Have American SUVs like this (and its GM and Lincoln counterparts) finally outclassed foreign luxury SUVs from Lexus, Mercedes Benz, BMW, and Range Rover? Looks that way!
Big Truck Big RV absolutely not. You cannot beat a Mercedes over a ford even GM. I rather get a used Benz SUV then a new USA model. But again just my opinion
it depends on what you need, for towing yes. I own a 2016 platinum f150 and a Mercedes, the service experience at the Mercedes dealership is significantly better than the experience at the Ford dealership. Funny part is my Ford is a more expensive than my e class. My wife and I really enjoy the pickup, but the awful service experience and the ridiculous number of recalls may keep us from buying another Ford. We are trying a different dealer in January maybe they will be better.
Great review. I still have my 1998 Ford expedition with 230000 miles on it. It still runs like a champ and I have never changed the engine or transmission out. It's been a great truck to my family. Hope they still build them to last.
This has made me look at the Ford Expedition for our new suv thank you for this video it was very interesting thanks for all of the hard work you making These videos
My wife was looking at an F150 again and we saw these on fords site...as so on as one came to kansas city we went and test drove one then waited to find one with second row buckets. Have had it a few weeks now and absolutely love it! Great vehicle and love the fact they borrowed all the tech from the f150.
Really good makeover of the Expedition. Look at those tight panel gaps! Liftgates and rear hatches that are power and programmable are also that way to avoid collision with a garage ceiling and/or the door casing of the garage door when the vehicle is in the garage and you need to open it up to get something out of the back of it. Anxious to see Part 2!
All Of Your Videos Are Very Helpful And Fun To Watch. I Really Love The RAM 3500 Dually And The F350 / F450 Duallys. Merry Christmas, Big Truck Big RV And Keep Up The Great Work Making Awesome Truck Reviews.
I am not a general ford fan but this is rig is fantastic. I am very pleased to see the transformation. Well done ford!!! Thanks for this review hoss. Great stuff First comment btw lol
I own this vehicle. Took delivery of it on Dec 4. In addition to your points, independent rear suspension was key for me. Ford F series eco-system is a great place for long-term vehicle ownership.
Wow - I'm glad they did a refresh. I'm going to be replacing my 6.0 Excursion with a 6.7 F250 next year but I've got a sneaking suspicion the wife will want to eventually get into one of these as well.
Ford hit it out of the park with this one. It's sister vehicle, the new Lincoln Navigator is the nicest vehicle I have ever had the pleasure of driving. The sound deadening they used is out of this world. Probably the best fit vehicle for our family. However, one big problem, Resale Value. A similar equipped msrp F-150 is worth as much as $10-15k more at the 4-7 year mark. So as much as i like these large SUV's, half tons are just a much better value at the back end.
You are correct, the tech “somewhat” justifies the price. The problem is, the dealerships don’t stock many (if any) plain Jane models. If they do, they sell out quickly. The dealers make more profit on the higher end vehicles.
I upgraded from a 2009 5.0 F-150 Platinum Crew Cab to basically an identical 2012 but with the Ecoboost, mainly for the advertised 20+ mpg fuel economy. Performance wise I can't complain but mileage wise, WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! I don't get any better gas mileage and in fact in some cases even worse. I average 14.5 to 16 mpg 'around town stop & go traffic (everything is flat and wide open here in central Fla.). If I just attach my EMPTY 6x12 open utility trailer to it the mileage will drop approx 2 mpg. On one trip hauling just my Polaris Ranger side by side up to Alabama it dropped all the way down to 9mpg! That was a real shocker. With that said, if I fill up and jump right on the interstate (I-95 here in Fla) and not towing anything I have coaxed 20 mpg out of it. with 86,000 miles on my 2012 now I'm considering a 2018 but I think I'll go back to a V8.
BTW; being a retired aerospace engineer I tend to be way to anal about collecting and saving data on my vehicles. I found great android app for recording and saving fuel data called FillUP - Gas Mileage Log by William Kramer and use it religiously now. :-)
MrGrunthunter's Adventures With a Truck that big a smaller engine will be to strained to actually provide better MPG. Vs a bigger engine which will rev lower
My thoughts exactly. With an empty vehicle it's not to bad but once it gets a load on it the mileage does down the drain. I have to say though, that V6 Ecoboost has a ton more torque out of than my old 5.0 V8.
