I'm designing my dream home as we speak and your videos are the most help on the internet. I wish you well and thank you! Can you design a shipping container diner or pop up shop? I would most definitely by the design from your website!!!
Would you join the two containers BEFORE cutting out the corrugated sides if you wanted one large interior space, or would you need to do that first, prior to joining?
Either. If modification is insitu, the containers are joined first and made water tight before modification. If fabrication is done offsite, joining is done once delivered onsite.
Thank you for the response! That’s what I figured. Do you have any thoughts on supporting the structure as removing the sides will surely undermine its integrity? I’ve seen people use custom welded girders, but thought maybe using jacks and then simply framing them in with a column would be easier? Thanks again!
@@christopherzurilla5458 For major structural modifications, it's advisable to consult a structural engineer. For smaller openings, framing is good enough.
Useful information, I am joining two containers as you have shown. I prefer the welding process. What will be the dimenions / thickness of the steel plate? Please specify. Thanks
have you try to design/ construct a container van in two layers/two-story, if there's a toilet above how's the plumbing system works properly in 2nd-floor level considering the p-trap clearances. sharing your ideas and sample drawing is much appreciated. thank you
Could you do a video about how to reinforce a container after cutting a wall out? I understand that you have to put more steel on the roof edge over the hole to prevent sagging. Thanks for making these videos, it's really not easy to find "good" information on making container homes and you are hitting all the right areas that people have questions about.
I'm far from a pro but ive been watching container builds for a while and I plan on building my own (with the guidance of an engineer)... I want to connect 3x40 ft containers removing all of the interior walls I intend on using two steel I beams running the 24 ft length of the interior width wise. Great content Alex A... I plan on welding, spray foam sealing AND adding a roof covering. may be redundant but I'll be dealing with lots of snow and I dont ever want to have to worry.
@@wassimhakim7540 great idea. I plan on using conventioal metal roof and use wall cutouts as an attached shed roof, overlayed 1 ft to make a 13 ft by 20 Ft shed with 1 ft fall in the 13 ft.
New subscriber! Thanks for this video. I see this video was made 4 years ago, is this still the best options for connecting the two containers together?
If you weld steel plates on the top and sides of containers when they are side by side, is that enough support to then cut out the walls in between for a 16 ft space as opposed to an 8 ft?
No, whenever you cut the sides you need to reinforce it. Otherwise the container will shift from the loss of structure. As I understand, the side plates exert force to keep the container square. Before you remove anything, even cut out a window, you should sodder reinforcement bars. Keep in mind that the info I have comes from other videos. :)
Can you please show how to bolt two 12 meter containers together instead of soldering? Because we want to move our two 12 Meter containers to different locations. Thanks.

Forgive me for bothering you ... I want a 30 sq / m container to be installed. The minimum wall thickness should be 10 cm, made of stainless steel. Help me. I live in Georgia ... what will it cost me. Before you send me ... clarify ... thank you for your attention
would painting with waterproofing solution then welding plate to 4 sides (front, back, top and bottom) then fill with spray foam insulation work ok? provided all surfaces are treated with anti rust inhibitor, it should be ok..
I would weld 1 ft sections every 5 ft then use a really good silicone tooled down followed by red guard rolled on over every inch of the roof. Then a waterproofing membrane used on Windows over all joints and topped off witg a valley flashing glued down with liquid nails.
I have been looking for a tutorial to do this for so long. Thank you.

Excellent tutorial. Just a quickie. Is there any reason why I’d need both an arc welder and a mig welder?
You wouldn't need both.

You are welcome
Thanks, it was very informative
Wow, nice info channel! Thanks!!
Great information
Great video! Can you do a video on pros and cons of different methods to build inside walls to include insulation methods? Thanks
It's already done , just search our channel for insulation. You will find it.
Can I place my container on side rather then it default floor side?
yes
I wouldn't risk it! The doors help keeping it from flexing!
love this info. thank you Alex. much love and god,s peace be with you
Can you tell me what the bolts are called or where I can find them? I looked up corner casting bolt and cannot find it.
you can find them if your look for shipping container parts, bolts

I am going to assume the two steel walls that divide the two containers, are going to be removed. You have two large pieces of steel for your roof.

Cut 1M wide steel tubes and weld the 400mm apart along the floor and the roof to hold firm.
