2018 Ford Expedition Review / Comparison - In 4K

  • If you're shopping for a full-sized SUV, Ford's all-new Expedition simply has to be on your shopping list. It's more modern and more fuel efficient than the competition with good handling dynamics, a powerful twin-turbo V6 engine and a new 10-speed automatic transmission. Tow ratings are at the top of the pack and it quite simply feels newer than the Chevy, Nissan, Toyota or GMC competition.

    Just bought one and it's dreamy. Room room everywhere. This review is spot on. Interior is ruggedly refined. What's not to love with an extended warranty and gap insurance. So we'll tow small stuff. If we wanted tow capacity we'd have bought a truck.

    I'm on my 5th Expedition right now, which is a 2020 Limited. I just can't see myself driving any other SUV.
    I have owned a 1998 Eddie Bauer, 2004 XLT, 2010 Eddie Bauer, 2016 XLT, and now of course the 2020 Limited. They just keep getting better and better, and I can't wait to see what they do next.

      @justabrokeredneck I haven't driven any of those 3. I have always liked the Expeditions enough to never think about any other, except a Cadillac Escalade but haven't checked them out yet.
      I'm sure whatever makes you comfortable and happy will be the right choice.

    Hey Alex, i just wanted to tell you that on the cargo area, the hooks that are said to be for groceries are in fact for the double hinge cover that you found a little confusing. In this way you can put the cover over the hooks horizontally like some kind of shelf to put stuff on it and be able to reach it from the back window opening so you don't have to open the whole thing and mess around with your luggage, you can also extend a small lip on one side of the cover to prevent your stuff from falling from the shelf every time the vehicle brakes. The second position of this cover is to put it over the hooks on a vertical way so it forms like a little wall to prevent your excess baggage from falling or if you have something that could roll out from the cargo area when you open it.
    You are on of the best reviewers that i have encounter globally with the plus that you actually quantify and ranked every measurement, keep up the excellent work. Saludos desde México amigo.

    We rented a 2018 Expedition Max on a recent trip to Yellowstone. We actually had reserved a Transit, but upon arrival the Transit was in sorry shape, and the rental rep was so embarrassed as to the condition, they upgraded us to the Expedition. 5 adults and 3 kids ranging from 2nd grade to 7th grade.
    I'm not normally a fan of large vehicles like this, but I will say the Expedition performed like a champ for the week we had it. Yellowstone is around 8,000 feet of elevation, which doesn't help engine performance on any car. There was a bunch of construction on park roads, so quite a bit of rough "road" we traversed on a daily basis. Nary a squeak or rattle out of the Ford no matter the road surface. Plenty of power, even loaded with 8 of us, and on mountain roads at high elevation.
    Color me impressed. I couldn't justify 15 mpg give or take on a daily basis, and if I had to routinely haul 7 or 8 people, I'd probably choose a minivan, as ingress/egress is far superior. But if you need to tow more than a minivan can handle, AND haul more than 6 people on a regular basis, I can see owning one of these. It was great. Quiet, solid, etc. Of course, it had better be, considering what a well equipped Expedition sells for these days.
    Anecdote: GM must absolutely give away their equivalent to rental agencies. We saw a dozen full size Chevy SUVs in rental service in the park for every Ford. I was surprised the imbalance was so large.

    Great review, Alex. We bought a 2018 Ford Expedition Limited 4WD two weeks ago to replace my 2008 GMC Envoy Denali 4X4. I love it and more importantly, my wife loves it. I considered all of the competition. Once I figured out that I could afford one, the decision was pretty simple. And I've been getting just over 20 MPG with it - probably just how and where we drive. I didn't think that I'd care for the auto stop/start system but it works so smoothly that I don't mind it at all.

      Not saying you should reconsider, but remember that if the Sequoia is that old, most any replacement parts or servicing should be quite reasonable compared to something like this new Expedition. It may not have the features or pizzazz, but it should have a leg up in terms of reliability, longevity and overall running costs.