Marcus Young Ha ha ... the tallest hills we have around here are the bridges over the inner coastal rivers and that ole ecoboost has to downshift to make it over them. 😉
It's definitely worth the price. It's very high tech. It's body is all aluminum just like a Range Rover or Audi. The Platinum has full leather interior..dash and doors incl. The wood and metal inside is Real. It has all the new Driver Aids; self parking etc. It's an expensive vehicle to build so how could anyone dare say it's overpriced?
The grill on the Platinum is what makes this SUV. It looks like a Range Rover. I also like the slightly rounder lines. Finally! I have been saying Ford needed to copy the Explorer in the Expedition. The Explorer ride is too bumpy. I owned the 2003 Expedition for 8 years and have since owned Mercedes GL and BMW X5 and no one's ride compares to the "smoothness" of the Expedition. I think the design is understated elegance vs the Lincoln and Cadillac's bourgeios look. I hope Ford succeeds with this one. $77K is hefty, I will consider it but it better blow me away for that price.
Great video and excellent review. Loved the side-by-side comparison with the previous model (although maybe went into too much detail on some features of the older model; who cares!!!) You mentioned that you were going to also review the interior features and technology with comparison, I did not find that. Please send a link. Happy New Year.
I was all about my wife trading up her Mercedes for these when the concept came out that they were gonna look like the f150. Not as crazy about these as that concept but I still like them.
The prices of these SUV's are just crazy and ridiculous. All the upgrades in technology already existed and should be standard equipment at this point. As far as the increase in HP all they did was increase the boost of the turbo by just changing the settings in the ecm. What truly new technology is in this vehicle to justify the extremely high price of it?
I know a lot of people wonder why ford has 5 buttons and 10 numbers, it’s a great ider cause people may want to remember 8274, which they use as a pin also.
What an upgrade! Looks really good, comparable to the new GMC Yukon. But is it as big as the Yukon XL, storage-wise? And the aluminum body, not sure. In the northwest we love the sunroof and won't be without one, not sure if in a hot sunny climate. Beautiful new styling though!
Stumbled on your page looking at upgrades for my new F350. We just got my wife the new Armada… but this will probably be next in our fleet. Anyone ever tell you they you sound like Mark Worman from Graveyard Carz?
They got rid of the king ranch trim in the expedition for 2018. The reason i was told they weren't selling them and got tired of having to pay the royalty fees to king ranch. I sell them had a training class from ford before the release of them.
brent vance don't know about the Ford but the Lincoln twin is using the high output eco-boost rated at 450hp. Ford wanted to make sure horsepower and torque numbers were ahead of the GM product.
Ford did a great job on design. But there customer service in the service department is a joke. When you buy a 80k suv you don’t want to be treated like a customer who bought a focus. I’ll never buy another Ford.
The worst part is that if you want a cheap fx4 version they force you to buy the highest package level in the XLT. Witch is beyond stupid... Also the distinctly not F150 styling is odd. It's like a flex and an explorer had a baby but on steroids. I'll try to convince my father to not get rid of his 04 expedition. 200k and still strong.
Zecrid We also have an 04 Expedition with over 200k miles. It’s been a great vehicle and runs great but it is starting to show it’s age, especially the interior. I really do like the interior of this new expedition. The outside is starting to grow on me.
Wow my dad has a 04 as well ironically just about at 154K though. Our Eddie Bauer edition definitely shows its age in comparison and considering it was 50K when it was brand new you can get far more for your money today especially if you consider that adjusted for inflation its 65K in todays money. He's keeping it for another year then he's upgrading to a CPO F-250 to tow his boat.
I wish the doors could be programmed to self lock as you walk away from the car with the key in the pocket, especially for the people who don't have small children
Just rented one these a white one from Sixth car rentals absolutely loved it but refuse to pay that much, car makers gonna learn they are gonna be stuck with a lot of these over priced cars and SUV’s we the consumers need to hold out as long as we could till they drop the prices.
For 12 grand over the pickup it's based on that massaging seat better suck me off. Navigator with toys is 80. Escalade platinum for 60 with low mileage.
Denali is a trim level with GMC much like King Ranch is a trim level with Ford. The GMC Yukon is the equivalent vehicle of the Tahoe and the competitor to the Expedition.
