    So I have a great idea of what's wrong now. I bought a Bullet Train kit from Bikeberry and was given an adjustable exhaust pipe. Yeah, adjustable. The gasket I was given was almost like a copper o-ring. I had a spare exhaust gasket that I thought would work but it was too thick and covered a decent amount of the port. But I was wondering if that would also cause the engine to backfire loudly and stall if it has an excess of exhaust gasses?

    • @asphaltcowboy7868
      @asphaltcowboy7868 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's called port matching..port the exhaust gasket so it will match the exhaust port on the cylinder as well as the intake side of exhaust..

    Since my last visit I've learned a lot about tuning.
    It 4strokes at 3/4 rpm. After that it picks up and revs all the way out. WOT all the way through but one stupid rpm range. So frustrated. (Filter removed, 66jet, removed cap and the plug at the end that holds the bolt that holds the cap so it's a straight pipe, and the needle is set to leanest position, plug at 25)
    The plug is oily around the base the electrode is darker than brown.

    Usually a bad gasket somewhere makes it do this most of the time or the pin set to far down on the carb making it too rich

    • @HughesMotorized
      @HughesMotorized  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Main jet is for open throttle. Needle is for 1/4 to 3/4 throttle. 4 stroking is referring to full throttle @ max RPM. A bad gasket will make it run poorly from idle to wide open. But ya, if the clip is too low on the needle it will run rich 1/4 to 3/4 throttle.

    If i remeber right, the motor manual writes that the spark plug gap must be 0.4-0.5 mm. I am using an NGK B6HS spark plug. I a near at sea. With wider gap there will be problem with the cylinder?

    • @HughesMotorized
      @HughesMotorized  ปีที่แล้ว

      Bigger spark plug gap makes a bigger spark up to a point. The larger the gap, the more voltage is needed to jump the gap. Most experienced tuners know that increasing the gap size increases the spark area exposed to the air-fuel mixture, which maximizes burn efficiency

    What do you think the culprit is for 4 stroking in low rpm range? My engine 4 strokes until past 3/4 throttle. Then it screams at full throttle sounding a little lean. Plug looks perfect brown. Current clip position 2nd notch from top. I tried top notch and was way too lean. Also I've inspected thoroughly for for vacuum leaks repeatedly and none found.

    • @HughesMotorized
      @HughesMotorized  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have the skills and do it right, then yes balancing can make for a better running engine. Is it mandatory? No. However some are better balanced than others from the factory

    • @michaelbrinks8089
      @michaelbrinks8089 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How much does your engine vibrate?
      Iv'e only had 1 bike engine so far but from what Iv'e read. I think I might have got 1 that is a bit better balanced than a dud engine. But I don't have any balanced crank bike engine to compare it to.
      It vibrates a lot if you rev it up with the clutch pulled in sitting still but most vibration goes away once I'm riding/moving. That's very similar to how my Buell/Harley V-twin engine is. Vibrates like crazy at idle & revved up in neutral but 90% goes away once you're in motion.
      I notice my 4hp, larger cc, 2 stroke snow blower seems to have less vibration than my bike engine. But just might be because it has rubber engine mounts. Wish I had a balanced 2 stroke bike engine to compare with.
      I guess I'm gonna spend $50 more on a VM22 carb & G2 reed kit. The windowed piston will be a slightly lighter, so I'm curious to see if I'll have slightly less vibration.
      I heard you can get just as much or more power than a reed kit by just using bigger/better carb & proper port work. But due to clearance issues, I'm gonna give a bigger carb/reed kit a try. If it'll get more power, slightly less vibration & stop engine from spitting gas out the carb. Then I think it'll be a win.

    Just remember, too rich causes power loss and fouls plugs. Too lean seizes engines and burns holes in pistons. Be very sure it is too rich before going to a smaller jet, and only go down ONE size. Then keep a close eye on the plug. It should be a dark brown, but not black. I am not a fan of "plug chops" To me that is a gimmick that really doesn't tell you anything. I like to put 25-50 miles on a plug, under different riding conditions, and then check it. If your 2 stroke engine has been fouling plugs, and you didn't mix too much oil with the gas, you can safely go down one size and put some miles on it. And remember, an engine will always run best when it is right on the edge of being too lean. That is something you don't want.