    TH-cam doesn’t seem to recognize the truly wider potential of their platform. Your channel and a few others are so well developed, that the next logical step would be televised markets. The exposure would extend your brand, far beyond the limitations inherent here. Is it Google that lacks vision or just you? Not trying to hurt feelings here, but I’m thinking It’s time for the best content creators to test the waters outside of this cocoon. Not everyone will succeed, but you have a polished image and honest presentation; things that should transfer well. Just saying. It makes me a bit suspicious of people who have enormous control, but at the same time, marginal vision ........

    • @mountainhobo
      @mountainhobo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Streaming is growing, broadcast is shrinking. Alex is in the right market. Fewer and fewer people I know even have TVs anymore. Today this may be mostly a coastal phenomenon, but it is coming to the rest of America. The obituary of the broadcast TV has already been written. It is just a matter of time now.

    • @deepdoodle1
      @deepdoodle1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Bruce. MountainHobo: I don’t believe he should abandon TH-cam, I believe he could expand his BRAND. Look, he is doing a fantastic job with an industry that has a profound impact on the lives of everyone on this planet. His voice isn’t the only one, but it is profoundly honest. You don’t see that everywhere. That to me has value, and potentially others who might be reached through differing mediums may benefit. I subscribe to many TH-cam channels, paid network subscriptions and such, and I am convinced that the old saying, ‘The more the merrier’, definitely applies here. Quality, the man puts out quality, and if TH-cam doesn’t get it: just thinking outside your box here; maybe there is a company or network who does .........

    Alex, thank you for this great review! I have 4 kids (they are all younger than 10 years of age) and I need an SUV with sufficient luggage space behind the 3rd row. I am considering the Mercedes GLS, Infiniti QX80 and, perhaps, this Ford Expedition Max. Would you (or anybody else here) know which one of these 3 SUVs has most luggage space behind the 3rd row? Many thanks!

      Najee Jackson Aviator is a spacious and great looking large SUV like Navigator but I like frame body. Which I think more safer when comes to collision with other heavy vehicles.

      Agree, and this is their first generation model. It will likely to have more issues, and will be fixed/resolved in the next generation. First generation purchasers are guinea pigs for the automakers.

    I have a 2016 chevy tahoe , the The main reason why I choose the Tahoe over the expedition is the naturally aspirated V8
    gm's small block v8 last forever and I attempt to keep the car for a long time

      Hani Alrefaei The expedition is the most reliable suv in its segment according to jd power. Considering the fact that this engine has been made more reliable with time, I expect it to remain that way.

    I surely hope you figured out that that is a shelf. I know this is an older video for you but you have some very rough edges to fix. No one cares about totalling the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd seats legroom together. They want the individual numbers when deciding between them. Comparing one size to lower sizes is a no go as well. Comparing totally different segments is a no. Lastly for the love of all holy, please stop calling it a crossover. Why and when did this start. The explorer has always been an SUV and this is the expedition we are talking about so it of course is an SUV. If people are getting their info from you, they need help. I mean you gave me a good resolution to view your video give you that and the camera angles weren't bad either.
    Sorry if this sounds crass, I feel you have some massive potential if you did your homework. Perhaps this segment isn't your forte.

    Honestly, forget minivans. This is the way to go. I know the odyssey has like 30 extra cubic feet of cargo space, but most of that comes from how low the floor is and how useful is that space really; length is where it’s at. Also this can tow, which is something no minivan can do well. The only deal breaker is the V6. I know this has more torque than a Yukon Denali or Tahoe RST, but the those have more power and fuel economy is about the same (6.2L V8). I wish ford still offered this with a V8 because then I’d be all over it. Also I would easily get this over a Navigator. I really don’t like the styling of the Navigator or the interior and the feature content doesn’t sway me much aside from the more adjustable seats
