hours in and just beginning High rank coz I spent a lot exploring and reading
Hi dude, o like your video, Just a thing, i'm Brazilian, without cc O cant understand so much, can u add subtitles tô next vídeos? Thank u Very much! And sucess 4u!
Everything's viable, but you really don't need to fuss yourself about making different sets, nah. A solid raw/blast weapon is gonna be dope, like Furious Rajang or Raging Brachy (and anything in between)

obviously if you never get hit this isnt helpful for you but if you're like me and you get hit alot its very helpful so you arnt spending the whole game chugging mega potions just to get hit again
GREAT way to get a huge amount of heals each hunt!
I wish Xeno’jiiva had better Armor it just looks so cool
could always use it as layered!
@@LightItUpDan say what now
@@Soygome layered armor, where it has the appearance of it but you're not actually using it as gear
@@LightItUpDan damn that’s fire thanks, this is why your one of the best mhw content creators
@@Soygome 🤝
For those that don't know, the 100% sure fired way to tell if a monster is enraged is if the heartbeat is switching between blue and yellow colors
as is the red pulse on the icon mini map
The Geologist guiding lands trick bizzarely works on kulve taroth as well.
You said in another comment that you heard this, have you confirmed it?
Late reply, but the reason it works is that the geologist skill checks the loot table for the required items (in the GL case bones, in KT ore or nuggets of gold). No bones/ore in the drop table, no worky. Bones/ore in the drop table, extra pick ups. Its specifically the shiny pick ups drop table, not the full monster drop table. Hence why it doesnt work outside GL normally.
@@SaberAvalon hence why it also works on radobaan
The only thing I didn't know out of the list was the last one, I'mma use it when hunting in the grinding lands
Doubles your farming efficiency!
YOU CAN MINE OFF THE URAGAAN?? Thats fucking amazing 😂 things like this are why i love mh
pretty neat, huh? haha
I didnt know about the target lock on, for some reason the slinger option while weapon is drawn is the same as the lock on for ranged weapons, and it annoys me to no end everytime i accidentally lock on before aiming.
Oh god that sounds so frustrating lol can you change the inputs?
unfortunately no, focus monster and aim slinger is same option, if i could show you what it looks like on pc, i would.
Haha now you know!
A tip that I don't see anyone mentioning:
If u don't play with weapons that use ammunition, take the ammunition out of your loudout and always take the ammunition that is given for free in the supply box! The ammunition will stay with you after the mission and after a while you will have LOTS of ammunition to sell. EASY MONEY.
possibly useful at the very start of the game!
Another fantastic tip:
Game has 14 different weapons.
So many players pick one and stick to it the whole game, which is such a disservice to themselves haha
@@LightItUpDan mhm
It's even sadder because how each weapon almost completely change how the game feels in combat.
@@Evrimomono YES!
Interesting fact holding down the button to gather was put in the games since monster hunter generations.
very cool!
I've wondered with the armor loadouts, but do decorations save per loadout? Or do they remain separate? Like can I use the same armor set but only change decorations from say focus to evade extender? Or will the decorations stay how they were last set and I'd have 2 identical loadouts?
I actually had this question about a week ago and from the MHH discord the answer was that you can change your loadout with decorations, save it, swap them around, save the second one, and the decorations will follow.
sorry, by "follow" i mean yes, they save with your loadouts. I don't know why I worded it so stupid lol
I want to know, for the sharpness what is that tiny bag after the full bar?
There is a skill that gives you more sharpening meter, that little bag shows the sharpness that skill will give you, as there is a little bar with color at the bottom
Think of it as weapon's "potential" sharpness. The Handicraft skill unlocks this potential
As others already said, it’s the potential sharpness you can unlock with “handicraft” skill
@@gerardfarresfranch7242 thanks
@@Serai-l7z thanks
Regarding enraged status, do you mean flashing is enraged? Because your minimap will be red in combat regardless
The monster icon itself flashes red
ive seen the raw is king before, but every one also says i need to build elemental bow with critica element and whatnot. is it such a waste of effort? or do different weapons vary in effectiveness of elemental damage?
Bow (and Dual Blades to a slightly lesser extent) is the only weapon where elemental is better than raw for most matchups
Raw vs Elemental comes down to motion values. General rule is Slow weapons are better with Raw and Fast weapons are better with Elemental but it also depends on the monster's weaknesses. Kinda tricky lol
You only need an elemental for fighting alatreon, 🎉
@@abusivewafflegaming4450 ah. gotcha. well, thats true for all monster hunter. slow weapons (as in, all but bow, ig, sns and db), never had relevancy when it comes to elemental damage.
Elemental is a flat damage addition to each hit, hence why it’s more effective for fast/multi striking weapons like dual blades and bow. The damage calcs on the hit zones are really punishing, making it virtually pointless for the vast majority of fights. Viable, yeah, but raw nearly always wins by miles in nearly all circumstances. Alateon is near enough the only fight where it matters, and that’s because they’re making a point of it being an elemental fight lol
does the geologist tip still work?
Yep, try it!
I hate roars haha all my gear is earplugs x5 if I can get away with it lol. My spreed HBG build really benefits from it.
I don't blame you, never getting staggered by roars is a **huge** dps increase!
5:55 WTF why no one ever told me this?
Haha, now you know!
Trap + two tranqs when on critical hp
The amount of time it took to write this comment is probably longer than a google search to figure out how it works. Capturing is great for dangerous monsters and gives increased odds of certain items per monster
you used to make neverwinter content right? It's cool seeing you still making videos :D
A long time ago, yeah
"For whatever reason you want to capture a monster"
Me: "uuuuuh capture quests? Plus you get to see them sleeping in Astera"
Also already know most of them around 18/21. 50 hours in and just beginning High rank coz I spent a lot exploring and reading
👍
Hey Dan!
Wait do people not hold the gathering input? I thought it was common knowledge that you hold it?
If only! The game never explicitly tells you as far as I recall haha
Hi dude, o like your video, Just a thing, i'm Brazilian, without cc O cant understand so much, can u add subtitles tô next vídeos? Thank u Very much! And sucess 4u!

