Sounds nice. But I’m so glad I do most of my work via iPad because Eventide’s apps top out at £15. Tbh I’ve not yet paid that much for a hardware synth (but only cos the Dreadbox Typhon is out of stock ‘til October...)
Haha! I thought your monitor in the background was your window (as the blind continues above it). I was like WTAF is going on outside Ricky's wndow?!! I want me some of those psychedelic northern lights!!!
No. Blackhole is just one of 12 different core algorytms of Eventide Space, you can find it in H9 as well, both of which are just short of double the price for the black hole.
At the time of writing, BH was £250, ES was £400 and H9 Max was £600. Value depends on how much of everything else you will use. If all you want is the Blackhole effect, spending more than you need to is pointless. Might as well get the one thing that does what you want, and does it well. The H9 Max is really there for people who can't make their mind up, think they need everything, but rarely use more than 10% of its capability. In that case, a total waste of money. For me, the ES is a decent middle ground because its in the same family, has more controls, and a display so you don't get as lost easily.
@@X22GJP I use Space, as I find H overwhelming as you mentioned. Eventide algorytms are industry strandard for me, honestly. I use Space both as a pedal but more often as fx unit with drykill on. I do have really nice Brikasti reverb but I still go for Eventide for some algos. Black Hole only though - I dont think it warrants full on pedal, but thats just my opinion. You can find space for 400 used, they are built like a brick. I love Strymon reverbs too, Chase as well, but ES is spot on bang for the buck.
I am an oldie with synths but a newby on pedals. I wish I saw this video 24 hours ago. Just ordered an EHX Superego Plus - which is big on Freeze, but only Mono. Would have preferred stereo. BUT. Ricky, I'd love to see a video just on your favorite effects pedals to use with the Octatrack in this way. I've seen you use the Ottobit and Zoia. Any others?
I have the Eventide Space but really want a second reverb pedal. I like the ventris, mercury 7, Big sky & night sky. Of those 4 what would compliment the Space verb the most?
Cool review:) i've some doubts about how to connect in stereo from a modular synth. In my case there are two scenarios: 1) Do I leave the modular with mono minijack, enter the blackhole with stereo Jack? (what kind of cable should I get?) 2) I go out with two (2 mono minijacks) from Strymon Magneto and go towards the blackhole, I will need a stereo jack cable and on the other side two mono minijacks. Thanks
I I've used the Blackhole VST exclusively, but have since went to just a hardware setup (for many reasons), so this is going to be a welcome addition to the setup. Thanks for a great review Ricky. This video sealed the deal :)
Nope - its not the same algorhythm as the plugin. You can NOT get the beautiful sound of the plugin with the pedal 😞 Eventide confirmed that after I got my pedal, was heavily disappointed and wrote them, Really bad marketing using the same name for this pedal.
@@VincentsVideoVisions Haha that's so weird cause I have the Mercury and the Ventris and I think the Mercury is better, but it just goes to show that no piece of gear is objectively better, its really just about what you like.
Just came back to this video after deciding I need a reverb pedal to pair with my OT and Swarm (yeah, I know... spring reverb into digital reverb?? = yes, sue me). Wanted to ask as the online manual doesn't state, what does the modulation actually modulate?? Great video Ricky, love the positive vibes you bring to everything, keep it up!
I don't know what vid to comment on but help a brotha out. I currently do not own any DAWless hardware (do own 4 Akai Fire and an MPK mini) and am ready for my first. Looking at the Volca series but don't want to end up buying them all when I could have just bought something else that had more features built into fewer pieces or even one piece... I'm sure you know where I'm going with this Enrique. I can't justify an MPC (yet). Grooveboxes? Tr-8s? Digitakt? Pocket Operators? Volcas? Where do we start?!
I suspect the Blackhole is a most of the reason people use the Space (or the H9) so from that perspective it's value. It definitely feels like you're buying a specific algorithm (and the Gravity knob) more than flexibility or other factors.
I think the trend recently is people are paying more for simple gear. The consumer market for pro audio equipment has blown up, and now the average consumer doesn't want to take the time to read manuals or menu dive anymore. They want a few knobs that do cool shit (I can't blame them. it's super fun). Capable gear with more features has been flying under the radar in the past few years. For example, there are tons of awesome workstation synths from the 90's and 00's for dirt cheap on the used market, but people avoid them like the plague because they're huge and complex, and often labeled as "keyboards".
Kind of pointless to me as a Space owner. The one thing I'm curious about, is if it's running on an ARM core internally like the H9000.. in which case it'd be a "ported" version of the algorithm rather than the original DSP version (although from what I hear they've done a great job of porting these between different types of hardware as far as H8000 vs H9000 goes)
Will it record the mouse that it makes as you make adjustments? I personally like some of the sounds that are made while making adjustments at it would be nice to catch/sample some ..Thanks for the video..
I dunno. I'm not feeling it. I'm not even convinced by the algorithm on the plugin so I guess it's not for me. Value proposition seems iffy unless you're a guitar player or you have a strong need for it when playing live.
As a plugin it's great, I typically add reverb later so you can dial it in. Also being able to draw in automation is huge which you can't really do with the pedal aside from an expression pedal...oh wait it does have midi so nevermind, this thing is totally worth it.
If you have to compare that eventide blackhole reverb with Source Audio Ventris Dual Reverb Pedal. Which one do you think sound better or have more options for you?

You can use the Cue outputs as an FX send, so the Cue level of each track becomes the send amount.