Yeah, people fail to understand that Ford's "Platinum" trims are basically their Denali trims of Chevy's GMC. They started with the Platinum when they knew they were going to shut down the Mercury brand.
I would like to point out that the 2018 Platinum models actually use the same 3.5 V6 EcoBoost but have 400 hp and 480 lb. ft of torque. And there is no King Ranch package for the 2018 model.
Steven Pachay: we had a 2015 Infiniti QX80 before our Navigator. The current Armada is the same as the QX for the most part. We had all sorts of technology related issues as well as weird quirks with stupid things like the power windows stopping half way up. Also, we didn't care for how hollow it sounded as well as the flimsy door panels.
Big Truck Big RV thanks for the input! I like my 17’ Armada Platinum especially at the price i got it for .. to each his own I guess, but I got a 3 row full size SUV with a little touch of luxury for a bargain! Love the all new Expedition but there’s a $10-$15 k price difference (msrp) .. I wish someone would do a comparison like motor trend did back in 2004/2008 .. Full size SUVs are selling again
Bring back the Excursion! Was that the max model or what use to be the EL when they got rid of the excursion? Those have a lot more room in the back behind the seats I thought
The LED headlights are really nice if you're driving the vehicle but when you're the vehicle coming towards the vehicle with the LED headlights they suck
I bought a KIA sorento back in 2014 that had all the features of this new expedition. I bought a 2017 suburban that still makes this new expedition seem like its playing catch up.
The fuller look makes it look fat and too low to the ground. That or it's cause the color white makes it look that way. White is not a good color for the Expedition... or any vehicle in my opinion. Looking forward to seeing a refresh.
Awesome SUV if they made a 5 passenger version I would probably get it for my wife! The panoramic sunroof is not your enemy! If you’re buying a vehicle in this price range I would use the best tint you can buy. So limo tint the sunroof and leave the shade open, it won’t hurt the interior. In Florida we can tint the windshield so this way you are totally protected. Please Thank the sales rep and have a Merry Christmas 🎄🎁!!!
We have a 2015 ford expedition limited black on black we love it the ecoboost is amazing I rather have the ecoboost then the old 5.4 in the expedition Ford has really been on top of there game and that's why gm and dodge follow Ford is always ahead of them and the fact we can tow 9300lbs with our is amazing I'm not trading in our 2015 for a 2018 we only have 37000 miles on ours and has warranty till 120000
I have a question for you last week you did a video and you were using a magnetic led light bar could you do a short video with a link on where to get one
Here in Seattle we have people pushing shopping carts , people riding bicycles towing baby strollers loaded down with belongings , homeless af . Historically the rich live in a bubble and drive fancy cars. (and change trucks like it's underwear)
Have American SUVs like this (and its GM and Lincoln counterparts) finally outclassed foreign luxury SUVs from Lexus, Mercedes Benz, BMW, and Range Rover? Looks that way!
Big Truck Big RV absolutley. I’d much rather get a Denali or Navigator over a Mercedes or BMW

We are trying a different dealer in January maybe they will be better.
I'd much rather have Jaguar F pace. I just configured a fully loaded Super Charged F pace for $2K less than that Ford.
Big Truck Big RV it looks nice but at this price point I would pick the Audi over the ford. But so much better looking than the 17 model.
i think the 2018 Expedition is a good looking SUV. Ford is doing a great job these days.
Great review. I still have my 1998 Ford expedition with 230000 miles on it. It still runs like a champ and I have never changed the engine or transmission out. It's been a great truck to my family. Hope they still build them to last.
Wow, this 18 makes last years model look like it came out in 03. Why have I never noticed that.
Daniel Perry Motorsports You're about right. The last gen was released in 03 or 04. Haha
All the body panels are the same from 03-17
that 17 did come out in 03, lol
i know right
Finally!!!! Great job Ford. All makes are becoming “Luxury cars” now 👏
This has made me look at the Ford Expedition for our new suv thank you for this video it was very interesting thanks for all of the hard work you making These videos
this Expedition is GORGEOUS!!! WOW! GREAT JOB Ford!!!!
It would be nice if they put a diesel in the Expedition well at least Expedition Max since Ford doesn't have the Excursion in their lineup
No lie this makes the current Tahoe and suburban look basic.
But the body design pretty much copies that same look.
