Killer that you dig the Iridium so much! I'm pushing 30, and ever since I was a kid I dreamed of getting a tube amp. I made my dream come true in my early twenties by purchasing a twin reverb for $1,500 and paying it off over 5 years. Never in my LIFE did I think that modelers would become so good - and that I would use them so much. I got the Dream '65 but I swapped over to the Lion '68, all while my amp sits in storage. For a modern guitarist, it genuinely makes so much sense to just invest in nice studio monitors and commit to a modeling pedal. I love my tone and the consistency - and I haven't looked back.
Glad you talked about the tremolo in the Mobius, I've always wondered and I haven't seen anyone talk extensively about using it until now. Big trem fan/user here. Also glad you're talking about the Keeley Dark Side, I think it's slept on just bc it's technically a multi-effect. Thinking of picking up an El Cap v1 or a Flint if I can find one for a good price used.
Interesting video! I think you should give the Riverside another chance if you find one used, because it pairs well with the Iridium, and is versatile enough to be your only drive pedal. It's not going to do anything crazy though. Compadre is great too, but it's more of a utility pedal where it just does its thing but is not exciting in any way. For me, the Nightsky got sold because I felt it was too much for what I wanted out of a reverb. Flint V2 is on its way out because I find the SA Collider sounds better and don't need the tremolo that much. Volante is still my favorite Strymon, with El Cap V2 and Deco V2 close behind.
Big fan! I had the iridium for 3 years as my everything pedal and I eventually did desire a “better” amp modeler because I play in a band with someone using a UA dream and it was actually difficult to compete in the mix. I switched to a Tonex one and have had a MUCH better time in that context. Idk what it is, but there’s something about the iridium that sounds good in isolation and is fine if you can mix it in post, but just doesn’t have the same top end bite as many other amp sim pedals. The Tonex Ones are cheap enough I recommend grabbing one and downloading some free sample captures and seeing what you think.
I’ve had the Iridium since it came out. I have “better” modelers now, but the Iridium has consistently stayed on my big board. I know it sounds weird (and I know I’m not alone in this) but that headphone jack makes everything sound glorious. With that said, I think the chime setting is the only decent one. I’ve never tried the ToneX but I’ve heard good things
@@waltuhhimself Of course eq is there for a reason, but if I could just improve the signal coming in, why wouldn’t I just do that? Improving the signal coming in makes even MORE mixing sense than using the eq, smartass
@@CyberattackWorld That piano is awesome. I don't know of any electric/electronic piano which has THAT sound. Add your Ola pedal (or any chorus) and that thing rocks. Too bad its a boat anchor.
I sold the Iridium in favor of UAFX, it was ok. I took the Timeline off my board in favor of V2 versions of the El Cap and DIG. And I love the BigSky. Crazy how much our preferences differ. Great vid though.
Here I am with the Orbit as my only Strymon pedal, lol. Orbit is actually great. It's a flanger but there's a mix knob, so I use it as flanger, chorus, and vibrato. You can also mix LFO and Feedback settings to get a nice phasey sound or a thicker sound, etc. You can find Orbits now for like 150 so I think they're worth it for someone looking for a good flanger. It definitely doesn't get very weird, though. Not sure why they took it out of production, I guess it didn't sell well.
I feel bad for Zelda. I only have the Deco. I love the slightly noisy saturation that really plays well with other things, although it's not currently on the pedalboard so there's that.
I agree with your Big Sky take. I love reverb, but it took until Meris released the Mercury X for me to pull the trigger on a big box modern reverb pedal (came close to buying the Empress Reverb a few times though). The Big Sky is fun but there are many things about it that kept me away, including its workflow.
People are still sleeping on Mobius in the comments... It's actually the only Strymon I have, but it is stellar in it's versatility! The Pattern Trem and Quadrature (ring mod stuff) are exceptionally deep and weird. Wondering what they might add if they do an "MX" version.
The only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on Mobius is because it feels like the moment I do, I'm going to wake up on Tuesday and see that it's now the previous gen version.
