    I thought the Sloer had the most character, really beautiful.

    Great video! Really helpful. They all are great. I really connect personally with the Sloer but the other two sound wonderful too.

    I have the Sloer and love it, but after watching this I’m tempted by the Blackhole too.

    I use the Blackhole, UltraTap, and Fable for reverb duties. The Blackhole needs no explanation but I've fallen in love with the width you can get with the UltraTap in your "Cloud" setting. I've also played around with fewer delay taps and slur on the UltraTap to get "pitch shifty" type sounds. If the UltraTap is fed a pitch LFO or a chorus the effect is there with an amazing soundstage. I'm curious about the Sloer for the lofi tones but I also like to have all the things........lol. Great video as always!

    Great comparison! Beautiful video to watch. I’m assuming these all sum to mono before applying the effects-is that correct? If they do, does that preserve the stereo input signal as the dry signal underneath the reverb?

    • @YukiTheSynthDragon
      @YukiTheSynthDragon  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes the signal is summed for the wet side but the dry is kept as stereo.

    This reminded me that the Blackhole is solid, refined, and in a class by itself. I am guessing this is because of Eventide's long history with digital effects engineering. I do like some of the features on the Sloer, though admittedly have not used one.

    The Cloudburst sounds like heaven. I own one since your previous review on it (and thanks for that !). The ensemble mode can quickly sound overwhelming but if you fine tune all the knobs for each synth path you're using, you can quickly find the sweet spot and just fly above the clouds ❤
    Nevertheless, I don't know if you encountered this issue but I tried to use a sustain pedal with the Cloudburst to activate its Freeze Mode. When the mode is not enabled and the mix is over than 50% (3/4 of the knob) the output sound is glitchy as if the DSP cannot handle something. But when the mode is enabled, everything is back to normal. I tested the Infinite Mode but no issue with it. I wonder if the problem is here with the Strymon MiniSwitch too 😅

      Never used the freeze mode yet on the cloudburst. They have a firmware update that lets you change how much of the ensemble gets blended in. It might fix some bugs as well.

      @@YukiTheSynthDragon Didn't know that. I'll update the firmware and see if it changes. Thank you!

      @@YukiTheSynthDragon So, the firmware update did fix the issue ! Otherwise, do you know what knob is used to change the mp ensemble mix ? (it seems it's not used for forte ?) I really can't find anywhere the documentation for that...

    In that initial "overall quality test", the Sloer is noticeably lower-fi and more diffuse.
    With the three chained, that's cool but the pitch shifting has to be dialed back on each or it is way too much in total, and much less of the Cloudburst's ensemble. Running a lower-fi reverb before others is the right way to go, in my opinion, so you did that right. Increasing pre-delay as you go down the chain also helps, but I think the Blackhole actually lacks that, if I recall correctly? I tried that one briefly at the beginning of the year and resold it (and I regret it these days).
    I like the Blackhole best. Cloudburst is like, "oh, _that_ sound that is everywhere."

    • @YukiTheSynthDragon
      @YukiTheSynthDragon  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the black hole technically has pre delay in the form of its delay section that also includes feedback for the delay portion.

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@YukiTheSynthDragon delay section for the delay effect that can go in reverse?
      I meant the pre-delay as in, "the timing offset before the reverb actually kicks in," typically used to help transients come through a little cleaner. I don't remember finding that on the Blackhole when I looked for it. My Walrus Descent definitely lacks it altogether and my Walrus R1 has it hard-coded in the form of an input threshold, so it doesn't ever start with your usual slow-attack synth pad if you happen to want that.
      Reverbs chained together benefit from having staggered pre-delays, with the offset increasing as you go further down a chain - so say, the first reverb is set to 0ms pre-delay, next one is set to 100ms, and the last one is set to 200ms. Just an example, I dial in begger differences than that, typically The actual values can be whatever sounds best to you with your setup of any kind.
      The Descent also has pitch-shifting both downwards and upwards like the Sloer. You can have one or the other or both at any time.The Descent also has an "extra dry signal" nob that can add a layer of the dry signal to the reverb. Turning that down completely gives you an "extra wet" sound that sends any sound to the "back" of a mix like nothing else I have or have heard, even versus my VST plug-ins. Walrus Audio told me over email a long time ago that they are toying with the idea of a more compact Descent in the R1's form factor.

    I sold the black hole 🤦‍♂️
    It really is a perfect Reverb for synths . It’s so clean and it doesn’t get in the way. I’ll buy it again soon. so I change my mind as of today I’m all about the sloer. Sounds so good. I have a board for my guitars, but I also wanted a Reverb that sounds great on synthesizers and I feel like the sloer is so good for both.

      So, you think the NightSky is a better version of the Sloer? I have the big sky, looking to return it, because i only care about the cloud and chorale reverbs in the BigSky. I want super-ambient sounds, and I wonder if the NightSky can achieve that as well as the Sloer pedal.

    • @LoVeAmBiEnT
      @LoVeAmBiEnT 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Completely changed my mind. I would have to say the sloer wins. I will admit the night sky after some use with it has way too much harmonic information in the Reverb so it gets in the way of your playing when using synthesizers. It sounds good on guitar and piano, but that’s in my opinion. I sold it. I had the cloud excellent pedal, but I sold it The black hole is amazing It’s nice and clean. You can do the soundscape thing with it. Of course I sold it lol I’m going to buy the sloer for the second time. After really critically listening, it just sounds so amazing. Sometimes it takes a few times to really get it and it’s so amazing.
