Lance is a really interesting weapon. Raw, Ele, and Status are all strong AND it has unique transitional and Pre MR 100 requirements for its builds. Let us know what you think of Lance in the comments below!
I seen a post on Reddit that says kulu Lance is the most powerful. He list a bunch of calculations but I don’t understand that stuff lol. www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunterWorld/comments/dhtxxx/elementless_kulu_lance_634_efr348_tr/?
@@TheStudio_70 I looked over there numbers and I frankly have no idea where they are getting their EFR numbers in the chart they listed from. Their Kulu Lance build is less optimized than the one in the video AND somehow has more EFR than the ruiner lance. I honestly don't know how they got those numbers, but they are either looking at weapons in a vacuum without considering builds which is a mistake because that's not how damage comparisons work or they are using very unoptimized sets for their comparisons. Edit: Upon further examining the numbers its clear they are using only base weapon stats and not accounting for builds or deco slots in that comparison. Which is a very poor way of approaching weapon comparisons due to not taking into consideration build trade offs. For example the Kulu weapon has no slots, this limits its flexibility build wise compared to other weapons and has to be accounted for if you are comparing base stats. Also builds have to change to account for having too much natural affinity on a weapon, you lose efficiency running rajang helm MT sets but if you don't want to massively Overcap Affinity with Crit Eye its a thing you have to do.
JinJinx and Tuna [Monster Hunter Math] awesome thanks for the reply. I don’t understand how to calculate any of this stuff so I usually rely on other peoples builds and throw in my QOL stuff lol. Love your vids, keep up the good work!
I really like this idea, especially at this point in the lifecycle, I can get a hunt or three in a day and like to,try different weapons so poverty builds are a big help.
I'm new to the whole mh genre and have only been playing for like a month and a half. Got thru mhw story and rushed to iceborne without any prior knowledge. Really appreciate these budget builds for a newcomer like myself. I haven't explored your guy's channel too much but would love to see more newb friendly budget or comfy playstyle builds as well. THANKS!
I literally didn't give lance much thought until Jinx explained it casually on one of the streams leading up to iceborne and I absolutely fell in love with it. I ended up playing through half of Iceborne with lance.
I like poverty build sets. seeing them is great insight into the build workarounds. sometimes the only thing missing is a single deco. so these are good for the creative process.
Just recently got into watching your vids, and I have to say I like this vid because I'm a fairly casual player, and while I'll probably get to the more objectively "best" sets it is nice to have something easier to aim towards, especially with the lack of perfect decos at my disposal.
I enjoy the transitional set videos because I frequently struggle with building sets before I reach max level/unlocked the appropriate hunts. Thanks for all your help!
Thank you for covering the Kulu Lance. I didn't know how it compared to the optimal options, but I am pleased to hear that it is only within a few percent of a difference. I can spare the few extra seconds in a run so that I don't need to farm for ruiner lance parts, and augments. I imagine that this will get slightly more competitive with ruiner when ice biome in the guiding lands gets added... but we won't really know until we see. Awesome video, keep up the good work!
I really liked the idea of the transitional set video idea. This helped me understand what to shot for while gearing up. I saw the other video for the general video but seeing this video being specific flushes out the ideas better for me. But that is just me
As someone who switched over to PC and left 450 hours worth of stuff on PS4, these are much appreciated. Still missing all my decos, but I'll get em back eventually ;-;
I certainly enjoy the poverty builds and would like to see more of them. I really appreciated the build for those of us without crit boost jewels. At almost 300 hours in the game I still don't have any.
A somewhat easy way to get them (pre tempered MR elders) is just tempered high rank t2 monsters. With bad mr armor the hunts are pretty much all easily sub 5 for even a casual (me) so you can just rip through them. If you burnout just go back to MR progression. Got me 2 crit decos within 2 days
Wow, i built the kulu lance right after starting mr just because it was best mr lance i could see at the time. Watching this video after beating velkhana and wanted to see what i should be aiming for to build next. Glad to see i already have one of the best
I have picked up lance for Iceborne, so I really appreciate this. Currently rocking the Seething Bazel lance to grind up to MR100, but might give Kulu a try for the easy augments. Thanks!
Jinx and tuna I really enjoyed this video it helped me a lot and it would be very helpful if when your reviewing the meta sets for weapons at the end of the video you could put a cheap/poverty set at the end of the video
I was trying to get by with recovery speed 2 and immunizer on acid lance, before I found this vid. Now I can healthily poke my way to spiky boi. Thank you!
If you use the cookie cutter MT set with guard charm you can have a comfy kulu set that doesn't require latent power or agitator to reach 100% affinity.
I think it is worth mentioning that tempered Garon can also spawn in the Coral Highlands, although rare (at least for me). I didnt even touch the sewers yet and i can health-augment all the things :D
I really like this idea and appreciate this examination of sets that are also plausible for people who can't play as much. Though i acknowledge it would be a fairly monumental amount of work, I'd love to see more sets that cover more phases of the game for other weapons. I know a lot of people who progress slower and it seems fairly common. That said, I think it would be even more helpful if you'd pay more mind to alternates for people who don't have certain rare decorations. I only finally got my first Challenger gem yesterday (from the login bonus) and I still don't have a Shield gem for Guard Up. You seem to suggest Critical and Tenderizer combo decos are common but that has not even remotely been my experience. Also, I'd be interested to see your perspective on builds that optimise for things other than just damage output. Like what's an optimal set look like that has wide-range 5, free meal, and mushroomancer 3 or speed eating 3 while still putting out good damage?
Huh, surprised I didn't see something I consider pretty important for poverty lance sets. Shield jewels are incredibly rare, so what's the optimal way to include Guard Up without one?
Guard Up? They said in the other video that Lance have an natural Guard Up if you stay in Power Guard long enough. But since I'm a PC player I can't confirm this.
Instead of health augments, perhaps you could use Nergi-chans 'Hasten Recovery' or Vaal's 'Super Recovery'. Health that you gain by attacking ~5 times or that just passively regens on its own. They're not as good as augments but decent alternatives, and can be quite good when combined. 'Recovery Up' can also give an extra 10-30% but that's less slots for others skills. My current Behemoth build (PC) uses all 3.
You can upgrade the charm to level 4 the moment you have access to Uragaan. It only saves you a single level 1 deco slot, but a free slot is a free slot. Good luck on getting the Uragaan Mantle though...
WAIT A GOSH DANG STINKING MINUTE. Are you guys telling me that I unknowingly made the best poverty/transitional lance in the game?????? What the heck... Is this the power of math coursing through my MHW veins?

I would love to see you guys tackling how-to and best weapon to use for each elder dragons in Iceborne.
It seems like this series on lance is undervaluing the high affinity lances in favor of low affinity lances that require agitator to be active and hitting softened weakspots. This seems unrealistic for the fast paced nature of lance in a hectic group hunt. Silver Prominence/Minqar can crit much more consistently and imo, may have a higher average efr over most hunts for most players. That’s one of the main reasons the taroth claw was so good. Great vid btw!

When it’s said these weapons will never beat the low affinity weapons, I don’t think all the viewers understand the scenarios required for that ‘never’ to actually occur.