Love your channel, the best gear head on youtube in my opinion. i don’t really like Strymon personally. But the one pedal i do like you didn’t review…OB.1. Because i don’t like Strymon i’m gonna say it’s an Ultra Tier because it overcame my brand prejudice on performance alone. That’s pretty impressive since aesthetics usually dominate my product purchases unless i’m searching for a specific effect. It’s a sleeper pedal in the Strymon range. And it shows how most youtube guys just buy what everyone else does. Luckily my friend’s a corporate touring professional. And he had this pedal, only guy i’ve ever seen use it. It’s got a great feel. Replaced both the BBE clean boost and compressor he was using for years. Clean Boost is the gem that most youtubers havent discovered yet. Pick one up before they become impossible to find.
Thanks for the comment. The only reason I didn't mention the OB-1 is that my understanding is the Compadre is meant to have replaced it (but I've never played the Compadre either).
Never had the DIG or Volante, but I would assume I would prefer the DIG. However, I totally appreciate your perspective in valuing flexibility/tweakability over the emulation capability. I think the ability to recreate other things is overvalued. 'What should we do with new tech?' 'Recreate old tech. Recreate old tech. Recreate old tech.' Could anything be more boring?!
Once upon a Timeline, the Big Sky was Ultra-tier. But yeah, I agree, it's been bettered by now - the current Ultra-tier reverb being the Meris Mercury X, for me. Or Death By Audio Rooms, depending what you are looking for. For touring/live rigs, working with real amps, I'd nudge Flint up to Ultra. It's an absolute staple and just sounds so right, for studio session work too. Putting the fact it's digital aside, I think Strymon Riverside sounds really damn good. And in certain contexts could be the centre-piece of a board. So I'd put it at Mid-tier. Timeline, idk, I loved it at the time, but these days I'd take an Empress Echosystem, for compact, or a Meris LVX for power, or a Boss DM-101 for tone. And, especially given the price and the lo-fi settings, Walrus MAKO M1 for size/price/flexibility and UAD Astra for tone bump Mobius down a tier, for me.
Highly recommend the Sunset! One of most if not the most versatile overdrives I have tried. I use the MIDI functionality and it unlocked a whole other level of versatility. The only other MIDI overdrive I can think of is the Boss OD-200, which I haven't tried but I am not at all left wanting with the Sunset
Would’ve loved to see you love the el Cap as much as me. I get it, you have the Timeline, however you could make another kickass video out of it and I could then finally see what the hell I can use these secondary functions for lol
I'd really appreciate it if you could do something for me. Right now, Strymon has a time-limited demo for their new El Cap VST. I generally hate working in the box, but one thing I noticed is that the VST version has a three-head mode, which makes my OCD brain go haywire. My ask is if you could try out the VST, and tell me if you miss the three-head mode going back to the physical version. In general, the UI on the VST seems legitimately slick in the way that PC interfaces can when they are done properly. They could get close if they added an OLED, but now we're in what if land.
I also had and sold the Big Sky. Right now the Cloudburst is the main reverb on my board, and I'm loving it. Iridium is never coming off of my board. The next Strymon product I'm interested is their Starlab eurorack module.
A lot of the recovery effects pedals have “how hard you hit the pedal changes the amount/depth of effect” stuff. I suspect you’d dig their stuff very much.
