    Dude, the quality of your videos is superb. From the video quality, to your oozing intelligence, your undeniable experience and wisdom, and just the kick back with your homie and make some music sort of vibes, you just effortlessly create content that is absolutely wonderful. I don't give my time to much these days simply because I don't have any to spare... But for the masterpiece thst is your channel, I have all damn day. Keep it up. Love your work. Wish I could work with you.

    I just got a CXM 1978, and it sounds beautiful. One thing that really irritated me, though - it’s a $900 pedal, and they didn’t bother to include a power supply!
    This video is great, I love the way you cover all the aspects of the unit, the whole time making music. Your passion for music really comes through, and it makes your videos quite enjoyable.

      If I had everything setup to run into my iMac, I'd probably just keep one trashy lo-fi reverb for guitar. VintageVerb, UAD's 224 and 480 emulations, Relab's 480 - I haven't heard a pedal beat any of them yet. (and I have a Space and a CXM 1978 and used to have a Bam.)

    • @bobyatron7525
      @bobyatron7525 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah This thing sounds great, but I don’t see how you compete with software these days when asking $800 for a dsp reverb. Even the most expensive stuff like UAD... goes for half off several times a year, and you could buy more of their reverbs plus the Valhalla stuff for that price.

    • @Reyescult
      @Reyescult 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      20 years after your software reverb throws in the towel this thing will still be doing work. Well, maybe not the motors on the faders! That said, $800-900 is a bit much for a reverb pedal.

  • @TonyAndersonMusic

    It stresses me out that when the faders are right next to each other they’re crooked. Looks like a manufacturing defect… Wish they had put some more thought into tightening those faders up

    I can say from experience I’ve owned 2 or 3 lex 960 with lark. They were in each control room and the top of the lime tc electronics. With their lark controller thing. Expensive stuff. All records for live Inst we used the lex 960. They where next level for sure. And I had all the cards in them. Even people who don’t know verbs well could tell that there algorithms on the 960 where just more real. We also in the mix room would use those line six rack mount ones and mixers loved those for sure. The other secret sauce was the electrix units that DJ’s used to use. Those were super dope and different.

      @@krxwnvxk3432 So, Empress Reverb (arguably best sounding verb pedal out there still) costs half of this, so does the SA Ventris (or Supercollider if you want Delay instead of dual-verb), both VERY good sounding and more versatile verbs, so that's two of the best for the same price of this one.
      Let's see, for a unique one we could get a Meris Mercury7 (quite adventurous, lots of cool features, though a bit focused on "going big"), and a Red Panda Context v2, and that still leaves enough money for a Boss RV500 (for versatility) or a Strymon (for less but better sounds), all for roughly the same price as a single CXM.

    18:35 Ricky brings up the idea of having presets (more or less) and its technically possible. Motorized faders are actually pretty common in consoles, it wouldn't be unrealistic to think that you could install motorized faders and use a small chip (like some cheap atmega chip or something) to save and recall presets. It'd be a cool addition if they ever decided to make a sequel module.

    • @zeusdeux
      @zeusdeux 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why not just save the current state as a preset, do changes and go back to saved preset?

    • @t7H2si0vß2
      @t7H2si0vß2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zeusdeux Thats exactly what I'm saying. The problem is, there is no way to "save the current state" because the faders arent moterized, therefore theres no way to recall a saved preset. How would you "go back to the saved preset" as you said, if all the faders are in different positions than when you saved the preset? Motorized faders could let you save the position of all the faders, and then recall those positions at a later point.
      if you dont know what motorized faders are, go watch some videos about motorized faders, but your comment basically described exactly the problem I was talking about in my first comment

    Nice review, thanks. It's a superb sounding 'verb, no doubting that, but I don't know if i'd pay £900 for it, although I do have a lot of vintage 'verbs already, both pro and budget units, - I wonder how much cheaper it would be without the motorized faders, - they could probably use LEDs to serve the same function, I guess. There's a lot of modern competition out there and a lot of secondhand alternatives that offer a similar vibe, - the OTO BAM or a secondhand Roland DEP-5 both come to mind, both fine machines, although both are unbalanced.
    love to ALL, feel no hate

      corrosiveabuser if these are motorized bourns faders these are 20€ resale price.... the switches are like 5€ each. In bulk orders these prices drop significantely.
      You pay for the concept and development. And that's absolutely ok. Even if I can't afford this before it hits the used market in '25 :)

    Seems like rotaries with leds would have saved a ton of cost on this. Really don't see the point of moving faders...

      I hate using endless rotaries. I find it much harder to just feel out where I’m at while concentrating on other things. Personally I much prefer having start/stop points I can feel without having to look at every knob I’m turning

      The enclosure (with moving faders, etc.) was a main feature of the amp pedal it was originally designed for. It was never built/designed to cut costs. It's supposed to be a high end product built with quality components. So you're absolutely right. But thats not what they were aiming for... Most pedals on the market do cut costs. This one does not. That's the point.

      Nick Clough To add to that, the form factor of the Automatone preamp (the pedal they designed the motorised fader enclosure for) was very similar to the Lexicon 224 reverb which was the inspiration for this reverb pedal.