LarryTheRcBoat Eh they’ve always looked pretty similar on the outside since the 90’s.
What are you talking about lol theyre the same except ford still has a garbage interior that looks like the back of a police car
Noa Gomez Nah Ford upgraded the interior to luxury
You realize Ford designed the Range Roger because they owned the brand for quite some time.
My wife was looking at an F150 again and we saw these on fords site...as so on as one came to kansas city we went and test drove one then waited to find one with second row buckets. Have had it a few weeks now and absolutely love it! Great vehicle and love the fact they borrowed all the tech from the f150.
yeah that 2017 looks 10 years older than the 2018.
Newton Washinton
No joke...that 17 looks like a 2005...
Ford basically gave GM the Fullsize SUV market. They never updated the trucks like they needed to.
Still think the 2017 looks better, it looks more like a ford truck to me. Ford is obviously going for the range rover/escelade look now.
You got Zero taste. lmao
edm Ford use to own range rover
Great looking suv they are just so expensive I often wonder who can afford to make a payment on something that will decrease in value dramatically
The 2018 expedition SUV it's absolutely amazing.
Ford really outdone themselves on this. They really coming at the competition neck.
Great video. I really like the look of the newer Expedition! Love the grille.
If you have a low garage, setting the door hight is important.

Да! Именно от вас я и ждал обзор этого автомобиля! Огромное вам спасибо!
Great video and appreciate the comparisons of the two models. Spot on.

If Honda made an offering like this I’d buy it. But this is the next best thing.
Seen two of them driving around town already. Beautiful SUV’s
You can have eco, you can have boost. But you can’t have both at the same time. Once the turbos spool up your not getting good mileage
thats why the ecoboost rocks..
Yes. My Ecoboost F150 averages 14.3 to 14.5 MPG.
I upgraded from a 2009 5.0 F-150 Platinum Crew Cab to basically an identical 2012 but with the Ecoboost, mainly for the advertised 20+ mpg fuel economy. Nice!! Amazing redesign!! I think it's based on the truck chassis so it will keep up with the truck updates in the future.
Great video man! Keep it up:)
I like the suv review for a change
chevy and ford makes the best suv hands down.... i still see ford suv and chevvy from 1999 on the streets
Great video and excellent review. Loved the side-by-side comparison with the previous model (although maybe went into too much detail on some features of the older model; who cares!!!) You mentioned that you were going to also review the interior features and technology with comparison, I did not find that. Please send a link. Happy New Year.
Great Review. Was considering a new Explorer, but now you got me wanting to test drive the Expedition. Gas mileage is there, so why not.
I think it looks more of a Chevy Tahoe or GMC Denali than a Range Rover
Power step rails have been on vehicles before 2013. My 2008 Limited has power step rails.
The company 2008 Expedition Limited had the Power deploying running boards.
Great video! Pretty informative. I just picked up a 18' limited expedition!
I was all about my wife trading up her Mercedes for these when the concept came out that they were gonna look like the f150. Not as crazy about these as that concept but I still like them.
Is this an off road capable vehicle? It's big and bulky like a LC200 and that one is great for any terrain
This is not a Range Rover, BMW, or Mercedes..Ford has lost its mind asking these prices!
Jonathan agreed
and yet look out your window next time you're driving, look how many people are wasting their money driving big old boxes around
There’s no ROI on these bad boys, but ...
I agree 100%! It’s beyond non-sense! Warren buffet drives. Cadillac CTS. He’s multi-billionaires
In the northwest we love the sunroof and won't be without one, not sure if in
a hot sunny climate. Beautiful new styling though!
Looks like Ford came out with a new full-size WindStar !
Currently on the market to buy Ford Expedition. Family of 5 coming soon!
Asking 60k -70k for that 2017 expedition is disrespectful
All good ,agree Ford has nailed it but this is the first model year so what is to follow>>>> Reliability .
Stumbled on your page looking at upgrades for my new F350. We just got my wife the new Armada… but this will probably be next in our fleet.
Anyone ever tell you they you sound like Mark Worman from Graveyard Carz?
I enjoy your videos. Please consider using a less-wide angle lens. The vehicles are so distorted.
They got rid of the king ranch trim in the expedition for 2018. The reason i was told they weren't selling them and got tired of having to pay the royalty fees to king ranch. I sell them had a training class from ford before the release of them.