I missed the Brigadier. I have 5 Strymon pedals and 3 of them are (almost) always on. Those three are the Deco (only the right side and barely audible. I use it as a doubler), the Flint for the reverb (just because it sounds good) and the Brigadier which is also almost always on and again set to thicken up the sound. I don’t play hardrock, but if you have ever heard the first Van Halen album, listen to it again and pay attention to the subtle delay on songs like “On Fire” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘bout Love”. Especially “On Fire”…., you never really notice the delay as you would on lots of other songs, but if you play Eddie’s guitar parts and you don’t use that subtle delay, it just doesn’t sound right. Of course Eddie used an old tape delay, so something like the El Capastan or the Volante may seem more appropriate for this stuff, but I don’t know…, I think the Brigadier just sounds more genuine and especially more pleasing to me. The other two Strymon pedals I use are (1) the DIG (all of them are the latest versions of these pedals), but I actually don’t use it that much. Sounds good, but I just don’t need it as often as I thought I would. And (2) the Cloudburst. When this pedal came out and I heard the orchestral sounds it can create, I knew it would completely change the way I wanted to record the songs I wrote. It blew me away. In demo videos I’ve only heard people exploring this pedal and when they come to the interesting part they hardly ever show the potential of that sound. But if you can get one guitar to sound like an orchestra, without making it too sterile (which is what I like so much about it - it doesn’t sound like a synth pad, it sounds like you’re playing with living entities with brains and hearts), imagine dubbing multiple lines with a bass guitar to ‘mimic’ a section of contra bass, cello and low brass, orchestral like chords, another guitar playing counter melodies and high up there a velvety violin like sound played with an E-Bow, all mixed and balanced well. This sounds a hundred times better to me than anything you could play using synths with real orchestral sounds. I could find amazingly good alternatives for every Strymon pedal on the market, but I haven’t heard anything (yet) that can do that Cloudburst thing. If there’s one pedal I would absolutely LOVE to have, it would be the NightSky. I haven’t heard a lot of it yet, but WHAT I heard was absolutely amazing, so that one’s high up my list. The one pedal that was good when it came out, especially for the things that both you and I use it for, but lost its position against its competitors drastically in my opinion, is the Iridium. I’ve always played and loved AC30’s, but I never heard anything that sounded even close to an old AC30. I was just about to purchase the Iridium, although there were some good competitors (I particularly liked the more ‘organic’ sound of the Simplifier) when all of a sudden UAFX brought out the Ruby (AC30), the Dream (‘65 Deluxe Reverb) and the Woodrow (‘55 Fender Tweed amp). I didn’t hesitate and bought the Ruby. Purely coincidental I bought the Dream last week, 2nd hand for €250. The level of detail is mind boggling. Especially the Dream. I never regretted this decision. They recently added a Dumble style amp to this line. I believe they have six amp types now. Of course only a handful of people have actually played a real Dumble amp and the ones who have don’t need a pedal-amp like this. So nobody knows for sure if it truly sounds, plays and reacts like a Dumble. But it sounds absolutely gorgeous. And specifically for this one they added the possibility to tweak its sound fully to your liking. Anyway, I think you made it perfectly clear that you’re happy with what you have. Still, if you can find a way to try the Dream for a week, then do it. I think you will like it a lot. Thanks for the video. I had a fun time watching it. 😊🧡
I expect you probably already know this but, the Quadrature mode of the Mobius can be used for dynamics controlled modulation like the envelope mode on the Ola. I don't think it can do chorusing, but it can definitely be used for reactive tremolo, vibrato, and ring mod-esque sounds.
It's really interesting to me that you landed on Deco for stereo field creation. Not that it's a good or bad choice, but because I'm literally working on a bucket brigade comb filter circuit for creating a stereo field as I watch this video. Strymon tends to do everything via DSP, which is above my pay grade... but I'm intrigued to see pedals like Surfy Industries Stereomaker landing. I wonder if that's something you'd check out?
Man, you 100% had me up until the Iridium haha. I just don't think it's as realistic as things like the UAFX pedals, kemper player, or tonex. Everything else on the list was pretty spot on (I would probably put my bigsky higher though). Great video!
this rules and is fun and confessional. You may have done this already, but I'ld love to see something like this but with your pedal board generally and pedal collection standouts -what you keep on the board and around and why. What dirt pedals etc. what combos end up being key.

yes, but I don't know how interesting it would be. I'm not really pushing it into unusual territory or doing any of my usual cyber whatever stuff. In general I prefer the Marshall amp and the Vox amp over the Fender amp. Also don't overlook that the Marshall amp can have a good clean tone with the drive knob at like 9 or 10 o'clock. These days usually I leave the room knob on zero, and instead I'll run the Iridium into a stereo reverb with a touch of room-style reverb before recording. That's 99% of my tricks.

I just sold my Volante and bought a v1 El Cap. I didn't use a single preset in the Volante through the years I had it and the El Cap just gets way darker and has full wet available without restarting. I miss the reverse on the SOS in the Volante but otherwise El Cap has been way more fun for me.