@@LightItUpDan thanks g just returned to the game from taking a 2yr break , never beat em before but ig it’s time to learn the fight/ mechanics
so i dont have to use Defender series to get big numbers?🤔 im so bored of using defender weaponsssss
They’re the best base game weapons by far, but you don’t have to use them, they’re catch up gear
Then if raw is king, I dont need to care about which element my dual blades are and always use a nitro one?
Everything's viable, but you really don't need to fuss yourself about making different sets, nah. A solid raw/blast weapon is gonna be dope, like Furious Rajang or Raging Brachy (and anything in between)
@@LightItUpDan let me beat the first brachydios from story mode first 🤣
I bought the game in 2018 but I started playing not long ago, i dont even have rarity 11
@@roplay3872 you got this!
You keep saying you can't clutch enraged monsters, but that's certainly false. It's just harder. Or if you use certain mantles it's np.
no, I say you can’t wall bang them, the flinch shot only works when not enraged. this is very clearly vocalised in my videos and the issue with understanding is on your side
Wait wtf you can mine off monster's back?? IM TRYING THAT RIGHT NOW
Haha yeah for Uragaan and Radobaan! Capture net on Zinogre too
I didnt know elements dont matter as much, all this time ive been prioritizing elemental skills and only been using 3 star weaknesses. My whole life is a lie
I'm so sorry
To be honest i hate subscribing to channels i like. TH-cam seems to stop showing me videos of the channels i sub.
If you turn the bell notifications on you can’t miss them

3:46 Min.: If i remeber right this got addet in World and was 1 of good features that dont makes the game more easy and just remove somthing anyoning form the game.
Still nothing i not know allready.
I hope the later things teach me somthing new ^^

But i dont will use it because im far to lazy to farm me those stuff i need for the build.
I would requier gems because i dont want to rip my equip apeart. So its sounds paradox but i perfer to hunt more instat of just change my equip ^^
