    Listening to this via Bluetooth while I was prepping something to eat.. sometime shortly after the 18 min mark I stopped what I was doing and walked over to my laptop with a grin on my face thinking "Hot damn!" Then, at the exact moment when I look at the screen, I see Ricky look up at the camera with a similar grin on his face, saying: "Duuude..!" Absolutely made my day!
    Thanks for all the quality content, I really enjoy it and I've learned a whole lot from your channel! Cheers!

  • @earlsfield
    @earlsfield 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    No. Blackhole is just one of 12 different core algorytms of Eventide Space, you can find it in H9 as well, both of which are just short of double the price for the black hole.

    • @X22GJP
      @X22GJP ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At the time of writing, BH was £250, ES was £400 and H9 Max was £600. Value depends on how much of everything else you will use. If all you want is the Blackhole effect, spending more than you need to is pointless. Might as well get the one thing that does what you want, and does it well. The H9 Max is really there for people who can't make their mind up, think they need everything, but rarely use more than 10% of its capability. In that case, a total waste of money. For me, the ES is a decent middle ground because its in the same family, has more controls, and a display so you don't get as lost easily.

    • @earlsfield
      @earlsfield ปีที่แล้ว

      @@X22GJP I use Space, as I find H overwhelming as you mentioned. Eventide algorytms are industry strandard for me, honestly. I use Space both as a pedal but more often as fx unit with drykill on. I do have really nice Brikasti reverb but I still go for Eventide for some algos. Black Hole only though - I dont think it warrants full on pedal, but thats just my opinion. You can find space for 400 used, they are built like a brick. I love Strymon reverbs too, Chase as well, but ES is spot on bang for the buck.

    Cool review:) i've some doubts about how to connect in stereo from a modular synth. In my case there are two scenarios:
    1) Do I leave the modular with mono minijack, enter the blackhole with stereo Jack? (what kind of cable should I get?)
    2) I go out with two (2 mono minijacks) from Strymon Magneto and go towards the blackhole, I will need a stereo jack cable and on the other side two mono minijacks. Thanks

Looking at the Volca series but don't want to end up buying them all when I could have just bought something else that had more features built into fewer pieces or even one piece... • @kbirridia
      @kbirridia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I suspect the Blackhole is a most of the reason people use the Space (or the H9) so from that perspective it's value. It definitely feels like you're buying a specific algorithm (and the Gravity knob) more than flexibility or other factors.

      I think the trend recently is people are paying more for simple gear. The consumer market for pro audio equipment has blown up, and now the average consumer doesn't want to take the time to read manuals or menu dive anymore. They want a few knobs that do cool shit (I can't blame them. it's super fun). Capable gear with more features has been flying under the radar in the past few years. For example, there are tons of awesome workstation synths from the 90's and 00's for dirt cheap on the used market, but people avoid them like the plague because they're huge and complex, and often labeled as "keyboards".

    Kind of pointless to me as a Space owner. The one thing I'm curious about, is if it's running on an ARM core internally like the H9000.. in which case it'd be a "ported" version of the algorithm rather than the original DSP version (although from what I hear they've done a great job of porting these between different types of hardware as far as H8000 vs H9000 goes)

      @@DroppedandSkrewed the dm12 is less expensive, easier to find, more polyphony, nice effects, and can sound just as good. Juno's are nice but extremely overpriced

    how to you send reverb to certain tracks but not others

    • @weyoun6535
      @weyoun6535 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can use the Cue outputs as an FX send, so the Cue level of each track becomes the send amount.

    I love me some Octatrack... but... it always changes the sound routed through it so the set up here is not a 'clean' playback of the blackhole.

      Course that subtle sound difference might not show up at all on TH-cam file compression

    Thanks Ricky for always sharing the great stuff. I uploaded a new music video last night #hOrnPlaYErzensmoothie
    Hello and Welcome
    This channel has original music and video creations that have been inspired by the voices and sounds of my Korg Minilogue , the Behringer ms101 and some Pocket Operators 33 and 35 the Speak and KO, also utilizing the software synth Hybrid from the Akai library. I was able to learn how to use these tools from some inspiring teachers/artists/absolute gems, thank you TrueCUCKOO , RickyTinez , Lookmumnocomputer , AndrewHuang and SimontheMagpie , if you need inspiration check these cats out. Inspired by melodic and free fusion Jazz many thanks to KPLU 88.5 for being my practice partner and lone friend many a inspired night. Thank you Weather Report, Santana, Stevie Wonder, James Brown , Tower of Power and the other billion artists that have added piles of tinder upon my fiery passion to share music and art. #bikegarrett

    One more TH-cam demonstration of a reverb pedal in mono. Didn't expect you'd be one of them Ricky. **sigh**

    I always love your videos, but just not feeling the sound of the algorithm. I think I might be a bit of a reverb snob though.

    It sounds good, but I guess I don't completely understand the point of this pedal when you could prob pick up a mint Space 2nd hand or b-stock for $350-400 if you are a bit patient, which is only around 100 dollars more for waaaaay more sounds and options. If it was a smaller footprint pedal, I could kinda get with it, but the enclosure isn't even that much smaller than the Space. Seems sorta like a marketing ploy tbh, but maybe I'm missing something. Does this pedal do anything or have any features the Space doesn't?