I have wanted to try a zelzah for a while. Sad you never made a video on it. I want the zelzah simply for the stereo phaser controls and it sweeping left and right with the phaser sweep. If the mobius does that maybe I gotta look into the mobius

Why are you making me regret selling my deco and iridium??? 😂😂😂 I'm back to my journey of real amp so iridium will be in my back burner. But deco. Definitely thinking about purchasing it again hahaha
Have you experimented with 3rd party IRs with the Iridium, or have you always run stock? York has a bass cab IR that let's me get fat bass tones. Great for either a real bass or when I use the C4 for synth bass.
I really had to think about it, because theres basically nothing I would change. But I guess it would be cool if you could use its cabinet simulation by itself (which I think the BigSky can do), and run a separate preamp into that.
@@CyberattackWorld I have the Big Sky and the cabinet simulation sounds awesome, I use it a lot, the only thing that I wish it would do it’s to be able to apply it on just one side
Couldn’t you use your timeline or any stereo delay for what you use the deco for? The dig has a stereo ping pong delay I use to create a nice stereo chorus sometimes.
My memory of the last time I tried to do this with the TimeLine was that the stereo options for its dual delays were not doing the ping-pong type of thing I wanted. Also the fact that it lives on my board makes it annoying to use on a daily basis for recording, the way I use the Deco.
No surprises with the ultra tier. I've actually been wondering how often you record out of an amp for studio-grade stuff so I appreciate the honesty here. Do you think you'd use tube amp more for practicing/coming up with songs/home recording if you lived in a place free of neighbors? I live in a rural area so I have no fear of noise complaints, and I'm torn between the Iridium or a tube amp as my next purchase. Would appreciate any insight
Check out the UAD dream too. Not as much value as the iridium, but it’s the best amp simp sound bar none (better than fractal, iridium, quad cortex, etc).
For me, the noise issue is only part of it. The other thing is setting microphones-which is an art, and not something I ever practice anymore. So if I had no fear of noise complaints, I would still doubt my ability to set microphones in a way that would sound as good as what the Iridium does automatically.

At some point they took the Orbit out of production-when I was working on this video I noticed it's no longer listed on their website. So that's why I didn't cover it. But if I had, it would have been in the tier of pedals I've never played anyway.
I’ll say what I say everytime. You should be the biggest musician/review/tutorial channel on TH-cam.
You also have a way of keeping it interesting. Maybe a weekly podcast?
“Danger gleams in your eyes” 🤣
It’s lines like this that originally hooked me on your channel and then I realized I love everything else about it. Thx, man!
LOL thank you
ULTRA tier video.
Mobius is in my ultra tier. I need to go back and watch your video on that.
As a strymon fan boi Ive never been more excited for a TH-cam video...
I LOVE the channel and all the animations. I'm obviously going to disagree about the tier list. I'll say this, you know your stuff sir, I mostly agree with your choices and you make great explanations and always entertaining content with the animations and action figures. Every time I check back and I see that you have 30x (and now 35X) the number of subscribers than me, I stop and think "yeah... yeah he deserves it".
I always wondered about what Strymon pedal would rule over others. This is a crucial video.
2:39 the cloudburst is quite good for its size and price. It’s simplicity is its strong suit
I don't own a strymon. Im the #1 Digitech Superfan. But those Strymon Reverbs sound so good in Demos. This video is amazingly helpful.
This video has the craziest energy. I love it
Killer that you dig the Iridium so much!
OK you convinced me about the Riverside.
Use the EQ in your mixing console.
There are EQ knobs in the mixing console for a reason.
@@waltuhhimself Of course eq is there for a reason, but if I could just improve the signal coming in, why wouldn’t I just do that? Improving the signal coming in makes even MORE mixing sense than using the eq, smartass
This channel from day one inspired myself and others to Iridium
Cool video. The only Strymon pedal I have is Night Sky. I like it a lot!
Love the CP-20 in the back on Piano 2 - One of the most underrated EP sounds and the keyboard itself is so cool
OMG... a CP-30. My favorite analog electronic piano. Props.
man i'm glad you caught that
@@CyberattackWorld That piano is awesome. I don't know of any electric/electronic piano which has THAT sound. Add your Ola pedal (or any chorus) and that thing rocks. Too bad its a boat anchor.
@@BlackMan614 I also like how it sounds with a little breakup
Yeah I've always wondered why they took it out of production too.