😎🇺🇸👍 Hey Buddy! Great review thanks 🙏🏽 Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🏻
Love the new redesign!
That grill is the nail in the coffin. I'm not going to look at the 2018, no longer looks like a truck. Now it's a look-a-like suv
You are wrong on the hp. I believe the top of the line one has 400hp 480tq
brent vance: I believe you're correct.insane
brent vance don't know about the Ford but the Lincoln twin is using the high output eco-boost rated at 450hp. Ford wanted to make sure horsepower and torque numbers were ahead of the GM product.
Yes The numbers mentioned in the video are for XLT and Limited. Platinum has a higher rated tune of 400hp and 480 lb-ft.
Ford did a great job on design. But there customer service in the service department is a joke. When you buy a 80k suv you don’t want to be treated like a customer who bought a focus. I’ll never buy another Ford.
I’m not a Ford fan but that’s a nice looking rig.
Humberto Gonzalez my dad's 2013 is reaching 200k now
Wow my dad has a 04 as well ironically just about at 154K though.
Agreed. I don’t like how the XLT options are packaged. You can’t get SYNC3 and cloth seats on this one.
Great video, and again Ford is getting insane on the price of a new vehicle. I'd never buy one, can't put my 5th wheel hitch in it.
you mean everyone is jacking there prices up.
Dolly it.🇺🇸
For 12 grand over the pickup it's based on that massaging seat better suck me off.
I love this Expedition. Wondering how do you feel about the current Nissan Armada?
Steven Pachay: we had a 2015 Infiniti QX80 before our Navigator. The current Armada is the same as the QX for the most part. We had all sorts of technology related issues as well as weird quirks with stupid things like the power windows stopping half way up. Love the all new Expedition but there’s a $10-$15 k price difference (msrp) .. I wish someone would do a comparison like motor trend did back in 2004/2008 .. Full size SUVs are selling again
Love it. Can't wait till you do the Navigator Blackwood Edition.
The Platinum Expedition actually is tuned to have 400hp🙂👍🏻
You really need a Forscan session with your truck.
Luxury you gota be kidding
I think the 09 or so and later didn’t have much exterior change. The 03 era I think was differentiated enough in the 09 or so refresh.
I hope the bronco isn't priced this high
merry christmas and a happy new years
The fuller look makes it look fat and too low to the ground. That or it's cause the color white makes it look that way. White is not a good color for the Expedition... or any vehicle in my opinion. Looking forward to seeing a refresh.

My 2010 expedition limited has the power running boards. not sure if they came as an option or got added on later
Thanks for the video. BTW why www.ranchhand.com is not clickable in the description?
Somehow they don't make any products for Ford expedition 2018...
I have a question for you last week you did a video and you were using a magnetic led light bar could you do a short video with a link on where to get one
I'd rather have a Durango SRT for the price. More fun and although it is a bit smaller it has bigger more comfortable seats.
they have been putting power running loads since 2007
The expedition is more so built to counter the suburbans while the explorers have always been the counter to tahoes.
Big great!!! Ford Explorer
Just saw this at the auto show I want it
How did you make an almost 20 minute video on this vehicle and not show the interior of the passenger compartment?
lol I ton of things were no shown
Why are ther sp few striped basic veciels with mayne leather or vinal seat and not fancy readio?
Yea put it said by side with a Denali they look a lot alike these days too
Hate the Ecoboost and its artificial sound to fool the driver. 5.0L V8 or the coming 7.0L (replacing the 6.2L) would be much preferred IMHO.
Well done.
Price out of my price range. Crazy.
James Chapman just wait a little while. The incentives will come (or a chance to get an excellent used model).
What good is a state-of-the-art vehicle if it is priced out of the reach for most people?
Here in Seattle we have people pushing shopping carts , people riding bicycles
towing baby strollers loaded down with belongings , homeless af .
Historically the rich live in a bubble and drive fancy cars.
(and change trucks like it's underwear)
I like. But I don’t wanna pay that much for a Ford
Tune in next week when I take a Ford blue oval, finely mince it, and snort it for my most ultimate high ever! Lol
¡Merry Christmas, btw.
front end looks better than the navigator
I'm just waiting for the "so this is why I bought this SUV for my wife"
Great video but I believe they got rid of the King Ranch trim for 18' Expeditions
Ben Wendle: I believe you're correct