I can’t wait either
Maaan! I agree in all! Even if I only have the Deco V1, Volante and The Mobius.
Yeah MIDI overdrive is cool
Would’ve loved to see you love the el Cap as much as me. I get it, you have the Timeline, however you could make another kickass video out of it and I could then finally see what the hell I can use these secondary functions for lol
I like my El Capistan but I like old school delays. Also have a Boonar and a basic analog delay
Thanks for explaining tiers.
Need to revisit your Mobius vid after this. Rock on!
The Devo V2 has been a terrific pedal. I can do rotary sounds that are not obnoxious. I like the Riverside a lot as well.
Hey, would you consider doing an in-depth composition video? Your process(es) for actually writing?
I love this suggestion. Thanks, yeah that would be extremely fun.
9:27 your old pal Aevan?! Dwarfcraft Devices flashbacks
Well done man
TALK ABOUT THE POWER SUPPLIES! (Awesome video)
I expect you probably already know this but, the Quadrature mode of the Mobius can be used for dynamics controlled modulation like the envelope mode on the Ola. I don't think it can do chorusing, but it can definitely be used for reactive tremolo, vibrato, and ring mod-esque sounds.
yes the envelope stuff on the Mobius is super cool, i would not be surprised if that stuff is even cooler than the Ola
Yeah that looks cool
Man, you 100% had me up until the Iridium haha. I just don't think it's as realistic as things like the UAFX pedals, kemper player, or tonex. Everything else on the list was pretty spot on (I would probably put my bigsky higher though). Great video!
FIGHT
this rules and is fun and confessional. You may have done this already, but I'ld love to see something like this but with your pedal board generally and pedal collection standouts -what you keep on the board and around and why. What dirt pedals etc. what combos end up being key.
great idea thanks dude
Amazing piece of advertisement for the Strymon Mobius right here.
gotta do it
When you said there's only one pedal in the ultra tier, i just knew what that is.

so true about the flint being so good despite not being cyber attack at all! and rando gripe - i’m still mad there’s not dual up/down shimmer mode on nightsky, it’s the only thing it doesn’t have that i need.
also so true about iridium - i forget i have it because it’s boring, but it’s 100% essential
@@WHATISPOLITICS69 I never even thought about that for the NightSky but I guess you're right. I don't really like octave-down shimmer reverb in general, but now that I'm saying that, I want to find a way to use it.
@@CyberattackWorld ooh can’t wait to hear that! but that’s the thing - down shimmer is ok for some deep ocean sounds, but it’s way better with up-shimmer on top. massive outer space sounds. EQD astral destiny has a nice up/down shimmer, and some super awesome modes that the strymons don’t have (ascend and descend which are like satanic spirit modes) but it’s mono, so it needs to be stereo-ized if i use it
Love my sunset. Especially with an eq pedal.
Oof coming in hot. you're very correct, though. Nightsky + Deco + Flint yes.
The Sunset is Ultra Tier. You got to try it!
Any chance you'd consider doing a video of how you use the iridium?
yes, but I don't know how interesting it would be.
@@CyberattackWorld Yep. I use them all and surprisingly the Marshall clean is good. No problem. I enjoy the shit out of your videos. Thanks Ivan.
I bought, own, and love the Brig because of your demo. The music from Zelda did it for me :)
Dude the Zelda music in that video is the exact part that uses the reverb sound I miss! That's why I keep going back to the Brig in my mind. What have I done.
I love this real TH-cam content, nothing fancy, just talking about freak stuff!
Can you please do an Iridium video? I love that pedal. I’d love to see how you work the software too.
I've never even touched the software, and the way I use it is pretty normal, like none of my usual glitchy abuse. But I will try to think of interesting things to say about it and then make a video.
@@CyberattackWorld and what about their power supplies?!
The Zelzah definitely sounds good doing what it does, but the Mobius can do most of it (including panned phasing). But also, I did make a video about the Zelzah ifyou're curious: th-cam.com/video/vMR7eztxz20/w-d-xo.html
@@CyberattackWorld wow I take it back I apologize. I searched "cyberattack zelzah" "zelzah how to be advanced" and it never appeared. TH-cam.....
If the mobius can do the panned phasing I will definitely have to check it out.
Can you run 2 modulations at the same time on the Mobius?🧐
No, that's one thing it can't do.
@@CyberattackWorld bro I love your content! I love Strymon pedals but that Mobius is too big to me to not be able to do two mods at once! Lol. I’m about to make a primarily Strymon board w Iriduim as amp w the 3 button multi switch. So I have a Fender clean on the bypass, mArshall dirty in the fav button, a Vox clean and dirty and Marshall clean access via the footswitch. I will be running the ultra violet, Zelzah, Orbit and Sunset into the Iridium. I will probably use the Keeley Caverns or Sonicake Levitate post Iridium for my delay and reverb needs. I’m waiting on Strymon to do a dual delay/ reverb in a small footprint ala Nux Atlantic or Keeley Caverns style. I’m not so much of a reverb and delay head for the many uses of those big ass Strymon pedals like the Big Sky Timeline etc… it’s all about saving space, stealth nowadays. Again, awesome content sir!🫡
Thanks dude that board sounds rad
I didn't love the iridium. It is passable for a guitar tone but it sounds thin and fake to me. I have a Kingsley Page TS tube preamp running into a ox stomp cab sim instead and it sounds way better and reacts like a tube amp but offers all of the other benefits of going direct you get from the iridium
Hey man, a question irrelevant to this video. In your old video about using the ehx rtg to control the frequency of the moogerfooger ring modulator, did you use a ts or trs cable? Thanks
Oh man that was a long time ago but probably TS
@CyberattackWorld thanks mate. With dreadbox pedals that accept cv it works better with stereo ones...I ll check
On a second note, I'd love the cyberattack treatment towards weird quirky amps. Like the new Pano-Verb amp. (yeah super $$$ but still)
I agree the iridium changed my life
Great rundown - which IRs are you using on the Iridium?
whatever the standard ones are
I've been really tempted by El Cap because there's a part of me that wants to explore recreating that dank 70s dub sound. Search for the [not 70s] track "Just Landed" by Burnt Friedman for a quick vibe check. Does Timeline fw that kind of broken tape machine sound?
Yes you could do it with the TimeLine, you just gotta find the right sweet spot between the tone knob and modulation controls.

This is basically always how I use the SD-1.
Why are you making me regret selling my deco and iridium??? 😂😂😂 I'm back to my journey of real amp so iridium will be in my back burner. But deco. Definitely thinking about purchasing it again hahaha
This is the TH-cam I need
Ozzy says: “No more tiers!” 🎶
Have you experimented with 3rd party IRs with the Iridium, or have you always run stock? York has a bass cab IR that let's me get fat bass tones. Great for either a real bass or when I use the C4 for synth bass.
I've only ever used the stock ones, but I'd be interested in trying other ones that are good for bass specifically. Thanks for the tip.
What about the optical compressor?
Out of production / replaced by the Compadre
Have you tried the H90? Curious your take on it compared to the Mobius.
I’ve never tried one
Dude, you should do stand-up. You sound just like Mitch Hedberg....lol
I want a timeline plug in. It's cool they have been doing plugin versions
Sounds like @strymon needs to make their next smaller pedal the tremolo from the mobius.
Is there anything that you would change from the Iridium? I have a Simplifier mkii and I want to try the Iridium
Would love to see you compare the iridium to other amp modelers. I have the ACS1 but wonder if another modeler does it better.
The Iridium is the only one I have. Thanks for the comment though.
I got the dig and iridium. Both are goat
Nice overview! I hope your Iridium lasts so you can keep doing your life. 🙌
same
Couldn’t you use your timeline or any stereo delay for what you use the deco for?
@@CyberattackWorld thanks for the insight!
Steve Albini, rest in peace, has a GREAT video on mic'ing amp cabs where he troubleshoots/explains the science of mic phasing issues with stereo setups and it's absolute witchcraft
@@FakeGlasses will do, and thanks to your typo 'amp simp' is now my preferred word for these boxes
Oh man, surely you'll make or have made a teir list for Boss pedals. Boss is my favorite!
i'd love to do a tier video for Boss, but I feel like I've barely played 1% of their pedals, their line is so huge
